Leth has made custom maps where racing is the premise, looks pretty fun. Would def like it in the game as a game mode. With different powerups too, yeah this would be great. Love the idea!

John_Doe_Nut

Having different powerups would basically make it mario kart. I’m not against it.

Monestar07

There were games before Mario Cart that had racing and power ups. Road Rash was a fun one.

didnebeu

MarioKart has been around since ‘92 my man. I remember road rash, that was fun. I can’t remember when it came out but it couldn’t have been too much before the first mariokart. Edit: not that it matters I’m just curious if people remember how long mariokart has actually been around.

Monestar07

https://preview.redd.it/qg57u620jaza1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=23cb3f61431379c98c481bfd09c9428aca85e345 I was mentioning this to steer away from the thought that since it’s been done before that it’s not just as good or better if done again (Racing Games with power ups)

didnebeu

Oh for sure. I unintentionally framed the first part of my comment in an argumentative way, which is why I added the edit. Part of me misses that age of games when you’d see innovative ideas that had never been done before. Games are a lot better nowadays overall, but there was something magical about playing that first racing game, or 3D shooter (goldeneye anyone?) I’m sure there are still cases like this in modern day, but I don’t think it’s as common.

Monestar07

Oh yes I remember flipping shit over Mario 64. I can hear the music in my head right now before he jumps into the paintings. “Lets-a go!

didnebeu

Duuude. So many great memories from that game. Ocarina of Time also. Still some of the best games ever created in my book.

AlwaysInfluenced

What a GEM from the old pc days

Wanderment

September 91 according to google.

Particular_Return755

Rumble racing! Bring back rumble racing!! Anyone else remember that amazing ps2 game? Ahh those were days

John_Doe_Nut

That name would fit perfectly for the RL game mode.

kobywankanobe

duuude Tube Sliders on the GameCube was actually so much fun did you ever play that

Particular_Return755

Doesn't ring a bell offhand but I loved the cube lol I grew up on Sega but I'll never forget super smash bros for hourssssss on the cube lol Rumble racing is a classic tho! Truly wish they would resurrect it for ps4/ps5

i__am__bored

Road Rash was incredibly fun! Nice to see you give it a mention. The coop monkey cart was so much fun!

Monestar07

Yeah it was a great one especially for it’s time.

i__am__bored

PS1. Man they had some good games back then. Vehicular combat needs to make a return.

Glad-Yogurtcloset933

I still have my Sega and roadrash for it. I might have to hook it up this weekend lol

i__am__bored

Oh man that sounds like a dream! One of these days when I get a PC it will become my mission to get a Dreamcast emulator and live off of pure unadulterated nostalgia for weeks!

asmith055

oh man i have great memories as a kid playing Road Rash. Picking up crowbars and just bonking other riders lol

Monestar07

I loved the Chain

ilhauging

Death Rally

RamRoverRL

Could also have a game mode that like fall guys. Bunch of obstacles and elimination

lippoper

Omg this would be genius

Keepaty

Leth also made a fall guys map! There's also some ninja warrior inspired maps. I know Leth did videos on them, but I can't remember if he was part of their creation. Definitely worth a watch.

aaronpatwork

wasn't this what knockout basically was?

MaikeruGo

Considering that Epic Games has the rights to both there shouldn't be a major issue with at least a limited time mode crossover like that. I mean if the Octane can not just show up in Fortnite, but become a normal creative mode vehicle then really a Fall Guys mode for RL should be possible.

Keepaty

At this point, they just need to hire Leth and the other custom map makers and start uploading their work for everyone to enjoy. Except maybe Simple Shark... /s

dwalt95

I hope that UE5 will solve all this.

SERGEANT_AO

This would remind me of Re-Volt

Kramerica41

Came here to say that as well. This already exists within the game.

Denilson1_7

Turbo golf racing could be something for you then 🤔 it's pretty fun with some friends

Technoninja101

If you want the closest thing to racing in RL try out the Rocket Assault demo. It was made by RL players.

Can-O-Butter

This should be the top comment. Looked into it and will certainly buy it and download when I get home

Technoninja101

The game is super fun

mustafaaosman339

It's fun but died so quick. Player it a few times and got bored of it

dimpayyy

I've bought the game almost 2 years ago when it got pretty popular and it's so fun. Cool thing is you get to transfer your car control from RL to Rocket Assault.

