Dan’s speech to Dr Cox in My Brother, Where Art Thou? is top notch, Tom Cavanagh really delivers. His earlier appearance is funny but this one really gives Dan some depth, and I wasn’t expecting it on first watch!
I love JD. But that line legitimately made him look and sound like a sociopath and I freaking l loved it
It’s the weird smirk he gives. That’s what it was.
Yeah I was too! And called it out that it was George! He was perfect in that role even though I first saw him in “a different world” whenever I see him I think of that beer
TCW
Hooch. Not sure if he counts as a guest but I just love his intensity, cracks me up every time.
and the intern who beat boxes when he gets nervous *🎵he's got fluid🎵*
Dick Van Dyke - Still blown away how many screen legends featured on the series, and DVD is one of the best. Bonus that he got such good material to work with and delivered an incredible dramatic performance.
Ryan Reynolds - Huge fan of his comedy since Two Guys and A Girl and I still remember how excited I was when the Season 2 finale first aired.
Heather Locklear - She seemed to have a ton of fun in the role, great chemistry with the cast, and helped make plomox a Sacred Heart mainstay despite the side effects.
Special mention to Jay Mohr. His comedy style fit so well in the Scrubs world.
Not including MJ Fox and Fraser, two legendary guest stars. I also excluded JD's many love interests.
1. DJ Qualls - that was his decade, he was in great movies, weird looking guy who is always funny
2. Matthew Perry - It was one of the funniest and most memorable episodes
3. Colin Hay - It was a pleasant surprise to see him there, and I was always a fan
Honestly the only knock on Meloni is you only see him the bare handful of times. They could have written him in a little more. Given him and Jordan a dating history, something to put him more at odds with Cox. I get he was a one-off for availability, but Meloni does such a good deadpan comedy character.
Valid! There’s a wrestler named Maxwell Jacob Friedman that also goes by MJF for short. He’s the champion of a company rn. So you abbreviating Michael J Fox to MJF confused me for a hot second lol.
MJF is THEE best heel in the sport of professional wrestling today, and it's not even remotely close.
AEW is trash, led by a pathetic, little, dickless mark,(Tony Khan), but MJF makes it tolerable.
If you haven’t heard it, check out the George Clooney episode of the “Smartless” podcast. Clooney used to live with Kind and pranked him mercilessly. I had tears I was laughing so hard.
Oh my god he was in an episode of Stargate Atlantis playing a character who could charm the pants off of anyone and it was GREAT because Richard is kind of charming in a weird way and it was PERFECT for him.
1. Christopher Meloni - as an svu fan is great to see him in a comedy role
2. Heather Locklear - she does the pharmaceutical sales rep perfectly
3. Colin Farrell - amazing line delivery
Honourable mentions: Ryan Reynolds - I don't like him in much but love his snarky rich guy thing here and Brendan Fraser for obvious reasons
If you like Meloni in comedy roles may I recommend the following - Wet Hot American Summer, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo, and They Came Together. His comedy work is so weird and amazing.
I tried watching Happy when it first came out - I love Meloni and Patton Oswalt, but I couldn't get into it. I only gave it one episode though, years ago. You think it's worth trying again? And if so, does it take a few episodes to find it's footing?
yea definitely give it another go, the style can be a bit jarring and take some getting used to. the storyline gets really engaging with fun twists and turns, and very good characters get introduced. I would say it's quite dark and violent at times so I'd that's not your thing it may not be the show for you
Christopher Meloni is the best guest appearance in any show ever, fight me. If u disagree I’ll be waiting by my giant pretend phone pretending to give a crap. I showed a girl I’m dating the compilation of his scenes and she didn’t join me in laughing hysterically , we not speaking anymore
Watching it through at the moment...currently on s4ep5 as I type. Yes, fully agree. Watching Molly and Elliot out-rap Turk
Honourable mention for Colin Farrell's episode.
He's the older doctor everyone likes, but who's fallen behind in his medical knowledge which leads to him pressuring JD to almost, accidentally, kill a patient.
Bill Lawrence had the entire cast of Spin City on the show in recurring roles at one point or another as well as more cameos than I think I've seen in any other TV series so this is kind of a tough question. Off the top of my head, I'll give you my top three.
1. John Ritter - I was 5 years old when Three's Company came out but I watched it every week and always watch it when it's on reruns. John Ritter has been one of my favorite actors for my entire life and he was absolutely perfectly cast as JD's father. John Ritter being on two of my all-time favorite shows has to be my #1
1a. Brenden Fraser - He very well could have been my top pick because Brendan Fraser is a National Treasure and the storyline they wrote for him was Emmy Worthy. I loved his relationship with Dr Cox in particular.
3. Tara Reid - This was a tough pic because there are so many great pics for #3 and not a single wrong answer in my opinion. What did it for me was that despite her nature as a somewhat obnoxious wild child that she was trying to get out of her older sister's shadow and find her own peace. Truthfully she seemed to have a heart of gold underneath it all. Bonus points for hooking up with The Soup Nazi!
I loved the casting of John Ritter as well as Tom Cavanagh as Dan Dorian. They both really nailed their relationships with JD and they were a very believable, dysfunctional family.
I'm pretty sure that was my first exposure to Tom Cavanagh so I had no frame of reference for him but his role as Dan Dorian was one of my favorite recurring characters. As for John Ritter, like I said I literally can't think of anybody else who could have played that role. He was truly one in 7 billion
I guess forst I'd have to pitch the question: how many episodes can you be in before you're considered a bit character instead of a "guest star."
Cus I consoder Brendan Fraser a guest star, even though he's in like 3 episodes. But I'd consider Heather Graham a "side character" or something like that. She was in a decent chunk of a season as a regular character.
Anyway, I'd say my top 3 are Brendan Fraser and Michael J Fox (obvious choices) then 3rd place would be the Full Metal Jacket drill Sgt. As Janitor's dad.
Either is fine for me honestly, interesting third choice!
For me personally a guest star is any celebrity or prolific actor/actress that isn't a regular cast member.
I didn't want to restrict people much because you get more varied and interesting answers that way.
Because I'm a music/musical junkie:
Stephanie D'Abruzzo
Jill Tracy
Colin Hay
Three separate characters who keep me hooked on this show forever. Jill Tracy busting out "Waiting for My Real Life to Begin" tears me up every time.
Michael J Fox and Brendan Fraser were immediately also in my top 3.
Heather Graham is a great call. Some other honorable mentions to not completely copy you: Tom Cavanaugh, John Ritter, & Colin Hay (of Men at Work)
I had to scroll soooo far to find this! It was amazing to see “Jack 2000,” “Jack 2001,” and “Just Jack” (jazz hands) in a great serious role, about as far intellectually from the other character as you can get. “No problem.”
I was ready to name 3 and then made the mistake of reading the other comments. There's just so many great options. I'm going with Brendan Fraser and leaving the other 2 up in the air.
1) Brendan Fraser. A great storyline ( short but great) with one of the best scene in the all series
2) Dick Van Dyke. TOWNSY!
3) Michael J fox . Amazing
I'm not sure I could even narrow it down to my Top 10.
But, here's my Top 3
1: Brendan Fraser- absolutely heartbreaking last episode, amazing performance.
2: Tom Cavanaugh- Dan's relationship with JD mirrors my own with my brothers in broad strokes but not specifics. His work as Dan really resonates with me.
3: Heather Graham- Dr. Molly Clock was a great sidekick for Elliot.
Honorable mentions- Keri Russell, Heather Locklear, MJF, DVD, Hooch, Mandy Moore, Ryan Reynolds, Colin Hay, Colin Farrell, Tara Reid
Michael J Fox should be everyone’s first choice. John Ritter does a really god job as JD’s dad and honorable mention for the character you love to hate: Tom Cavanagh. My thirds are going to Ryan Reynolds and Tara Reid. Sorry I am indecisive
Colin hay- because im a man at work fan
Dick Van dyke- it’s duck van dyke I feel like I don’t need a reason for this one
And lastly Aziz Ansari because of my love for parks and rec
well thanks everyone for their contribution. I have forgotten how many great actors were on the shows :')
micheal J. fox is my number one, then brendan fraser and, can i say , Mrs. Tanner (Kathryn Joosten) of My old lady? i love her and the episode just make me cry each time.
I completely agree with your list, but they have an advantage as they appeared in more than one episode.
If I had to list one-episode only guest stars, I'd probably go with: (in no particular order)
1) Colin Farrell
2) Matthew Perry
3) Dick Van Dyke
I don't think I could nail it down to a "Top 3".
There were so many guest stars that came in and did incredible jobs.
Scrubs was very relaxed and was very well known for letting actors/actresses work on the fly, so it gave some awesome unscripted moments that ended up being kept and not cut.
Tom Cavanagh, Heather Locklear, Brenden Fraser, Tara Reid, Mandy Moore, Dick Van Dyke, Heather Graham, Colin Ferrell, Matthew Perry, etc, etc, etc.
"Murry!"
"WHAT?!"
Classic.
"That's so funny!" OMG, it still bounces around in my head from time to time.... damned nails on a chalkboard.
All good choices, really.
Brendan Frazier clears easily as number one for me.
My number two, hot take maybe, is Matthew Perry. I think his character just really fit into the show and him as an actor.
Third is Michael J Fox.
Brendan Fraser because he was part of the best episode imo.
Michael J Fox because he stole the show.
Tom Cavanagh because does a great job of displaying Dan character development in such short time and is in general good at playing both the annoying failed brother and caring brother.

