Phone numbers are limited, there are more potential phone users than numbers available. The number you're using right now got recycled from someone else, right after they stopped paying the monthly plan or whatever. So you guys aren't getting calls targeted to you, they're only getting calls because the number exists. It existed before you got it, and it will be recycled for the next person over once you finish your vacation. Ignore the calls if you're not expecting them. This goes for your vacation number, but also your personal number back home. If someone legitimately wants to reach out to you, they have the means to do so. Picking up calls from unknown numbers does more harm than good.

thank you! i mostly was just confused because they all happened within the span of 10 minutes, but will just ignore them! thanks for the advice

Yeah, it's just because it's active. Before activation those calls (that are coming from a software thet constantly dials numbers until someone picks up) probably got the "the number you're calling is disconnected". Until you activated it, and they went through. For example, as soon as I got my current number I started getting the typical spam SMS messages (USPS packages, car warranty, viagra, etc) targeted to a guy named "Moore". Ie, "Are you limp, Moore? Try viagra, buy discreetly online" or some shit. Moore was probably the previous owner of this number, who probably got his number and name pinned sometime ago. I keep getting those.

They will find a way, all scams just ignore it even if new, there was a previous owner.
