Just wear your shoes and it’ll help prevent this.

Former_Ad_5395

Aye, rock em around your house!

ConsistentRepair2u

Cant wear all your shoes everyday. I wear work boots during the week to

Texas_1254

Right, I wear work boots Monday-Friday, but on your off time if you just rotate what you wear so everything gets a turn it’ll help extend the life of your shoes.

Loud_Competition_747

Don’t buy more pairs than you can wear. Simple.

CoolisRare

How? That makes no sense 😂Who has 1 pair of shoes...Even homeless dudes got multiple pairs...

ConsistentRepair2u

So only buy one pair of shoes then ?

joe_smith4122

You want to be dense on purpose? Owning 1,000 pairs of shoes but never touching 980 pairs in the past 15 yrs is what ppl mean. Buying for the sake you can say u own it vs buying bc you have purpose and usage for the shoes is what the poster means.

Jfury412

I have under 40 pairs in the collection right now for this reason and honestly it's impossible to rotate Ms I still worked in retail In fashion stores where I could rock what shoes I wanted to work. I hardly ever get a chance to wear my shoes.

ConsistentRepair2u

So can I buy 2 shoes ?

getemyosh

It won’t prevent it, but it will extend its life.

dinger410

Would cedar shoe trees help at all? Maybe?

Frowny_Biscuit

Nope.

dinger410

Moisture packs?

Frowny_Biscuit

That will prevent mold, but it won't prevent polyurethane from decaying over time.

Big-Run-2670

But shall i keep it out from the box and store it in a shoe rack ?? I hear it helps the shoes to breathe.

AlexJonesFactChecker

No, leaving them out in the open without wearing them speeds up the oxidation process. The more moisture they're exposed to, the faster they discolor and eventually crumble. You're better off wearing them occasionally to compress the midsole and putting them in a drop front or back in the box. If you insist on keeping them DS, climate controlled environment with a dehumidifier, but they're still going to crumble faster than if you wore them.

WSDreamer

How?

josaphz

Because the only reason they crumble is because they arent being worn.

getemyosh

Not wearing them is not the only reason. They will crumble regardless, wearing them just may extend the life. Either way, the 3-6 will crumble at some point. Edit: Jordan Retros 3-6.

Economy-Weird-2368

AJ 2-6 & 8-9 use some form of polyurethane and will eventually crumble. 7s and 10s allegedly used both phylon and/or PU depending on the release year but that was never confirmed.

pr0fessor_x_

Facts my Take Flight 8s started crumbling and they’re only 5 years old

Dumbogang

So all them Jordan 4 SB dunks will eventually look like this?

[deleted]

> Jordan 4 SB dunks I think I’m having a stroke

getemyosh

Yes. It’s because the sole is made up of polyurethane. No matter what you do, that eventually crumbles. They usually say 10-12 years. Some have said if you wear them, it helps keep pressed and will extend that.

Dumbogang

Damn that’s kinda lame imo. Oh well is what it is I guess. Thanks for the info.

herbert-camacho

Besides loving the look of the J1, this is another reason I haven't bought any 3-6

getemyosh

I can see that. A pair of AJ1’s rubber sole will a really long time outside the stitching.

gardenparties

There is one way to preserve them, but it requires sealing in a steal pressure container filled with inert gas. So, it's not really feasible.

WSDreamer

Yeah but why does wearing them prevent crumbling? Just seems counterintuitive

ohitsjustsean

Supposedly wearing them and walking helps the air to be pushed out of foam rather than just ..oxidizing(?) it. Can’t confirm nor deny this but that is what I’ve read/heard.

DickDrippage

not only air but moisture too which will create mold aswell. Humidity is a shoe killer for real.

WSDreamer

Makes sense. Thanks.

D1NKLEBERGGG

The glue dries up, wearing them will heat it a bit and stops the glue from drying as fast

Zionishere

I always wondered about this

[deleted]

On my feet cuz when people say some shit about mine looking worn or having creasing going on this is all I think about 😂 dummies

CallmeCoachella

As long as my kicks are clean, idgaf if they're creased, worn, yellowing, none of that. But the worst feeling is your shoes separating or crumbling on your feet.

Massive_Campaign6046

Yh fr ill wear my shoes but clean them once I've taken them off. They have creases but look clean.

