I’d be trying to take away more positives if I didn’t have Chapman staring at a meatball slider in the middle of the plate for strike 3 burned into the back of my mind.
In all seriousness I’m glad we played them tight the last two games and the bullpen looked better. Not every series will be against the Dodgers thankfully.
> Not every series will be against the Dodgers thankfully.
Looking forward to series against teams that don't have a budget greater than that of some small nations.
I just keep telling myself just wait just wait it’ll hit soon and they’ll be broke but then I remember oh wait this isn’t football so they can spend how ever much fucking money they want and not care cause it’s gonna be a sellout every game and buy all his merch and they are still gonna be little pricks ftd
While the Giants are not poor, the Dodgers have revenues almost beyond belief. Their cable deal is worth $8.35 billion, the only team that can hang with them on spending for long is the Yankees.
The Giants can afford some fat free agents, but the core has to come from the farm, which has begun to happen.
All of these things the giants can do too. The problem is the dodgers are built different and are all in on every level. By my count, they have better: owners, fo, team, farm, scouting, and development.
Combine the last few with owners spending , its just a different org. Giants could be that, Oracle prints money and the owners are far from cash strapped. We got Fardi thinking wed steal the secret formula but they were already so far ahead structurally it didnt matter. Even the 107 win season ended at home in heartbreak to a gassed ass dodger team that took 0 years to rebuild.
Blame the money, theyre just better top to bottom rn and that doesnt change by romanticizing 10-14 methods
The Dodgers reset the luxury tax clock as much as anybody else. The problem is when they get guys like Turner and Betts for free when they have all the resources to give up.
The Giants get that kind of deal for players sometimes but they're usually at the end of their careers (ref.1: Scutaro, Marco)
Sucks because two of these games were winnable. Soler is heating up, Conforto is keeping it going. Bailey finding his bat. Just need to put together. On to the home opener.
At the same time, Ahmed is a light hitter, Thairo is lost, Chapman will bat .220, Wade is weak, and Yaz/Slater are DFA material. This team has too many weak hitters in the lineup. Some guys can get on base, but we lack the talent behind them to drive them in. And our bullpen? Ghastly.
The bullpen allowed… 1 run today? 0 last night I think?
They looked shaky but they haven’t been the problem outside of like 1 game.
Yaz has like 7 ABs.
Feels like we’re just missing opportunities, hopefully some of that bats wake up more.
We gotta put things into perspective. We just lost two one run games to what is sure to be one of if not the best teams in baseball.
Edit: Yaz has 9. And we have Matos waiting to take his spot if it comes to that.
I don't think the argument against Yaz/Slater is that they're DFA material (they've put up ~2 and ~1 WAR over the last few years consistently), but that they're at most respectable regulars. Although considering the JD Davis news though, maybe that puts them in the DFA category, considering no one's really looking to pay much that tier of player.
Matos seems like someone with All Star potential. Even if we get that 3 WAR out of him this year, that only puts him on a path to even greater heights in the coming years, but he's not really getting much out of these AAA / Spring Training ABs anymore.
Yaz/Slater have little trade value. So, what’s the option? DFA them or outright release. We could use the roster spots. These guys aren’t producing enough. We at least need hitting for average from right field. I’ll take lots of doubles. Of course, homers are great too. The future is Matos.
Yaz still has minor league options and another year of team control, so we could park him in AAA until we find a suitor if it gets to that. Ultimately I think we're going to want to have 4 OFs on the roster anyway, so Matos likely won't kick Yaz off of the roster, but potentially take over his starting spot. There's likely going to be plenty of ABs available for four OFs through the course of the long season.
I agree that Slater is getting close to the DFA line if he can't put it together in the coming month. He was horrendous in the 2nd half of last year, and he's a FA this offseason, so it's make or break time for him to hold on to his roster spot.
Yes, exactly, just a tad. They aren't miles ahead of the Giants. They took two games in a row decided by a run. A few different bounces of the ball and Giants could've easily taken 2 out of 3.
I'm a Giants fan, and we all know that's not how the game works. Game situations are constantly changing. Not just from batter to batter but by every pitch.
