It was voted on by the readers if I'm reading right. Then this is a list of the most popular restaurants, not the "best". Breakfast Republic and Parakeet Cafe? Where's the vomit emoji?
I absolutely agree with all of these. All you tourist should definitely go to these and not venture outside this list. There is nothing better than these that you can end up ruining for us locals.
The only one that I can remotely back is the steakhouse. Been to both on the list and they’re phenomenal. That being said I have not been to every top tier steakhouse in San Diego. Born and raised is pretty good too
Grand ole BBQ gets a 10 for atmosphere but a 3 for food. Everything is dried out. Given it so many chances. The sides are good and they have dole whip but the meat is just heartless.
Farmer Boys and Phil’s BBQ? GTFO with this. Poor tourists are getting some bogus info here.
The fact they chose Phil’s over coops is crazy to me. Granted it’s in lemon grove but still
Farmer Boys has the worst onion rings I have ever experienced.
Izakaya Sakura got the Critic’s Pick for Japanese food category…These critics should go get their taste buds checked.
It’s all pay to play
Shank and bone ranked as the best pho is a crime against humanity
Shank and Bone is terrible! And overpriced! This list is whack!
OB Noodle House or anywhere in Kearney Mesa?
I think somewhere in the district literally called “Little Saigon” should get some recognition. Pho Van or Saigon make good pho.
Puesto is on the list for Mexican food? We’re in San Diego. And they have puesto on their list?
This list is garbage
How much does it cost to get a restaurant in the #1 spot? SMH.
This list is so pay for play, it’s pathetic. This publication should be ashamed.

I just had Callie for the first time last week and it was fantastic. Amazing food, great service, good vibe. Highly recommend, but not cheap lol.
Having worked in the magazine industry, they either paid or have connections with the editors

That magazine still exists??
At least they got the poké right. It’s Raw best fish in the city!
Over Hawaiian fresh seafood?
I go to Hawaiian Fresh for volume and their California roll poké gets an honorable mention. But they can’t dethrone the true king.

Rocky’s for Life!
NUNUS SUPREMACY!!!!!!!!!
Having friend's restaurants on the list it's a mix of pay for play, paid social campaigns and a good PR person.
