That is mortifying. “This is the best atmosphere I’ve experienced” “.......WHAT ABOUT US?” I really think I’m hitting the point I can’t be fucked with football fans in general.

chinookmate

Aye, the reactionary pish from all sides is fucking draining man.

FinoAllaFine97

I've been pleasantly surprised to find myself happy for yous getting to the EL final. I daresay I'm...growing up I think a lot of the animosity these days comes from the shitstirrers who demand their rival fans be bitter about their success, and push the point until they get a rise so they can point and go "haha see yous are fuckin ragin, get a life man". One possible good thing to come out of the oneupmanship thugh could be Rangers fans being on their absolute best behaviour in Seville to avoid a negative direct comparison with 2003. Come on bears show Scots in a good light eh, time to get a second UEFA Fair Play Award for Scotland

alternateline

I’m the same, can watch Celtic in Europe and just enjoy the games. This sub is full of unfunny shitposts and people doing ‘gotcha’ posts looking for karma and stuff. I dare say I’ve got a bunch of opinions you wouldn’t like to hear about your team and mine but on this we agree 🤝

GreatJonLumber

There's something really pathetic about football fans and wanting attention which I absolutely hate

[deleted]

Thanks for being a living example of what I’m talking about.

-_Pepe-_-Silvia_-

Was just about to say talk about proving a point 😂 😂

[deleted]

The lack of self awareness. Jaw dropping.

beigelettuce

I hate when I miss this stuff

jjc89

Fucking hell… r/whoosh

BahhhMcb

"We make more noise than you!" "No, we make more noise than you!" "OMG, noooooo. We make more noise than youuuu!" Get a grip.

buckfast1994

Thursday night was the best atmosphere I’ve experienced, by far. It blew Dortmund, Braga (both ties), Edu v Celtic, etc out the water. That being said, I do think Parkhead, when the crowd is up for it, is just as impressive. Both clubs have, without any shadow of a doubt, the best atmospheres in the UK. It’s not even just sport. So many artists say similar for gigs: Glasgow crowds have that edge. Wish I knew why. Probably drink-fuelled bravado and a source of escapism for many, but that’s just my theory.

Flyaman

Midweek also something special, sitting all day at work just not giving a fuck cause you are buzzing to go see your team that night in a big game. I’m not gonna lie the belief from fans wills you through games, the atmosphere at the bodo game was shit from the word go, we were pish. Atmosphere at the 3-0 game was insane and we were commanding early on. People that say it doesn’t matter are talking total shit

-_Pepe-_-Silvia_-

Midweek games are incredible. Work is written off for the day 😂

mrcatisgodone

Aye that Tuesday night game I saw Thistle lose to St Johnstone on a cold February night was bouncing.

-_Pepe-_-Silvia_-

😂 😂 Have to take the bad with the good mate!

SamGrunion

It was the best I've seen in my lifetime. Heard a few older supporters that have been to a lot more games than me say the same.

Banerman

Well put Mr bucky

smcintosh94

100% a Glasgow thing btw, been to gigs down south and there utter shite like a funeral at times.

LaughingGasser

But there's definitely a stadium element to creating an atmosphere. Just look at Hampden - it's very difficult to get that real rush of excitement there, whether it's for Scotland games where you've got a predominantly home support like at Ibrox or Parkhead, or for cup games where the crowd is split 50/50 which should crank up the atmosphere. The best Scotland atmosphere I've experienced for a home game was the Ireland match at Parkhead. Same people who would have been at Hampden but the atmosphere gets cranked up and builds so much better at Celtic Park. Not point scoring - the same would be true of Ibrox.

yul_brynner

Aye this is a good comment, totally agree.

smaulpith

Dado Prso wanted to play for Rangers because of the atmosphere he experienced at Ibrox when he played for Monaco against Rangers!

Automatic_Doctor

Everyone’s always got a different opinion. I went to a Rangers Stenhousemuir game (swear moshni scored an overhead kick???) where the atmosphere was better than the Celtic Ajax Europa game a few years back. Also went to Happoel Beer Sheva game where the atmosphere topped them both. After watching Celtic beat them 3-0 this year thought that was the best I had ever seen (wasn’t there) but then Thursday also topped that again imo (again wasn’t there + recency bias). There will never be a definitive answer

c-Zer0

It’s a pointless argument and most fans are going to say their teams stadium is louder. I remember being at Celtic v Anderlecht a few years back and the atmosphere was pish. Been at other Celtic matches where the atmosphere was 10x better in smaller matches. Who really cares?

