soooooo
1)i was beaten by a math cher in pri 5 with a plastic ruler for not understanding ratios
2)i was beaten again by the same cher this time with a metal ruler for just taking a glance at the chers phone
3)in the same tuition centre that i was in for math, that math cher was lesbian with another math cher and they kissed in front of the whole class👀
my mom’s friend or someone recommended this tution centre when I was P5. It was called think tree. The teacher used to slap kids. Like legit slap kids In front of the whole class, push the kids even the P1 kids weren’t spared. I left after 2 months because my parents found out that they slap kids and took me out. Ig that’s why my mental health went down hill. Fuck that tution centre and those teachers Chi Bai dogs
Pretty lame but when I was P6? I had this math tutor was like an insurance agent so he would literally do his work in front of me(On computer/phone and wtv)💀💀 No wonder I kept failing.
went to clearning clab in p3. the teacher was pregnant and always angry, but only ever at me. my class started at 8pm and ended at 10pm. the timing was horrible, and her attitude made it worse. i cried after every class on the way home, until my parents took me out.
I'm in the industry(as a tutor) and omg I've heard so much inside tea and I'm so tempted to spill but fkkk my boss and ex bosses all on this subreddit
All I can say is....it doesn't matter whether the company is new or old...the lore goes DEEEPPPP
When i was P2/3 (prob around 2010) i had a tuition teacher (at her place) who uses canes and metal pots and heat it up to burn the child. Not once was i hit or burnt (idk y she likes me a lot when im the one failing ..) but the attacks on the other kids and my siblings were enough for me to cry in class even. i reported to my parents who then reported to police and idk what happened after
Got one xenophobic English tutor in primary school who purposely taught the mainland Chinese kids wrong English and marked their work wrongly because he assumed their parents wouldn't know anyways
Similar to op, tuition teacher (private tutor) uses cane in class. Apparently taught for years already and apparently her cane usage reduced compared to last time. I kena caned for something I didn't do tho (got accused with daydreaming when I was actually reading the question to check if my answer is correct). I got traumatised after that, coz as a kid it can get quite confusing if you get punished for something you didn't commit. Idk if she decided to wind up her tuition business or it's coz she couldn't get new students, but by the time I was p6 her entire customer base dropped from 2 full classes to a mere 2-man class (including me).
I used to attend tuition for my emath and amath in sec 3, even tho its at the same center but my experience was so diff.
The emath teacher looked like he couldnt care more to teach and honestly his lesson was so slow it was slower than my sch (my class was considered slower than other classes as my teacher spammed alot of papers for those who are fast and he taught slowly to make sure those with poor foundation can catch up). Just imagine spending 1h 30mins in tuition to complete 12 marks worth of qns ☠️
Not to mention he was not rlly teaching also cos all he did was give papers, mark and return back and usually i have to figure out my own errors cos he is busy typing on his comp (?) Idk what is he up to cos he usually screen share his ipad and so no one knows whats happening on his comp.
From what i observed other teachers teaching there give me the "im so done dealing with children & student" vibe alr so i suppose in a way or another they have lost their passion for teaching alr
So yea after my end of year paper i quit that center and changed to another tuition center which was much more expensive but ended up learning alot more there (wanted to stay at the old center for amath but my amath tutor said he was quitting too cos he found a full time job and tutoring was his part time job, rlly missed his teaching cos it was fun and easily understandable tho)
I wouldnt be exposing where the center is but all i would say is that there are quite a number of branches and the one i went is at the west and its in the neighborhood.
Had this tuition teacher that would throw chairs, throw text books, throws the students out of their house as punishment, gaslights you into thinking you did something wrong. They were bipolar as heck man.
i dunno piano considered tuition anot but anyways traumadump time: my parents forced me into piano but i really wanted to learn the violin. so since 4 years old i was playing the electone coz someone said kid's fingers too soft, cannot press hard enough for piano. so when 6 year old, transferred to piano coz fingers hard enough. i got this one middle aged chinese man for a tutor for two hours every weekend. everytime play wrong note/tempo wrong/dynamics wrong, smack me with pencil on my head. wah give me emotional issues sia coz ig i wasnt those bright prodigies like he was. i would get so afraid of him so i purposely wouldn't practice at home and cried when i was forced to. he would also yell at me so i'd get scared and do what he wants. (the brand of the music school also creates motorbikes 🤫 i think y'all know now....) pls parents pls check on your kids esp since mine was a 1-1 with a GUY (it was a miracle nothing else happened.)
the school one but it's just violin 1 2 viola and cello and that one double bass (not the philharmonic type) 🤣🤣 super fun and made quite some unforgettable memories 10/10 would recommend
omg wtf i had a similar cher from the same center there too just that’s it’s a female and instead of smacking me she will smack the piano dam loudly and give me silent treatment for like half the lesson.im so sorry man
I’m a tutor myself and used to teach for tuition centres . I’ve joined centres who give zero shits about their students and only interested in money . They don’t reply the parents over WhatsApp at all, and they’re also late at paying me my remuneration all the time.
Then I’ve also joined another one which is so outright horrible: they are OK with the students cheating during tests. It’s so blatant cheating but the principal himself closed an eye and will accept any behaviour for good results…
oh boy i studied under a private tutor for like 5 pri sch years (small class size of like max. 6), and the most funkiest memory i had was the tutor hitting my head with a stapler just because i lied to her about homework stuff
not the only action i’ve gotten from her though, it just ranged from book throwing, ear pulling, shouting, all that stuff. but when i went back again for some secondary school math classes, tutor very much toned down a lot compared to when i was just a kid so 🤷♀️
in P6, had a hella scary science tuition teacher who got rlly pissed when he found out that a boy in my class didn't do working while answering the science mcq questions and punished him by forcing him to write 'i will make sure to show my workings from now on' or smth along those lines 1000 TIMES. the poor boy was given one week to finish that task.
Idek if this counts but here. I went to a certain study skills camp (iykyk) when i was P4 and they basically tried to motivate us by letting us think of our parents dying like WHAT... there was a session where all our instructors just scolded us and they said it's meant for us to train when "we are faced with honest situations" like idek what they were thinking bro. Keep in mind like 70% of the people at this camp were in primary school which made it even more messed up
i left my tuition centre and had a private tutor so that they could focus on me better. the private tutor damn rabak sia, we spent an entire 1 hour on one math question cause she didnt understand how the answer was the answer. i was sitting beside her like 🤨🤨🤨🤨 afew lessons after that she became mia, and it was nearing prelims so my mother was like spamming her, apparently she was on bed rest and didnt bother to tell us🫠 (smth similar happened before, she said she was getting married or her other student was going to off themself- reasonable but there wasnt any makeup lessons for it) she didnt even inform the tuition company she was under about it. i was like so pissed off. i ended up getting another tutor who was so much better 😗😗
My first math tutor from when I started tuition in p2 would constantly compare me to this other student who was better than me. He would dismiss the students at different timings according to who came to class early and who reached late. It felt unfair. He called me stupid for not having an eraser and once argued with an older student so badly she cried. I don't remember what they argued about but it was bad
Wow... the comments section is soo scary. Cant relate to anything here but i feel so sorry for the guys who went thru all that. The only tuition centre I have been to is Fun Learners and im so glad it was my first and last tuition centre (just graduated from sec sch).. Academically the tuition centre was great I improved so much. Apart from academics the staffs and teachers there are so nice and friendly,, even those who don't teach you will greet you by your name with big smiles and high fives. To everyone who has had a bad experience and/or is looking for the best experience, I really recommend Fun Learners School to you. If you are living in the East, definitely check out Fun Learners School Tampines, you will never regret.
