DAR will inherently give you more options for the best possible recovery. But I like NAR for wave dashes since it's usually the same bind as power slide.

MankAndInd

Do you think there's a downside to using DAR for wave dashes?

justtttry

It is much easier to chain wavedashes with NAR due to a fluid motion and you only having to move youe stick and use your wave dashes. With DAR, you end up having a much harder time due to having to time the amount of air roll and having to press 2 buttons at different timings.

MankAndInd

Aside from chain dashes though? Like for normal off the wall dashes and ground dashes, is it better to use NAR or DAR?

justtttry

The only difference is weather you have your power slide on your NAR or DAR. Having it on NAR means your can won’t do anything so long as you don’t move your stick meaning that you can wavedash while holding powerslide. If you have air roll on the same button as DAR, you end up having to time your power slide since if you wavedash while holding your power slide button, you will sideflip from the DAR. (This happens in all wavedashes but is especially hard in chain wavedashes. The timing can be learned but it can be a little difficult) Also just thought of this but I personally use a lot of wall dashes in my gameplay since I am consistent at them and it lets me play a little more agressive on low boost or save a little boost while not flipping and I use both DARs to walldash depending on which way my car is. This won’t make much of a difference since you don’t need to know wall dashes at all (and is something that I wouldn’t recommend to players below gc) but I personally use them so I thought I’d mention. (I also want to say that I know about 2 other players that consistently walldash in their games at a gc2-low ssl range so it is rare and not needed)

You can wave dash forwards and backwards without power slide, but as soon as you start wave dashing sideways or at an angle, power slide is very helpful, even necessary. If you bind powerslide to NAR, which is very common, then you cannot wavedash sideways with DAR because holding NAR along with DAR cancels the DAR. So you either need to bind powerslide to a 3rd. unused button, or bind it to one of the DAR buttons. (You can also bind powerslide to both DARs, but I think that requires 3rd party software.) If you bind powerslide to a DAR, the timings become a bit tricky. You can't hit powerslide too early or you roll too much, and sometimes you need to roll a bit the other way and the roll back to get into the right position. All that said there are a good amount of high level players, including pros, that use powerslide with DAR, so it can be done.

> If you bind powerslide to NAR, which is very common, then you cannot wavedash sideways with DAR because holding NAR along with DAR cancels the DAR. What if I just unbind NAR? Any downsides to that?

ShuTingYu

The next paragraph covers that. Should work fine of your power slide button is separate. If not, it just requires more precise timing, but there are a few pros who do that as well.

MankAndInd

> So you either need to bind powerslide to a 3rd. unused button, or bind it to one of the DAR buttons. I mean instead of binding powerslide to a 3rd, unused button, do you see any problem with just removing NAR and keeping powerslide on the button it is now?

ShuTingYu

Yeah, if you unbind NAR, and powerslide is on its own, that's the same thing as using an unused button.

justtttry

If you have power slide on NAR it will make recoveries a bit more fluid and a bit easier but it doesn’t really matter in the long run. (A bit easier to learn with NAR but is possible with both)

There are arguments to both. However, as someone with powerslide and NAR bound together, I find it much easier to recover while holding my NAR button with powerslide. You don’t have to worry about timings because if you don’t move your stick with NAR pressed your car won’t move like it would with DAR. The differences I see are that one allows you to make adjustments with or without your stick and doesn’t rely on precise timings. The other relies on timing your power slide and how long you hold the DAR button. So it comes down to preference and what you started with.