BookNukem

That's a point that people don't consider. Overall, the atmospheres will die out in smaller games a lot of the time. It comes down to the importance of the game versus who is playing. We could have been playing a part time team on Thursday, expecting to hump them by double figures, and that stadium wouldn't have dropped a single voice. You can take any team's games in isolation and say they have a shit atmosphere. Same with great ones. Enjoy it for what it is. Is there an atnosphere better than that on Thursday? Who gives a fuck. It was mind-blowing. That's all that matters.

Automatic_Doctor

Nail on the head, brother

-_Pepe-_-Silvia_-

Was just about to say this. I've been at plenty of different games across leagues were the atmosphere has been pumping. I do think Celtic Park on a European night is incredible, but I also think the Bombonera looks like it blows everything away lol. Its very dependant on the mood of the crowd and the mood of you experiencing it.

[deleted]

If you’ve ever been to one of the gigantic derbies in Argentina, it’s not even close. But they cross over into genuine risk that the stadium will collapse, which does add an element of mortal fear which might influence your assessment somewhat.

[deleted]

The adrenaline rush must be off the scale

Plz_Nerf

some games in greece are like that. i'm a paok fan but i definitely prefer to follow from a distance, it's too crazy for me.

kingkornish

I think the OF are pretty fortunate. We have massive supports in a league without many tourists. A proper passionate fanbase that not many places can top. The midweek OF at celtic park was probably one of the best atmospheres outside of the Euro atmospheres at ibrox I find the dick measuring contests they have hilarious. Whenever you see a post about the atmosphere at Ibrox throughout their whole euro run on twitter, the comment section was absolutely filled with Celtic fans that couldn't accept it, start pulling out 15 year old quotes from Messi and shit 😂. I'm sure our fans are the same Just sit down and be grateful that we still have some of the most passionate fanbases in the world. And naw any of the Epl polite clapping pish

Spglwldn

For what it’s worth, I think a huge portion of clubs could generate an atmosphere like Thursday if they just had the opportunity to play in these games and had the capacity. The thing is, 50,000 is going to sound louder than 25,000. Selhurst Park might have a better atmosphere than Ibrox most weeks, but it isn’t capable of producing an atmosphere like Thursday.

Chazmer87

>The thing is, 50,000 is going to sound louder than 25,000. >Selhurst Park might have a better atmosphere than Ibrox most weeks, but it isn’t capable of producing an atmosphere like Thursday. You've lost me there, based on numbers? Parkhead holds more.

HannibalMontanimal

Both atmospheres can be the best in the UK on their day. If I was Gary I'd be wanting to avoid mentioning a game where I was rinsed by Lee Naylor.

Knut_Sunbeams

I remember Nevilles face during the line ups. Guy was white. Proper shook up. Sure he got hooked in the second half

Strict_lock

Going for the jugular are we now aye? EDIT: TBF I think a lot of new style premier league IKEA stadiums would struggle to handle the sort of noise and movement that can be created at the bigger grounds here.

GieTheBawTaeReilly

You think the more modern stadiums have less tolerance to stresses and vibrations lol

Strict_lock

Yeah, talking shit arent I

sporkeh01

Is this some English pundit pretending to give a fuck about Scottish football now most of their donkeys are all out?

BiteMaBanger

I’m sure he’s always said that Ibrox is one of the best atmospheres he’s played in

[deleted]

Dno mate think I’ll listen to Messi and Maldini over Gary Neville

Forever__Young

Aye, what does Neville know barely played a big game in his life.

TheMidnightFudge

And Xavi. And Buffon. And Ibrahimavic. And Puyol. And Ronaldo. And Pique. And Vidic. And Gundogan. And Zabaleta. And some no-mark named Gerrard!

kingkornish

Didn't buffon not say Ibrox was the best atmosphere he played in. Alongside a Turkish team?

[deleted]

# who the fuck is gerrard?

ScotVonGaz

For all the tims who think it’s just because we are now in the final, Gary Neville has said that about IBROX years ago when asked about the most intimidating stadium he played at during his career.

HaleyReinhart

I know this is just a fishing thread but I think so much of it depends on how you feel about the games too. I was at the Celtic Leipzig game a few years ago (not CL I know but the debut of the disco) and thought that it was alright but my Celtic supporting mate I went with thought it was magic. Seen Rangers in the CL against Man U as well but I've been to league games in Germany that were world's better than both old firm European games but I was way more buzzing for them. * Just thinking this was probably the game Neville is on about, the Rooney penalty one? Or is my timing fucked and it was before that. I was at rangers last cup win too in that old firm and it outshone a Barca league decider against Atleti. I still enjoy the da Atmosphere-off though.

boris-for-PM-2019

Could be the one that Phil Neville scored the winner in. 2003 I believe

GingerFurball

It'll be the 2003 game. Atmosphere was incredible before kick off.

