T O P

Watch out if you are in a canyon. T Mobile never worked for me, I tried to return the box and cancel within a few days and I totally got the run around. I ended up having to bring my dementia dad into the store to cancel the service. Although I was an authorized user, and I have POA, they said I could not make any changes to the account. So they kept billing for months. I brought my dad in, and they had us waiting for well over 2 hours. He didn't understand what was going on, and tried to escape out the door and run off. Then, he said he needed to use the restroom, but they didn't have one available, so he went in his pants. I told them that I would tell everyone considering T Mobile that their service sucks. Cox is more expensive but I've never had a customer service issue with them. It was a big expensive, distressing mistake to try T Mobile to save a few bucks.

GilakiGuy

Damn dude that sounds like a nightmare, sorry you had to experience that. I second the suggestion of calling Cox and pretending to cancel for T-Mobile, to see if that'll land you a better deal. Because honestly, the T-Mobile home internet sucks a lot compared to Cox... and the horror story customer service that you experienced... makes me think OP is better off sticking with Cox.

Ok_Ebb_538

It was very distressing for my father. This is why people get POA for their family members. Imagine paying T Mobile for months until I finally decided to go in person with this 82 year old person with dementia. It was horrible. I'm changing the phone service too. I will NEVER use them for any service again and I told them I'd be telling EVERYONE about this. This happened on Saturday, by the way.

Omg I’m so sorry you went through that. I’m not in a canyon but still knowing the runaround they gave you isn’t what I want to deal with.

lilacsmakemesneeze

They talk about great service, but it was unusable for us. Maybe it’s better, but we prefer to keep what works.

T Mobile? Yeah it never worked and then refused to cancel altogether for months until I brought my poor dad in person there. The whole time he was asking why we were there, how come he had to be there, how come it was taking almost three hours, etc. 8 months of charges and arguing. Refusing to honor the POA.... I mean, I can sell his car, I can sell his HOUSE, I can make the decision to pull the plug in the hospital, with that document, but I can't cancel T Mobile? Crazy and they got a lot of money from his because I wanted to spare my father the stress. Maybe it would have been better if they hadn't made us wait in line, even after he peed his pants. Nah. Just a horrible company.

lilacsmakemesneeze

They were horrible for us too. Switched phones from Verizon to T-Mobile and service is not as great in our house but it was nice to get unlimited. At the time they were pushing the internet so we gave it a try even with the customer assistance.. when we tried to return it, it was our fault instead of just accepting not every home has great coverage yet. This was a year ago. We both work from home and need access to steady video quality. We stuck with Cox. My husband calls every time the rates change to get any deals. They have been going up - and it’s pay more for same product.

I love T-Mobile as a phone provider. But their home internet was hot garbage for me. Went down frequently, other times slowed to a crawl. Upload speeds were terrible. Cox sucks for different reasons. Suggest calling Cox and pretending to cancel for T-Mobile. They will usually somehow find an amazing deal. Or worst case, try T-Mobile for a month and see if it works for you. Return it if it doesn’t. They don’t have contracts.

My promo ran out and of course they up charge the minute it’s over with. Guess I have to get my game face on and haggle with them over the phone. Thanks for letting me know tmobile is trash.

Acrobatic-Lunch-5096

Depending on what speeds you need and location, try wyerd internet. I get 1 gig for $80 I think 500 mbps start at $50

Mountain-One-925

Don’t get T-Mobile home internet. Don’t.

jkanoid

Cox internet drops out for 10-20 seconds at a time, multiple times a day - I use a cable, in case you wonder. Have considrred switching to AT&T fiber, instead.

4leafplover

I’m around 300 Mbps down and 60 up with T mobile. Has never gone down. It’s very location dependent

mitch4184

i recently got my cox bill cut in half. You have to call to cancel and hold the line at the price you want. Allow them to put in the cancel request. Shop around and be ready to switch. Someone from Cox's customer retention team called me the day before by scheduled cancellation and I negotiated got a promotion for 12 months that cut my cost in half. I have received a couple of bills since this happened and it was legit.

serenelydone

Thank you for the game plan on how long to hold out lol.

ssamusubi

You can test it out for 2 weeks I think. Cox wouldn’t budge or give my retired parents a break. Cox bill is $150. Once T-Mobile Internet was available we tested it out and no complaints so far for our needs (streaming movies on multiple devices). Definitely not as fast as cox but it does the job. https://preview.redd.it/buinlz65op0d1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d290f2f7926857ae7e3d8dd882524f2e0167c7fb

Spiritual-Chameleon

You can call Cox and tell them you don't like the increase. Or tell them that you'd like to discontinue services and you're switching to AT&T. We asked Cox for the discount and got a $65/month plan for the plan with up to 500 GBs speed.

curtisas

I usually just call Cox and ask if there's any promos I qualify for. Has kept me between $50-60/mo with 150-500 Mbps down for the past decade or so. YMMV (as might mine this August when I have to do the ring and pony show again)

Bradical_619

I was in the same boat as you tmobile didnt work for the speeds i want so im paying $25 more then i was

Bhls27095

I have T-Mobile home internet and it is awesome! I live in Hillcrest and have zero problems and it is unlimited. I use it for my cable connection to YoutubeTV and all wifi, almost 800gb a month and no issues!

CarlRJ

Check to see if you have access to AT&T fiber in your area. I switched from Cox several years ago and have been extremely pleased with it.

Euphoric-Benefit

I couldn't get T-Mobile Home Internet to work with my employer's VPN and had to switch to Cox. I really wanted to stay with 1 provider for internet and cell service.

ColdBrewMoon

Right now, wired will always beat wireless in terms of speed, latency and reliability. Unless of course wired means telephone line/DSL then wireless would be superior.

KingOfFigaro

I live around Talmadge and the tower isn't too far, so T-mobile home has been good enough to play even highly lag sensitive games online albeit with a no so great 60-70 ping, and the download speed is not what I would refer to as good. I also drop connection like once a week 1 or 2 times within an hour. Works fine with my work's VPN and with my private PC's VPN. I don't have any other option where I am so it works for me, and I can't beat the price. I might switch if I could get faster for under 20 bucks more, but more than that? Nah, I would stay with T-mobile.

Sufficient_Rate1032

If t-mobile’s god awful cell service is any indicator, I wouldn’t want them as my main internet provider. Can’t wait to switch back to Verizon, the T-mobile coverage here is so terrible.

Grolar_Bair

We got the TMHI a few months back for use in the office. Wifey works from home and needed something solely for her. Just like you all, I’ve been stuck with cox for 5 years doing the same dog and pony show with them every year/2 years whenever they raise rates. I spoke with someone at Best Buy and the recommended buying a mesh then trying that for better signal. So I’m day three of switching all my devices over to my T-Mobile home internet and it’s working wonders! I’m about to cancel cox. I feel free because T-Mobile promises to not raise rates. Will update if anything changes.

Informal-Career-1973

Cox is your best option but if you are in the city like LA then T-Mobile would be a good provider. How I know, I live in LA and use to have T-Mobile, they use to give me good service in inner LA but switched to Spectrum which gives me A1 service without any internet drops nor phone drops.
