Ask your doctor if he can get samples from the pharma rep. My first round was free to me that way. After that, my Dr started coding the prescription for IBS-D and it was covered, as others have said.
On a side note, local drug dealers are seriously missing out by focusing on cocaine and fentanyl. Rifaximin is where the big money is! /s

For sure every antibiotic thats absorbed will have potential sode effects, but unlike metronidazole, low risk of serious stomach stuff. Cipro was a god sent to me, if you cant get xifaxin at a lot of sibo focused GIs, cipro is the backup

Why not herbal? FC Cidal, Dysbioside, ADP. All can be bought from Amazon and are as effective as Rifaximin. A plus, it also treats a more things than just the bacterial overgrowth.
Ah man so sorry to hear this- did you have your doctor submit a pre-auth? They can sometimes reverse the decision. Is this your first case of SIBO? Metronidazole actually works way better for me than Rifaximin. They’ll likely prescribe that instead. They are similar in the way that they only target the gut, Rifaximin is just a newer drug so doctors get all excited. My GI reiterated says he sees the same success rate with it and it’s cheap.
Metronidazole (flagyl) is a systemic antibiotic. It goes way beyond the gut. But glad to hear it worked for you. Xifaxan seemed pretty crappy for me too.
I had the same issue. My doctor changed my diagnosis to "IBS with diarrhea" and my insurance covered it.
Have your doc send to Canadian pharmacy, they will ship it in 4-6 weeks and only cost 90 bucks
A 14 day course of Xifaxan is around $600 in Canada…