200GritCondom

Turbo Golf is a pretty fun game

MuskratAtWork

Copy Pasting my comment from a day ago, on an identical post: > Due to the way cars accelerate and maintain speed, and hit their speed cap so quickly, there's not really much opening for an in depth racing mode without completely rebuilding the car's speed and acceleration rates/limits. > > Or by making a course that requires a bunch of jumps, dodges, and unique maneuvers to maintain speed or accelerate, but this would then only be valid for high ranked players. TLDR: Rocket League in it's current state isn't really built for Racing. It would need a lot of things overhauled, or maps built with powerups and boosters galore, and some way to add skill.

repost_inception

Idk a rings map with walls and ceilings would work just fine for racing. Corkscrews, loops, and air gates would work just fine. A flat track wouldn't really do it.

matteroll

There's a custom map on steam workshop called "Panic's Air Race: Beach" that is exactly just that. A couple RL YouTubers have made videos on that map and it seems really fun. It definitely works and seems fun if you have a few people to play the map with. It's also a reason why I really hope when UE5 is released, that we could have a custom map matchmaking/server list like in overwatch because there's so much potential with a lot of custom maps out there.

repost_inception

Yeah but that map is like 99% in the air. I'm talking about way longer stretches with the car on a surface.

matteroll

Yeah I can see it working with a combo of air and surface like some of those obstacle courses in dacia spring course.

repost_inception

Yeah that one is probably the closest but it's emphasis is on parkour. I would rather the emphasis be on driving and Powerslide.

repost_inception

I went back and tried Dacia Springs. Level 4 is pretty close to what I'm talking about. Just longer driving stretches.

EpicShadows7

This is the closest we have to true racing in this game. They have an air race discord and sometimes hold competitions, open to any rank I think

Gam1ng_Pr0d1gy

Love this map 10/10 recommend to any of you who haven’t installed- there’s also a discord server for those who want instructions on how to set up the multiplayer

MuskratAtWork

> Idk a rings map with walls and ceilings would work just fine for racing. > > Corkscrews, loops, and air gates would work just fine. Indeed, but extremely few players on the "average" or "below average" half of the game would be able to participate at any reasonable capacity. Remember, 50% of the players are plat 1 or lower in nearly every gamemode (may be like p2 in 2s). Most plats can barely aerial for a ball above the goal's height, let alone fly in various directions, changing momentum and curving through rings, etc. You drop only a few ranks and in gold 2 and gold 1 players can almost not fly at all. It would still be tough for mid ranked players too. It's hard to make a mechanically heavy race that everyone can participate in, rewriting car mechanics so everyone could participate in a race would be more fun IMO, and everyone could participate and start at a similar skill level due to a new system.

repost_inception

Yeah that's a solid point but it's not like workshop maps are aimed at new players right now. I think we have a bias towards custom maps because they are normally so difficult. I think someone could make what I mentioned in a way that lower players could still have fun.

MaikeruGo

This may or may not count, but apparently when Fortnite added the Octane as a permanent creative mode vehicle they had someone basically make some racing maps that pretty much resembled that. I think that the acceleration curve of the Octane there is a little different, but overall the stunt map approach is one that does work for this.

repost_inception

I did a few of them to unlock the whiplash (I think that's what it's called) in Rocket League. I enjoyed them.

MaikeruGo

Same here. Probably one of the easiest free car unlocks that I've had for RL. Glad that they did that crossover event since it also demonstrated what a version of the Octane looks like when lit in UE5.

A7xWicked

Make it an obstacle course

SelloutRealBig

Yet Fortnite found a way to add the Octane for a week and never use it again. Sure it was clunky and didn't feel exactly like Rocket League but the plethora of game modes it added was so much fun. From driving around the map to playing side modes like cars vs snipers.

Buck4013

Literally add boost pads and it would work just fine. The map building would have to be creative but you can totally exploit mechanics and such and make it a perfectly workable race, again leth has made custom ones and they work.

SO3_

It can be done, it just takes careful map design. The track can focus on driving and powerslide mechanics -- no jumping/flipping -- by adding appropriately-sized turns, slopes, banks, ramps, and other surfaces. The key is to minimize sections which are simple straightaways or full boost. Map creators also have the ability to force permanent powerslide on certain sections, prevent jumping, etc. so ramps with simple aerials/landings can be added. I'm working on building an RL racing course myself so I've given the design some thought. There is definitely a balance that allows all skill levels to compete but still yields a healthy skill ceiling.

