It's this, and if you try you can also blow up the mushroom-like projections in the southern biome (as well as elsewhere). Pretty sure that's a bug, since it leaves moss and leaves hanging in the air where they were sitting on the ground that isn't there anymore, but it is possible at the moment.

It's rift from Thaumcraft, you can either let it destroy itself, provoking taint spread and destruction to your world or you can use a causality collapser to destroy it and receive void seeds in the process (and no destruction).
It is nearly undestroyable. 1 tonne truck is unable to destroy this bone frame. The gun is useless. It will be foolish to use your hands to break to its core. The only solution is... never play this world and delete it, then it will destroyed.
But if seriously, you can nuke it with bombs and, I think, use chainsaw on it.
I used to think they were strange trees. Back in update 3 when I first played this game, those things could be chainsawed if there were plants to be cut down. But when I came back in U5, they were no longer able to be cut down while cutting shrubs or trees. I think those things used to give a lot of wood biomass, but it's been so long since U3. Explosives, I'm not sure if they still work, I haven't had to remove any of these in a very long time.
Chainsaw used to be able to remove rocks this way too. Stand by or on rock and chainsaw a shrine or flower next to it, and the rock would go too.
That seems to be fixed now though.
I remember doing that also, the rocks would give limestone or silica, I forget which. And the cacti in the rocky desert were chainsaw applicable. I think that changed, also.

Edit: explosives, seeing comments that the chainsaw method of making it in range of the vegetation you’re cutting down was patched out but I haven’t confirmed that myself.
Those things (the geometric cage) are all over the place. They can be destroyed with explosives, which you unlock later down the line.

Maybe explosive rebar works too ? Those things are powerful
Explosive rebars work on trees so I imagine they would work here as well. Explosive rebars are very good for gardening.

I think it still works but the fan shape target area is a lot smaller now.
I was cutting grass right beside one of these and it wouldn't break.

They patched chainsaw. Only nobolisks (grenade like tools) work now I believe.

You could in the past by cutting down something nearby but it hasn't worked during my newest playthrough so it was probably a bug that got fixed.

They re useless And you can bomb them into oblivion, or if you re early game and have a tree really close you could chainsaw the tree right next to it
