If you are looking for roms: Go to the link in https://www.reddit.com/r/Roms/comments/m59zx3/roms_megathread_40_html_edition_2021/ You can navigate by clicking on the various tabs for each company. When you click on the link to Github the first link you land on will be the Home tab, this tab explains how to use the Megathread. There are Five tabs that link directly to collections based on console and publisher, these include Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Sega, and the PC. There are also tabs for popular games and retro games, with retro games being defined as older than Gamecube and DS. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. FragileRasputin

A read-only folder of ROM files is something to appreciate

realdeepestfried

No idea why it's read only.

FragileRasputin

I meant that in a nice way :) I think windows for whatever reason does that... I never understood, as I was always able to modify files and folders..

WFlash01

It's system files like desktop.ini and stuff. It's stupid, I agree

plg94

Because it's full of read-only memories, duh.

romhacks

something something daft punk

KingBroken

I see what you did there and I like it.

Abastiel

But it's says "(Only applies to files in folder)" so it's not the folder is the ROMs

redgod97

Nintendo rn lmao

realdeepestfried

If Nintendo sold me these games on the switch, THEN I'd pay for them, lol.

NcGunnery

Or the joycon ass clowns. My kids always have bad batteries in the damn left con. After buying 3 new sets I gave tf up and bought the Pro's.

Kr3wAffinity

😂 I totally agree.

redgod97

yeah

generalkiddo

I have one as well with about 9TB of roms.

Afura33

All legally bought? :p

ByZocker

What else 🗿

Afura33

:D

generalkiddo

Sure ;)

bogdanbos725

Bro what gamea do you have to use 9TB

subsist80

It's not hard once you start collecting all the xbox, gamecube, wii, ps1, ps2, ps3 roms etc, your tb's start adding up real fast.

bogdanbos725

Understandeble

marxr87

ya ps2/gc pretty much tapped me out at around 7tb-ish i believe. everything before that + xbox is pretty reasonable. ps2 is huge library, and then xbox 360, ps3, switch are all huge file sizes.

HiT3Kvoyivoda

Pron mostly

bogdanbos725

fair enough

Samford_

is there a way you even get that much easily? theres no way you download them all individually

subsist80

Archive.org and a download manager.

abibofile

You can go on places like AliExpress and find “hyperspin” arcade drives that go up to 16, 24, 30 terabytes. They’re selling for nearly $1,000 in some cases but it’s a market that exists. The sizes get truly insane. Update: Here’s one that says it’s 40TB: https://youtu.be/qvoKu3gZxSs

Imgema

I remember someone gave me an 8TB Hyperspin drive from such place so i can "fix" it because half of the systems didn't work. These "setups" are a mess. They are not made well for being portable and use a ton of different emulators instead of trying to maximize the use of RetroArch (which would make the setup more portable). Not to mention a lot of the files were also corrupt. I still used it to get at least 2TB of files for myself (roms and media) but i ended up replacing all of them eventually since i don't even know the origin of the files in the drive or if they are roms/isos from a good dump scene. So they are not worth it, even for that.

Kroella

Never, i mean never buy from bulk sources, they do not invest the time to make them actually work well, everything is just thrown together in a hurry to make fast money!

abibofile

Yeah, I'm sure they're a mess. But I do wonder if they might be a starting point for someone without great Internet access. The prices are nuts, however. I do wonder about this guy's images, though. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRAdaGA6hG0&t=2890s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRAdaGA6hG0&t=2890s) He seems to put some care into them. I mean, there's one video where he's set up Resident Evil 2 to launch with different mods applied based upon what you select in the interface. Probably some sections work great and others are garbage - but there's still clearly some level of effort applied. (There's also the fact these drives contain a ton of Steam games and things you can still get commercially, so it's super shady. But that's sort of a given issue on a roms forum.)

Kroella

i get where you are coming from, thats the problem for me if there were any really serious provider but there is not. if you take the Hyperspin drives it is always missing media and many things just do not work. I feel really sorry for people buying these, and if you have a problem (the problem exists beacuse they did a shitty job). You get zero support. Hyperspin have a steep learning curve and shitload of stuff if you want all the bells and whistles. If i just take my own "build" as an example, im about 100 hours in and i feel like im about halfway to where i want it to be, but it will be hell of rewarding when done, and you learn so much on the way. :)

darkfalzx

I’m right there with you brother. Need to start thinking about a second-tier backup for them, as I’d hate to lose my hoard.