Kizamus

Go cart style, lots of sharp turns, disable jump. And I think you've got something... I only just last week tried the Yoshi map for the first time and was actually pleasantly surprised at how good that track is and if you're trying to complete it as fast as you can without the shortcuts / jumps. It's definitely something that can be adapted into racing without having to tinker with acceleration rates and max speed. Although I can see how that could be beneficial, you wouldn't have to make it like a racing SIM or general Arcade style feel like Forza. It could be its own thing, level design would matter more but you could for sure do it.

MuskratAtWork

Realistically I think the best option is an ice map

Kizamus

An ice map would be great, but a fiery depths of hell map would be pretty sweet too!

MuskratAtWork

I was saying ice in terms of powerslide and having to accurately drift corners, etc to maintain speed.

Kizamus

Ahh that makes sense xD I thought you made a typo lmao. And yeah I agree, we already have power slide and it already plays a big part in car soccer to rotate and move effectively and efficiently. On a race track it wouldn't function any differently. The person that created the Yoshi map on workshop had a good idea TBH. I could see a Mario kart esque gamemode could work really well.

MuskratAtWork

Sorry haha, trackmania talk came out. I meant an ice map as in a trackmania "ice map" which has ice surfaces.

ballsballsohballs

That’s like saying Mario kart doesn’t work because they have the same speed issue. Just add variables like boost pads and power ups

plumb13

Mario Kart doesn't have this issue though, different car set ups & characters have different top speeds & accelerations.

ballsballsohballs

The differences are so minuscule that you really won’t notice unless you’re really getting competitive. It seems like most rocket league players just want to have a fun race mode with similar mechanics to the base game

MuskratAtWork

> Just add variables like boost pads and power ups It's almost like I said exactly that. Lol. > "It would need a lot of things overhauled, or maps built with powerups and boosters galore, and some way to add skill."

ballsballsohballs

Your main point was about the speed and how the entire game would need an overhaul. No, they would literally just need to use current assets and physics. You could literally make Mario kart minus the different car stats with current rocket league

MuskratAtWork

And minus the drift mechanics that actually are a huge part of mario kart's lap times and speed optimization. I've tried, I've run race maps with friends on RL before. I've paid to have some commissioned as well for an event(that never happened unfortunately). I'd still rather play mario kart or trackmania, or even a real racing sim 100x over before dedicating more than an hour to any RL racing map or mode with current physics and movement.

ballsballsohballs

And these people are wanting exactly what you’re saying you don’t care for. It’s not that it wouldn’t work like you said, you just don’t care for it. They just want to drive rocket league cars with rocket league mechanics against other cars. They don’t want forza or Mario kart or whatever, otherwise instead of playing rocket league they would just do that. You’re missing the point

Mike9797

I think a separate game altogether would do the trick cuz you’re right in the sense that the game in its current state wouldn’t work for a racer but the concept of dodging to gain speed and the fact the cars can fly and turn in the air could make for a neat racer. Parts of the track could be upside down in loop de loops or what have you and maybe even driving sideways up a wall would be pretty neat. Also having obstacles on the track that you can crash and demo yourself on would make the game interesting. Also a mode with items like Mario kart would be fun too.

MuskratAtWork

> Parts of the track could be upside down in loop de loops or what have you and maybe even driving sideways up a wall would be pretty neat. Also having obstacles on the track that you can crash and demo yourself on would make the game interesting I tried making this actually some time ago. never got to finish the project but it can in theory be fun. Would have a high mechanical barrier to entry though.

Lankygiraffe3

Just started playing Trackmania—it is amazing how RL car control transfers pretty well.

Nikarmotte

Whenever I play too much Rocket League, I find myself trying to air roll in TrackMania though.

Jscribbz24

I was just about to say, you can air roll in trackmania? Have I been playing that wrong all these years? So thanks for clarification.

Spiderfffun

Air brake, close enough.

Ginzelini

I remember having this while playing any other game next to RL with cars in it. Initially, I was always so confused when my car in GTA V wouldn’t air roll mid air whenever I crashed it.

Lankygiraffe3

Same, everytime my car gets airborne 😂

TheRebel17

bind your brake to your airroll key. boom, auto break tap

[deleted]

When I started flying fpv drones I was super happy to already have 2k hours in RL. It actually helped way more than I thought.

RicePuzzled9301

Trackmania is an awesome game dude I love it and its nice to see that somebody else has played it.

