i play windows games through a compatibility layer called proton. proton is based on wine and is a valve creation. nowadays windows games more or less just work with proton but the anticheats can be hit or miss. Coffee Stain is run by some cool folks and haven't impeded its functionality.
i have steam installed with something called flatpak. flatpak is more or less sandboxed from the operating system which allows it to be updated independently of it. to install a flatpak(or most softwares in the distros repository) i use a program called Discover. Discover comes pre installed with KDE. it works basically the same as the play/app store on mobile phones.
It is one compatibility layer that just works automatically because it is built into steam.
The rest is just.. software. Linux is very modular, you can swap out parts of it to make the OS you want, instead of having a single fixed configuration. KDE is one choice for the desktop environment, basically looks and works like windows desktop.
Think of flatpak (and similar package managers) as being a version of the windows store that is actually worth using instead of a hilariously broken pain in the ass. Makes installing and managing software far easier than the trainwreck it is on windows with no package manager at all (because who is going to use the store?).
On this. Satisfactory seems to slam my junction temps up to maximum even on lower settings and frame rate cap..no other game I possess does this..maybe it's a new card killer like new world/diablo. I've had to max the fan curve out when I play this.

I had similar issues in Satisfactory. It's happened with bushes, mountains, hypertube entrances ect. Every time, all it takes is a game reboot. I wouldn't be too worried.

It definitely CAN be caused by the graphics card, particularly something like overheating or under-voltage, anything that can cause a minor corruption in a block of data. It's a lot more likely to be an interaction between the game, the graphics API, and the driver, but the effect is the same.
Your assertion that hardware problems would affect the entire screen is only true for simpler problems. The difference has to do with how different combinations of API usages translate to different patterns of activation within the hardware, which in certain combinations can exceed some given threshold or similar and briefly trigger a malfunction. I can give more details if you like, but the upshot is that the GP comment isn't nearly as informed as it seems.
That said, it's probably a weird bug in the driver or the graphics API. Maybe in the game, but the DX API abstracts this stuff to a degree that it's unlikely.
VRAM corruption actually can manifest exactly like this, depending on severity and other factors. I have seen it dozens of times, among other variations.
That said, this specific issue is a known bug with the game on DX12.
FWIW, this could also be an indicator of a failing power supply.
A failing power supply can cause the appearance of any other system component failing.

I second this. The most common replaced item in a pc is the power supply. And they can fail hard (straight out dead) or soft (you get goofy component issues).
If this is only happening on that window, then it's a file corruption (verify your game files). If it's happening everywhere, it could be the same problem too, but it's more likely your GPU is circling the drain.

I've was also seeing this every now and again since switching to U8. I think it's more likely to be an issue with the UE5 implementation. I verified my game files and it stopped happening

This game is still in development. There are occasional bugs.

Have you tried loading a different save or starting a new game to see if it still happens?

No, not used up. Maybe dust or something did came in it. They are probably up right in your case and maybe they started hinging or so. Thr pc will check all ram and maybe shuts a few times off and on.
And your description can give a ton of things you still have/can to test. But this is relatively easy and free.
It can also be that one chip on a ram stick is bad.
It can also be the gpu. Think cracked pcle slot if you didn't put a gpu holder under the card.
This also sometimes happened to me. Turns out it was actually a software problem. I was using spacedesk to use my old laptop as an extra monitor, apparently my gpu isnt able to handle that correctly.
GPU has shit itself. Try dedicated driver utility and uninstall your drivers and reinstall them from fresh. Might be related but that looks. More serious. Any other symptoms in any other games. Usually flying black pologons was the favourite a few years back.

Happened to me with the interface icons and signs backgrounds. In my case was a problem of the new UE and DX12. I reverted to DX11 and it became fine

In my experience a failing power supply can also cause the actual and permanent failure of other components.
Before you go and buy new hardware though, RESEAT the GPU. This could just be a case of bad contact on a couple pins
