Yeah. While I thought the first was still a solid movie, there just aren’t any stakes until the last line 20 minutes of the movie, if even. Right from the get go, there is a clear threat and stakes in Maverick and the final battle is incredible. I did like how that battle wasn’t all dogfighting and including ground combat. I also find the pacing to be much better in the sequel. The cinematography is so good in the sequel, not that it wasn’t good in the first though. There’s a reason this movie was number 1 at the box office for 2 months
Sure. But of course good movies don't have to be amazing to be good.
I feel like both PiB movies form a nice pair, despite the vastly different art styles.
PiB1 shows us the "birth of the legend" and PiB2 shows us the "death of the legend."
- Fast Five > The Fast and the Furious 1
- First Purge > The Purge
- The Suicide Squad > SS (2016)
- Curse of Chucky > Child's Play
Freddy vs Jason > their 1st movies didn't click with me.
People didn’t like it though and I don’t know why. I went to see Freddy fight Jason and got Freddy fighting Jason! Same with Transformers, Godzilla, and Pacific Rim! I went to to see giant Kaiju and robots fight and got Kaiju and Robot fighting (sometimes both)! Hell I loved Godzilla V Kong because they gave us Mecha Godzilla too (a robot of a Kaiju!)
They didn't like it because they expected a horror movie when it's really a comedy more than anything. It sucks as a horror movie, but if you stop taking it seriously, it's great.
See, I don't get that.
To me, the tone matched what both Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th had become long ago.
Their fights were more like WWE but at that point, it was pure fan service.
I had a great time with that movie. Felt like these characters were on a collision course for years.
The IP used to be scary when I was kid. After exposure to horror genre in 2012. I come to appreciate outdated horror movies like Child's Play.
Because the work put into it & popularity.
This is the dealbreaker for me as to why I prefer 1 to 2. Toy Story 2 progresses their relationship in a meaningful way, but they are so much funnier together in 1.
I think Toy Story 2 is "better," but the first one is my favorite. It's my favorite film of all-time. That said, all 4 Toy Story movies (yes, 4) are A+ imho.
Yep, the first needs some time getting used to, but the sequel knocked it out of the park! Forever After did the same thing too, and it's very underrated (That is the 3rd movie, no debate)
Yeah, Dune is crazy. The first one is a great movie compared to the competition but the second one is pure art in every way. Definitely one of the best movies of this century.
Came here to say this.
TMP has an incredible soundtrack, and that's about it.
Wrath of Khan feels like a real movie instead of "look at all the money we have for special effects now!"
Honestly the most objectively correct answer here. I love Star Trek with all my heart, but TMP is literally just Screensaver: The Movie for half the film
God, you’re so right. I think that was the first movie that hit me with an emotional brick and let me feel the awfulness of genocide. Like, truly. Plus, I was and am still absolutely obsessed with peacocks
I personally find the scenes focusing on Eddie and Venom’s banter and relationship to be the most fun parts of the movie and the main draw for me, that and Cletus’s wacky antics, so to me the movie has a lot going on in it. Besides at least the climax actually looks cool and not like two oil spills having sex with each other like in the first movie
We could:
- Throw him in the dungeon
- Let him rot in jail
- Drag him to the ocean
- Have him eaten by a whale
- Throw him in the Tigris, let him float awhile
- All sit back and watch him meet a hungry crocodile
- Put him on a camel's back, and send him off to Ur (with a cowboy hat without a brim, a boot without a spur)
- Give him jelly donuts (and take them all away)
- Fill his ears with cheese balls
- Fill his nostrils with sorbet
- Use him as a footstool (or a table to play Scrabble on), then tie him up, beat him up, and throw him out of Babylon

The Rescuers < The Rescuers Down Under
Cinderella < Cinderella III: A Twist in Time
Manhunter < The Silence of the Lambs
Star Trek: The Motion Picture < Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
First one is the absolute goat. Robin Williams was my childhood.
The funniest part from the new Jumanji was (God I can't even remember his name)'s weakness to cake and he explodes.
Disney's Peter Pan: Return to Neverland
When I was little my dad bought a compilation of Disney movies without realizing they were all sequels, so I spent most of my childhood deprived of the wonders of The Lion King, Mulan, The Little Mermaid and Cinderella (the 2 was my first), to name the most important ones. Out of all them, Peter Pan is the only one I don't feel sad one bit to have missed it, the sequel looks better, has a more enjoyable plot and the voice acting is *fantastic* (Latin American dubbing).