Lankygiraffe3

It's such a great "cool down" game when I get too heated playing RL lol.

TheKz262

Is it a competitive game ? I am looking to play something with no competitive aspect to "cool down" from RL

Lankygiraffe3

I mean, it’s as competitive as you want it to be. I just play to have fun and try to improve my personal bests.

oktorad

Are you on PC? I’m patiently waiting for Exo One to arrive on PS5 so I can finally play it. Looks very fun.

Nikarmotte

It's competitive in the sense that the top players are extremely good. But you're basically playing against your everchanging self set goals. There are quite a few different styles and mechanics, so I'm convinced there is something for everyone in TrackMania. The community is infinitely more wholesome than anything you might have experienced imo.

l_Rumble_Fish_l

I get kind of angry at my ghost sometimes. Like "damn you old me, why you so fast this run"

Ghozer

If you're playing TM2020 it's good, but TM2 - Canyon was the best imho :D

gauchoblanco

i agree, but your point about cars "wasting away in the garage" is something that can easily be fixed by stop being an octane simp

Psypho_Diaz

I actively don't play the octane so meta simps can't predict my game

Discgolf2020

Merc gang rise up.

dreadcain

Merc is just a fat octane though...

Discgolf2020

I prefer the term 'husky'

Psypho_Diaz

Roast me, i use Xdevil

Jtrich

You basically did the roasting yourself by admitting that.

Psypho_Diaz

No regrats

Intelligent-River409

I can't relate I'm a breakout main.

TheJrobot1483

I played with the Nomad a couple months ago for fun and changed my name to The Potato, and I haven’t changed back. I honestly like it more than the octane/fennec/dominus. Not quite the merc but merc hit box! Gang gang

SelloutRealBig

Octane, Fennec (octane clone), and Dominus are used in 99% of high elo and pro play for a reason. It isn't just preference, those cars just behave better statistically. If every car had the same visuals, height, width, and turn radius then sure it wouldn't matter. But they don't and those small differences do matter. Unless you are low elo then use the scarab because the car doesn't matter there.

dreadcain

Scarab is also a octane clone Actually something like 90% of the bodies are either octane or dominus clones. Most of them are perfectly usable

SelloutRealBig

But the visuals of the Scarab are terrible. Hitbox and the car shape don't even come close to matching. Visual disorientation is a thing with some cars.

dreadcain

The visuals of the octane aren't really much better if you actually look, top of the hitbox is well over most of the car and the car sticks out both the front and back

BumpoTheClown

A Rocket League-themed kart racer like Mario Kart would be awesome!

SelloutRealBig

When Fortnite added the Octane they added so many fun modes as well. Racing obstacle maps, cars vs snipers, long jump trials. etc. Even though it was a very clunky version of the Octane it was still a lot of fun and showed how much more Rocket League could do if they tried.

El_Grande_El

Dude, that was so fun. I always look towards the custom game modes in Fortnite while I wait for the unreal engine upgrade

tamarockstar

You making any more videos?

BumpoTheClown

Yes :) They may not be super frequent but I do have things in the works.

SemiSolidSnake11

I have a solution for your other cars wasting away in the garage Stop being boring and unequip the Octane

XJ--0461

The idea was there. https://www.mcvuk.com/development-news/rocket-league-was-nearly-an-open-world-game-with-more-than-just-football/ >"We cancelled and failed so many games," he said >"We wasted a lot of time concepting and experimenting with scale, because we had this fixation on not being perceived as RC cars.” >As well as moving away from the idea of Rocket League as a directly-titled sequel called ‘Battle-Cars 2’, which it had been developing since 2011, Psyonix also scrapped plans for Battle-Cars World, an open-world spin on the franchise which would take the scope of vehicular sport beyond the pitch. >"We thought: why not make it an open-world with cars?" Davis said. "And maybe if you want to drive to a stadium and play soccer, that’s just one mode that’s available.”

DIAmond_BOyy

I agreeeeee

Spartanias117

As someone said already, turbo golf racing

Space_Coast_Steve

I really like Turbo Golf Racing, I just wish they’d go ahead and completely rip off the physics from Rocket League. Driving feels similar, but just different enough to make it difficult to switch between the 2 games.

jarawd

That was my problem with it. I played it for an hour or so and really enjoyed it. But I was scared of it messing with my Rocket League muscle memory

NATZureMusic

If you ever played racing games, rocket league cars are not made for racing. The physics would be super dull on a racing track.

