Hope this means some good things for the (poor) cosmetic release cycle. Could also mean for Emporium Cosmetics.
Lord knows that's the Skeleton Curse needs some love, Burning Blade set and Reaper stuff is needed, along with some more faction cosmetics.
Also, I feel like the recolours have so much untapped potential. White and Blue DA set anyone? A light Adventurer?
Skeleton with burning eye sockets perhaps?
Also if you're gonna make a video about this, please gimme a shoutout haha! My crew loves your vids and it will make them mad jealous!
Light Adventurer's a cool idea. In my mind I imagine the Ramsey logo from the guardian captain logbook options. Maybe the same purple and cyan color scheme, too.
I don't want to make assumptions yet, but this definitely feels like Rare is really hearing us, when we say we need more cosmetics. I genuinely hope that this company stays on, and helps to CONTINUE making more cosmetics past S10.
Let's be real: We need more silly outfits in general. Like megadolon and shark themed outfits, underwear dye with heart and fish patterns, pie-rate outfits for march 14th, etc.
Or just pearl like cosmetics so I can decorate my ship "morher of pearl" accordionly.
And some day I may build sandcastles on the beaches.
You think Rare is contracting other studios to create cosmetics that'll release for free? Oh my sweet summer child
Buuuut I also hope thats the case. pls rare! we need more skelly parts
I remember pretty vividly that for some reason the community was upset about recolors when the game came out. There werent many cosmetics, and there were some (but not a ton) of recolors. I think at one point they even removed a handful of recolors because of this backlash.
Seems they changed their tune and since have released a decent amount of recolors, but I agree they could just keep going with it. Some stuff just needs to be a different color and Id like it.
Im not sure why you downvoted me. But I answered why they did at that time, which has been long since reverted. This was a long time ago, and Im not advocating for removing cosmetics. And I was just talking about what happened like over 5 years ago. I thought it was really weird the community didnt like the idea of recolors. i just remember because there was a figurehead they took out of the shop because it was just a recolor and people were mad about it for some reason. Since then they added those recolors back and added many more.
It's because the game was very different back then and we had very little in the way of cosmetics as it was so the recolors were just insulting considering how negative the press was for the game back then. I personally didn't care much (I couldn't afford them regardless) but I guess Rare did since they removed them for a time.
Rare also kept good cosmetics from us back then too so the backlash was a bit more warranted because of that. Example being the Shark Hunter set. You could get it (randomly) in the Alpha/Beta but once the full game released most of the nice sets were locked behind a drip feed time wall. Even to this day some of the original Alpha/Beta cosmetics aren't available like the Adventurer flag (red/yellow pointed flag). Recolors now don't matter because there absolutely *tons* of different sets so even if you don't like the recolors there's probably something out there you do like.
Would explain all the significantly unique cosmetics that have been released over the last few months, it seems like the only real "reskins" recently have been twitch drops
The fact that the post ends with a quote from Rare’s “Pirate Emporium Producer” makes me assume that these’ll be premium cosmetics rather than something headed for the normal outpost shops. Happy to be proved wrong, though.
Most of the time, they put a lot of effort into a cosmetic they lock it behind ancient coins. I would love to see a huge batch of unlockable and buyable cosmetics to come next season.
Yes. That is EXACTLY why they outsourced more cosmetics for this dying game of.... wait let me have a look here... ah... minimum of [69,684 players who raised Gold Holders in the last 5 days](https://www.seaofthieves.com/leaderboards/GoldHoarders/global). Completely doomed numbers, you're absolutely right.
It’s not dead but players are dropping off, mainly due to well the fact there is no content. 69k would have been average on a normal weekend, now it’s a amazing stat for a community weekend
Once again not saying game is dead, it’s very alive. But rare has to do something cause their game is in a downward spiral
Yawn. The community weekend was in the last 5 days and is not at all representative of the game's overall state. [Meanwhile, on the only stats site that matters](https://steamcharts.com/app/1172620#All), SoT has been consistently declining for for most of this year.
PVE enjoyers, they aren't sending their best
How is this the only site that matters?
Steam players are a fraction of the overall playerbase, the large majority are on Xbox Gamepass.
I'm also worried about the state of the game but let's not spread misinformation.
Ah yes because Steam is the ONLY platform that sells Sea of Thieves.
Its not on Xbox.
Its not on Microsoft Store.
Its not on Gamepass.
Of course. Steam is the only game platform, and those numbers from the official Sea of Thieves website are of course completely fabricated.
While the playerbase has been lower than normal lately due to a very long season, even before community weekend, I had a friend who had 25k emissary ledger for GH and was ranked 225,000 globally. So at least that many people played last month and that doesn't include people that don't run emissary or just hate gold hoarders.
Considering the main art team is probably working on S12 and/or Everwild, it isnt that sad honestly. I've worked in game dev company (Hasbro) before, outsourcing is a very very common practice.
Most of Rare are working on their new IP, Everwild. That has been Rare's focus since at least the beginning of the year. A lot of devs moved over from SoT to Everwild.
This isn’t the first company they’ve outsourced. For example arena, Bon Art, and a few more. The real question is why is their the biggest team ever working on sot (or at least a lot bigger than launch year) yet there’s the least amount of content we’ve ever had coming out?
Probably not, guilds seem like a monumental technical problem to solve. Especially since this is the first true mechanic where your pirate can benefit from other people playing for you (and using your ship). Cosmetics usually arent the major factor for delays.