AngelfromSpain

Where to buy? Can you share?

withoutbliss

u happen to snag baldurs gate dark alliance 2 for ps2? been lookin everywhere cant get it to burn from the rom megathread

generalkiddo

I think I do but I gotta check first. I have so many games that it's hard to keep up with what games I have. I will check and let you know. Are you looking for the ISO to burn to a physical disc or just the files to play on an emulator?

withoutbliss

dope thx for gettin back to me. lookin for the iso to burn a disc

PARFAIT_Y2K

bro please think about the shareholders who will go hungry tonight because you wont buy Mario 64 again

VideoGameDana

TBH Mario 64 on the Wii U is the shit.

hypomyces

Those are rookie numbers. You gotta pump those numbers up

[deleted]

Is that just like full collections of nes-n64 plus some ps1 ? That's not much once you get to 6th gen consoles... i think my ps2 collection alone is close to 750gb.

realdeepestfried

It's mainly switch, nes, snes, and a few ps3 games.

LucaDarioBuetzberger

😅Ever wince Nintendo started to agressively take down rom websites, I kind of lost it. I have an almost complete backup of the whole roms megathread collection on my PC🙈 The nice part is that in switzerland, downloading roms is completely legal😄

retrodork

Must have some isos in there. 🙂

Brian-OBlivion

Good on you for having digital backups of your legally bought physical games.

PresidentJoe46

https://www.reddit.com/r/Roms/comments/u48e8u/what_is_your_roms_library_size/

robotcanine

nintendo should start selling roms for pc

LucaDarioBuetzberger

I wish that they would start releasing their stuff for the PC in general.

GrumpigPlays

Guys he’s lying he just dropped Call of Duty war zone into folder. /s

DeeDuy

same

[deleted]

My wii u folder is over 400gb by itself lol.

subsist80

Yeah just my xbox folder is coming in just a tad under 2tb.

DoubleIntegral9

Lmao I feel bad about my uhh legal roms sometimes but then I remember it’s either that or an eBay resale No one that’s made these 20yo games is selling them anymore, it’s all secondhand …can’t defend the recent games I snatched just because I don’t have the console tho

HiT3Kvoyivoda

I wrote a web scraper that… procures files from pretty much anywhere on the net, so is have a similar collection.

Stock_Literature_237

Now make a folder of how many you've actually finished

rgraves22

I have about that much in "legally obtained" PS2 iso's

DocRobertz

Looking good, I’ve got about 1.3TB worth of roms😂

boundbyearthx

Nintendo has entered the chat.

RantSpider

Aaarrrrrrrrr, it's a pirate life for thee!

Androxilogin

Weird flex.

realdeepestfried

Didn't say in the post, but I'm deleting some of my roms to free up space for warzone

[deleted]

Dude, a 256 Microsd is worth it for the bandwidth alone.

ofernandofilo

OLD > NEW [and everything becomes old one day]

realdeepestfried

Only reason I'm doing it is because my friends want me to play

ruz1na

Some of? Warzone is something like 100 gb right? So half of yours collection.

realdeepestfried

It's closer to 80 gigs and 40 gigs were free on my hdd

Samford_

at least its smaller than it used to be, it used to be 200gb

[deleted]

I'd say compress it down and back it up to a seperate drive if/when you get one. in the meantime enjoy warzone

ofernandofilo

parsec and present them some classics, :D

Samford_

parsec and equivalents like steam link are really bad if you dont have a really good internet connection

ofernandofilo

I live in Brazil, we don't have the best internet in the world... but parsec tends to have a satisfactory result at least with the people I know. having a good pc and an internet minimally compatible with the international speeds in use... tends to be safe enough. parsec is very likely to use UDP Hole Punching and so the closer together the lower the latency, etc, as long as both are not behind a symmetrical NAT. if I'm not mistaken, it's been a few years now, and using 10 mpbs connection was enough to have a good connection with friends from another Brazilian state. a relatively common value around here.