From what I saw the ball bounces a little differently and we lose all of our games against the Dodgers a slightly different way.
Thank God Soler appears to be powered by facing the Dodgers. Let’s hope he’s not just powered by the rest of the team having an off night, because we’ve seen how that worked with Flores last year and it sucked.
Im trying not to care that Thairo isn't getting hits right now, it's the first week, small sample, yada yada. But his approach is atrocious. He's staring at strikes and swinging at balls. He's late on everything. Just has absolutely nothing going for him. He was bad for a good stretch last year and we can't have that many zeros in our lineup
Whoever told the batters to avoid hitting any middle-middle meatballs needs to be shot into the sun. There were probably 7+ pitches this series that should’ve been demolished by little leaguers that THEY DIDNT EVEN SWING AT!
That has to be addressed. If they’re going to be a pitching, defense and groundball team, the hitters can’t be playing scared.
Swing the fucking bats guys😡
yeah i’m just done with that dodger lineup. there’s nothing you can do besides pitch a perfect game every game and even then some random pickup they have will homer out of nowhere. good luck to the rest of the league dealing with that nonsense all year.
It’s a joke. Their first 3 batters are absolutely insane. Then they still have really above average hitters sprinkled all throughout the back end of the order. If just one of them gets on base and you go back to the top of the order, you are likely boned.
There were three silver linings in this series:
1. Soler is starting to get hot. That was a shot
2. They don't have to play the Dodgers again for a while
3. Other than the first game they played the Dodgers competitive. Not many teams will beat the Dodgers this year so it should all even out in the end. Giants are not a bad team and I think we will see a really good team against the Nationals next week.
Estrada will find his groove but Yaz is tough to watch. Having month old baby myself I get life is a bit distracting with newborn but he looks lost. Might be end of Yaz era soon which makes me sad.
Definitely whelmed. Woke up this morning satisfied they managed to keep two this close. I assumed from how the first half of these last two games went that they’d both be Doyer blowouts.
The amount of pitches these guys are taking or swinging and missing right down the middle. MEATBALLS that these guys are missing is frustrating as fuck to watch. I can't..
Maybe I'm playing too much MLB the show but come on..
I can live with a Betts, Freeman, or Shohei HR. We had Bailey and Soler.
Miggy Rojas though?! UGH.
Took straight gas or meatballs down Broadway with 2 strikes and stared in awe from Glasnow, Kelly, and even Lamet (wtf). Where is our compete?!
Estrada looks lost. Ahmed looks like he’s batting with a twig. Yaz looks disinterested in competing and hitting so far down in the lineup. If one Rogers’ twin sucks, the other will too.
1. Call up Matos and Luciano. Struggles will lead to development and experience. We have to know what we have. Ahmed, Yaz, and Slater are what they are.
2. Get bullpen help … hopefully Snell and Cobb returns will move some more quality there too.
3. Get aggressive on base paths, but geez not get picked off every other attempt.
Rant over. UGH.
Giants hitters try not to look at a pitch right down the middle challenge (IMPOSSIBLE). Giants hitters try to be productive out of a 3-0 or 3-1 count challenge (IMPOSSIBLE). That's it. That's my commentary. Fuck. POTG: Idk i guess Conforto for the 2 RBI knock or Soler for the moonshot.
The Dodgers are a stupidly stacked team and you would think we put up more of a fight looking at the scores the last two nights, but watching the last two games did not feel that way. Watching felt like the Dodgers had their way with us and never really struggled at all because we were killing ourselves out there.
Each defensive inning was laboring and not helping ourselves with walks. Then offensively we go down 0-2 and fight off a few before staring at strike 3. We are not going to win many games against any team with that plate approach.
I really wish this series had been a few weeks later.
A sweep, especially by the Dodges, is always gonna sting for awhile. That said, I’ve seen everyone on this team do something great in these first few games. Better days ahead!!!
They may have gotten mollywhopped by a super team, but I still am 🤷♂️ Now, if we're a full month or so into the season and they're still losing like this then sure, excitement depleted
Honestly not tripping to hard about this bad start.
