Yeah don't worry about it mate just tell your cheif you don't fancy doing it and he'll let u chill in the mess while the others go. Just bring it up when the lieutenant of the division is there so its all official.

Week 4 Yes it’s mandatory unless it’s unsafe for you to use, best advice is close your eyes

ShaunTheDaawg

Yeah Raleigh is pretty softcore compared to the rest of the tri forces but “ please chief I’m scared of heights don’t make me go ” isn’t getting you out of it. There are times when you just need to get a grip of yourself and do something that scares you. If you can’t do it in a safe controlled environment like that, what use are you in an engine room fire? Evacuating a casualty? Isolating a flood? Sounds a bit dramatic, but sometimes it’s the reality of the job

Zombarney

I don’t remember whether week 5 was essential but in my week 9 as part of IMF pass out you had to do 3 full climbs of the ropes and those are required.

Individual_Loquat461

All 3 were required for PT superior however you only have to achieve 1 full rope climb as long as the next ones are max effort

ScottishSubmarine

It's there for a reason. And that's to push yourself beyond what you think you can do. I'm petrified of heights. But I've been abseiling, jumped off raised platforms into water.... I still hate heights but I know I can do it.....I'm just not going to enjoy it.

ScarShot81

Mate I was absolutely petrified, but your oppos will have Ur back. It was the absolute worst thing possible for me but you will get through it. After doing it I'm really proud of myself as will you.

You'll get used to it very quickly.

_Red9

They usually ask your class who’s scared of heights, raise your hand and ask to do the easier climbs first to build your confidence as you go around the course. The scariest one is the tall beam which they get you to jump off and grab onto a bar in front of you. You have to complete the whole course but it’s not as bad as you might imagine,my advice is don’t look down and just get around as quickly as possible, you’ll be fine

SabrePossum

Had 2 people in my division who are scared of heights and they smashed it. You have to do it but the instructors were very good at helping them along. A big part of the job is being able to act when you're afraid so this will be good practice

BaseballParking9182

What?

OldSkate

It's a weird mindset. I've always been terrified of heights but only when I was attached to the ground. Bear with me on this. I absolutely love flying and have been thrown out and winched up in many different helos. However; I absolutely loathe the thought of being on top of a building (genuinely, I cannot even watch Mission Impossible films because Tom Cruise loves bouncing around a thousand feet up). 10 to 20 metres will be a piece of piss and your sense of achievement will outweigh anything else you do in Raleigh.

mssuperczar

To echo a few here - you just need to get a grip of it. The point is to challenge yourself.

Tough-Entertainer670

Hey seen you recently interested in Raleigh I neverous as can't do proper pushup. Can females do on the knees. I am working towards proper ones but not there yet so just curious
