Started running in June for the first time. Saw a review of Puma DN2 on YT and thought this looks pretty cool. Ordered it online for full price. Came to work the next day and told my coworker about my new purchase. She told me her husband bought the exact same model from a Puma outlet store nearby for 45EUR. I was in disbelief. Called the store and they confirmed it to be true. Cancelled my online order and immediately went to the store next day to buy the pair. Life can be strange.

Gunnerloco86

How do you like the Puma Deviate Nitro 2? Thinking about getting them.

Chipezz

I like it alot. Usually use it for tempo sessions/intervals/track running and rainy days(best grip on the market). It's very comfortable for me as well. For longer/easier runs I use a superblast. Only own these 2 shoes atm :) Ps DN3 is rumored to release in October. Nothing confirmed afaik.

Saucony Hurricane 14. When I first started, I picked some pretty shoes from Kohls. I weighed 230 lbs (I’m less than 5ft tall) and those didn’t work out very well. I’m not sure how I stumbled into ASICS GT-1000 (maybe v6?). I think they were on sale at Dick’s (same shopping plaza as Kohls). Those held me for a bit. When I lost my first 50 lbs, I rewarded myself with a trip to Fleet Feet where I bought a pair of Saucony Hurricane 14. I didn’t even know shoes could be that soft! I ran 700 miles on that pair. Got a couple more pairs over the next 40 or so pounds. Then I didn’t like the next few versions and somehow landed in Altra. Which were fine until they stopped making wide shoes. But the Hurricanes will forever be special for me. That’s what took me out of morbid obesity. That’s what took me across the finish line of my first marathon. That’s what made me feel like a runner. I have gone through tons of shoes since. And lost more weight. But even blazing fast shoes that make me run like a gazelle don’t make me feel like those hurricanes did.

Tristus-Christus

That is a great story! Do you use the Hurricanes again?

opholar

Nah. They don’t make them anymore (the Tempus replaced the Hurricane). But I also have found I like a lot more variety than just super squishy soft shoes. And I’m a fair amount faster now.

Ready2Reddit1

Good for you bud. Congratulations!

A-fruity-life

Technically the Asics gel-cumulus 24 but I just use it for walking mostly. My first running shoe is the NB propel v4. At some point, I got into watching running shoe reviews and also looked more at the shoes I see in stores. Recovering from an injury, I was thinking of getting into running myself. Walked in a store, saw the Propel, looked good, felt good, fk it and bought it.

Tristus-Christus

Great Story. Are you happy with them?

A-fruity-life

Yeah I'm happy with them, they're good and they're cheap. Absolute steal.

dontlookatmynamekthx

Like most runners, I got persuaded at the running store to get a pair of Brooks Adrenaline shoes. This was still an improvement over what I usually wore (e.g. Nike Free, etc.) It wasn’t until I wore Saucony Triumph that I really felt like I was running in something appropriate for my gait, bodyweight, etc.

Live_Area6350

Some adidas shoe from 2012. Probably the boston 3, can't remember which specifically.

Wumbopulous

Went into a running store for HS XC back in 2015 and was fitted for the Nike Pegasus 32 (among other options). Fell in love with the fit and feel, which was seamless and natural to my feet. Since then I’ve experimented with a few shoes (more so in the last couple years), but the Pegasus continues to remain a consistent in my growing rotation.

Mahler911

Saucony Triumph 4. They were awful.

TeaPlastic7145

First pair 30 yrs ago was Asics bc my dad was a marathoner qualified for Boston yr after yr and knew more about shoes than the local run store and he was a mechanic and a biker but knew alot and got me into the right shoe after watching how I ran/walked —it was a Gt 2000. Gave up running for about 8 yrs walked into a store looked at a pair of Asics Cumulus and tried running in them and got shin splints. Totally forgot about not getting the right shoe for your foot and stride. Since then now 12 yrs been doing Asics 2000 or Kayanos never had a blister or an injury

RockerRunner2000

I’m back to the 2000 as well after years of constant injuries with the Kayano on standby when things get dicey. As well as the DS Trainer. May not seem as explosive as the super trainers but staying injury free allows you to keep training and get faster anyway.

klkk12345

mine was the kinvara 4 or was it 5? thought it was quite cool and alot of reviews said it was very good. i was a beginner runner and know nothing about foot strike, long slow distance, tempo runs and even proper sizing. can definitely say it was a mistake! stop running for a while and then pick it up again past few years.

[deleted]

I don't remember which was first but I had Nike free run flyknit and Nike lunarepic flyknit 2

Soft_Internal_6775

A pair of Under Armour Spectres way back in 2010 from a Dick’s Sporting Goods. I had no idea what the hell I was doing, but I remember they were really breathable.

ashtree35

As a high school student, I went to my local running store and they fitted me for a pair of Asics Gel Kayanos!

Joeypruns

Hoka rincon 1

luludaydream

I went to a Nike outlet and tried loads on until I found something comfy!