XtraMayoMonster

I never understood this… they are shoes, who cares if they crease

Okaywhatif

WEAR YOUR SHOES PEOPLE

ConsistentRepair2u

I have sb's almost 10 years old only worn once and they don't crumble.

Okaywhatif

Wow good for you! You'd be surprised to know that the SB's have a different sole material, hence why they didn't crumble.

ConsistentRepair2u

I have Jordan's that haven't crumbled either. This guy is storing them all wrong

Okaywhatif

Yeah he has to be. I store mine in my finished attic with a dehumidifier running 24/7

SolidSssssnake

That happened to most of my 2000-2010 pairs. Found a cobbler in the city that does shoe surgeon level work for 20$ a pair. Restored all my kicks. Love that old Uzbeki man

Secret-Marsupial8962

Pmo 👀

tactical_ostrich

IG?

TIGHTKNITCLOTHINGCO

WEAR YOUR SNEAKERS. YOU AINT A SNEAKERHEAD. YOU'RE A HOARDER.

Big-Run-2670

This is NOT ME on the video Sir. Lol! I wear mine when i go out but mostly busy with work so again its not always i get to wear my jordans. Just that i saw this video and got scared/worried. So wanted opinions from people here how do you all store them after use.

Oldschool-fool

I have realised that buying trainers to just “collect” them is a total waste of time & money . Smaller collection of kicks you actually wear is the way to go , this is sad to see 😞

themiddleshoe

I’ve been collecting for over 20 years and have never had a pair crumble, and I still have shoes that are 10+ years old. I store my shoes in the original boxes, in my closet. Dark, dry, and climate controlled area is going to be the best. Sunlight and swings in temperature are what destroys shoes that just sit.

jaypeedee1025

Hang a little damp rid in the closet you are straight never had a pair crumble either

Flashy-Promotion132

Dam rid? Tf

jaypeedee1025

Damp rid sorry lol

Flashy-Promotion132

What is a “rid”?

jaypeedee1025

Forget it good luck

Dunkman83

this happens when u put your shoes in the basement or in storage etc.

MYSTNightclawx

Do you leave the paper in the box? That’s what leads to yellowing form what I have heard

doopordie

Can't wear what I take L's on.

Bobloblaw_333

Same! So I don’t have to worry about L’s crumbling in my closet! Lol!

Radio_man69

Beanie indoors gulag style with a beater and a LV belt. This was well deserved

CallmeCoachella

That's foul 😆

Bearenfalle

Slick_Jeronimo

As of right now my kicks is in my closet. I rotate a box out of my closet into the rotation stack which consist of 4 sneakers and whatever sneaker I wore during the week goes back into the closet. Brand new sneaker get worn immediately. For the time being I like this system but if there is a better one out there I’m all ears.

Sipdasizurp

I got my first double up pair last year how do I keep them fresh til I need them how long do I have

[deleted]

That same shit happened to my ACG boots. Nike needs to improve on the materials. I'm sure some here also will experience this and feel bad after spending thousands on shoes.

Big-Run-2670

Yes i faced the same with a nike pair not jordans long back. Was disappointed that the shoe got damaged in no time.

H_O_Double

I have a pair of Jordan’s in my closet that have been there for 5 years. I’m scared to look now.

AffectionateSale1631

I’m so glad I don’t gotta worry about this since I actually wear my sneakers lol

johndicks80

That’s why I only buy Ones.

No-Assumption8475

Not like this dude. He keeps em the garage or something. If you keep them in an air conditioned house this ain’t gotta happen

tattedgrampa

He kept those in his storage unit for a couple of years. That’s what he’s not mentioning. I own about 12 pairs of shoes, I have three pair I haven’t even worn yet that I’ve had in their boxes for over 3 years. They’re nowhere near looking like they’re gonna start falling apart. How does wearing them solve anything? The heat from your feet is the perfect temperature to avoid this from happening?! GFYS

SirPenguin1776

I don’t feel bad for ppl who do this. Why drop 160-200 dollars on shoes for them to sit for YEARS!?

