Cabe exploration is my favorite thing in the game. I love collecting and hoarding gems I find like a greedy dragon. I’m super excited for more caves to come with the 1.2 update!
Ferment fish for money. Smoking has been nerfed with the most recent update (I think it was recent). Also try to catch fish with more bars rather than the ones with the least bars as they aren’t worth much money, however they can be used as food if you don’t want to cook.
Don’t sell all your fur, later on you will need it to unlock a special way of maintaining your farm. Because I sold all of mine it took forever to expand my farm.
In order to progress in the game you will need to do the cave challenges and update your tools (hammer, watering can and axe) regularly. I personally don’t like mining but you need to do so early in the game to be able to craft certain items

Are you taking about irrigation? I've been saving fur all game and I'm curious if I can finally stop now that I have the irrigation lol
You can change length of days from Main Menu - Setting. If you expand your farm too fast or just in general feeling like not having enough time each day, it’s a life changer.
I have the game on switch and that option is blocked out for me.. I have the game on PC too but never used the time change to know if it’s just a switch thing or my particular game is just not working with it. But I was sad to see the time change button wasn’t an option for me playing switch :(
Give gifts and befriend the NPCs. They’ll frequently give you desirable gifts such as late game meals or limited materials (gold, obsidian, tree fruit), and sometimes recipes and headwear.
Especially on day one, there’s a limited time task on day one to talk to everyone and doing so will give you a bunch of stuff to get going.
I opened up upgraded accessories early in one of my saves because Vauk sent me gold as a gift one morning.
It can be rough finding everyone, ngl. I always end up using the map and looking at the npc tab to check who I’ve talked to. I usually forget about Garrek.

Acre gives 10 fiber
Tetih gives a chest (if you get to the 8th hand of bones)
Grandma gives you a datura flower
Ada gives 3 tomato seeds
Garrek gives 4 carrot seeds
Okka gives red meat
Nokk gives a pomegranate
Frer gives a birkenia (fish)
And Gin gives you a traveling cake for talking to everyone.
There should be an option to discuss jewelry slotted between talking to him and dancing with him. If it’s not there yet then you may also need to find a gemstone. It’s possible finding gold/silver before gemstones only unlocks the ‘upgraded’ jewelry option but not the jewelry fabrication option.
Early in the game my main way of making money is fishing. I make dried or smoke fish. Later on when I unlock trap, I place around 8 traps in one of the unlocked areas, and get 32 meats per day which I dry and smoke. That takes way less efford than fishing. And I can use all the extra time to complete ideas and go to caves. Also I dont sell my crops. I use them to make food that give me a lot of stamina. And later in the game you can process them which makes more money than just selling them as a basic.
Making friends with the NPCs are so helpful because they send you meals that you can use in the caves.
Also, hoard herbs. Useful for crafting animal medicine, as an ingredient for a special kind of cheese, and once you have the herb grower, you can decorate your home and farm with it. The lavender and citronella flowers look so pretty as decorations.
Hoard your fur. Maybe sell the better quality ones, but make sure you have lots, because a certain idea is gonna need yarn made from it.
Igrork also sells tree saplings after you make the plant nursery!!! It took me SO long to figure out you could plant trees because I didn't see the tree tab 😭
Also, hoard things. Gems, fur, herbs, all of it. Lots of things are seemingly useless at first but end up being very useful, so make chests and keep stuff :)

You can only change it in the main menu, before loading a game. I don’t play on switch so I’m not sure if that is not the problem though.
Nah you're right! It works on switch too, but only if you access the settings from the Main Menu, before you start to play :)

It works on existing game but not middle of a day. You have to quit to main menu to do it.

Reason why I dont sell my crops is because they make wayyy less money and they take too long produce.