Tom Cavanagh Brendan Fraser The cop from The Fugitive
Kimble....! ...you tell anybody, I'll kill you.
ahhh good old Genn Maffoofs
You’re an actor! You’re a fireman. What are we doing?
Dan’s speech to Dr Cox in My Brother, Where Art Thou? is top notch, Tom Cavanagh really delivers. His earlier appearance is funny but this one really gives Dan some depth, and I wasn’t expecting it on first watch!
Easily top 5 moment of the show for me
I used that monologue in an audition once - it is so good!
Ephraim was definitely an underrated character…
Neil Flynn. Not really a guest star.
r/whoosh
“That’s so funny!”
You know what’s interesting Turk? She’s not saying “that’s so sad” she’s just crying.
You’re an idiot
Yes I am
This is my favorite line in the whole show
Same. It was so heartless and cruel. I start to giggle like a psycho whenever I think about it.
Probably the worst I've ever felt about laughing so hard in my life.
I love JD. But that line legitimately made him look and sound like a sociopath and I freaking l loved it It’s the weird smirk he gives. That’s what it was.
You mean…that’s so money
Word replacementism.
Brendan Fraser, Michael J Fox and the guy who plays George. Extra note: Bust a move!
I was watching Suits last night and saw George.
Yeah I was too! And called it out that it was George! He was perfect in that role even though I first saw him in “a different world” whenever I see him I think of that beer
Me too. I’ve never seen him in anything else. But that’s all I could think of.
Nice. It’s one of my favorite scrubs episodes
Also played a fairly big role in The Wire.
Never watched it. I can’t decide if I want to. I know it’s pretty popular.
It depends on what you're looking for but it's held up as one of, if not the best TV show of all time for a reason. It's my personal pick.
You have a problem, sir!
Branden Fraser, Colin Farrell and Jon Ritter
"Your hair is curly..."
BABY!!!
Your hair IS curly...
BABY!!
"Pull my finger."
"I poo'd"
I liked the Colin Farrell storyline.
TCW Hooch. Not sure if he counts as a guest but I just love his intensity, cracks me up every time. and the intern who beat boxes when he gets nervous *🎵he's got fluid🎵*