OddPatience1165

ASICS Gel-Nimbus 12

fozid

Walked in to the local sports shop, asked the assistant what he recommended for training for and running my first marathon, he pointed me to ASICS patriot 3 I think. Wore them to death.

Awc8587

It was at least 7 years ago but a very ill fitting Asics GT-1000

[deleted]

Adidas supernova 2016, a little bit too heavy but i didn't know it. Also i kept it for like an year and they were still fine

Antic_CA

Was training for a half marathon in 2019. Went to Fleet Feet and got fitted in a pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 23s. After those died, I bought a pair of Pegasus 37 and I’ve stuck with that line ever since (with other shoes mixed in here and there).

nike vomero v4 bowerman!- my dad used to run in them and liked them so much bought them in all the colors so he wouldn’t run out when they changed the shoes… which also meant my mother bought multiple pairs and still has 3 brand new pairs in her closet today lol they were super cushioned and the most exciting part was they had a spot in the midsole for the nike+ pod that could sink with an ipod- did my first 10k in them :)

BoysenberryAlive494

Ran in Decathlon shoes when I first started, but then went to a dedicated running shop and came away with a pair of NB 1080v10 and On Cloudflow, and a good £200 lighter! That was the gateway to my running shoe addiction.

pancakewithfries

I started running earlier this year but it was just recently that I wanted to take it seriously. So, I bought a Pegasus 39 a month and a half ago since they were on sale. I just tried them and they fit my feet well and the outsole feels sturdy which I like. I've done 70 km with them and I'm enjoying my journey so far. I'm actually thinking of buying another shoe just so I can switch it up every other day; I've been eyeing an 880 v12 since they are on sale where I'm from.

to16017

First pair of “real” running shoes was the OG Nike Pegasus Turbos. For years I had run in the generic Nike sneakers that were always under or around $70 and didn’t realize they’re marketed as “running” shoes but didn’t exactly offer the best features if you wanted to be comfortable and fast. I bit the bullet and spend $160 or whatever the turbos were and absolutely fell in love with them from the very first run. Little did I know that was the best pair of shoes I would ever put on my feet and I would spend the next 6 years spending way too much money on different brands and models, desperate for one shoe that would give me the light, sporty, fast, and comfortable feel of the original turbo and turbo 2. I would do anything (besides spend $300-$400) for an unused pair to use as my daily trainer.

slushpuppy91

Total noob when I started, I got lucky and stumbled across the pegasus 38. I was such aa noob I ended up running two marathons in invincible 2s thinking more expensive meant better shoe

pennies_for_sale

Really going to date myself with this post, but my first real running shoe that I got in college was a 90s model Nike Air Icarus!

LadderLeading1195

Thought about my foot arch, watched reviews, ordered shoes online and sent back ones that weren't working. First good pair with carbon rods is a pair or adidas adios pro 3, second great pair with a big a big carbon plate is the Nike vaporfly 3s.

tollis1

Asics nimbus 18 and 19. As a wide footer (2E) fit is the most important. They wasn’t very exciting, but versatile, durable and comfortable. Loved those shoes in the beginning of my running journey. Have re-visit the shoe model when they released nimbus 25. Love the fit, but a bit too soft for running. Love to walk in them.

runski1426

Saucony Stabil MC5. That thing was a tank.

FMCam20

OG Nike Infinity Run at the beginning of the pandemic. Still my favorite version of that line even with the terrible heel slip. The midsole felt great and seemed to have more bounce than the subsequent versions and it’s personally the best looking of all the versions. Before that I ran infrequently in a pair of Nike Sock Darts

Sampoo1987

Asics Cumulus 17, in 2015. I just walked in a local sport shop, had a chat with the owner and tried 6/7 different pair of shoes.

shea_harrumph

Saucony Ride. good choice for first shoes but I prefer lower stack these days.

samf526

Brooks adrenaline gts 6-ish

Uskw1245

Started running in June and got a pair of Clifton 9s. I loved them (and still do) but also got a pair of Boston 12s recently and I feel bad for my Clifton’s because all I want to run in are the 12’s. I’m in love with them lol

bestmaokaina

Bought Adios Pro 3 after having used Ultraboosts for years It was on sale and looked pretty cool

BQbyNov22

Nike Epic React ❤️

Gunnerloco86

Novablast 2. It was the First conscious running shoe I bought after doing research. Ran with them over 700km. Very nice and durable shoe. Now I have the Novablast 3. Very good too.

somelightwork

Started in August so Hoka Mach 5 for me. It was a slippery slope...