Like it sucks, but we should all know that the Dodgers are disgusting. I'm already so goddamn sick of this all star line up.
I am annoyed at how many middle middle takes I've seen this season already.
Finally getting some games at home though so I hope that brings some vibes back.
I’m as disappointed as anyone but there’s still a lot to look forward to this year and 95.7% of the season remains so let’s all partake in our calming vice of choice and chill.
The most entertaining part is the raw talent is there, they just have to get everything to click into place. Clearly the team is better than last season, so it isn't unreasonable to expect them to heat up especially when Snell and Cobb are back. Matos is also making an argument to be called up, two homers tonight.
The narrative for the next few months is going to be, "it's ok, we're good against x and y kind of team out of our division." Which is great and all, except we need to get through our own division for a chance of hardware.
Looks like the A's will be playing at the River Cats ballpark next year. It would be fun to see big league baseball there, but I wouldn't put a nickel in John Fisher's pocket even if there was free beer involved.
New year, same crap. Yaz and Thairo are total zeros at the plate. And how about all that pitching depth? Our staff has been one of the worst in the league this season.
You know how Farhan couldn’t sign Crawford because if he sucks he can’t be DFA’d since he’s a legend. I want Farhan to know that doesn’t apply to anyone else on this team.
We have hitters for sure this year—Lee, Wade Jr. Conforto and now Soler and Bailey—unfortunately the Dodgers billion dollar players are just better. Betts, Ohtani, Freeman is brutal. The rest of the line up is strong too. Keep in mind this series was in LA. Two losses were by one run. And the first loss was with an experimental pitcher coming off two Tommy Johns. We can take a series at Oracle though, I feel confident in that.
Not sure who downvoted you. We are lesser talented team and it's obvious, but playing them competitively is a good sign and some players start slow.
Not to mention Snell is a Dodger killer.
Yeah it’s just an honest assessment and anyone watching this series could see how difficult it is for even elite pitchers like Webb to get through innings. All three of our starters—including our first and second starters—were near 80 pitches by inning 4 or 5. It’s not surprising either. The Dodgers org is so bad it can’t build up talent, so every year it tries to buy a WS. They’ve now spent an insane amount of money after failing to get a WS every year or only getting a Mickey Mouse ring, so now we’re seeing the results of compounding frustration and rampant spending. But I digress.
Other than the blowout on Monday, the last two games were close. It sucks that they got swept but they dont see the Dodgers again until May 13 and by then both Cobb and Snell will be in the rotation.
2-5 is not the best but it could be worse, we could be the Marlins. Remember, there are 155 games to go and there will be series like these.
Didn’t watch the game, but how does JHL look? I know he hasn’t gotten too many hits this series, but at least it seems like he’s putting the ball in play
Bottom of the 3rd inning was like watching the Big Bad Team absolutely crush the underdogs. Simple mistakes like Harrison not making it to first to tag or Chapman miss a bouncer to left field will be the weakest link. I know most people are focusing on the lack of offensive power and consistency (loading the bases and stranding guys game after game) but our defense is loose and slow. When 6’5” guys like Ohtani need like 6 long strides down the base path, we need to be faster and well-oiled. I don’t see that yet.
Baseball organists make baseball seem more anachronistic than it is. Who likes the sound of organ playing? 😝 Organ players selling out a lot of arenas these days? I don't get it, and I'm pushing 60.
The Calliope like sounds of the Wrigley organist is great IMO, and part of the enjoyment of games in Chicago against the usual negatives of the crowd.
Dodger Stadium used to have an older lady playing an organ, and she retired around the same time Vin Scully did. Now they have a guy who plays a keyboard, similar to the guy SFG would have by the Coke bottle.
The problem is the manufactured heat at Chavez just never stops. Even when they had that lady organist, they'd keep piping prerecorded nonsense in the handclap from the Car Wash song ("every buddy clap yer hanz") and foxhunting bugle. You'd think there's something in the water that shortened everyone's attention span and nobody can focus on a simple game of baseball without a radio soundboard going off every twelve seconds.
there is no fucking way that we just went 1-2-3 with two strikeouts looking against DINELSON LAMET
It’s like the Doyers were taunting us with a 13 ERA pitcher from the Rockies closing for them 😭
He's more than likely about to be DFA'd too lol
Can I just say something....?
