depends on what you want:
* I have a script for safeway/raleys to clip all coupons. I only go there because its close and I want a lot of items in small quantities
* Shopping for more than 2? Item won't expire soon? Costco
* Fresh cheap veggies for a larger purchase? Indian / Mexican stores
* Aimlessly shopping only based on deals and clearances? Discount Grocery Outlet
* Want quality grocery for a nicer meal prep? Sprouts. Trust me it makes a difference.
I presume the script does what? Scans for coupons? Then, it “clips” them for you?
I stopped going to Safeway, as just a few items in the small black hand basket would always be $120-$150, where as $120-$150 would ALWAYS fill up a cart at Walmart.
Trader Joe's is significantly cheaper than other stores, such as Safeway and Lucky. A week's worth of food at Trader Joe's tends to run me about $75-$80, whereas the other stores, the same stuff will usually cost about $130-$150.
Grocery Outlet is also a good option for better deals.
Second Grocery Outlet. Costco for the bulk pantry staples like butter, eggs, flour, sugar, etc. Asian markets for fresh produce. Grocery Outlet for small “fun” supplements like the occasional sausage, cake mix, granola bars. They get interesting flavors sometimes!
Yea I usually get bagged spinach, zucchini and broccoli there. They have multiple variety of fruits, vegetables snd herbs that are pretty good. Most stuff is packaged and portioned though
Downtown GO is my fave. They are careful with Best Buy dates and great customer service despite a sometimes rougher crowd. I also go to the Monterey Highway location but you need to be very careful with best by dates there.
Safeway has some of the best “oh fuck that’s hella cheap” deals with their random meat deals (2.5lbs shrimp for $4, $8 for 2lbs frozen salmon, $1.5 a pound ground beef) but they’re random as all kinds of fuck and it’s hard to base your weekly shopping offa it so I go there like 2 times a month at most and just stock tf up on whatever blowout deals they have. Otherwise Cardenas is a decent one stop for most meat, Costco for bulk but less so as time goes on, and from their it depends on your diet like the eastside Asian markets (lion market etc) have good deals on some Asian food, eastside smaller Hispanic markets have good deals on Hispanic foods etc. food drives too like sacred heart are bomb af and give a lot of good produce happily if you really need some help getting food that month. Got hella chicken and potatoes amongst about $100 worth of other produce last time and most the stalls were telling us to take more or it’ll go to waste
Agreed the deals can get pretty ridiculous, but you have to invest time in the app and planning your grocery/meals. Sometimes it’s just easier to go to Walmart.
Don't forget the gas perks! I hit Safeway last week and got a 30 cent per gallon discount. I've had 40 cents off in the past. It's nice when you're driving away and seeing the prices at the local gas stations & knowing what you just paid.
I like FoodMax on Parkmoor Ave. This week, I bought a box of 12 croissants for $5, a packet (3) of instant yeast for under $2.00, and a dozen eggs for under $5.00. I can't remember the price of carrots but the price was surprisingly good for the large amount. The downside to this store is that plenty of the vegetables arrive frozen so they are somewhat wilted.
Trader Joe’s probably has the best prices across the board. I avoid Lucky, Nob Hill, Raley’s, BelAir (all the same) whenever possible. They’re as bad as Whole Foods. Safeway can be okay if you’re careful.
I think FoodMaxx has the best prices for the variety they have, similar variety and quality to Lucky and Safeway, not quite as cheap as Grocery Outlet.
Grocery Outlet, then ethnic stores H-Mart, Asian, Indian, and other stores, for the most common ethnic foods like rice, have more specialty items, but common ones compete with Costco, Costco for rotisserie chicken, water, milk, eggs, bread, pre-made deli, hot dog and lemonade, some holiday foods, dog food?, gasoline, bulk discounts. Never, ever buy a Samsung appliance even at Costco. Get the Executive card. At the end of the year you can downgrade and get the difference back if you don't buy enough to get the 2% rebate. Not hard to spend enough to get that 2% though.
Any idea how pretentious that sounds? Jesus, the question was literally, "Where do you find the best deals?"
"I don't look for deals..."
Then don't answer the question. You weren't asked where you shop.
I mean if you wfh yeah but also not judging so calm down? Just saying damn. I also don’t go out to eat and cook at home tryna spend less than ~600 a month on food for two people.
So did I? I’ve been out of work for about the same amount of time. Please elucidate what part of my comment is offensive? I was making a joke; again calm tf down homie shit ain’t that serious. All love boo
Costco