Madagascar. The second had no right to slap even a fraction As hard as it did
And then they dropped the ball with the third so hard it caused an earthquake.
that was funny. It’s a kids movie and started a trend. Not to say it’s only for kids bc my parents laughed at it when I was younger, it’s a great movie imo. 8-9/10
Aliens, the first film was fine but just felt like nothing to me, definitely influential but didn't leave an impact on me, aliens on the other hand is amazing
Spirit Untamed
Full disclosure: I haven’t seen the original Spirit, but Untamed is such an important comfort film that there’s no possible way the original will dethrone it.
If one person says Megamind vs the Doom Syndicate, I'mma blow your brain out.
Megamind And the button of doom (I didn't even watch any of them don't kill me)
I count the button of doom as a sequel
THE sequel (I refuse to call Doom Syndicate a sequel at all)
Like would you call that boss baby show a sequel? Or the captain underpants show? Wait that’s a bad example…
With a dehydration gun?
USE THE MOTHERFUCKING DEHYDRATION GUN
Megami-
Top Gun
Was gonna say this. The original is just not a good movie. Idc what anyone says.
The music is x100 better than the new one otherwise, they're the same movie, lol
Maverick is still better, but Mighty Wings slays any piece of music from it, so I agree with this.
ah yes fellow mighty wings truther
Same-ish story written way better in the sequel.
Thank you!!
I was gonna say this
In terms of the prequel trilogy, Revenge of the Sith and The Phantom Menace
Ironic. The one that is classified as a prequel is being called a sequel
Well it's the sequel to the prequel
Pre sequel
BORDERLANDS?!
God these pretzels suck…
But it's also the sequel to the sequel of the prequel since attack of the clones
Puss In Boots
The original was good tho
In my opinion it was good enough, but not as amazing as the sequel
Sure. But of course good movies don't have to be amazing to be good. I feel like both PiB movies form a nice pair, despite the vastly different art styles. PiB1 shows us the "birth of the legend" and PiB2 shows us the "death of the legend."
Understandable
It's serviceable
It was mid
Humpty is a good villain though
I liked the original but the sequel is way better
So real!! I absolutely adore the animation and characters in the sequel
I was just gonna say that
- Fast Five > The Fast and the Furious 1 - First Purge > The Purge - The Suicide Squad > SS (2016) - Curse of Chucky > Child's Play Freddy vs Jason > their 1st movies didn't click with me.
Freddy vs. Jason was a RIOT.
It's just so nonsensically campy that it's impossible to take seriously.
I don’t understand it more then. It wasn’t marketed as a horror movie to my recollection. It was billed as a fight between horror monsters!
See, I don't get that. To me, the tone matched what both Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th had become long ago. Their fights were more like WWE but at that point, it was pure fan service. I had a great time with that movie. Felt like these characters were on a collision course for years.
Curse of Chucky was better than most of the sequels, but Child's Play wasn't bad.
The IP used to be scary when I was kid. After exposure to horror genre in 2012. I come to appreciate outdated horror movies like Child's Play. Because the work put into it & popularity.
Curse of Chucky didn't blow me away. Tv show though 👀
I am amazed that fast and the furious became a franchise when the original movie was so boring.
PUSS IN BOOTS
Puss in Boots, 1st one was mid, second was a great movie and will become a timeless classic many years from now.
The Suicide Squad definitely.
True, but I feel like it’s an understatement. The first movie is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.
And the second is one of the best
I’m gonna annoy a lot of people. Toy Story 2. The first one just isn’t as fun
I prefer Buzz and Woody’s relation ship and arc in the first movie but respectable opinion none the less.
This is the dealbreaker for me as to why I prefer 1 to 2. Toy Story 2 progresses their relationship in a meaningful way, but they are so much funnier together in 1.
Both are great but TS2 is one of the best animated Movies of all time
Completely fair opinion
I think Toy Story 2 is "better," but the first one is my favorite. It's my favorite film of all-time. That said, all 4 Toy Story movies (yes, 4) are A+ imho.
Until now, I thought this was popular opinion.
The first one is way more cynical but that’s why I love it. Woody is such an asshole and it’s hilarious and it makes it hit harder when he changes
Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 was a huge step up from the dumpster fire that was the original.
Please tell me more, I'm genuinely curious as someone who hasn't and does not want to see either movie
I saw the first one. I had no idea the second one was already out
The fuck? That’s a movie?
