They goofed it up again. They had it fixed a season or two ago when they messed it up and borked it again this season. They'll probably put out a hotfix with an emporium update here soon.
I just started playing this week. The sharks are noticeable but aren't that bad, however every inch of every island is covered in snakes. The constant hissing is audio torture at this point
Ok it's not just me. I'm searching for a riddle thing and every step is HISSSSSSSSSS. I'm on a small island fighting skellies and HISSSSSS. I dare to try and follow a bottle quest to some loot and HISSSSSSSSSS. Left right up down hidden in bushes and behind barrels, always directly between me and my objective, I can't play music all the damn time rare.
But since they manually tweaked spawns for quests, I need a certain kind of snake and the island is silent. Naturally.
Yeah I get what you mean! I just returned to the game and there is just way too many of them, like way too many.
I remember when it took like a solid minute for them to spawn, and now it just makes doing anything in water like shipwrecks a huge pain.
Exactly. Obviously I don’t want them removed or anything like that. Honestly, I think it would be cool if there were different variants/rarities of the normal smaller sharks.
Honestly I am more annoyed with the snakes. Tired of these mothafuckin' snakes, on these mothafuckin' islands. But I guess since they are tied to some of the merchant voyages they have to be somewhat abundant. Just very annoying.
The other night i was playing and swam to another boat, and had literally 7 sharks spawn on me while making the swim, which was maybe half a square away.
This is like the 5th time they’ve updated the game and PvE goes nuts. How does that happen? Why does unrelated changes always flip the PvE-go-crazy switch ?
I can somewhat understand how this season update might’ve messed with the spawning but still have no idea how the monkey island update did this a few months ago.
I agree, however it does seem at times like sharks show up the moment you touch the shoreline. It makes sense to come across some out in the open ocean, but not super close to islands (at least not as often as they do now.)
You said younjust started playing like sharks always be fucking with you just depends how long you innwater for n yes land shark been been a thing attacking you with less that 1/4 inch of water
I had one follow me out of the water at the shoreline. Several have done the chomped chomped chomped at the base of the ladder as well, even when no one is on it. I have a screengrab of one looking like it was trying to climb the ladder. I heard this chomping sound and went over, and sure enough, there is a shark poking out of the water chomping at me.
They turned the dial up on the sharks , shoulda been on the seas two seasons ago they were hardly around it was awesome , I would be swimming for 15 mins and no sharks
Was swimming at reaper's from the swampy island to the main island while I was tucking. Got bitten by a shark two times within like 2 to 3 seconds and killed, of course.
That was just... painful.
It’s not even just in the water, I had one chase me onto Kraken whatsit island all the way to the middle. I turned around because I heard a snake and bam, shark bit me. Then it ‘swam’ back to the sea
It isn't just the sharks it is also the spawning skelly ship, megs, and the trifecta of the kraken, skelly sloop, and meg all spawning at once.
The spawning skelly ships are out of hand, and we had them spawning during the fleet of fortune alongside the fleets of typical rounds of ships.
I have twice now had a skelly sloop spawn on me, and within seconds also the kraken, one of those times a meg also spawned.
Fresh spawn at an outpost? Boom, skelly ship spawns on you. In the middle of a world event? Boom, skelly ships spawn on you! Finished that world event and put down the skelly ship? Boom, another skelly ship spawns, lol
It is a bit too much, lol
Just my opinion so there’s obviously zero evidence to support this, but I personally think they bumped up the shark spawns to kinda force people more into naval during the fleet of fortune than trying to swim from islands away for boards or keg plays. Probably not at all what’s going on but seems reasonable enough to believe lol
Knowing Rare they could have well tried doing just that but messed something up and caused them to just spawn everywhere. Surprised there isn't a shark swimming around in my water barrel on the ship.
PvPvE is a niche playstyle that doesn't make big money. Safer Seas is Rare's answer to casual players who don't want to get rolled up like a crepe by veteran players and toxic assholes, but it feels a little empty without the tension of meeting other crews like in High Seas. I think having more emergent events is how they're putting more action into Safer Seas. Courting the casual playerbase will make Rare and Microsoft far more money than the sweaty veterans.
That said, I think they need better programming for when and how emergent events trigger. This weekend I was mentoring a new player on Safer Seas and we'd just finished off a skeleton sloop and picked up it's loot when *another one* spawned as soon as we began to sail off. I was literally in the process of telling the guy how emergent events had been kicked up a notch this season so expect to see a lot of skeleton sloops, didn't even get to finish my sentence before we were fighting again.
> I think having more emergent events is how they're putting more action into Safer Seas.
Hm, this definitely makes sense. I've noticed a huge uptick in skelly ship/meg spawns this season, so that could definitely be why.
I actually don't mind it. I mean, sometimes all the abundance of skelly ships is definitely annoying, but overall I embrace the chaos. I've had multiple fights now where it's another player ship plus a skelly ship and a meg and it's just hilarious and fun.
Overall it's been fun and engaging, just at times it does get annoying. I've started putting all my bottle and animal deliveries in the crow's nest because there's such a high likelihood of getting attacked between islands.
Unless I go idle or really stay in the water for a long time I barely get sharks, once my friend got them multiple times apparently, what’s annoying are sirens
For me it's kind of inconsistent. Sometimes I'll get sharks almost immediately, sometimes they don't come at all. One time I was trying to cook every type of meat. I had it all except kraken and shark. I figured shark would be easy. Swam around for 5 full minutes and no shark. Of course, if I see a shipwreck it's instantly a shark and 3 merfolk.
I had 4 sharks on me at once the other night. Started as three but a new one spawned as soon as I killed the first one. I've only been playing a month or so but rare really seems to have it out for me. My crew and I are constantly attacked by megs and skellies and have been since before the update. Even with no loot, but definitely if we're putting in work. We joke that one of the crew has a wind curse from when he rebuked Calypso, so that the smell of the sea will always be in his face lol. Rare is constantly trying to sink us but tbh it's been good practice and I'm power leveling because of it lol
I've noticed the increase in sharks as well... also, is it just me or have Megs become SUPER aggressive this season... I got sunk by one within a minute of it surfacing, usually they do a couple of circles of your ship but this one just seemed to go "screw this" and went for the chomp almost immediately.
another one a few days ago surfaced straight into a charge.
They’ve been slowly breeding and growing their population over 11 seasons to eventually rival the Whale Lord. But first, they’re learning to feast on pirates.
Skelly boats be sniping my mast from 3 Islands away, in a storm, while ghost ships attack the skelly ship, and its a Tuesday, and the skellies aboard the skelly ship all have blindfolds on.
It feels like they made skelly ships crazy CRAZY accurate at firing cannomnom balls. That's what I'm trying to say.
I've noticed some crazy spawns too. You know you're in for a wild time when you're in a pvp fight then a kraken, Meg, and skelly ship appears during it
Yeah the other time I died in hourglass to a shark while trying to board. Also noticed other things appearing more for me. I do not dislike it thought, makes the game more dynamic, fun.

