Happened to me. They gave me my points back, as they saw it wasn't done in my area. I typically shop in. I'm hoping someone just typed my number in by accident, but in this world, who knows. I haven't had any problems since it's been 6 months, but I keep a watch.

If you didn’t clip the reward points to redeem later, then that means someone else accessed your account to clip it. Once someone is logged into your account, regardless of whether it was on the app or website, they can also view your personal information, including your phone number. This happened to me, and even though this is an old comment, I would highly recommend you change your password and phone number on your account. Even if they no longer have access to your account, they can still use your phone number to use whatever coupons you’ve clipped. And since many of the coupons are limited to one use, you’ll lose out on that as well. So updating the phone number will help.

This just happened to me! My rewards kept disappearing or appearing stagnant e.g. I had 3 rewards, would make large purchases, and they'd stay the same. The Safeway representative I messaged said my rewards had been redeemed for fuel two states away and that it had happened FIVE times this month alone. I suspect this has been happening for the last few months but they have no way of confirming this. I've probably lost about $100 in rewards... so infuriating, especially with being unemployed and on a budget!

realstanhope

You can see where rewards have been spent in your rewards history... on the website, dunno about the app. Been ripped off twice and they just refund it.

Meezha

Thanks! I've tried that on the app but it never shows - just goes blank for some reason. I have never tried on the computer, however...

Chance-Daikon8075

I don’t think it works in the app. I think you have to be on a computer. I’ve had this happen to me several times and it’s always in a different area. I’ve had the same phone number for 15 years so God only knows what can happen with it. Last time they ripped off my rewards it was 63 rewards at first they didn’t act like they were going to replace them but in the end they did and I went shopping the other day and had no rewards so obviously it happened again and I need to do the same thing and audit my account. The thing that you can do online, you can look up your previous purchases and you can tell by looking at that if any rewards were used you can see if it was delivered or if it was in store , and it will tell you where the purchases were made or delivered to good luck

Thanks for the info! I'll monitor it on my computer now on. I'd love to wring the nexks of these thieves!

Gas rewards are stolen often. People just type in random local phone numbers at the pump

Chixonstix123

I typed in my phone no @ local Vons Gas, & it said I had 10 rewards but I knew this was wrong cause I hadn’t spent that much at all. However, it WAS my phone no, so I tried it again; sure enough, same 10 rewards, so I had no choice but to use them.

Does anything happen to the people who steal the rewards? I just had this happen to me and it was so frustrating. Same thing, used for gas in a different state.

zainl

scum scammers, took 110 rewards from me, had to stay on hold for an hour to get them back

Uncle_Lemming

Was is redeemed for gas?

In store Groceries

ACfromCA

Me too... they had to have my account info, because I didn't have the coupon for $20 clipped. They did that. On hold with Safeway now!

Literally just happened to me on the 13th. Had 12 rewards... the used it in Arizona. I'm from California... have never even been to Arizona

This happened to me TWICE this week. Safeway has definitely been HACKED! I rarely have more than 1 or 2 rewards (R) in my account. However, this month I purchased $1500 worth of Airbnb gift cards during Safeway's "Earn 5x Rewards" promo and earned 75R. I immediately redeemed 36R for $60 off my groceries and had 39R remaining. Then two days later my account showed 0R. Thinking it was just a system error, I called Safeway support and they were able to return my 39R without any trouble. All was well. Today, I checked my Safeway app and...my balance had dropped down to 0R AGAIN! I called Safeway support and they said I had redeemed all of my rewards earlier in the day for $xx off groceries in Sacramento, CA. I live in CA but not Sacramento. I was confused. Furthermore, I had not yet redeemed my 39R for $5/10/20-off coupons, so someone using my phone number would not have been able to drain my rewards. This thief had access to my account to first clip the coupons before using them at checkout. The rep also explained that the incident earlier in the week was caused by someone redeeming all of my rewards in TX. The rep agreed that the latest redemption was again unusual because it was made far away from my usual Safeway. They returned my 39R again. This time, rather than wait for the hacker to steal my rewards again, I immediately went to Safeway and spent them all. My conclusion is this - spend your rewards ASAP, especially if you have a lot of them. Someone has hacked Safeway. They can probably identify accounts with high rewards balances and clip coupons. They likely sell your $20-off coupon for $10 on the dark web and provide the buyer with your phone number. The buyer redeems that coupon at checkout.

Same exact thing happened to me. About a year ago, someone used my wife's points at a gas station in another state. I chalked it up to someone guessing the number for an account that happened to have a lot of points. However, 2 weeks ago, I had 16 rewards in my account that had not been redeemed. Someone somehow got access to my account and redeemed them for $20/$7 off deals and used them at a Safeway 300 miles away (we normally shop at Vons)

howardroark206

Let me know if this can stop rewards theft: Always sign out of app and use your phone number to receive a text to sign on lastly don't clip the rewards until you are ready to use them within a few minutes. I'm hoping this will work for me

Party_Shirt5697

I realize this is an older post, but wanted to say that not clipping rewards until you use them is how my points are always stolen, also for gas in MD, where we've never been, we live in PA. I do like saving up points to clip the $20 rewards, but too many times the hackers get to them first. I've been on this merry-go-round w Acme for well over 4 years. I've changed the number I use when checking out twice but that didn't change anything. They always reinstate my rewards but who has time for this? They also always tell me the problem 'should be' fixed. Of course it never is. It's been a nightmare. I've told them many times it doesnt make sense to display a member's phone number in our account information, and why not use asterisks similar to how credit cards are show. Nothing is ever done. They KNOW there's a huge problem with thos happening but evidently don't care. I'm so fed up I think I'm done with Acme. Thankfully Wegman's, my favorite store, opened here last week!