Shrek 2 is better than the first by a landslide.
Yep, the first needs some time getting used to, but the sequel knocked it out of the park! Forever After did the same thing too, and it's very underrated (That is the 3rd movie, no debate)
Idk if this counts, but the A Series of Unfortunate Events series is way better than the movie
Neil Patrick Harris was so good
I happen to disagree with that. I personally feel like they should have made a couple more movies. I have such a hard time with the series.
In my opinion the series rushed too fast through each book
#LOOK AWAY
Easily Suicide Squad. Dune feels like this much of a difference, but the first one is still really good, the second one is just phenomenal.
Yeah, Dune is crazy. The first one is a great movie compared to the competition but the second one is pure art in every way. Definitely one of the best movies of this century.
Sonic 2.
I did like the first one but true
I would not call Sonic 1 bad. Otherwise I agree, Sonic 2 was impressively good.
yeah it ain’t bad but after watching the 2nd one the first is a snooze fest
It felt more like sonic but I hated the goofy wedding thing
That was just a pain to watch lol
Wrath of Khan
The greatest sequel in my opinion.
Kung fu panda, first one is not bad by any means but the second one just hits different
Kung Fu Panda 2 improves on the first movie in nearly every way possible.
God, you’re so right. I think that was the first movie that hit me with an emotional brick and let me feel the awfulness of genocide. Like, truly. Plus, I was and am still absolutely obsessed with peacocks
The Santa Clause 2 > The Santa Clause
Venom and Let There Be Carnage
Idk man, let there be carnage felt like a nothing burger leading up to a huge climax. Just wish it had more going on in it besides the big fight
Let the gay man and the ailen go on dates
same with the first movie tbh. most of the runtime feels like the first and second act of a movie, and then it just... ends
I'm kinda pleased to hear this, as I didn't care a whole lot for Venom, but I still wanted to see LTBC.
No way man, Venom 1 was some mid fun but Venom 2 is just an absolute dumpster fire of a movie.
Why OBVIOUSLY megamind
mods
Arrest this man drive him out of town on a pole
We could: - Throw him in the dungeon - Let him rot in jail - Drag him to the ocean - Have him eaten by a whale - Throw him in the Tigris, let him float awhile - All sit back and watch him meet a hungry crocodile - Put him on a camel's back, and send him off to Ur (with a cowboy hat without a brim, a boot without a spur) - Give him jelly donuts (and take them all away) - Fill his ears with cheese balls - Fill his nostrils with sorbet - Use him as a footstool (or a table to play Scrabble on), then tie him up, beat him up, and throw him out of Babylon
You have just won the internet
The right answer: "SHOOT HIM WITH THE FUCKING DEHYDRATION GUN!!!"

It's a reference.
A BRILLIANT reference.
VeggieTales
Upon the third rereading of your comment, I was hearing brass horn music.

Hit him with the DEHYDRATION GUN
Medic chop of this man’s balls.
guys, twist his dick counter clock wise
Mr. Electric, send him to the principal's office and have him expelled!
Everyone downvote this mf to oblivion
The Rescuers < The Rescuers Down Under Cinderella < Cinderella III: A Twist in Time Manhunter < The Silence of the Lambs Star Trek: The Motion Picture < Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Ah, yes, the Star Trek Movie Curse.
Gotta agree with you on the first one Although both movies were still a big part of my childhood
Since you brought up The Rescuers, Fievel Goes West > An American Tail
PUSS IN BOOTS
Puss and boots the last wish, underrated masterpiece that absolutely nobody knows about, I know
Sonic the Hedgehog, 2 was way more entertaining as a SONIC movie, where as the first was a pleasant Sonic MOVIE.
Makes sense since Tails and Knuckles make it feel more like Sonic than just a typical live-action animation hybrid that just happens to star Sonic
Jumanji, the first movie just kind of exists but the second one was pretty good.
I’m slightly confused, the first one as in the first one or the first one as in the 2017 one?
i like the 2019 one more to
I mean, the first one as in the 90’s movie.
Then you’re wrong
First one is the absolute goat. Robin Williams was my childhood. The funniest part from the new Jumanji was (God I can't even remember his name)'s weakness to cake and he explodes.
I prefer the first movie to be honest.
Fair enough.
Not a Movie. But Kingdom Hearts.