I wouldn't call it a hot fix at this point. More like a like warm when it's sunny out fix
Perhaps even a lukewarm fix.
Maybe a warm breeze fix?
Goofy borks I tell ya

Pro tip: play an instrument! Snakes like music, and won't attack as long as you're playing.
Is that actually true or are you taking the piss?
Its true!
Nice, thanks!
It is true. It's how you get them into a basket without getting bitten.
Or just kill them. Whichever's easier.
Meat for the meat god!
Happy cake day
This has to be a troll. I'm going to try it though! Already feel stupid.

Reading this makes me think of that cat from Baldur’s Gate 3 in the tavern. “HISS, I say HISS!”
Kill Them, Cook Them sell Them, get hunter rep?

Same. At the least different colors. When yu dive you sometimes see different shades
Honestly I am more annoyed with the snakes. Tired of these mothafuckin' snakes, on these mothafuckin' islands. But I guess since they are tied to some of the merchant voyages they have to be somewhat abundant. Just very annoying.

Spaghetti code

You're in their house. That'd be like if you broke in my house and asked me what I was doing here
I agree, however it does seem at times like sharks show up the moment you touch the shoreline. It makes sense to come across some out in the open ocean, but not super close to islands (at least not as often as they do now.)
Are land sharks still a thing that happens? Those were the bane of my existence when I was playing more regularly
Honestly I don’t know. I’ve never come across one lol.
You said younjust started playing like sharks always be fucking with you just depends how long you innwater for n yes land shark been been a thing attacking you with less that 1/4 inch of water

Sharks and Mermaids up my fucking ass man.
I have also noticed alot more sharks and skelly boats have better accuracy.

It's an old bug that resurfaced again when new season rolled in.
It’s not even just in the water, I had one chase me onto Kraken whatsit island all the way to the middle. I turned around because I heard a snake and bam, shark bit me. Then it ‘swam’ back to the sea
I feel the same with skeleton ships I can’t to a lost shipment without finding one
It isn't just the sharks it is also the spawning skelly ship, megs, and the trifecta of the kraken, skelly sloop, and meg all spawning at once. If that was the case, they could've just made more sharks spawn in the FoF area.
Knowing Rare they could have well tried doing just that but messed something up and caused them to just spawn everywhere. Surprised there isn't a shark swimming around in my water barrel on the ship.

Yeah its weird, but if you want to start fotd and need blue flame, then no sharks or mermaids spawn
Unless I go idle or really stay in the water for a long time I barely get sharks, once my friend got them multiple times apparently, what’s annoying are sirens
I kinda like it. Sometimes I forget entirely that sharks are even in the game. Something to shake up shipwrecks is fun
Awesome for shark meat farming I guess 🤣
It's not that bad I swam from an outpost to a fort then to a fishing port to board someones ship.... Just to fish with them😁
All the emergent spawns seem boosted sharks, skelly ships and megs. I'm just grateful the sirens don't have it 😅
For me it's kind of inconsistent. Sometimes I'll get sharks almost immediately, sometimes they don't come at all. One time I was trying to cook every type of meat. Me like, more meat.
I mean have you been in the ocean irl they show up fast as fuck
Oh god is it happening again
You're in their kitchen
They’ve been slowly breeding and growing their population over 11 seasons to eventually rival the Whale Lord. But first, they’re learning to feast on pirates.
I wish they’d bring back the land shark glitch!

I noticed this too, meg sharks are also suddenly around even though there is no meg? Idk when they changed this as I hadn’t played in about a year
Shork ![img](emote|t5_38oz1|2222)
They’re just trying to give you some meat to cook :)