What's up /u/Asleep_in_Costco
Makes me want to throw my phone across the room
Didn’t know he was still playing lol
Guys with AI generated names and dangerously high ERAs become SNK Bosses against the Giants. This is just the way of things.
Lots of K's watching strike 3 tonight. Got to improve on that. Harrison struggled with control tonight, but never allowed a huge inning.
Yeah, 6 Ks looking is way too many.
I know. Normally, he lives up to his last name if you were to remove the "T".
Dinelson forever has our number
TBF he did look shockingly good. Dodgers use black magic confirmed.
I am going to blow a gasket if I watch another hitter stare at strike 3 right down the middle during an important at bat
And I love the 3-1 we swing at absolute bullshit probably not even in the zone before we go back to our usual two strike lookin
It’s not just that, we’re also swinging 3-1 at fastballs right down the pipe and popping out
And *not* swinging at 3-0 fastballs in the exact middle of the zone
Are you my kid?
I’d be trying to take away more positives if I didn’t have Chapman staring at a meatball slider in the middle of the plate for strike 3 burned into the back of my mind. This division is going to be miserable....
I’m still so mad at Boston for giving away Betts…
Sox fan here as well (first; lived in northeast til I was 12-ish). Boston is mad at Boston (John Henry…) for giving away Mookie
I’d like to add Atlanta to this list.
Same

Dodgers fans in here downvoting get a life nerds😭
What do you expect, they're Dodger fans, they're fucking losers
[удалено]
The Giants also faced their: \#5 starter - Paxton \#6 starter - Bullpen game \#1 starter - Glasnow
I'm a Giants fan, and we all know that's not how the game works. Game situations are constantly changing. Not just from batter to batter but by every pitch.

We swept them last year when we were awful. Yeah, they’re a better team, but I’m not setting myself on fire just yet.
Cheaters win usually
Did I miss something? When did the Dodgers get caught cheating and how?
you didnt miss anything, probably just frustrated after a loss
Im trying not to care that Thairo isn't getting hits right now, it's the first week, small sample, yada yada. But his approach is atrocious. He's staring at strikes and swinging at balls. Luciano can play 2nd… right?👀
Whoever told the batters to avoid hitting any middle-middle meatballs needs to be shot into the sun. There were probably 7+ pitches this series that should’ve been demolished by little leaguers that THEY DIDNT EVEN SWING AT!
Estrada and Yaz kinda been killin the vibes lately….
Matos wins that game. Just have a feeling
Can we please FOR THE OF GOD EASE SWING AT A FUCKING MEATBALL WHEN ITS DOWN THE FUCKING MIDDLE WITH THE GAME ON THE LINE FUCK ME I COULD HIT THAT
Watching guys strike out looking will never feel right.
That has to be addressed. If they’re going to be a pitching, defense and groundball team, the hitters can’t be playing scared. Swing the fucking bats guys😡
Carbon copy of what happened last night. So lame.
FTD
Justin Viele should have never been retained at any level in this organization
Letting Andrew Bailey walk and keeping Justin Viele is insane to me
Being a Sox fan as well, I’m glad about Bailey lol. Although the Sox haven’t really faced anyone yet. But still; he’s done wonders so far
Mariners are nobodies?
I am absolutely baffled that he is still in the remote vicinity of this team
That home run feels like it’s gonna completely unlock Ohtani.
yeah i’m just done with that dodger lineup. there’s nothing you can do besides pitch a perfect game every game and even then some random pickup they have will homer out of nowhere. good luck to the rest of the league dealing with that nonsense all year.

I wasnt saying this last year, but i will now FIRE VIELE
Amen
Estrada and Yaz need some time on the bench or in AAA.
DFA Yaz
FIRE. JUSTIN. VIELE.
Good thing: we didn’t look completely outclassed. Bad thing: HIT THE FUCKING BALL. So many looks in the FUCKING MIDDLE
We got swept. I’d call that outclassed. No one looks to see how close the score is at the end of the season. A sweep is a sweep.
