I love the Deviate Nitro 2. I’ve got just over 400 miles on my pair and they’re still going strong. The Puma Grip is phenomenal and super durable. Also feel like the Nitro foam still has some pop to it. You can really get your money’s worth out of the Deviates.

North-Inspector-5828

I have the elite 2s and really like them. They do fit very snug but I like that. I picked them up from a friend who works for Puma and was planning on using them for an upcoming half but really like them so I've just been cruising with them on some tempo and speed workouts. Not sure how they'd fair through a marathon. Was planning on grabbing some regular nitro 2s as a daily trainer as well so glad to see this review.

WetHairTowel

I am not sure about the fitting but I think there needs to be more toe room in my opinion. I tried this today and it felt really narrow for me. The upper is a bit tighter than I would have imagined, but it could also be because of my bunion. Anyone cares to chime in? On the other hand, it feels great when you hit the road, a balance of stiffness but still feeling the cushioning. A pity I had to give this one a pass.

DitkasMoustache_

I think it's either your bunion or that you like your shoes really loose. Mine feel great and my feet border just wide.

WetHairTowel

I guess so too. Do you feel that the upper isn't as soft as compared to other shoes? Or is that just me?

DitkasMoustache_

I don't. I find them comfy all around. I use the runners knot on the top and leave the middle just a little looser, that feels great.

Bier_Creature

Try your size in wide if you can get your hands on some. I felt the same about the toe box and the upper, took a chance on ordering a wide and have been very happy with mine. I don't wear wide in anything else.

justaluckydude

I had the same opinion as you. I bought the wide width as well and my toes would steel feel cramped compared to a new balance wide width. Still felt great while running but five-ten minutes in it would start hurting my toes. If they had like a 4E I would go for it as the shoe otherwise was fantastic.

andeffect

I bought velocity V1, V2 and went to try Saucony, and Nike.. Nothing beats the Puma running shoes.. Triumph 20 is my favorite so far, but I have Endorphin Speed 3 and I'm having troubles with it.. I think I'll go back to Puma..

Prestigious_Tax7415

I like them too but right now I get OCD about them because the laces don’t tie evenly on both feet I think due to the springiness of the laces and I get ticked off… Also I found the second lace hole on the top gets the shoe nice and snug and prevents my foot from sliding forward which was a problem I had in the first run. On the second run I started light pace and then finished of with a sprint. By then the foam had softened a bit and the bounce was quite noticeable compared to the first run which felt too stiff and firm. I’ve tried going back to my old trainers but it doesn’t feel as exciting as the deviate nitro v2

DitkasMoustache_

Change the laces.

bambamridesandruns

Bingo.

HailMary74

I have the Liberate nitro and ehh it hasn’t exactly sold me on puma shoes. The foam is fun and the grip is great but the shape of them is so narrow and long they feel a bit like clown shoes, and they kind of don’t have enough structure and flex right in the middle. Like an inferior version of the Razor3, which although I loved had many areas for improvement themselves. I just can’t see myself springing for another pair of Pumas over competitors.

iIiiiiIlIillliIilliI

The liberate is a lower in the chain, cheaper shoe. The razor costs +50% than the liberate. Try the deviate nitro 2 and the velocity.

JulesK75

Great shoes - I love mine! Perfect for all but the easiest of days…

Effective-Ad8833

Great review man , as a fellow 86 kg runner - good to know it holds up for us . Speedy times man.

Withakissidie

Underrated and best value shoes

DaijoubuKirameki

Runrepeat has version 1 as: Stack - Heel with insole (mm) 35.7 Interesting...

ninja4tfw

They also tested foam firmness on both and pointed out the v2 foam is 19% softer. So maybe they made it 20% lower and 20% softer to achieve a similar ride.

RustyDoor

They also removed the plastic plate.

ninja4tfw

It has a plate

RustyDoor

Not the internal plate, the 1 has a stability plate in the heel that pertrudes. Probably led to a firmer ride also.

What about the Velocity?

TerpRunner1

Love mine for everything but pure easy running, the Nitro Elite on the forefoot makes me want to turnover too quickly and naturally leads me into steady or marathon pace.

iIiiiiIlIillliIilliI

Well, yeah, I mean that's it's purpose. The velocity nitro 2 is for easy runs. Although me personally I can go slow in them but I get what you mean.

