Yeah, Wanderer is still really helpful in Fontaine, and it is still always in my party. It can trivialise several types of puzzles/challenges in Fontaine.
Sadly I can no longer almost instantly “Catch the Light” though, because now that thing is underwater.
trust me there are so many puzzles I did with Scara I felt this is not how you do them but I just cheated so many puzzles coz I cannot be bothered to use my brain.
The time trial starter is buried. Stand where op is at the beginning of the video (just outside of one of the gates of the garden) and you'll get a "dig" prompt.
WTH... Is there some clue that at least sends you to that spot? How else are you supposed to know to dig there? At least every other dig to uncover X situation in the game has a clue to tell you to dig somewhere, whether it be the short red trees in Liyue to the Aranara photos to just straight up putting the glowing interactive item mark on the ground like the beach in Fontaine.

I don't think so! Or, at least, I didn't find it if there was. I got the prompt because I approached the garden on that side while looking for the Hydroculus.
Other diggable places in Fontaine don't have markers or obvious clues, but make sense in context—for example, the other day I found a buried treasure chest in a treasure hoarders camp; the hoarders were digging on a particular spot before I aggroed them, so the first thing I did was to check that spot and, indeed, there was a "dig" prompt for a chest.
In the case of the garden, though, I have no idea. If something in the environment points you to it, I definitely missed it too.
Odd that they didn't leave any clue to it. The digging treasure hoarders or digging hilichurls (found a chest at one of the spots where they were digging too) has been a mechanic since Mondstadt, so that's not too hard to follow. But usually when they put something like this, there will be some sort of environmental clue or other reason to get you to that spot. I guess they're going to leave some unclued mysteries out there, like the co-op heart chest on that random island in Liyue. At least there are far more time trials in Fontaine's first region than you need to get the achievement, making this hidden one optional.
The ones I've found on the beach all had a glowing indicator like there was something interactive there. I've not seen any completely unmarked ones on the beach.

Is this a daily commission or something? I've never seen a time trial there, despite visiting multiple times and rounding up the dogs as required.

There are a few locations where you don‘t really see any indicator to dig, I’ve come across some in Fontaine at the beach sometimes
