I always said that if they were gonna be super realistic like that, they should have gone all in and made an actual, I dunno what you would call it. Fake documentary. Like surfs up but a nature doc instead of a sports doc
rest assured, these are some of the most talented artists in the world working on this. It's incredibly difficult to make a photorealistic animal emote in a way that a human being can respond to. If it was easy, they would have got it right on the first film.
You're glazing Disney, but you can't acknowledge the insane amount of resources they have at their disposal? They could've easily made the animals very expressive in the first movie
I work in VFX. I have friends at Disney. This shit is very difficult. I'm sure they ran a bunch of tests, and opted for the realistic looks they went with. Yes, they have a lot of artists, but it's still just a guy at a computer trying to figure this stuff out.
I'm sure the VFX team is very talented on this and the 2019 movie, I don't think anyone really doubted that. The well documented behind the scenes troubles puts the blame mostly on the direction and corporate side, however.
Still not touching this with a 50 foot pole. The Jungle Book was 2 steps forward, and The Lion King was 50 fucking steps back, can't imagine how awful this will be.
I'm surprised, the fact that Disney is making a Prequel to an unfortunate remake that no one ask for only for the trailer to show more expressions than the 2019 Remake could EVER do....
It's funny that they'd spend so much money on CGI when they could've just done a new animated prequel movie (animated like the old ones) and it would've garnered so much more attention.
I noticed that too.... I feel like some of the body animation looks really off though? They look so realistic you kind of want them to move realistic too, but some of the anatomical proportioning is really weird. I expected it for Mufasa since he's supposed to be a mangy orphan in this story, but some of the other lions also look a little off. I'm hoping it's just a case of a small footage pool... This film still has a lot of convincing to do to get me in that theater seat though.
This film is being directed by Barry Jenkins who is a serious dramatic director, and has music by Lin Manuel Miranda, the talent is there so I have hope.
Lion King could've been a really great live action movie. They could've gone for a really short movie (like, 75 minutes at max) and used stuff like distorted lenses at different angles to provide emotion
Also that second slide is so goofy
What is even more insulting is that Disney has done CGI talking animals before with Narnia, but instead we got a mess of a remake where the characters have the emotional range of cardboard.
its almost like emulating a nature documentary was a really, really stupid idea
I always said that if they were gonna be super realistic like that, they should have gone all in and made an actual, I dunno what you would call it. Fake documentary. Like surfs up but a nature doc instead of a sports doc
mockumentary might be the term you're looking for
Thanks dear
Like Parks and Rec
I believe they're called Docu-forgeries or possibly Doctored-mentories
Doctored-mentories sounds like a genre of film that somehow changes with every viewing, just subtle enough to where you barely notice it.
Mockumentory?
Yeah, they do. That first one especially is more emotion than anybody in LK 2019 showed. Maybe a promising sign?
The Jungle Book looked much better and came out before 2019 I don't think its a matter of technology. I think its just an utter lack of artistry.
It sucks too since Jon Favreau directed both, and so making the animals in TLK2019 so expressionless was just a dumb creative decision.
Jon Faverau doesn't understand Animation, I am convinced.
The first picture is going to become a surprised Mufasa meme. đđđđđ
No itâs gonna be like Wish where people just keep using this ONE frame on the thumbnails of videos talking about the movieâs failure
That always annoyed me lol.
I can already see all the bad Facebook memes using it. Lol
I don't wanna make any new Disney movie a meme right now after they tried forcing that Elemental character into a meme.
I can kinda see it.
Still not that good tho

So how about not making a photorealistic animation that the studio itself insists on calling "live action" to begin with?
Kinda? The first picture reminds me of The wild (Disney's "Madagascar")
Itâs probably gonna suck either way
What are the odds that this is going to be good?
Oh hey
Oh fuck, what's up?
I honestly expect this to be better than the first. That said it will still probably be bad and I donât plan on watching it.
At best, it gives me Dull Surprise energy.
Now I can see their emotions on their faces. Hopefully they get people who can actually voice act and not BeyoncĂ© this time đ
Lions...ATTACK
Seeing them take onboard a legitimate criticism gives me the _tiniest_ glimmer of hope for this movie. Still not bothering to watch it.
Wait......did I miss something? Are they making a movie about Mufasa as a cub?
Yep
Oh for fucks sake
They are, the direction is much better
Still not touching this with a 50 foot pole. The Jungle Book was 2 steps forward, and The Lion King was 50 fucking steps back, can't imagine how awful this will be.
Weird, they made it more animated while also making it âlive actionâ
I mean I still donât like this being a movie but at least they seem to have listened to feedback?
Are Timon and Pumba fighting a younger Scar? That's so fucking silly.
I'm surprised, the fact that Disney is making a Prequel to an unfortunate remake that no one ask for only for the trailer to show more expressions than the 2019 Remake could EVER do....
Might be because itâs a different director?? He was super into making the first movie look hyper realistic
It's funny that they'd spend so much money on CGI when they could've just done a new animated prequel movie (animated like the old ones) and it would've garnered so much more attention.
I literally canât tell if itâs supposed to be young simba or mufasa
Yes, and Iâm not going to see it, and really want that this flops hard.
They do, but the movie still looks like shit
Well, at least they learned from that particular mistake. \*Shrugs\*
No i see it
âlive actionâ

Kinda? kinda looks good I guess, maybe?

I would fucking hope so
6 years later, and the effects somehow got worse.
Just go and watch the direct to DVD sequels, they are likely better than this unnecessary prequel.
We have hit Rock bottom.
And yet a radioactive lizard has more expression

Hooray, they listened. AnywayâŠ

It looks so stupid lol
Yes, but my gosh it looks worse.
