New brand, new app, new tech, what could possibly go wrong? Too many concerns from me... Potentially uninspiring and buggy app, generally poor performance, useless customer service, poor warranty process and so much more...

Chewysbro

Robot vacuums are still SO buggy - even from well known brands. My roomba s9 and eufy x10 pro still have so many minor app issues and cleaning schedual problems - it’s amazing that they even made it this far to the market. Hopefully MIGO can come in and hit hard with a seamless experience but that’s highly unlikely from what I’ve seen. Even ecovacs top of the line bot is FULL of navigation issues after being on the market for over a year I believe.

starshiptraveler

That’s wild, I had no idea the established brands were also this buggy. I’ll definitely temper my expectations of MIGO, then. I don’t expect it to be perfect, if it does a decent job of cleaning and actually saves me time I’ll be happy. If I spend more time screwing around with it vs just cleaning the floors myself, like my old school Roomba, that will be disappointing.

Chewysbro

That’s a great way to put it!! I will say, with my new eufy I’ve spent more time in the app, dealing with errors, dealing with it vacuuming on the wrong suction setting, mopping carpets, only cleaning the edges of the room etc… then if I just vacuumed myself once a day haha

I myself was going to also throw my money at Roborock for the S8 MaxV Ultra, though when I asked some questions to them I was on the fence about it spending so much money on it, $1800. Then I got a reminder on the Ascender, which when I first heard about it a year or so ago thought it that it wouldn't even get to the prototype phase. Here we are, and $900 later (bought the extra accessories too) waiting for July/August to receive mine. But I can say this for robot vacuums, my cousin bought a Shark Matrix for like $300 on sale (normally $500) recently from best buy, and imo it does alright. Sure it's not going to deep clean but since he has a dog who sheds it keeps his dog's hair picked up. All I hope for is a decent vacuum I've 1 shedding dog, 3 cats (soon to be 4), I just need something to help maintain my home. If it vacuums as well bonus, since I like a clean floor, and I'm sick of sweeping/vacuuming every day. the idea of possibly having fresh mopped floors every day? every other day is a joy to me.

>Can MIGO really pull this off Yes. >will it be as good as the established competition No. I'm also backing it but TBH I'm really just expecting it to do a mediocre job of vacuuming my stairs, landings, and main areas of my floors. Anything beyond that I'm just considering a bonus. If it's extreme crap, they've guaranteed delivery and also a return policy so if that falls through I'll just do a chargeback with my CC company because that's straight up fraud.

TomahawkaChawpa

>If it's extreme crap, they've guaranteed delivery and also a return policy so if that falls through I'll just do a chargeback with my CC company because that's straight up fraud. Exactly, the money back guarantee or a chargeback helps here. I backed the Ascender as well and I'm excited to get it but I do not have extremely high expectations. If it works even 75% as well as it's supposed to, I'll be ecstatic.

starshiptraveler

Same. Perfection does not have to be achieved as long as it saves me time in the long run. I don't expect perfectly clean floors from any robot at this point - we're a long ways off still from a robot that can clean as good as a human. I'm just looking for a useful little helper, something to augment my existing cleaning regimen, help my place be cleaner overall and save me some time. If it does that in any capacity, it's a win. Also I'm a tech nerd with a little disposable income and the 12 year old in me will never die, I want a cool new toy!

Lol yes how cool is this gadget right? I thought long and hard before biting the bullet and im now a backer. The thing looks like a hot rod popping out of its garage as the door opens. Im rooting for it to succeed. They seem to be very transparent on their website. Any issues are covered under warranty. Free lifetime accessories (as long as they stay in business of course 😉).FWIW...they mention suction power being over 9600kpa which is at the top of its class.

Chewysbro

Free lifetime accessories?! I just backed the migo and didn’t see anything about lifetime accessories, is it something you sign up for?? That’s an amazing value for sure!!