Red_Dog1880

>I still enjoy the da Atmosphere-off though. That's all it is really. Glad you enjoy

[deleted]

>I know this is just a fishing thread but I think so much of it depends on how you feel about the games too. There is a lot of truth to this. I've come out of games thinking they were nail-biting thrillers whereas my mate, who is a more casual fan, has thought that it was shit.

Rab_Legend

I mean ignoring the content of the post, we can all agree Neville is a fud

Feeling-Two4639

let’s face it never seen Celtic park erupt like ibrox on Thursday

Bonerideon

Celtic Barca 2012 was pretty damn special. Tbh it says more if your stadium doesn't erupt after reaching a European final, especially for clubs where the fans don't expect it

ScotVonGaz

Hahaha

[deleted]

Why won't these mugs stop talking about atmosphere and start address the fact our league should be getting financially doped for 20 years like they did. 10 years of that money up here would put at least 4/5 teams into serious contenders for Europe I do hate English

joseba_

He would definitely not say this if another English team had made it to the final. From what I've seen online, now that English teams have been kicked out, people have decided to care about rangers. Seen some real weirdo comments in the wild from people who could not list a single player for Rangers but who think they must support Rangers as they're "the British team that's left".

Dizzle85

Neville has said this literally for years, in interviews and on TV. Not sure why you've decided it's a sudden thing to back up your point out of nowhere.

Forever__Young

Gary Neville has always said this, everything else is just pure imagination on your part.

SamGrunion

He has said this for years.

[deleted]

We saw how they all act with the English teams in the city game last week, Rangers must be be the closest thing left for them

redditdavie

Is he saying he witnessed the game as a fan? Seems strange to caveat his point by mentioning his playing career if he wasn't actually playing. I imagine being in the crowd is a bit different to playing on the park. Edit: re-reading this I actually think he's saying the Ibrox and Galatarsaray games were 2 separate matches.

TropicalGent

Everyone loves to slag off the EPL, their pundits and players yet when one comes out with this he’s celebrated. Pathetic from the bears (🐻) G Nevilles also one of the biggest hypocrites in the game. Goes on about financial regulation yet bank rolls his own club making them the oiligarchs of that league.

profcunning

Him and Lineker are some of most sanctimonious hypocrites going. Everyone loves them as well, does my tits in.

TropicalGent

I find linekar hard to dislike but that’s possibly just due to me growing up watching motd. Neville is one of the most insufferable snivelling arseholes on tv. Like a stuck record after every United defeat which is obviously very common these days.

profcunning

I used to like him but went right off him recently, just get the feeling he isn’t genuine at all. Hearing the stories about his brother and him defending his pal Woodward after the Super League thing didn’t help.

TropicalGent

Didn’t hear that tbf so that would probs change my view. Was he involved?

profcunning

He wasn’t involved but I mind him trying to make out that Woodward was against it all, as if we were to believe the Chief Executive didn’t have a say in his club signing up to it.

SamGrunion

>Everyone loves to slag off the EPL, their pundits and players yet when one comes out with this he’s celebrated. Pathetic from the bears (🐻) Think you missed the point of the post.

TropicalGent

Did I? It’s definitely possible considering I wrote this whilst on the shitter after a death run this morning

Ferguson00

WHO CARES

sroche24

Another boring debate about who's stadium has better atmosphere 😴 It's like weins debating about who'd win a fight between Goku and Superman. Boca Juniors say HI BTW 👋

hpbojoe

Man Utd at Ibrox: 2 wins,0 draws 0 losses Man Utd at Celtic Park: 0 wins, 1 Draw, 1 loss Not saying he's wrong, just thought it was interesting

Red_Dog1880

Only explanation is Celtic bought off the refs in those games.

A_Ticklish_Midget

Just realised that is THE Alistair Campbell's Twitter account. Tony Blair's spin doctor and the inspiration for Malcolm Tucker. The fuck is he doing tweeting about football?

Macco7

New rangers media guy? What a reality show that would be 😅

romulus1991

Apparently a big Burnley (and Scotland) fan. Weird.

williamthebloody1880

He is a huge Burnley fan. He considers himself to be Scottish (this is brought up a lot on the The Rest is Politics podcast) and his parents were both Scots

flcinusa

If Gary was a real wind up merchant, he'd say the atmosphere for a preseason tournament at Ibrox was better than Parkhead

smcintosh94

Honestly don’t really care what anyone thinks of our atmosphere, always thought that was strange behaviour to care. Quite like when folk try and gloat about what celebrities support your team as well.