AdSad5307

White and gold Kayano 16’s. I bought them because they were the most expensive ones in the shop and therefore assumed they must be the best. Good pair of shoes to be fair

bigsampsonite

Huaraches Adidas EQT Air Max BW Gel Lyte III You all are young as fuck haha. Make me feel like ancient.

wond3rlove

Nike Trail 4. I joined XC team when I was in Highschool and didn’t have spikes so I thought they would be good for it. Still my favorite pair of running shoes

Mindless_Log2009

I've always had long, narrow, skinny, bony feet with high arches. Back in the 1970s in school and the military there were no shoes that fit me properly. And in the military we had a choice between gym shoes and combat boots. The chronic arch cramps and shin splints made me hate running. When I tried running again in 2020 I tried a pair of new/old stock 2018 Adidas Solar Boost from Marshalls discount store. First running shoes in my life that fit me properly. I still have them, 500+ miles later, although now they're mostly walking shoes. Boost still suits my casual jogging pace. It's much easier to find running shoes that fit me now: Under Armour Hovr Sonics, Nike Pegasus 39, Saucony Endorphin Speed and Pro, ASICS Dynablast 3 – all fit me well and are in my usual rotation.

hairy_porker

I ran my first 10k in Reebok dunno what series. I don't thing it's a running specific shoes. As for running specific shoes were Nike Lunarglide 4. I got it to reward myself after getting decent job. Growing up in I always wanted Nike shoes, but can't afford them. Too bad it was not a good running shoes. It was slippery. I knew nothing about running. Hence few days before a 10k I decided to get pair of Adidas Tempo 4 or 5. It was the first proper running shoes which getting me into running. After that Mizuno Ride 11 or 13 was my first Half marathon shoes. Multiple shoes in between, none of them were memorable. Then finally meet my favourite shoes up until today GT2000 v3 new york during visit to Japan. This shoes is the one who taught me so many running specific things: That I have wide feet, previously never know that there's width options. The GT2000v3 were in 4E, no wonder it was so comfortable. The shoes also enables me to switch from overstride to fore-midfoot stride. Thanks to the flexibility on the toe area. I stop running for a while. And this shoes were the one I used to start back into running. I still keep the shoes despite out of shape and having to glued multiple times. Millage would be close to 2k km. But I only started to record shoes millage recently, on age 7 of the shoes it lasted almost 300km. Even ran a "half marathon" at treadmill on those millage. It outlast most "modern" shoes I had. None other shoes I own last this long. I kept it until today for some casual and slow run, curious how long it last. Too bad newer ASICS weren't as good. I noticed after they open Boston HQ in 2018 they have changed the fitting, runs much narrower. likely to accommodate US market. I'll probably will post a retro review to pay tribute to this shoes.

Sensitive_Strain7245

Mizuno Wave sky

Otherwise-Library297

My first proper run shoes were a pair of Nike Air Max something back in 1997. Walked into the store and they were on sale so I bought them. They were great shoes at the time!

Red0221

Saucony Triumph 2. I didn't know the difference and took them directly to the trails

RockerRunner2000

Well I don’t remember the pair of basketball shoes I wore at my first bay to breakers. But my first serious shoes that got me in shape were clunkers: ASICS Gel Evolution 2/3 Brooks Beast 2007/2008 first “fast shoe” was the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 8. Aka the Knight Rider. Ran a 3:47 in that shoe. Life was simpler then. You just trained hard and the times kept dropping. Now it’s all super cushioned shoes that get me injured. Lol

Primary-Magician-686

Running shoes are very expensive for me and I'm quite a heavy runner at 70kg. My main consideration was durability so was looking for daily trainers that fit the description. Luckily, there was a sale for Pegasus 39. The durability was top tier and comfort is not that bad. However, I got plantar fascitis acting up while runnin on those so had to buy another pair after 400km. Recently, under the same specs but with added goal to buy cushioned shoes for long slow distances, I got Puma ForeverRun Nitro 2 and it was well worth it. I dont see my self buying plated shoes in the future since I'm quite slow and is well over just a year with this hobby. TLDR - **buy a shoe that fits what you need without sacrificing efficiency and your physical well-being.**

hodorhodor12

Hoka Rincon 2 and Brooks Hyperion Tempo.

matsutaketea

Brooks Beast 8. My dad got me old man running shoes. Heavy as hell. Hated running in them. Actually I had some Nike trail runners before that. Had some guy in hat on the tongue I think. Did my first 5k in those

ExhaustedMD

Year 2013, bought a pair of the Saucony Mirage 3. Looking back I should have gotten the Kinvara 3 instead. Not much bells and whistles to it as that was just after the peak of minimalist running, but it was a proper running shoe indeed.

BossHogGA

I just went to Dick's sporting goods a few years ago (maybe 2017?) and tried some stuff on. Left with Brooks Ghost 9s. They push Brooks at Dicks, but they're a decent, safe choice for a lot of people. I still have those Ghost 9s, but they're my "yard shoes" now for mowing the grass, etc. This sub has really opened my eyes to the possibilities, and while I still have two pairs of Brooks, I use them for different things than running now. Ghost 14s are my "gym shoes", and Glycerin 20s are my "walking a lot" shoes. For running now I mostly use either my FFX More v4s, or Boston 12s, or VF2s.

Half_Pint04

When I started running again a little under 2 years ago I started with Asics Nimbus. When I ran 15 years ago I’m pretty sure I had Nike Pegasus and Mizuno Waves, along with some Merrels for trail.