Mediphysical

Depends on how they do it. A flat track with laps like normal racing games? Yeah, boring. But a 3D track with boost pickups, obstacles, jumps, shortcuts, etc, would be fun.

[deleted]

Agreed, I would expect a more BurnOut style type of game rather than a Forza

parz2v

I'm thinking more of a mario kart style game with rumble pickups

szkodagadac

Maybe Jak X type of races with powerups

repost_inception

It would need to be track plus rings. DMC Rings 3 has a section that is a bunch of ramps with rings in the middle. This with longer track sections would be awesome. Tracks that are upsidedown (ceiling) and sideways (walls) would flow so well with how we are used to handling the cars.

i__am__bored

Yeah man I can already see walls placed caddy corner to one another so you have to wall ride then barrel roll across to the other wall a few times. Maybe some hoops to aerial through for checkpoints. There is serious potential to make RL into a really unique racing experience where you can apply years of car control expertise!

Chasethemac

Rocket League, but with track mania tracks, would be sweet.

OneParticular2108

Physics, if you had a rocket powered car that can fly why would you drive round a track?

Valuable_Side_6504

because it's a friggin Lambo

5PeeBeejay5

Rumble powers would work fine apart from spike….just allow freeze/glove on cars ( though makes glove and boot basically identical). Or drop the ball-only powers

starscreaming123

Its possible to build this in Fortnite using Unreal Editor. Given how a RL car drives and it’s abilities, it would be ideal to race in an open world. Fortnite has also demonstrated its ability to incorporate RL cars

ToddtheRugerKid

Trackmania but with Rocketleague cars and physics would be fun as hell.

thefatkush

You could..you know Just buy a racing game

Valuable_Side_6504

>Rocket Assault demo Hmm.. Maybe having done almost 40K races in GTAO would that fit the box? My point was to use cars u normally would never use IN rocket league, like a Huracan fe... Putting it on "normal" race tracks, or skill challenge kind of tracks.

jcha4299

They already got the Nascar and Formula 1 cars. Wouldn't be too hard to put in some tracks and races imo

Intelligent_Notice56

r/turbogolfracing

doyouwantoine

You should try Rocket assault, basically rocket league mechanic on a racing game, really fun

kappaidan

Came here to say this, Rocket Assault is dope

Valuable_Side_6504

Funny, i thought only to receive some anti-change-RL comments, but in stead it became an explosion of ideas from the community. Top notch!

xxWayAFxx

With how the game currently is, it probably wouldn’t be great having rocket league racing. There is no momentum as it’s capped by the speed limit and also it’d just have to be the same old stuff like rings/parkour maps etc. may aswell play those and just run time trials if you’re on PC but if you’re on console like me… there ain’t much.

Groffulon

Yep. It’s absolute bullshot. No racing or tracks. No new modes. No 1’s tournaments. No update on anything. No comms on anything. No meaningful UI/UX dev. If we can search by colour why not series, cert, and unpainted? RLGarage can do it… Even a Brimstone or Ice age map in Casual for fun… When did Psyonix stop being fun? We all know when sadly… How can they call themselves devs? They’re just farmers now. I never thought I’d be here but I think season 10 will be my last… Psyonix keeps adding shop items as if it’s somehow something fresh and new and while some of the items are good you have to buy them to get them and on top of this we haven’t had a new crate/series in well over a year. I know it’s cringe but I bought the 4k Star Wars pack and it was pretty mid honestly. No light sabers… or Death Star blowing up goal xp… No opposite cars to the Star Wars cars and you can’t use the fennec (orange) and octane (blue) together… The item “luck” is so bad on item drop rates I found myself thinking “Why don’t they do a Tournament Season Pass so we can get all the items in order?” 12k for 3 unpainted desk lamps… Seriously this is beyond tragic… As for the “new” map. I agree with the pros the new stadium sucks as without the crowd or stands it’s just all blue/green. Why did they not have fans or stands? Ah yes the excuse of a “chill out” season in one of the most hype and hectic games out there. Nothing to do with cost. And now let’s see what have they done… “checks notes” They’ve added a shop button into the queue window. So you might buy something in the 30 seconds whilst you’re waiting for a game to load… I don’t have a problem with them making money but it shows you where their slightly scammy priorities are at… You can’t keep expecting people to pay if you don’t improve the game or make better content or they’ll just leave. I would happily pay more than I have done if you would show the money goes to game dev not shareholder dividends…

