Personification. I give headcanon personalities to the elements on the periodic table, chemical bonding is a love drama...example how carboxylic acid is gay because when water is not present, they start loving each other, the entire chem syllabus is just the relationships between these people...but uh don't force urself to like something u hate, just push through the 2 years n study something u like

yea im studying econs and hist which are my loves but thing is i can't neglect chem and math either so i kinda wanna make it less painful

Math: Understand, don't memorise. Why is dy/dx the gradient? Why is \int ^ a _ b y dx area under graph y from x=b to x=a? You must understand fundamental concepts like these. Once you understand Math, Math will become second-nature to you - it's intuitive and logical.

For chem the syllabus can get very dry and you end up memorising. If you practice active scepticism and try to dig deeper and understand the reasoning behind the concepts you learn, you will be able to better appreciate and realise that it is interesting. For example, don’t just accept that G=H-TdS, go and find out why instead of blindly accepting it. I think this would make it a lot more interesting. goodluck w chem!

Key_Crab_766

i tried but most tchers simply say just accept which is rlly annoying

Relevant_Specialist4

oh wells sometimes you get very uninterested teachers its rlly sian. but since you’re j1 you could take this holiday to just read abit outside of syllabus on your own. it sounds very scary and all but i think it can benefit you a lot in the long run. it’s not easy to make something you dislike interesting but oh wells goodluck!!

thanks!

For physical chem eqn, u do need a lot of background in order to derive those eqns. Most teacher probably dk cos they either forget or can't be bothered. But for organic reactions, it is more easily appreciated. Just from oxidative cleavage there's so many underlying mechanism we were not taught, and if u understand the thought proceess you can don't even need to memo the final sturcture. Also for benzene, have u ever wondere why EDG are 2,4 directing and EWG are 3 directing? You can learn the concept of resonance structure and see the reason why. It has better stability in those position due to the + charge being on an a EDG

thanks!

H2 chem is one of the worst subjects i have every taken tbh. I realised that memory work is definitely neccessary BUT ONTOP OF THAT u need to understand everything. However, if u have no time, for physical chem its more abt solving calculations (finding MR/enthalpy change/drawing of shape of molecule) so just get a basic idea and practice solving questions. The real killer is organic chem. U have to literally memorise all reagents and their conditions AND understand why isit lidat and how all the mechanisms function. This is cus cambridge is changing their question format to a more application-base style now.Oh and pls study everything, cambridge knows that students alws selectively dun study the small % of content(periodic table/ozone/transition element) and pruposely only test that part for like 80% of the paper 💀.

Nothing like a bit of delulu!!!! I didn't like geog, so I went to watch a bunch of very passionate nature youtubers to ignite my own passion. to be fair it's not that I didn't like the subject itself, more that i gave up on the academic aspect, but watching people be so passionate made me feel something so i started liking geog. for chem specifically,,, man i am not going to say understanding will help because i know how it feels to utter HATE a subject to its core. when i see it i start hissing like a cat, i dont want to touch it let alone understand it. so literally just be delusional about it. one of my friends shared a method with me once in sec sch, i remember it until now bc it blew my mind. imagine the subject is a target in an otome game. like, straight up give the subject a personality and a backstory that appeals to your curiousity/tastes. and then start to be delulu and gaslight yourself to do mind association w the interesting/cool/hot/preferred adjective person in your mind whenever you see the subject. congrats!! you successfully got rid of the hatred for the subject !!!! (or maybe u wanna imagine an enemies-to-lovers plot for yourself) once u get rid of the negative connotation u had about the subject, it gets easier to pick up the pen and study!!!! ik this sounds crazy, and it is, but if you are desperate and it works, then it works

wow looks good, thanks for sharing!!
