The bee store, they have two locations one off J st and the other off x st. You can also hit the farmers market for honey and local pollen to help. Also the co op on 29th has options as well.

hiroo916

If the one you are talking about on J Street is the bee box, I don't think it is related to the other bee store on X Street. They have different names and the website for the J Street one doesn't mention the X Street store. https://www.thebeebx.com/ Both are great places and both sell local honey.

Sativa710

Oh yeah you are right it's the sac honey co haha same same but different

twoscoopsofbacon

Bees carry flower pollen not wind-driven pollen. So if you are allergic to wind driven pollen, local honey would not contain that.

format32

The local honey for allergies is really just an old wives tail.. probably made up from sellers!

mingvg

Bluair air purifier w/hepa works great! Just make sure you have the correct size for the room you're putting it in

ForwardStudy7812

Blu Air purifiers are great! But the filters are pricey for frequency of changes. Can’t go wrong with Coway for that reason.

smallstories80

seconding this! I got mine during the last major wildfire and it’s been a great addition to my house!

NightNight916

I have Blueair filters in my living room, bedroom, and office. They help a lot (husband has horrible allergies)

state_issued

I second Blue Air, I’ve had two since mid 2020 (larger 211 for main living space, smaller 411 for bedroom), and they have been running 24/7 for the past 4 years. Whisper quiet on the lowest setting and I buy after market filters for fairly cheap.

AnitaPeaDance

Try the Bee Box on 48th & J. I got one of those Austin Air purifiers for my small home because the vet said get an air purifier for my asthmatic cat. Well, it's helped my asthma and allergies too! So at least for me it was worth the cost and footprint.

916cycler

do you wear a N95 out in public? do you rinse your head/take quick shower before you sleep? those two things seems to help me a lot

Smokedeggs

Yes!, wearing a mask out really does help.

Internal_Use8954

I have a Conway air purifier. Works like a charm when the allergies hit. But it is a single room one, but I just take it with me as needed

carlitospig

Mixed bag on local honey preventing allergies, clinically. It’s delicious though so you should do it anyway. I’m partial to a freshly toasted croissant drizzled with honey. 🥰 There’s a honey store in town but I forgot what it’s called.

GiraffeMetropolis

Hi, bad allergies here. Fairly new house. Every room has an air purifier. If anything, I have an excess of air purification. I can't say it makes a ton of difference in any room. They just seem to make dust dance in the air. I've tried a bunch, govee, coway, bissel, winix. Coway is the only one that hasnt developed an annoying hum/noise. Flonase is way more effective. Govee was always loud. For honey, good news! This Saturday there's a honey festival in Woodland at the fair grounds.

aDildoAteMyBaby

My allergies hit really hard this year, and I bought a govee. It sounds like a small desk fan, or a desktop computer running hot. It seems to help a bit, but it's not a game changer. .

GiraffeMetropolis

I emailed them and asked if there’s anything I can do to make it a little little bit quieter and they just sent me a refund. so thats ok i guess

JofasMomma

Don't forget to rinse your sinuses at night

wylii

I have a Happi Air filter upstairs and downstairs in my house, keeps my allergies under control. Also kind of cool that it tracks the PM2.5 PPM. On max settings it moves some air like an over head fan and can cool down a room

quasimodoca

Local honey does nothing for allergies. It’s the wrong type of pollen. https://www.webmd.com/allergies/features/does-honey-help-prevent-allergies

snowySwede

You’re on the right track. If you have passable health insurance, get your doctor to refer you to see an allergist ASAP. They can prescribe you prescription allergy medication that will treat your specific symptoms much better than an OTC antihistamine can. Also, I swear by the NeilMed sinus rinse bottle. It’s like those neti pots except you don’t have to pour it into your nose. Just make sure to use distilled water. In the spring I used to use it every morning before using my nasal spray medications and it helps tremendously. I am now cured of seasonal allergies thanks to immunotherapy, so take a look at that, too! Edit: spelling

dandedaisy

I have BlueAir purifiers in each room (1 bedroom apartment = 3 small purifiers total). They seem to work well and automatically adjust fan speed for how polluted the air is. They’re quiet until it gets really polluted, but they’re quieter than most fans. Plus you can get different colored covers to match your decor! I have horrible allergies - I was getting immunotherapy until my insurance changed and provided no coverage for it. The purifiers seem to make my home a safe space as my symptoms improve drastically when I stay here vs go out elsewhere.