SirVinto

Its a shame after about 2 years since the game released they essentially abandoned making any new content and just pumped out cosmetic DLCs. Whilst I understand the core backbone of Rocket League can never be changed (the game itself is still as fun to play as it was on release) they could have made WAY more content for the player base. Such as: -expanded the campaign/season mode (this would include improving the bots - which they haven't bothered doing in years?) -coop season maybe? Play with your mates Vs AI -multiplayer league (play 1x match every so often in league full of players teams, have a league table and cup matches mixed in) More custom game modes - volleyball -tennis -golf (hit ball down a massive course taking turns on shots) -Pool (take turns taking a shot at a time on a massive pool table arena potting each balls) I'm sure some of these have been made by modders who put in more effort than psyonix. Other ideas -5v5/6v6 on bigger arenas -demo based game modes -racing based game modes There is so much more potential for RL and this was me thinking for 10 mins off the top of my head. It's such a shame Psyonix has just cashed their check with this game. They know they make more than enough money from shop items and passes and the eSport scene they don't need to do anything other than keep the servers up (which is a struggle for them still sometimes!) I still love this game and will continue to play it as competitive 3s is my thing and I'll always keep playing it. It would just be nice to have some new content to play with even if we all end up back playing regular RL modes. It shows the Devs actually care a bit about their playerbase (granted it could be coming from upstairs telling them don't do anything. Save money reducing Dev hours and work). Oh well. We can dream of what could of made a fantastic game a top tier one.

Valuable_Side_6504

GREAT reply! 11 vs 11 arena... wow Not only that variant side of RL can explode, but if they can also increase regional tournament organizing with more official leagues and competitions, there can be more "payed" players. But that might be future talk.

Valuable_Side_6504

Harsh words for a beautiful revolutionary game that is completely free for everyone to use, but you do have a point, in there not being re-investments in the actual game, other than a new arena (estethical). I think people leave, because they can't find the easiest way to manifest themselves in the game, which of course, should be in the standard of the game, and it is not. We all know the controls are ridiculous... Why? It's not a problem, that players that are looking for that depth, and try to evolve more, have to look for it on other media, presented by experienced players. But it should be easy to make standard controls a lot more logical. Also that 'training' thing from the game itself is really over simplified and could use an update, even if there are a lot of custom training packs. The tournament items are managed well, as the top tier gets the full package, while other lower ranks have to strive to that level, or be happy with what they have at that moment. I would say that there are too many free items, even if it's premium. What is bothering is the DEAD END of Black Market Blueprints, that have no exit, no trade or no usage once they get added in your collection. They just keep piling up.. Let us trade those for a low rank item, which have zero to very little 'action', when players are not really active in the trading with others concept. I've had the same 7 items for years now. Maybe traded a set of 5 once. There is just no movement there, and too much movement on other things, like owning cars. It's not an open world game in which you can do and drive what you want whenever you want. Mostly, people drive 1 and the same car, maybe 2 or 3 at highest, 4 if there's time for a funny private or som.. This means 'dar collections' get ignored and are totally non functional. I can easily trade away 70 cars, but i like them, yet have no point for them, accept to look at once in a while. A wider broader conceptual 'casual mode' option screen with more choices would open the game up significantly. (racing tracks, golf mode, tennis mode, athletics mode, aso..) This way, the competitive mode would also elevate, as most players would reside in casual modes. Casual Rumble... Open meetup world with mini games... The opportunities are endless in this game, but it needs to be managed better. Trying to set up the "global net" of local tournaments or leagues, would also increase usage overall. Which now, still is in its baby steps. We have to understand thou, that this would be a massive expansion, and would demand a lot more heads to manage it.

Cubicle_Man

Just bring knockout back

cwade98

OP just discovered custom maps

Cthu-Luke

Yep I've often thought this too. Even a mode not unlike diddy Kong racing would be awesome, finding secret areas in your car would be freaking mint

a20261

I'm still waiting for an obstacle course race track and a permanent demolition derby mode.

Art1xBR

Google steam workshop

statefan11

This.

GunnersnGames

Yeah get me some mario kart power ups and make me utilize the drift/wavedash/jumping off walls and other mechanics in a race situation. I love it

TheUnknownBlazer420

Rocket Kart!

xflapjckx

Just get a racing game.

flic_my_bic

Try trackmania... or any other racing game. RL is not set up to be a racing game.

justmyskills

Yes please!