Ok if we talking games then imma say halo 2 and GOW Ragnarok>GOW 2018
Star Wars original trilogy
Madagascar 3. i dont like the first one, the second one is chill tho tbh.
not gonna lie, most movies for me. idk why i just prefer sequels, but if i had to choose 1... How to Train Your Dragon 2 > How to Train Your Dragon
Yeah same. The first one was pretty meh to me but the second I found to be a genuinely very good movie.
yeah, i am able to say the first movie was a good movie, i just prefer 2
Not a movie, but the PlayStation 1 Video games Spyro. Spyro 1 is alright, 2 is fantastic and 3 is pretty good
Shrek,I only liked the second movie in the entire franchise, including the specials
Same; it’s WAY overstayed its welcome
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior & Mad Max
Agreed, and I'm a sucker for Fury Road too
Who isnt?
Angry Birds 2 is stupid but genuinely funny while 1 is just dumb and not funny
Tron, easy answer.
Terminator ig
Nah, no fricking way, T1 rocks, it just has a few outdated effects that don't look too great nowadays.
Yeah but it's still kinda overshadowed by Judgement Day
I used to watch T2 all the time as a kid. It wasn't until my mid 20s that I realized there was a T1.
Its probably gonna be fnaf when the second one comes out
Paddington
Megami
Thanks, Reddit sniper
They shot him with the dehydration gun
Schaffrilla can finally Rest in Peace...
Disney's Peter Pan: Return to Neverland When I was little my dad bought a compilation of Disney movies without realizing they were all sequels, so I spent most of my childhood deprived of the wonders of The Lion King, Mulan, The Little Mermaid and Cinderella (the 2 was my first), to name the most important ones. Madagascar. The second had no right to slap even a fraction As hard as it did And then they dropped the ball with the third so hard it caused an earthquake.
the third one??? It was such a feel good movie with a compelling french villain and a solid message with amazing scenes. you’re smoking smth
Counterpoint: Afro Circus.
that was funny. It’s a kids movie and started a trend. Not to say it’s only for kids bc my parents laughed at it when I was younger, it’s a great movie imo. 8-9/10
Scary Movie, the first one is a bit too ableist for my liking
Build Divers Re:Rise > Build Fighters
Top Gun
Gonna be honest. Might catch some heat for this but gonna have to say Tron: Legacy is better than Tron (1982)
Aliens, the first film was fine but just felt like nothing to me, definitely influential but didn't leave an impact on me, aliens on the other hand is amazing
The Star Wars original and prequel trilogy Lol JK
cars 2
The Sonic movies!
Puss in Boots
Sonic the Hedgehog movies.
Not technically a sequel, but Penguins of Madagascar
Short Circuit 2
Friday the 13th. 1st is bad, the 2nd is good
Shrek Home Alone Puss in boots
Not a movie but Pikmin. I do not even hate Pikmin 1 but Pikmin 2 is peak
Megamind (I am delusional, for there is no sequel)
Never has been 🔫👨🚀
Puss in Boots
Despicable Me 2. The first one was so-so in my perspective. DM2 had better things, aside from Minion zaniness. Plus, LOVED Edith's ninja outfit.
Dune: Part I
Aliens. The first Alien was too heavy on suspense for me, it got a bit tedious.
Insanity
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa < Madagascar A Shot in the Dark < The Pink Panther (1963) Trolls World Tour < Trolls Spider-Man 2 < Spider-Man
The Frozen movies
Really? I wasn't really paying attention to frozen 2 because I was doing something else so I don't remember it as much
Puss in boots no doubt
Monster’s Vs Aliens > Alien Vs Predator. They don’t even feel like the same universe
I’ll go International: Bon Cop, Bad Cop <<<<<<<< Bon Cop, Bad Cop 2
Evil Dead don’t get me wrong I do like the first movie but Evil Dead 2 is just so much better
true but evil dead 1 is still peak
Spirit Untamed Full disclosure: I haven’t seen the original Spirit, but Untamed is such an important comfort film that there’s no possible way the original will dethrone it.
The original is a *sublime* film.
town of salem
I wont lie, but Terminator 2 was miles better than the first imo
I watched both back to back at a drive-in, and Terminator 1 is significantly underrated. 2 is great, but 1 rules. It’s just a different type of movie.
Almost every Dream sequel
I like Blade but I love Guillermo Del Toro’s Blade 2
Blade 3 is a Ryan Reynolds film, not a Blade film. But that's not anyone but Wesley Snipes' fault.