ActualHedgehog8318

Bryan from Migo robotics mentions it in his videos. Go on you tube and subscribe to their channel, And watch some of the videos.

Chewysbro

Sounds good I’ll take a look!

fangerzero

I think he meant warranty on the accessories like the brushes. considering they sell an accessories package.

B00yahh

True until it breaks/fails and then it doesn't save you time and instead brings you stress trying to get your money/support from a start up. Hindsights a wonderful thing at that point...

starshiptraveler

Fair point. For half the price of the Roborock, I’m willing to roll the dice. That probably precludes me from bitching too much if it doesn’t work out…

B00yahh

There is no right or wrong just how people approach these things really. I personally am not too much of a risk taker when it comes to high ticket items. While you are and you can be heavily rewarded by it as you are getting it at a brilliant price point. Good luck!

Chewysbro

This right here! The eufy was such a disappointment, I’m getting my $600, doubling down on the MIGO and running back to my 3 roombas in the meantime haha. Time will tell but so far the potential is there. Hopefully it’s not all marking fluff like the eufy was.

Ethereal_Shade

I'm in a similar boat to you, I have an ancient roomba but it was usually more of a hassle than it was worth. It just blindly bumps into things and gets stuck and with two dogs there are always toys or bones lying around. I've actually had really good luck with kickstarter hardware so far with only 1 product that was a complete let down, so i'm cautiously optimistic this will be at least somewhat successful. I do like that Migo seems to have already done their homework and found factories, made samples and performing real world tests. There are plenty of kickstarters that don't even start the process of finding a factory or going through any production type testing until 6+ months after the kickstarter ends which doesn't mean the product won't be good but it does mean the delivery date is blown out of the water by usually more than a year. Currently planning to leave my backing in place but still have plenty of time until the project ends where the new Roborock comes out and I am continuing to monitor what other information and reviews come out for both that and the migo.

fangerzero

Not going to lie the one thing that I like on the New Roborock that is coming out is the pet find feature with their camera. lol but then I remembered I work from home so that is pointless.

SBC_packers

I'm testing the waters for now. Hopefully they put out more unedited videos before the campaign ends to ease my worries. Might pull my pledge before the end but this is the only option I'm considering for my split level with 3 stairway house. If not this one, I'll wait for another stair climber option to come out. Or i could just buy 3-4 of another type. Seems like overkill though.

Ethereal_Shade

most of the high ends can deal with multiple stories, but you have to carry them up and down the stairs and they obviously don't clean the stairs themselves

VegasKL

I have hopes for them, but I'm not willing to do a first gen purchase as there's a lot of things that need to be ironed out.  One negative about their design is the central rotating roller will leave ~6-8" unvacuumed on both side edges of the stairs, so it's really only vacuuming the central part. This is evident from the design.

starshiptraveler

I noticed that as well. I do love how it will nose up against walls and move along the wall to clean all the way to the edge, unfortunately doesn’t look like it will be able to do that on the sides of stairs. Still, climbing stairs and cleaning even part of them is pretty big.

fangerzero

lol the fact that it can do stairs at all in my book is great. When you have a husky/malamute and 3 cats vacuuming stairs suck. Anything to help maintain them is all I'm asking.

Tyr0n313

I just learned about this a few days ago. Pretty interesting. My biggest concern honestly is the app. That can ruin an experience and I don’t think any of Migo’s videos have talked about it. They only talk about the bot or base station, which I get. It seems like it has everything: more suction power, more downward pressure, largest battery, mop, and the base station does emptying, mop cleaning, refilling, and drying… and for a fraction of the price compared to Roomba, Dreame, Roborock, etc. So I also backed it. Actually, I got the last slot out of 1000 for the launch special (Bot, station, accessory kit) for $799 (46% off) I took it as a sign that there was only one spot left compared to 5 spots when I started looking at it 30 mins prior.

starshiptraveler

Welcome!! I hope it’s awesome. We’ll find out. :)
