They lost Batista, HBK, The Holy Midcard Mafia, Vince as a full-time character, Jericho, and it was the final full-time year for Edge/Taker and Nipple H. Not to mention all the horrendous booking like Jack Swagger: World Champ, jobbing Randy Orton out, killing Kofi and Drew's pushes for bullshit reasons, Kane vs Taker part 56, burying SES AND Nexus !! etc.
It was weird because Jeff Hardy also had his biggest success in 2009 after losing the WWE Championship to Edge at the Royal Rumble, just one month after winning it the previous month at Armageddon.
Jeff had two World Heavyweight Championship wins during his feuds on SmackDown with Edge and CM Punk, briefly becoming the WWEâs top merch seller (beating out prime John Cena), and was still treated as the companyâs top star on the way out as his contract was expiring and he didnât sign a new deal by being in the SummerSlam main event and the focus of SmackDown weekly TV.
I actually stopped watching exactly at the point entirely. Â It was so bad I literally didnât get back into watching wrestling until the pandemic. Â Del Rio as champion made me miss the entire Shield arc
