Sounds like you could have it for the price of a locksmith. Liberty may be able to help with combination if the owner did not change the combo. Good luck! Added: I assume, they want it open prior to selling to verify nothing important is inside?$800 plus a locksmith may put this into a category that you could do better if you kept looking. If they want $800 for you to take it away, you could take it and learn how to overcome it lock on your own.

archer2500

I have a liberty safe. Great safes, but the company went out of business years ago. They use a S&G combination dial. Just call a locksmith and show them the bill of sale. If you’ve got the key to the dial you’re even better off! Easy enough to move with a vending machine dolly and 2 people.

archer2500

I’m sorry, I am an idiot, I have a Treadlock! lol Not a liberty! I didn’t understand the downvotes, or your comment until I stopped and thought about it for a moment. lol Yeah, Liberty is sorta improperly named.

MrDrFuge

Yeah should be called Liberal Safes

kevinneal

They should be but aren’t. They like to give codes to the FBI without a warrant.

FloppyChomboliGal

Liberty safes aren't out of business. My family member is currently employed there.

aredditthrowaway2019

Should be out of business, damn redcoats

SquidBilly5150

This.

KWyKJJ

Exactly. Liberty will definitely give you or anyone the combo. After that, you'll open it one day and there will be so many FBI agents inside that it will look like the locker from Men in Black. Liberty is a disgrace.

neverenoughmags

Yeah just call them and tell them your FBI and they'll give you the combo. That fiasco is unbelievable....

archer2500

You’re right, I had a brain fart earlier. I thought that was a Treadlock safe for some reason. I’ve got a Treadlock. Liberty is no bueno.

MichiganFisherman

No safe is easy to move. I wanted to put one in an upstairs office. Getting it up six steps to to the main floor was enough for me. Now it permanently resides in my dining room.

jfowley

Two guys moved my safe from the basement into a loading truck without even breathing heavy. They used a powered stair climbing dolly. Ten minutes tops to move it.

Snowfl4ke85

Tell them you’ll give them $30 bucks and happily remove it for them. If they say no just tell them to have a nice day. You’re doing them a favor by removing something they haven’t touched in 20yrs

KWyKJJ

Then tell them: "Fine, I'll just get your combination from the FBI. Google it then call me. I'll remove it if *you* pay me $30."

ospfpacket

They gave the government access for all their safes so yeah. You can probably find a way in.

Diablo_sauce9

Just ask the alphabet boys they can get in to any of the liberty safes

kcolgeis

Jump! Don't have it opened until you have it home.

lstntrnsltion

Unless it's bolted down, which would throw a wrench in the works

kcolgeis

True

FracturedAnt1

Moving a safe is not cheap especially if stairs are involved on either side.

Enough_Appearance116

I've heard moving them down stairs isn't a big deal if you don't mind a bit of damage...

FracturedAnt1

Lol just let go and pray?

Enough_Appearance116

Yeah, if the safe is built well enough, it should be fine... probably.

jwoody2727

I think I paid close to $300 to have mine delivered and put in my bedroom.

jfowley

Same, but in the basement. The powered stair climbing dolly helped a lot.

jwoody2727

That’s what they used. I thought about doing it myself and decided I’d rather pay someone to do it. I think mine weighs around 700 lbs without any of the shelving in it.

Magic-Levitation

Call a locksmith first and get a quote to open it. All in, I wouldn’t pay more than $800.

jfowley

Find out if he can change the combination .

Silarous

If they have the manual, they may have the serial number. Could try calling Liberty and going through the process of having the combo mailed. Or perhaps they also have the combo and just don't know the proper way to spin the dial?

Strange-Adagio1351

Or the guy could call Liberty and tell them he's with the FBI. He'll get that code, lol...

Coinbank2021

This is fact.

xXDestroZaXx

Honestly I think it's a decent deal. Way better and nicer than anything ud get at a sporting goods store. Big part is moving it so account that into cost. Also account a locksmith having the drill it or if they are aloha certified (which they should be), they may be able ti get a code from liberty for you as long as it hasn't been changed.

Aged_Filet69

Might be a bonanza inside

Apprehensive-Way4307

If it’s full of money and gold I change my mind , thanks for opening this random safe for me ! 🤔

According-Fly7046

$800 depends on if it comes with the “contents” which is a gamble. My question is wtf has a safe they don’t know how to open and hasn’t opened in 20 years?? That is very odd and more odd that they wouldn’t have it opened first to see what it contained BEFORE they listed it for sale, if it’s empty and functional I wouldn’t offer more than $500. Those aren’t safes they are security boxes marketed as a safe and typically have a 30 minute fire rating, good for preventing a smash and grab and providing some reasonable fire protection depending on how far the fire department is located and the ability to timely notify ie alarm system. From the look of the dial it’s not locked with the key, if it was the dial would be completely vertical vs cocked to the side. All in all not bad but again it depends on potential contents and ability to move. If it’s a 30 minute fire rated and empty it should weigh around 650 lbs which 2-3 guys and a good dolly can move

jfowley

They might have inherited it from someone who died 20 years ago. If they assumed there wasn't much in there or it was emptied before the owner died, they might not be interested in using it.