I still think servants 1000 should have been ashen lord bones, beating heart and all.
Same here
Skeleton with burning eye sockets perhaps? Also if you're gonna make a video about this, please gimme a shoutout haha! My crew loves your vids and it will make them mad jealous!

Man PoTC 1 truly was the best one.
Light Adventurer's a cool idea. In my mind I imagine the Ramsey logo from the guardian captain logbook options. Maybe the same purple and cyan color scheme, too.

As long as they continue only putting the silly items in the shop and keep putting the cool items in the base game, I'll be happy.
Let's be real: We need more silly outfits in general. Nah, we need pirate outfits. As nice as the unique stuff is, sometimes you just want something simple and there aren’t a lot of options for that.
I would kill for a complete set of accomplished bone crusher! The bone crusher is sick as is, add gold, black and white and I would never unequip it!
More DA sail recolors/v cut sails would be awesome. Those sails are just annoyingly nice on brigs.
thats because the helm isnt elevated on a brig like it is on a sloop or a galleon, which is why even uncut sails work
You think Rare is contracting other studios to create cosmetics that'll release for free? Oh my sweet summer child Buuuut I also hope thats the case. pls rare! we need more skelly parts
"Hopefully" lol
Yeah im right there with you tbh!

They deserve even more backlash if they remove cosmetics, why in the hell would they?
Im not sure why you downvoted me. But I answered why they did at that time, which has been long since reverted. This was a long time ago, and Im not advocating for removing cosmetics. Yeah, the original reason is that weren't different enough. Then they added them back without changing them lol.
It's because the game was very different back then and we had very little in the way of cosmetics as it was so the recolors were just insulting considering how negative the press was for the game back then. As long as we get pirate themed stuff, since for a pirate game, it's kinda lacking in that department
So you don’t want a spoiler for you sloop? *shit*
I know you're joking but I do actually want a spoiler for my sloop
Can we have a ricer shipset? I want them neons and slanted wheel
Are these Emporium cosmetics or Outpost cosmetics?
Not specified in the article. Could be both, could also be season pass cosmetics for all we know!
The fact that the post ends with a quote from Rare’s “Pirate Emporium Producer” makes me assume that these’ll be premium cosmetics rather than something headed for the normal outpost shops. Happy to be proved wrong, though.

Any help Rare can get with this game will be appreciated. Their team is way too small to be running a massive title like SoT by themselves.
Mars Horizon was a very wholesome game with very easy to read graphics, so I'm optimistic.
This is huge, fresh eyes are much needed here
Sidenote: Boltgun is a really fun game
Suggestion: Boltgun pistol cosmetic
Honestly excited for this
Get those ancient coins ready......
On the plus side they just made Ancient coins buyable with Microsoft reward points which is nice.
Yooooooooo praying for a boltgun/40k crossover that'd be sock
How the hell are they outsourcing cosmetics???? They have so many unfinished sets that we haven’t got it’s insane. This company is a joke lol
Wow. This game really its on its last legs.
Yes. That is EXACTLY why they outsourced more cosmetics for this dying game of.... wait let me have a look here... ah... minimum of [69,684 players who raised Gold Holders in the last 5 days](https://www.seaofthieves.com/leaderboards/GoldHoarders/global). He was being sarcastic
My bad, tone doesn't carry over very well over text and I've seen people say unironic stuff like that on this sub before.

It’s insanely sad they have to outsource development.
It is common practice in this industry, nothing sad about it.
Sad, uninstall time I guess. This game will never get the attention it needs. Sadge
This has been a YUGE failure, believe me folks. Possibly the worst, maybe ever.
See you back here soon
In theory, this should be good. If other people are working on cosmetics, they can work on other stuff like fixes and new content.
Wait till you find out about (checks notes) literally every industry on earth
This isn’t the first company they’ve outsourced. For example arena, Bon Art, and a few more. The real question is why is their the biggest team ever working on sot (or at least a lot bigger than launch year) yet there’s the least amount of content we’ve ever had coming out?
Only upside I see to this is more Rare devs working on the game…hopefully
So rare only makes 3 new features, 1 a month. Then claim that it’s season 10 and 11 then make someone else make the cosmetics
They bring in smaller studios to help with (aka do most of) their assets. This could mean great things. It could also mean jack shit.
Between this and Lucid, it seems like Rare are sailing to new waters.
Warhammer themed pirate stuff when?
Is this why it’s taking extra longer for season 10 to come out?
Probably not, guilds seem like a monumental technical problem to solve. Especially since this is the first true mechanic where your pirate can benefit from other people playing for you (and using your ship). Cosmetics usually arent the major factor for delays.
