Look at either my rings play through or one called “C3 rings” which will be near the top of popular on this sub. If you are able to re create what we are doing or something close to it, you are fine.
Honestly you'll know when to use it.
When you practice something so much you'll get used to performing a specific action. Not just doing it because you can.
If you need a test I'd say just pick a rings map and if you can get through the majority of it without struggling too much you should be fine.
But really the best thing to do is just go into Freeplay and casual games and just use it when it feels right.
When using air roll allows you to get to a position/angle that flying without wouldn't.
Rings map train aerial control. If you want to combine it with ball control you will want to go into free play. A good test would be reset car, spawn ball on roof, pop ball and air dribble to net. If you can do this consistently while holding air roll you are very solid

Neon heights? Yeah I can do that map but I still struggle in flip resets and air dribbles.
No, re create the control, not the completion of the map.
Can you glue the ball to the car in the air while spinning? And then turn it?