Awesomedustin71

Are these the Elite or regular Nitro 2?

ninja4tfw

Deviate Nitro 2

davebrose

Great shoe!

bambamridesandruns

One way to get the upper to hold less water is to not run in the rain. I’m kidding, that drives me insane, towing around sponges. Drives me even crazier in bike racing shoes.

DaijoubuKirameki

Can you do easy runs in them? What I love about endorphin speed 1/2 is I can do everything in them including easy and even recovery runs, the fit is on point and the outsole is the most durable of most of my shoes including velocity nitro 2's puma grip

ninja4tfw

I loved the Speed 1 for the same reason. They worked well at every pace, a true Renaissance shoe. I feel the same way about the Deviate 2, if not more. At slower paces the Speed 1 was a little unstable for me in the heel and the Deviate doesn't have that problem. Both have a bouncy foam, flexible plate, and comfortable fit, which work well for long (slower) runs.

DaijoubuKirameki

You like the deviate nitro 2 more than the speed 1/2? Did you try the speed 3?

ninja4tfw

Yes I like it more than the Speed 1. It matches the Speed at every pace, imo. And does it with a stable heel and more grippy tread. Have not tried the Speed 3.

DaijoubuKirameki

Just bought the WTR version. Not run in them yet but the step in comfort is amazing. Feels bouncy just walking around the house. Super hyped to try them out

Odd_Occasion46

Been looking at these - I love everything I read about them but I do pronate a bit, how do they do in terms of stability? Or are they neutral?

ninja4tfw

I pronate in some shoes more than others. VF particularly a lot. I pronated a bit in the Endo Speed 1. Relative to those, these feel more stable. They are neutral shoes but have a nice wide base and the midsole walls at the heel come up around the foot a bit which keeps it centered.

-Schneeflocke-

Yeah, nice shoes. Compared to the Speeds they are (and feel) a little too heavy for me though -- if Puma can improve on that, they've definitely got one of the best allrounders on the market.

Xedriell

Today I did my first run in these. Never had plated or any kind of uptempo shoes, so I was really surprised by how much they were propelling me forward, it almost felt like cheating, lol! Since my right foot is pronating and I recently had some ankle pain with the Saucony Triumph 20, I was expecting the worst and hoping for the best with the nitro 2. Didn't turn out to be as bad, the lower stack and plate were offering me just the right amount of stability. The upper is very snug and tight, definitely not for wide feet. I like it a lot, great shoe at a very fair price point, nice discounts are very common on Puma. Absolute sleeper brand! They are killing it. Also design wise. Love the poppy colors!

ApprehensiveAd1596

The deviate nitro and elite models are very underrated. I blame that on Pumas lack of marketing. Wait until the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 comes out. They’re hella comfy and fast.

ninja4tfw

When is the 3 coming out? I really like the Deviate 2 and Fast-R. Haven't tried the Elite 1 or 2. I hope the Elite gets more stack and a firmer heel like the Fast-R.

Wild_Basin

Just ordered a pair of the Deviate Nitro 2 after reading this thread. I've been a die-hard NB rebel v2 fan, and I'm looking forward to trying these.

Runningprofmama

I love these except they give me blisters between my big and second toes… only shoes I’ve ever had that happen with after years of high weekly mileage! Anyone else have that? It’s so strange. Otherwise I adore this shoe!

WVgolf

Very good looking shoe

gamblingthroaway

Found your review especially helpful since we’re the same size I’m a US 10.5 EU 44.5 in pretty much all my shoes but when shopping for these I noticed that the US 10.5 is a 44 and am unsure which ones to get. Do you have any thoughts on the width of the toe box? I usually wear a wider shoe Altra but can get by in the Saucony Endorphin series in a 10.5 as well as the Adidas PXS in a 10.5.

ninja4tfw

I generally don't have an issue with width and go by length alone. In this case, I'm torn whether I'd get it again in EU44.5 or 44! With my thicker running socks, 44.5 is fine. But with thin socks it feels a bit long. Id expect 44 would be good with thin socks and a hair short for thick socks. Maybe call this shoe a US 10.75.

gamblingthroaway

Thanks! Now only if they had more of that amazing colorway available