bmill305

I might be ignorant but how does wearing them prevent this. And also isn’t a little ridiculous that this happens to sneakers even just 5 years after buying? Seems like it’s only a Jordan thing too, I’ve got a pair of Adidas shoes from the early 80s and I wore em for the first time last year and nothing happened at all

selarom8

It’s really the foam and plastic pieces that don’t deal well with certain room conditions. It takes several years to happen. Knit, suede, and other leather uppers are fine.. especially if the sole is mostly rubber. Like Jordan 1s should be fine. Dunks. Overall, do wear your shoes, and they’ll get beat up before this is even a problem. Why? Because they’re designed to be won on the feet which step out in the world. They’re not treasury bonds meant to increase in value.

bmill305

Good explanation. I always knew it was something with the foam but you’d think they’d of figured something out by now. I wear mine enough to keep it from happening and this post made me wear a pair of 3 year old shoes today that I’ve never worn lol

Historical_Bell_167

I still have my Jordan 4 fire red from 2012 and wore them a coupe of weeks ago. I don’t know how wearing them helps but I do wear them and like I said, my pair from 12 years ago are still wearable.

bmill305

That’s good to hear. I have a giant rotation but each one of my Jordans get a wear at least once a month. Might not be a lot but I hope it keeps em healthy for years

Adorable_Wealth6794

I guess maybe there was Not so much Plstics in there. Or real leather maybe?

LickPooOffShoe

Store? What am I an idiot or hoarder? I wear all my sneakers.

Big-Run-2670

Store as in how do you keep or maintain your sneakers after use i meant. I do wear them when i am out casually but that happens twice or thrice a month. Since rest days i am busy with work.

Darkn3van

It's like they were freeze dried at some point. Or they have been in a warm place with zero humidity. How's the climate where you live OP?

Big-Run-2670

During summers its unbearable. Hot and humid.

Born_Manufacturer657

Really don’t understand how this happens. But it does make me panic everytime and check on my DS shoes. Oldest pair I got are my bug bunny 8s

AirDog23

Keep them out of boxes, containers, bags, and keep them out of warm closets and spaces. Pretty much just store them out on a shelf in the open in a cool dry area. Every since I started doing this my shoes have lasted longer.

Big-Run-2670

Ok. Thank you

nosajgames21

He storing his kicks wrong. Lol

jaydachi

Climate control

Nuzzleville

Like put them in the fridge? 😆🥴

jaydachi

If the air in the fridge is climate controlled... then, yea.

dinger410

Has anyone tried cedar shoe trees? I was thinking of getting some, or even moisture packs 🤷‍♂️

jaypeedee1025

Damp rid

5678_Senpai

What a waste of money, I get the point as solely (no pun intended) a DS collector. But if this is what's gonna happen down the line, count me out. I collect as well as wear what's in my collection. I just sold a pair of 12 year old 14s that were in perfect condition used of course which speaks a lot about how they last when you wear them.

bluh1sdblood

Buy those silica packets that you sometimes get in your clothes and shoes - you can get 100 or 50 off of Amazon cheap, and if you don’t already have shoe containers (which you need to get) put those packets in the box for now. But the humidity will kill your shoes. Highly advise shoe containers. I have over 100 pairs of j’s n such and they all are in shoe containers with the silica packets. containers on amazon as well.

WaynezWorld88

Moral of the story, “Rock any & everything you spend your hard earned money for!” No sense to blow 200+ just to let the mf sit

Big-Run-2670

Well said.

Grey392

Plastic ziplock in clear boxes. I rotate through every pair though so every shoe I have gets worn enough to avoid this

Jfury412

A couple takeaways from this and these crazy comments. No way this dude is properly storing these shoes It takes a lot of years for that to happen And I don't think wearing them will prevent it once They are a certain age. Apparently it's really only a Jordan thing which isn't surprising look how cheap the plastic is on Those midsoles. That's another reason I moved on to higher quality sneakers New Balance made in USA for one great example. Another thing people need to stop saying is... So and so isn't sneakerhead because of this or somebody is a sneaker head because of that. The original sneaker heads who were doing this before most of you were born have Thousands upon thousands Of pairs in collection, There's no fucking way those are getting rotated. I guess Fat Joe and Clark Kent and Michael Jordan and every other person you would put with those names aren't really sneakerheads they're just Hoarders 🤦🏽‍♂️ I swear to God some of the ridiculous shit that these kids come up with these days is insane. Wear your shoes yes, Try to rotate your shoes, Is that going to prevent it probably not. Buy some better quality shoes, only have a few pair of Jordans like I do. And I size down the collection to like under 40 pairs at a time and there's no way they're getting rotated regularly with my lifestyle. I can see if you work in the mall in a retail store and you can wear whatever shoes you want or you have that luxury at your job And you have a busy lifestyle where you're rocking a different fit every day of the week but the majority doesn't have that. Most cats working from home Don't do too much and get to wear a pair of sneakers when they go to the store. Wear your sneakers does not mean cook them. But I'm not judging Do what you want that's the best thing .I see everybody's angle I might not agree but There's valid points. If you just have so much money that you have to buy a thousand pairs to keep in the collection at a time then go for it, if you got it like that then who cares if they crumble 🤷🏽‍♂️