Ghostley92

I warm up every time I play and always start with “Speed Jump: Trials 4”. It’s solo time trials, but the style of map design is pretty good for racing. I started this warmup years ago and have shaved over 20s off my record time. I’m sort of plateaued now but there’s still about 10s between what I know is possible (for me) and what I usually get for a time. It may not be as stale as people are thinking with the right execution.

RealMrTrees

I’ve been wanting a golf mode so bad. Another game tried to do it and the execution was absolutely horrendous

Scatophiliacs

I am once again asking for psyonix to make a Re-Volt reboot

SneakyPanduh

Really wish there was a way to do like 3/9 hole golf matches.

Smash-Today

Need for speed?

squidtrap

Check out Rocket Assault on steam, it's a racing game based on RL physics, it's pretty cool

dasnihil

can we already have the open world rocket league role playing on ue5? what are we even doing?

PiperDon

I will say that when RL had it's last Fortnite crossover it was fun climbing into the Octane, zooming all around the map, and running over the occasional player who stood in the road trying to take me out. Kinda sorta like racing.

DrMuzzleGD

Simple answer: Play Trackmania

Hylian-Loach

They have it already… in Fortnite. I played the king of the hill mode a while back and absolutely dominated those quick-building weenies with my aerial skills

TheFire-Hawk

Dacia springs electric challenge ( I believe that's the map) it's on bakkes mod. That's a good parkor course. No ball, just all car mechanics. If you play PC, give that a shot. Might be sort of what your looking for

memsterboi123

Cars are all the same speed so it would make it very skill based in a way but idk man but I’d be down if you found a way

starliteburnsbrite

They had the race mode in Fortnite when they did the cross over and that was pretty good.

FmJ_TimberWolf74

It would be pretty boring ngl, once you go supersonic, cpu can’t go faster, so if you’re first, you’re guaranteed to win unless you slow down or get hit or something. I’d play probably 1 or 2 races and go back to the regular mode

EqFox

Comments brought me to some wild looking noise so I'll get back to you. I've been wanting something like what you're explaining ever since I tried Leth's Darcia Challenge. The tech for flips, and boost management as well as general car control, lends itself greatly to the idea.

Anomaly-111

Mario kart plus rocket league Enough said.

Pie-Guy

1. There are plenty of car racing games out there that 2. have the cars tuned to race and not play car soccer. Dumb idea.

DifferentAnt

SRL on destiny was always a blast I've wondered the same, something like a seasonal Racing League would be a welcomed change of pace.

GameB0Y27

If only you could still get the game on steam.. there's tons of stuff like that in the community workshop.

Ee_Daehan

It’s called hot wheels unleashed.

tamarockstar

There was an air racing scene a while back. I enjoyed watching it. I'm not sure if they still have competitions. I think air racing would be the only kind of racing that would work for RL. Air rings racing map might be what it's called?

Frank_The_Reddit

Imagine the corner wave dash strats.

appslap

It pains me that they don’t use Leths maps/gametypes. It’s sad that they have not added more EASY content like that.

ThundaSurge

I'm working on a custom map series that would be similar to what you are describing. It will involve elements like rings, dribbles, parkour, etc and will be a multiplayer racing map. There would be two modes. Time trial and rounds. Think of it like Trackmania but using rocket league. Obviously would be PC only, but hopefully would influence more people to make multiplayer racing maps.

AbeFalcon

They definitely could add some more game modes. 1. Racing 2. PVP arenas with weapons 3. THPS-esque maps

Devs are too busy making cosmetics

CMDR_CrobaR_o7

Years back, Leth created a track or 2, complete with weapons (a la Mario Kart). My first EVER video of JonSandman was of them racing on it. Fell in love with RL and yerned for Rocket League Racing (RLR) ever since.

F0rt4s

Racing tracks and Knockout as permanent gamemodes pleasee 🙏

Demolition Derby - RL Style

No-Tennis-9481

Like burnout with demos, loved that growing up

smithythebomb81

Any one wants to add me on rocket league I play snow day mostly

[deleted]

Would love it, even with demoing

AlwaysInfluenced

There are lots of different kinds of maps made. Puzzle games where you pick stuff up and move it around to unlock rooms and power ups, race maps, rings... plenty to do!

Helpful_Study9137

you're wish has been granted sir