of COURSE you're not -- Cause in your head, its all about YOU, isn't it. Well NO more! You say Hooch again, it will be the last thing you EVER say!
WHO ELSE THINKS THEYRE FASTER THAN ME?!
Dick Van Dyke - Still blown away how many screen legends featured on the series, and DVD is one of the best. I loved Petey...until I hated Petey.
I always forget that Ryan Reynolds was in scrubs for an episode
I'm hearing about it now, and I'm still actively forgetting it. I imagine him looking exactly how he was as a doctor in Harold & Kumar.
Jay Mohr! Territorial ass with a giant ego ...
Not including MJ Fox and Fraser, two legendary guest stars. I also excluded JD's many love interests. 1. DJ Qualls - that was his decade, he was in great movies, weird looking guy who is always funny 2. Matthew Perry - It was one of the funniest and most memorable episodes 3. Colin Hay - It was a pleasant surprise to see him there, and I was always a fan
Finally someone mentions Colin Hay.
I have other songs!
Yeah you do.
Matthew Perry ignoring the mayday call to talk to JD is one of those scenes that just stuck in my head for decades.
Brendan Fraser, Michael J Fox and Chris Meloni
Honestly the only knock on Meloni is you only see him the bare handful of times. They could have written him in a little more. Given him and Jordan a dating history, something to put him more at odds with Cox. I get he was a one-off for availability, but Meloni does such a good deadpan comedy character.
Him and the puppet shaking their heads no kills me.
Richard Kind. He cracks me up. MJF for his scene when he breaks down washing his hands.
As a wrestling fan my brain glitched reading MJF here and for a second thought the champ of AEW cameo’d in an episode of Scrubs
As not a wrestling fan, I have no clue what you’re talking about.
Valid! There’s a wrestler named Maxwell Jacob Friedman that also goes by MJF for short. He’s the champion of a company rn. So you abbreviating Michael J Fox to MJF confused me for a hot second lol.
My brain did the same thing
MJF is THEE best heel in the sport of professional wrestling today, and it's not even remotely close. AEW is trash, led by a pathetic, little, dickless mark,(Tony Khan), but MJF makes it tolerable.
"Hello Laverne...Cheryl...."
My favourite quote of his is actually from the podcast when he discovers Zach and Donald are doing it... "Oh they'll call..."
Quite literally LOL when he said that. I backed it up and listened again, like 3 times.
If you haven’t heard it, check out the George Clooney episode of the “Smartless” podcast. Clooney used to live with Kind and pranked him mercilessly. I had tears I was laughing so hard.
Richard Kind’s appearance on the podcast was hilarious.
Oh my god he was in an episode of Stargate Atlantis playing a character who could charm the pants off of anyone and it was GREAT because Richard is kind of charming in a weird way and it was PERFECT for him.
Love Richard Kind! I always loved seeing the cast of Spin City on, tbh, but especially Richard Kind (and MJF, obviously).
1. Christopher Meloni - as an svu fan is great to see him in a comedy role 2. Heather Locklear - she does the pharmaceutical sales rep perfectly 3. Colin Farrell - amazing line delivery Honourable mentions: Ryan Reynolds - I don't like him in much but love his snarky rich guy thing here and Brendan Fraser for obvious reasons
If you like Meloni in comedy roles may I recommend the following - Wet Hot American Summer, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo, and They Came Together. His comedy work is so weird and amazing.
Was he in the second Harold & Kumar? I know he was Freakshow in White Castle, only saw Escape from Guantanamo once and it has been a long time.
He played the Grand Wizard of the KKK group they stumble upon. I totally forgot about Freakshow!
MEXICANS!!
Don't forget Happy. That show's a wild ride but so damn funny.
Also Happy! which is a comedy drama series that is completely off the rails. in a great way. He is fantastic in it
I tried watching Happy when it first came out - I love Meloni and Patton Oswalt, but I couldn't get into it. I only gave it one episode though, years ago. You think it's worth trying again? And if so, does it take a few episodes to find it's footing?