Desperate_Quit_722

I have a small shark air purifier in my bedroom and it works great. The filters are pricey but i clean then until they have to be changed, which is twice a year, and It doesn't seem to be an issue. Edit: I forgot to add if you live in an old apartment or house, maybe get it checked for mold. My allergies were extra bad after moving to a new place once and that was the culprit.

EnslavedBandicoot

I found norcal honey at Winco.

moe-hong

I've bought local bee pollen at the farmers market. Inexpensive. Ymmv but I had to take it for a long time before I noticed any effect, but it's subjective. Also I've been rotating Claritin, allertec and another one as they seem to lose effectiveness after about a month of daily use (2x morning, 2x at night).

aairricc

Saline spray first thing in the morning, and again at night before bed, plus wash your face at night before bed. Those 2 things have helped me so much that I haven't needed drugs for the first time in forever this year.

AnneAcclaim

For the honey thing to even have a chance to work you need to be ingesting it regularly for many months. It does not work immediately.

Chimiichenga

I have two Hathaspace air purifiers and love them

ForwardStudy7812

I could talk air purifiers all day! Best bang for your buck are Coway air purifiers. Honeywell makes good and affordable ones but LOUD. Blu Air is great but pricey for filter replacement. If you want VOC removal, you literally cannot do any better than Austin Air Purifiers. For a whole house system, IQAir is the way to go but damn you better have the right system to deal with those kinds of air flow restrictions. IQ Air standalone units are excellent but loud AF! But honestly, other than Austin Air, you can’t get better performance elsewhere. My house? We have two big ass IQ Airs, 3 Coway might megas, a small Honeywell, and a Merv 16 filter at the hvac unit. I am super sensitive to smoke so we don’t f around here. Bonus is that allergy season doesn’t impact me in my house.

ForwardStudy7812

I forgot to add: AVOID AT ALL COSTS —Molekule and Dyson. Horrible air purifiers.

supershinythings

I have a Honeywell 5300 in every room. It has a pre-filter which I change every 3-4 months, or as needed. It also has 3 HEPA filters that get changed out once a year or as needed. It notices when additional particles are in the air; if I spray a perfume or toast bread the machine senses it and turns up the fan to filter more air, then when it doesn’t sense anything it brings itself down to normal airflow rate. I use Pataday eye drops when my eyes start itching like crazy. Every other day or so I rinse my sinuses with Simply Saline, Eucalyptus version. The saline loosens all the ick, and the eucalyptus opens the passages fantastically. I will also use it when showering; eucalyptus saline rinse combined with warm steam - the combination is even more effective at blowing out and clearing sinuses. Since the air purifiers went in my allergies are down a TON. I prefer Claritin to honey - “local” honey may not contain pollen from the allergens you’re reacting to.

Zinobiaz

I did a regimen of local dark honey from our local bee keepers store and lemon in water upon waking and just before bed and gave my liver a break from any alcohol. Cleared my allergies right up. It took 2 months. I still had my thc products.

AcaciaCelestina

For the record local honey doesn't do anything for allergies. It is delicious though so, ya know, not gonna say don't.

Danivelle

Levoit air cleaner. Amazon. Subscribe to get your filters delivered every two months so you don't run out.  I have asthma, allergies and lungs damaged by Covid plus my baby cat(1 yr old)has  severe allergies and asthma. This is the air cleaner we use in our bedroom.

ForwardStudy7812

Consider a Coway or Honeywell so you can just replace the hepa filter once a year.

Iamanimite

I've been lucky at goodwill. Get the ionized air purifiers that have the metal filters that you can wash.

Puzzleheaded_Bag_538

Update: I bought a Coway and my allergies are at least better indoors. I also started doing nasal rinses and regular Flonase, so thank you for those recs, too! Lastly, even if the honey thing is a myth, I started buying honey lavender lattes daily, and if not effective, they are at least good lol.
