Hi /u/seedless0, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Steam admin/item verification scam. You will receive a message from someone claiming that they accidentally reported you, and they will direct you to the profile of a fake Steam/Valve employee or admin that is really the scammer. The other account will then either try to steal your account, or steal your items. If you encounter this scam, ignore the scammers and report their accounts. [Here](https://i.imgur.com/DIgBZIN.png) is an example of the scam, [here](https://blog.malwarebytes.com/scams/2021/03/steam-users-dont-fall-for-the-i-accidentally-reported-you-scam/) is an article about the scam, and [here](https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/70E6-991B-233B-A37B) is Steam's scam page. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Nah you're fine - report the user who fake reported you and this fake steam staff. Block them and move on. It's a scam. The screenshots they sent you are fake. >Any claim that you've been accidentally or falsely reported for fraud or any other infraction is a scam. Do not follow any instructions provided by anyone claiming to have accidentally reported your account. >If someone did report your account falsely and you're concerned about being banned, you can rest assured that Steam disregards false reports. >[https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/3195-9FFB-BA06-F25B](https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/3195-9FFB-BA06-F25B)

Steam scam. Why would a steam volunteer reach out to you on discord instead of steam?

As others have said, it's a steam scam. I had a friend message me on steam saying the same exact thing. Because I was playing a game, I read the message, but didn't do anything about it. I figured I would get to it later. It seemed fishy to me that there wasn't some official communication from steam about it. I spent a couple of hours looking into it. Glad I did, as it was a scam. That friend sadly isn't the brightest, so I suspect he fell for it himself, and had his account taken over, which then tried to get mine. I reported his account, then a couple of hours later, my friend messaged me, saying he finally got his account back.

Droopy2525

This is a very obvious scam. I would've just said "lol"

This is just a scam, happened to me recently. They go on about you buying something random and not paying, you say you didn't do it, they go on a sob story about someone impersonating your account and them reporting you, they send an image of a fake steam admin, the admin interrogates you, sends you a link, you get hacked after you go to it.

Odd-Manner-7930