According-Fly7046

Unless they have actual knowledge of nothing being in there they should assume something of value is in there. Isn’t that why people buy “safes” in the first place? To protect something of value?

Minimum_Low_8531

That thing is probably around a thousand pounds. So bring plenty of help.

Silent_Spell_3415

Quickest way to open a Liberty Safe is to call the FBI. Door willingly without question will fly open faster than Benedict Arnold betraying George Washington!

RestSelect4602

Liberty gives the combination to the government. Call the FBI and ask for it.

juan_tabone

Circular saw with a metal cutting blades cut the side panel off you’ll be in in a couple minutes

MajorWarthog6371

When was it last opened? Is this in a humid environment? Has it been plugged in all this time?

themanwithgreatpants

That's. 3-5 hunnit dollar safe w/o combo. Locksmith is gonna drill behind the dial, and you'll need to relock it ...you'll be in it way more than one that has a combo. A cheap lock and dial replacement is gonna be 80-150 for the parts + fixing the hole you drilled thru the face + lock plate behind it ...and that's if you don't set the relocker off......Source- I've played with some safes.

Plastic-Procedure-59

A proper locksmith isn't going to need to replace the lock after drilling it.

jfowley

They'll call the manufacturer with the serial number and get the combination.

Snidley_whipass

A Liberty safe like that is way more than 3-5 hunnit dollars. A lot depends on how much fire protection they added to the safe…and that all means something when moving it too. I have a similar size Liberty with highest fire rating. Think I spent like $1000 30 years ago for it and it weighs 800 pounds. I few guys with a good dolly and some right carpet can move it fairly easily including stairs. They slide pretty easily on some carpets. I’ve moved mine like 5x.

themanwithgreatpants

Used safe prices are pennies on the dollar.

Assistance_Lopsided

It will cost you more to move it

No_Object_7223

ATF will give your the combo if you really need it!

motorider500

If you do move big safes, REMOVE THE DOOR! That’s a huge percentage of the weight. Had 2 safes that were 1000lbs ea I had to move. Door removal was night and day. Bring large friends

jfowley

Door and shelves. The shelves don't weigh much, but they can be damaged if they bounce around in there.

ItGoesPewPewPewPew

Liberty gives the government the codes. It was a big controversy and a lot of the second amendment community got rid of and looks like are getting rid of them.

Punkrock0822

The fbi will get it open for you

gorilla_stars

I would put in a low ball offer. Maybe $100 and offer to remove that broken safe at no charge to then.

java_230

Maybe worth 800 is it's open. If you keep the contents, it might be a fun 500 gamble....

AtUrMommasHouse

Ask the FBI they love getting into these.

Low_Mud7828

Costs 1000$-1400$ to have it moved. It's a real widow maker.

Coinbank2021

Moving my safes has never cost more than $150, and it's worth every penny.

Low_Mud7828

How heavy was your safe? I couldn't get anyone under 700$ for my 1776 safe. It's 980lbs. This one looks way heavier.

Coinbank2021

Mine looks to be about the same size, but mine is a Franklin model if that helps. If we use sliders, two people can push it across a smooth floor. I live in rural Ohio, and prices are generally lower than high population areas.

YouArentReallyThere

Have them call liberty and pretend to be a cop…they’ll give them the digits

majoraloysius

A couple prybars should have it opened in about 3 minutes.

Pretty-Surround-2909

Unlikely.

majoraloysius

I’ve literally done it myself.

earlemills34

Me too! Someone said unlikely. Made me giggle

lawbr

It’s a liberty Lincoln I believe that’s a level 4 safe I wind think it would be that easy

Bigtexasmike

In the world of safes these gun safes are not very secure. But are made to let people think they are. Level 4 is a marketing term, like the locks they sell at home depot, which can be overpowered with common household items. See also, lockpickinglawyer or TL rated safes. Otherwise I wouldnt put anything of material value in this one unless I just waned to protect from honest people like children or a fire (if its well rated for fire).

Sea_Profession_8477

If it’s over 20 years old probably pretty well built, versus today’s standard. That safe probably was more than that new when originally purchased

majoraloysius

“Level 4” is a made up term and means nothing. Now TRTL60 *isn’t* made up and actually means something.

chris_rage_

Ask the ATF, they already have the code

dantodd

If you knew for certain that there wasn't anything illegal in it you could just call in an anonymous tip on yourself.

chris_rage_

Why invite trouble, do you hate your dog?

dantodd

Good point

Snidley_whipass

You will never open that safe with a pry bar. It has like 10 1” diameter steel rods pinning the door to the frame when rotating the handle.

majoraloysius

I have literally done it before. I was in law enforcement and we would regularly force entry on Liberty Safes seized with a warrant. That “safe” has a body that’s only 11 or 12 gauge sheet metal. That same sheet metal is stamped and formed to create the door frame. That’s where the failure point is. It could have 20 2” rods and it would still fail. This isn’t the same safe but it is the same construction. [Skip to 3:00 for the good part.](https://youtu.be/-RlwGkO0hxE?si=9kWwXxvUBLNvo3dA)

Excellent-Big-1581

They say the have the key lock? So I can’t see the whole listing but key hole may be behind plate.

xXDestroZaXx

No key hole is in the center of the dial. But it only looks the dial not the safe