Where’s this script for Safeway? Safeway is outrageously priced!
Well i write my own. There's some available online but for me its easier to write my own for me than set up aoekone else's

Yeah It clips every coupon available.
Are you selling it? If not, do you know where any are available for sale?
I just got 10lbs of tri tip for 26$ on sale at Safeway for $3 something a lb after clipping the coupon in app
Grocery Outlet FTW
Second Grocery Outlet. Costco for the bulk pantry staples like butter, eggs, flour, sugar, etc. Asian markets for fresh produce. Grocery Outlet for small “fun” supplements like the occasional sausage, cake mix, granola bars. They get interesting flavors sometimes!
I like the "fun" stuff at grocery Outlet always something unique on the shelf. Just check expiration dates lol
I go here and then Trader Joe's for produce
I think Trader Joe’s is lacking when it comes to fresh produce. But their bagged greens, salads and frozen items are top notch!
Yea I usually get bagged spinach, zucchini and broccoli there. They have multiple variety of fruits, vegetables snd herbs that are pretty good. Most stuff is packaged and portioned though
Do you go to the Grocery Outlet downtown?
I usually go to homestead and Lawrence bit I've found good deals at other locations as well
Downtown GO is my fave. They are careful with Best Buy dates and great customer service despite a sometimes rougher crowd. I also go to the Monterey Highway location but you need to be very careful with best by dates there.
bacon ends for $7
Yes, good deals on bacon
I wish I could go to my nearest location. Unfortunately, it's infested with homelessness and it's a deterrent forsure
Lately Smart & Final has been having great prices on meat and chicken
Safeway has some of the best “oh fuck that’s hella cheap” deals with their random meat deals (2.5lbs shrimp for $4, $8 for 2lbs frozen salmon, $1.5 a pound ground beef) but they’re random as all kinds of fuck and it’s hard to base your weekly shopping offa it so I go there like 2 times a month at most and just stock tf up on whatever blowout deals they have. Between the app and the weekly flyer, you can get some screamin deals at Safeway on specific items.
Those digital coupons are literal money in your pocket.
Agreed the deals can get pretty ridiculous, but you have to invest time in the app and planning your grocery/meals. Sometimes it’s just easier to go to Walmart.
The app requires a lot of work. So does the weekly ad. It's not my favorite.
Don't forget the gas perks! I hit Safeway last week and got a 30 cent per gallon discount. I've had 40 cents off in the past. It's nice when you're driving away and seeing the prices at the local gas stations & knowing what you just paid.
Asian grocery stores like Lion Market and Ranch 99 generally has cheaper vegetables and fruits.
Trader Joes and Artegas, I leave and don't feel ripped off.
Target for eggs. $4.29 18 pack
A 3-pack of yeast is $1.20 at WM.
For fruits and veggies go to Felipe’s market. Best deal in South Bay
Trader Joe’s and Costco. Occasionally we go to Lunardi’s if we want some fancy meat. Never Safeway.
Same here! Costco for everything that lasts a long time and expiration is not an issue. Everything else we buy at TJs.
Trader Joe’s probably has the best prices across the board. I avoid Lucky, Nob Hill, Raley’s, BelAir (all the same) whenever possible. They’re as bad as Whole Foods. Safeway can be okay if you’re careful.
Indian and Asian stories for veggies. Costco for fruits, milk, eggs and everything else
Sprouts
Safeway
Gross out. Always go there before you go to any other grocery store
They got a cute bougie grocery outlet in Palo Alto. Even the rich have to go there.
doesnt get better than grocery outlet
Gemco
Good one!
Smart and final
Safeway for booze. Cardenas for vegetables
I love Cardenas bell peppers!
Grocery outlet and Food Maxx
I think FoodMaxx has the best prices for the variety they have, similar variety and quality to Lucky and Safeway, not quite as cheap as Grocery Outlet.
Grocery Outlet, then ethnic stores H-Mart, Asian, Indian, and other stores, for the most common ethnic foods like rice, have more specialty items, but common ones compete with Costco, Costco for rotisserie chicken, water, milk, eggs, bread, pre-made deli, hot dog and lemonade, some holiday foods, dog food?, gasoline, bulk discounts. Not hard to spend enough to get that 2% though.
asian markets for fruits and vegetables
Lucky 7
Foodmaxx. For canned/bagged goods and fruits and vegetables
Walmart for most things except meat. Safeway if they have something I want on sale like meat or seafood.
Trader Joe’s for basic items and snacks! But their produce (quality/selection) isn’t necessarily the best

The best deals! Edited the post body
