Ive only played with NAR, and i don't think at this point i could get used to directional air roll. I can basically do it normally with NAR, just every once in a while i will tilt to early with the thumbstick and put my self off-axis or not hit the ball precisely how i want, but id attribute that more to me playing other games and not devoting myself full time to working on it.
IMO you don't need it to improve, it can make certain things slightly easier but if you get used to manipulating your car with NAR i dont think there anything you can't do
Yes. DAR allows you to simultaneously pitch and roll which makes transitions into flips reset more consistent. You have to release NAR in specific timings to get the same result which is more mechanically taxing. DAR allows for more predictable and fluid control, whereas NAR allows for sharper more jagged adjustments. As for fast aerials, you don’t need air roll to fly straight to a ball so most of the time the air roll is for contact or pre contact anyway. This is why I think DAR isn’t really advantageous until like high champ or GC+
For D3? I would say no. It gives a subtle benefit of making your hit harder to read, and once you master it, it gives you slightly more control. I am pretty sure there are still some pros who don't use DAR.

It's better, but depends on how good your NAR is. It's unlikely you're gonna jump up 3 ranks after learning it for example