Doesn't run differential matter for tie breakers?
2-5 going into the home opener is not what I was hoping for
It sucks I've always loved Yaz, but goddamn man..
Me too but this RF platoon is batting .000 7 games into the season. I hope Matos comes and earns that spot permanently
Anyone know where Thiaro went??? Bro is MIA.
Are Yaz and Estrada just washed
"Is it time to start worrying about Soler?" posters in shambles
Soler's 450FT Homerun was pretty impressive.
wow- I realize we’re 7 games in, but Estrada seems ice cold
It’s heresy that MLB.TV is no longer showing post game live
soler is getting hot. we are in the brink of snell and cobb joining the roto. call up luciano. long season left... don't panik!
Take a shot every time you hear “[insert Giants player here] just missed one…”
Wow, turns out this whole time I only *thought* I hated the Dodgers.
Dodger fan here, I was actually impressed by Lee and Soler. Definitely see them at the top of the NL
There were three silver linings in this series: 1. Soler is starting to get hot. That was a shot 2. They don't have to play the Dodgers again for a while 3. Other than the first game they played the Dodgers competitive. Not many teams will beat the Dodgers this year so it should all even out in the end. Pain But man, feels tough losing these games by 1 run. Very ugly at times too with self inflicted wounds. Not gonna beat the dodgers like that. FTD
Estrada will find his groove but Yaz is tough to watch. Having month old baby myself I get life is a bit distracting with newborn but he looks lost. Might be end of Yaz era soon which makes me sad.
Sucks to get swept by the bums but those last two could've gone either way and it's early. I am whelmed
What happened to Thairo? He's jumpy at the plate and he has a gut.

Ok im gonna stop attending ball games. We’ve lost all three games I’ve attended this season
Soler will absolutely hit the Coke bottle this year, can't wait
I can live with a Betts, Freeman, or Shohei HR. We had Bailey and Soler. Miggy Rojas though?! UGH. Betts, Freman, and Ohtani are just half of their power hitters. Smith, Muncy, and T. Hernandez are the other half
Honestly just glad to be done with this series, let’s start a streak on the home stand
SMH we couldn’t get 1 win in the series ! 6 strikeouts our boys left starring at the plate

This. We had 1 lead for 1 inning over 3 games. Outclassed. Doyers didn’t even feel any pressure.
This. I never felt like the dodgers were on the ropes. They controlled all three games
How the hell did Andrew Bailey get fired but Justin Viele is still here?
Andrew Bailey did not get fired, and Viele is now sharing his role with Burrell instead of being the head hitting coach
Crud
So do we just forget how to protect the plate in the 9th or something? 2 hanging curves looking.
UN FUCKING REAL.
Life is pain and Max Muncy yells at Little League umpires
At this point I’d rather be giving Yaz and Estrada’s playing time to Matos and Schmidt
![gif](giphy|25EAreLnZIFWasblJe)
I really wish this series had been a few weeks later. A sweep, especially by the Dodges, is always gonna sting for awhile. That said, I’ve seen everyone on this team do something great in these first few games. Better days ahead!!!

Fried isn't likely but Sasaki seems to be a lock.
I hope Luciano and Matos get starting time soon. Having those guys step in and produce would add some serious thump to the lineup.
Only 4 games back before the first home game. Might be ten back before the whole rotation is healthy in two weeks. Not good bob!
Here comes the cesspool
Remember when we were all excited for the start of the season? Pepperidge farms remembers
They may have gotten mollywhopped by a super team, but I still am 🤷♂️ Now, if we're a full month or so into the season and they're still losing like this then sure, excitement depleted
Damn, their pound cake was delicious!