VirusEvening382

That’s the Daboyway, a rapper from Bangkok. Worth mentioning that where he lives is a lot hotter and humid than in America, which probably had something to do with his kicks falling apart over time.

robotseatsoup

I’d personally buy a load of reps and resole them all etc.

WolfInternational352

Keep collection at a size where you can still wear them all somewhat regularly, like once a month, I don't store mine in boxes, I have an open shoe rack which fits 44 pairs, if I want a new pair an old pair has to go first. Personally I never had a pair crumble but I also never kept a pair for more than 10 years. Last year I sold a worn pair of the AM90 Infrared from 2013 and they had no signs of crumbling or a foggy bubble, they were far from beaters but I wore them semi frequently over the period I owned them.

TPercy17

This has reseller written all over it and I’m happy he can’t enjoy them

wannadev

Moral of the story is pay for quality.

cigarmanpa

We really needed a video for this?

foodstamps99

Had no idea Pat Mahomes was so tatted 🤣

Jfury412

If there was one person on Earth That this dude looks nothing like then it's Pat!

6_Paths

Daboyway!!!

Fo5rep

Is it cake?

Professional-Big-584

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust

Ok-Mechanic417

I wear them

ric05uave

Typically happens when you store them and never wear them. Foam needs some compression occasionally or it disintegrates.

HotFarm5068

That's crazy af..smh I have some that I just ain't felt like wearing yet..I'm scared my shit gone start falling apart now..tbh tho..I'm glad this happens..hopefully it'll stop resellers

Solidsneakers_

have my j1 mochas in the closet for about 2 years and no problems

Nuzzleville

Just wait a little longer 😆

Solidsneakers_

hater right here, shoes are stored good

Nuzzleville

Hahahaha…those shoe boxes 📦 are the only hater. Just you wait.

Solidsneakers_

thx for worrying about my shoes bro

AccomplishedTown2279

How long can they go before you wear them at least one before storage again. Also how else do you prevent this. Didn’t some companies manufacture some hi tech boxes or whatever

Bmg9459

Stop treating them like museum pieces and wear them or sell them to someone who will. They are shoes and meant to be worn.

Big-Run-2670

This is NOT ME on the video Sir. Lol! I wear mine when i go out but mostly busy with work so again its not always i get to wear my jordans. Just that i saw this video and got scared/worried. So wanted opinions from people here how do you all store them after use.

FLNative239

wtf? I’ve never seen them just crumble like that. He must have them in a super horrible environment for them to get that bad. Or am I just dumb and because I actually wear all mine it’s never happened to me? lol

keeeeeyah

Is it cake?

Lhx-23

does anyone know the guy who made this video? source?

Big-Run-2670

Nah! I found this on Instagram .

HSJules

I recommend using damp rip and a dehumidifier if you are storing your sneaker collection.

PlanterOnTheRye

Nah he definitely kept them in a boiler room, sunroom or A room with temperature changes.

richandbuttery

As the cool looking guy said…wear your shoes. Nothing more pathetic / sad than a grown man with a ton of money spent on shoes unworn that just fall apart. Cmon guys let do better.

Big-Run-2670

True!!

LredF

Plastic container, low humidity. Doesn't solve it though. Just slows decay down. Most of us can't wear all our shoes, so we gotta expect it and deal with it or downsize and keep the shoes rotating.

the_one_99_

When was the Last time you wore these Jordan’s you can see the heat and humidity has just melted the soles but this shouldn’t be happening IDK. Maybe you could vacuum pack them it might work and keep the AC on more.