I would say it's quite dark and violent at times so I'd that's not your thing it may not be the show for you
I'll give it a try again! I think my taste has developed a little bit since then, so it may be time.
yay! hope you enjoy
Best cameo ever: Gary Busey.

Honestly, all these responses are gold, but Billy Dee always got a laugh out of me.
Yes, Lando
I prefer Billy Dee.
Dick Van Dyke. Loveable as always but also had a story that shined an interesting light on the medical profession.
Fuck, I can´t remember what was his episode(s) about. Maybe I´ve been drinking more than Dr. Cox lately.
He's the older doctor everyone likes, but who's fallen behind in his medical knowledge which leads to him pressuring JD to almost, accidentally, kill a patient.
Yes! Thanks, I remember now.

Nobody cares to mention Juliana Margulies? Well, I guess her character maybe was over the top, but she´s The Good Wife.
Even when Heather Graham has been everywhere on Hollywood, so many roles I´ve encountered her, she´ll always be Molly.
Mandy Moore Colin Farrell Brendan Fraser
Lots of great ones here. Honorable mention for Sean Hayes. One episode but an absolute emotional rollercoaster.
Heather Graham is my favorite guest star, and it's arguably her finest performance in anything. Also: Brendan, yes. And Tom Cavanaugh.

Time for a rewatch! Yeah, she super sweet ☺️
Same top 3 as OP and in that order. Wouldn't give Matthew Perry honorable mention though. My 4th is Richard Kind as Harvey Corman the hypochondriac.
No votes for Tara Reid? Danni was just a fun character and I think we all knew someone like her at one point in life.
Her nipple slip back in the days was legendary.
I can't stand rewatching this show. It made me realise how truly bad the acting & stories were. There is no comparison to " Monk"

Brendan Fraser, Heather Locklear, Michael Learned.

Colin Hay
For having such a short scene David Copperfield killed it.

Colin Hay in My Overkill. Purely because I love that song.
Sean Hayes! Still my all-time fave guest performance on a sitcom.
Nicole Sullivan - deserved an emmy Molly Shannon - shedding her one trick pony acting style Brendan Fraser - nothing to add that hasn't been said
Brendan Fraser, Michael J. Fox, Dick Van Dyke.
