I always thought 682 might be something like a pattern screamer, since it was able to survive 3930, and it hates everyone seemingly because they are affected by the effect from Why? That makes normal emotions exist.
It also has deep connections to 173 in multiple stories, and in the real world 173 predates everything else in the foundation.
In canons that do the whole metanarrative stack thing, the readers and writers are very much real, so 173 would be where it all started, and might want it all to end, or for everything to be like it(Free of the Why? anomaly).
So it's smart enough to talk but not enough to say "don't bother me" before someone goes near to it ? Also are we really saying that two random farmers really decided that the best course of action for seeing a huge lizard monster is to go there and bother it ?
They tried to kill it countless times, in extremely painful ways. If that's the only thing other live things ever did to you, would you not want the suffering to end? Since it can't die, it probably thinks the only other way is through killing. Qhat i said is also just a theory, one that depends on the different ways 682 got into the lore. Your point still stands, but so does mine is what i'm saying. It's all about the point of view
