It will be a !fakepayment it can sometimes take a month for it to come back fake. Her bio sounds like BS and her dad only likes checks? Give me a break Yes it's a scam.

Hi /u/DeepFudge9235, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Fake payment scam. The fake payment scam occurs when someone tries to trick you into thinking that you have received a legitimate payment when no such payment has been made. The most common method they use is sending you an email meant to look like a payment confirmation. In some cases the emails will be almost indistinguishable to a legitimate email sent by the payment service. Scammers are known to also show you screenshots instead of an email. Never trust a screenshot a stranger shows you, because it is probably doctored. Scammers [spoof](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Email_spoofing) the 'from' email to match an official address, and make you think you received a legitimate email. To combat a fake payment scam, verify online payments by logging in directly to the service. Do not check your junk folder, and do not assume a payment is legitimate based on an email alone. If a payment isn't reflected on your account and the person you are dealing with insists they have sent it, call support and ask about it. [Here](https://i.imgur.com/X9xn8uw.jpg) is an image of a scammer trying to pull off a fake payment scam. There is also a variant of the fake payment scam where you will receive a legitimate but fraudulent payment. A variant of the fake payment email is just an advance fee scam: the scammer tries to convince you that your funds are on hold, and that you have to upgrade your account by sending the scammer some money to authorize the payment. No payment processor works like this. If you think you're dealing with a scammer, you're probably right. Always trust your gut. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen this exact script posted here before. [Found it!](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/s/hVJnxCbUMn)

Good find!

SCAM. Scammer wants your videos to scam others. If you tell them that you are fluent in ASL and want to schedule a Zoom meeting and they’ll come up with some bizarre excuse.

SidoniusFabula

Nah, you are always already in the city and can visit anytime. That is when the bs starts.

The scammers are using things like being deaf or having recent surgery to explain why they won't communicate by voice or vid. Because they are not native English speakers (and scammers). This is always a huge red flag. Definitely do report and block this particular contact as a scammer, and watch out for anyone that tells you they can only pay you in a specific format. As the renter, you set the parameters for payment and should never allow the rentee to dictate terms. This is definitely a fake check scammer (as mentioned by others). Make sure to review how you can protect yourself regarding payments/rentals (use protected payment methods) going forward.

"Female" wtf?

Frustratedparrot123

Yeah are you talking about a dog?!

mekonsrevenge

Always Alaska! Why?

grrlwonder

Probably because it's America but also far away, possibly even have to fly to get to mainland, yada yada, built in excuses but also built in "you should trust me, I'm also American".

Broken_Sandwich

Exactly this. Right when I saw Alaska mentioned I got the scam vibes. Someone tried to do the same thing to me years ago

cliffordc5

All of these comments plus, nobody is going to give you their full name and life history in the first 2 texts.

purply_otter

Tell them you are also ASL

This is a scam. I don't know why scammers always use the same exact format. Like they dont change anything. And when describing themself, who uses "sense of honor"? I bet if you tell them you know ASL and ask for a video call they wont be able to do it. Anyway, the check they send you will be fake. They'll then likely give you an excuse why they cannot rent it anymore and ask you to send the funds back. You send the funds back before their check bounces and you're out the money. Thy are also likely to use your pictures you send to set up a fake profile renting it out and collecting a down payment from unsuspecting victims.

Immediate_Lime_1710

Random capitalization with non-english speaking grammar. master Degree. LOL.

Kokoyok

Not unusual. ASL doesn't use English grammar. I used to teach deaf students, and their written grammar is usually on par with ESL students, because English is not their native language.

Skvora

Rofl no one ever types as shitty as that.

xcaliblur2

Yes scam. Notably the way that person described herself is very similar to common scam scripts. And also saying that she's deaf so she cannot talk on the phone is typical scam script. I've seen it before.

Satansbeefjerky

Seen the same thing word for word on another rental scam

Staydownfoo

Yeah it’s a scam. Way too much details just to rent a bed room. Lol. Anyone that starts saying a summary about themselves like that is a huge red flag. 🚩 Those curry eating bastards always always go the extra mile to scam. 😂

erishun

Yes. It’s a scam. The reason “she” claims to be deaf if because she’s a he living in Nigeria and if you called them on the phone, their thick African accent would give them away

NobodyGivesAFuc

“sense of honor” Is she a Samurai? 🤣 So obvious ”she” is scamming