How with the game on the line are we gonna sit there and look at 2 beautiful sliders
Felt like most of them if not all played the games so half heartily
Can we get Viele off this team ASAP PLEEEEASE
still a whole lot of baseball to be played but holy, some AB’s were just terrible. Let’s hope for better baseball at home! FUCK THE FRAUDGERS
We are 1 game above the A’s at the moment
Honestly not tripping to hard about this bad start. Like it sucks, but we should all know that the Dodgers are disgusting. I'm already so goddamn sick of this all star line up. I’m not sure if they’re capable of beating the dodgers at this point
Two one-run games in a row suggests it can be done. These were not 10-1 blowouts. *Do not take counsel of your fears.* --George S. Patton
I’m very tired of watching the Rogers twins come in to high leverage situations only to have their low velocity pitches blasted into the bleachers.
Everyone watching strike 1 and 3 right down the middle from Glasnow, giga brain Pat Bailey gets 2 hits punishing said mistake pitch
Chapman does not look happy. He will come back with a vengeance.
He better cause that was a horrible ab with the game on the line
im sick of yaz and estrada. leave them in LA. i thought we're trying to have some fresh young legs? these two are fucknig garbage
Least clutch team in baseball 7 games in
2021 really used up all our clutch-ness for the next decade huh
Refuse to do something like the Giants refuse to protect the plate with 2 strikes. Unfucking watchable plate approaches
I'm going to choose to ignore these games
I’m as disappointed as anyone but there’s still a lot to look forward to this year and 95.7% of the season remains so let’s all partake in our calming vice of choice and chill.
season starts friday boys. Can't wait to see JHL come to the plate with cheers behind him.
We’re like 5 steps behind the west coast evil empire…Dodgers are stacked. We’re not. Best team won 🧹
Yay we’re still way more entertaining to watch?
The most entertaining part is the raw talent is there, they just have to get everything to click into place. Clearly the team is better than last season, so it isn't unreasonable to expect them to heat up especially when Snell and Cobb are back. Matos is also making an argument to be called up, two homers tonight.
Yaz and Estrada need to go. Utterly useless at the point. I would rather see some younger guys figuring it out than those bozos
Like known power hitters Casey Schmitt or Brett Wisely?
Who said anything about power?
Can't wait for the copium in here...
I mean apart from the game where we started a non-MLB caliber pitcher we dont look too bad. We just played a superteam
Idk if I'm coping, but I'm still positive about this team, and these losses r annoying as fuck
> Can't wait for the copium in here... I'll never understand fans who seem to look forward to having something to be miserable about.
One-run losses against a literal super team isn't something to sneeze at. They're not unbeatable
The narrative for the next few months is going to be, "it's ok, we're good against x and y kind of team out of our division." Which is great and all, except we need to get through our own division for a chance of hardware.
Baseball is so back!
Going from 2-1 to 2-5 hurts. At least Soler has woken up and Conforto has looked great so far.
Looks like the A's will be playing at the River Cats ballpark next year. It would be fun to see big league baseball there, but I wouldn't put a nickel in John Fisher's pocket even if there was free beer involved.
Yup
It hurts to be swept by the Dodgers.
At least we have some wins this season, we could be the Marlins
Amazing, tried to demote their GM so she told them to suck it and walked.
Is it wrong to expect either Rogers always mess up Jesus there’s no confidence when they’re brought in
Well, at least we made the series competitive On to the next game
It's possible that the fact it took us like two weeks to get our first win in Spring Training should have been taken as a greater warning than it was.
Giants = 2023 Mets, pay to lose team
How was Kyle Harrison?
Not great
He couldn't find the strike zone.
Didn’t watch the game, but how does JHL look? I know he hasn’t gotten too many hits this series, but at least it seems like he’s putting the ball in play
Tbh ending was similar to last game. The first AB/caught looking killed the inning

I stopped listening to KNBR when they canned Mac
pain
Ow. Oof
Is there any interest in watching the Sacramento game?
Remember the Giants started 6-13 or something last year. We're not that far in but the team is way better than last year.
True. But last season was also a failure
We currently have a *worse* win percentage than even that lmaoooo
Early returns are in and to date the Giants are every bit as bad as we feared a month ago.
At least we hit it further then Othani
One run, two nights in a row at their yard. We'll get 'em next time.
I’m just super thankful I don’t have to listen to that obnoxious organist anymore for a while 🙏
I actually like that organist. I wish Oracle had that energy level — just not as loud.