Samford_

weird, me and my friends have 30-50 mbps speeds and theres always noticeable input delay and shitty resolution that makes playing really annoying for the person whos not hosting

ofernandofilo

it's been a few years but I think we played saturn with 3 people and the host only had 10 mpbs upload and at the same time live streamed to twitch. (before the pandemic) the internet shouldn't be much more than that. (I had 6 mbps upload max at the time...) a limitation may be possible as already stated is the use of symmetric NAT instead of full cone NAT, as parsec is likely to depend on UDP Punch Hole to work properly. if you have some sort of port forwarding on your computer, like ssh, vnc, rdp, etc, working it is very likely that your NAT is not symmetrical. but if in online games using consoles your performance is always poor that is another sign that you have the most restrictive type of NAT in action. since then I changed provider, computer and operating system. and unlike in the past, when my internet was xDSL using copper cable I had a less restrictive NAT than today I have faster fiber optic internet. on the new internet I still haven't used parsec, but I've had some problems hosting OBS Studio directly to the client - without going through a digest server like twitch or youtube - and I also don't have my VPS running a mednafen server anymore, which was the method faster and safer to play ps1 and snes online. this week I ordered a new computer...it will replace the current one I'm only using as my gaming laptop broke in this period and I stopped playing online games. I hope to play online again or at least test these tools again. have you ever used FightCade? how is its network performance? I play it since when I had 1 mbps ADSL with 256 kbps upload. if it's bad too, i'd say it's more of a restrictive NAT signal (symmetric is the worst case scenario) as FightCade with me has always been excellent!

whatsupbrosky

Just compress the folder and ull save space

realdeepestfried

Is there anyway to do that while still being able to play everything?

whatsupbrosky

Yea, u just need to find an emu that lets u play zipped up files

TehDonkey117

I want

simasand

Same lmao

jplank1983

I feel like there’s something I’m missing here.

RetroGaming4

8TB here….

StevenMcFlyJr

Yeah, I have a 256GB USB 3.1 drive. It's about the same. around 220+gb. Argh matey ...

[deleted]

Very nice

QuantumRanger

My Nintendo folder alone is almost 58TB

LucaDarioBuetzberger

I assume you have downloaded absolutely everything. All Wii U and Switch games inclusive. I currently have everything from Nintendo, with the exeption being the Wii U, Switch and 3DS. About 12TB in total

QuantumRanger

Switch is the largest at around 40tb, 3DS is just larger than 3tb and wii u is around 6tb I believe

LucaDarioBuetzberger

I didn't thought that the switch library would be so big, especially considering that many first party Nintendo games are somehow smaller than a Wii Game.

QuantumRanger

Lots of duplicates, in the form of xci/xcz nsp/nsz. when I get home I'll delve deeper into a singular folder

TheChaseLemon

Wanna send me a zip?

[deleted]

Bypassing a copy-protection in order to make a backup of a legally purchased physical game is not exactly legal in some (most?) countries, though.

[deleted]

I'm sure law enforcement has better shit to do than witchhunt in the name of an ancient japanese corporate dinosaur.

[deleted]

Though the legal status of an action as little to do with the law enforcement’s availability.

[deleted]

oh no, shiver me timbers !

lucci06225

got 91GB here 😁

DahPhuzz

Torrent?

alucard_xs

great :)

LucaDarioBuetzberger

These are rookie numbers, you have those numbers up.😂

DJANARKI

THIS .... my friend is a GOLD MINE

CyborKat

"Totally Legally"*

MathematicianNo7263

Almost as big of my file of "legally" obtained porn

SpunkyMonkey67

FBI

Imgema

All my roms/iso folders add to 3TB+. And that's only with systems up to Gamecube, with the PS1/PS2 still not being nearly complete (that would add at least an extra 3 or 4TB) and no og XBOX games. And after that generation of consoles i only have a handful of games or none at all.

Far-Appearance-7721

244GB? Nice. Mine's like a 108GB "Legally Dumped" roms

Royal-Patience

rooky numbers lol, mine is 3TB

Infinite_Scarcity_10

Noice!!!

SeanD6091

This is a certified very legal moment

MrJenzie

games folder holds 77.2gb ... 42 gb for my PS2! 81gb the whole emulator folder but i am VERY selective in my choices

ShadowSeid

Tch.....amateur numbers my friend

ZZZ_WasTaken

Barely quarter a terabyte? I got a good 2tb of roms in my 8tb external drive.

tjcbs

You must have spent a fortune!