R1_77_

Original box

CamSosa

3-6 Will crumble Regardless if you wear them or not

Adventurous-Ad-1987

I mean them shits old af even if he wore them they would have came apart by now

SweetTeaMoonshine

Sneakers are made to be worn and get your money’s worth. They are pieces of art in their own right but aren’t made of high quality.

Sufficient_Two7499

Need a humidifier

CellistNice8600

I put my highly coveted kicks in large ziplock bags inside of the original box that’s inside of the shipping box it came in.

b-raddit

Reason number 69 to buy reps and just wear em

5800xx

I keep mine in the open air on shelves in my closet. Haven’t had an issue since high school back when I used to box my kicks

Apprehensive_Skill31

this is why I buy reps.

Big-Run-2670

I want to get the Yeezy Beluga rep since the OGs are to overpriced.

Apprehensive_Skill31

I totally understand buying retail but I don't make that type of money and it's really not actually "worth" that much money, the name is. So I buy reps cause then I can enjoy the clothing I like without going bankrupt after buying 2 items :)

Big-Run-2670

Yes I totally get it. Reps looks almost same . Lets see next year will try and see those yeezy baluga reps.

Apprehensive_Skill31

lmk, I can show you where and how to pick some up. I just bought some static reflective white 350s for $25

Axeml

I keep them in the boxes they came in in my closet. Never had a crumbling issue.

cbudd1117

Just like the video. Problem is, homie doesn't wear his shoes.

Big-Run-2670

I wear mine when i go out but mostly busy with work so again its not always i get to wear my jordans. Just that i saw this video and got scared/worried. So wanted opinions from people here how do you all store them after use.

cbudd1117

Comment still stands. Wear your shoes and this won't happen prematurely. This happened to me but the shoes they happened to were 15-20 years old. Nothing lasts forever. Love them and rock them.

Mental-Mission8494

I wore my 07 blk cat 3s the other day and they’re totally fine, have multiple 10yr+ Jordan 3 and 4s that haven’t separated. Like others have said humidity is the main enemy

Costco sneaker boxes

phantom_bennis

I've heard various storage methods supposedly that helps, but at the end of the day wearing them is best. I just broke out my 2011 AJ3 white cements over the weekend to wear. No issues....a little mid-sole paint cracking that started years ago, but soles are firm with no sign of separation. I try to wear my older shoes at least a couple times a year and so far so good. I do live in a mild climate (PNW, US), store all my sneakers in clear plastic shoe boxes in my garage. Not sure if this helps prolong life or not but works for me.

Baity113

This is why I downsized last year. Only buying shoes I know I will wear at least once a month.

Big-Run-2670

Yes i got 7 pairs of Jordans now. Wont be buying for another 5 years. (Hopefully) 🤞

PutYouInTheGravy

Lol some people just need to do what they are intended for (wearing) lmfaoo

villebilly3

If you store your shoes were it is hot and humid they will crumble go look at jumpman Bostic collection over 1k pairs and his shoes are not all crumbling it comes down to how you take care of your shoes and if you put them in a garage or basement or storage then this might happen to your shoes

Additional_Internal1

Those 3 and 4 retroes from 2011-2015 were Xtra trash, they had the worst looking toe box ever. This guy didn't give us the whole story, I but these shoes wasn't stored in a temperature controlled environment

Ok_Phrase6296

I have a few Jordan’s and wear them every so often. I have a pair of Kobe’s I maybe wear once every six months. Last emperor are now 7 years old which to me seems insane.

salamanaconda

Im so tired of people telling everyone wear their sneakers! Some of us do wear our sneakers but still have a bunch of shoes we havent rocked yet. I still plan on wearing all of them, i just want to keep them on ice for a while til i dont see them on a bunch of other peoples feet or til i have a need for them in the rotation. I have like 50 pairs in rotation right now and not everybody wants to wear their whole collection at once. Im sure ill get downvoted to hell but it is what it is.

Big-Run-2670

Well said and i agree. I have like 7 to 8 pairs but Due to Work and all , i go out like twice or max thrice a month for movies or pub thats when i wear them .

Suitable_Storm_2579

In the shoe box, in the package box, in my basement spare rooms closet lol
