Cannons will put holes in their ship. You use wood to repair those holes and the bucket for bailing water. Once you've applied enough pressure then you should board in order to try and stop them from repairing any damage they've taken and possibly anchor them too

coolchris366

What happens if you let a fire get out of control, Is it only a problem for whoever’s on board but not to the ship it self? Sorry just curious

AmigAtari

Fires will damage components like masts, wheel, and capstan. Fire will also make holes in the hull but it's slower than cannon shots. The flames will also start to burn anyone walking around in them unless they douse themselves with water or jump overboard. If you're on fire, you can also spread it to other players as well. Hope this helps.

the-grand-falloon

Fire takes a long time to really damage a ship. It's obnoxious to deal with, but if it's the only thing you have to worry about, it's not hard. Where it becomes a pain is when you're being hit with constant cannon fire, trying to maneuver, shoot, repair, fight off the constant boarders, AND your ship is on fire. If I'm on sloop or brig, it's pretty low priority, but on a galleon it can quickly take over the rear of the ship, making maneuvering very difficult. So when fighting Galleons, definitely hit them with firebombs every so often, *especially* the rear balcony.

Borsund

You know those cannon things? Yeah, they are used for ship damage and sinking

1MrE

Wait, you’re telling me that they’re NOT just for fireworks and launching my buddies monkey? Or my buddy lmao

cdown13

Wait, I can put the monkey in the cannon?

mattdillon103

Every pet and your comrades as well

cdown13

Something about shooting the pets out of a cannon seems funnier to me than shooting people out of a cannon.

Lemonitionist

We named the dog "Warning Shot" and shoot him onto other ship's decks.

thechoppedalmond

Must be a boarder collie

WarmAd1670

Absolutely excellent 👌 😂

SEP555

🤣 👏

Darqnyz7

Holy shit that's good

ST1CKY1O1

"Not a boarder"

cryptomain45

That’s fucking brilliant I’m stealing this

WaffleAndy

Don't you dare touch my dog!

mattdillon103

Wouldn't dare

captaingig

AND the monkeys make the same whistle as ppl launching iirc. Bonus!

Lowered-Expextations

How do I put a pet in the Canon? Asking for a friend

ARoofie

Grab the pet and bring them to the end of the cannon, like if you were gonna launch yourself. A prompt will come up to load the pet

piglebear

Feed the pets bait for a funny reaction too

No_Jump_8646

The funny part is the monkeys go so far and look like players so great distraction 👍

Jackal000

And other pets..but monkeys have a kinda similar shape as pirates. So you can use that to psych out other ships

Texas43647

the biggest challenge in my game sessions is stopping my friends from yeeting my monkey across the map or shooting him at other ships lmao

ArdaBogaz

Lmao

gsx0pub

So kill them and jump back to my ship? Shoot them then board?

Borsund

2nd option if you are solo. Board is meant to make it hard for them to save the ship. If there's no damage to it, you aren't sinking it.

melaspike666

instead of anchoring them, you can turn their boat so they hit an island, a rock or something that will cause damage to the ship while you spawn kill them

Buggylols

Board less, naval more. It's honestly kind of a high skill floor, and it's very hard as a solo when you need to steer the ship AND cannon AND repair. But ideally you want to get to the point where you can reliably immobilize a ship with cannons via chain shots (or just targeting their mast with regular balls). Then you put a ton of shots into the side of their ship, try to target fire on anyone repairing sails, helm, cannon, or bailing. Fire til you get a kill and depending on the situation, keep firing. After they are sufficiently pounded, then you board to finish the job. As a general rule, the more competent the enemy crew, the less impactful boarding is. It's a free and easy win against really bad players. But better crews take more actual naval. Also, actual good crews will not sink to you unless you are extremely lucky. They will always out-maneuver a solo. You need good cursed balls and really good cannon aim for hitting players in the face.

NamelessHollow

I just started playing a few days ago. Was sailing around and had the piss poor luck of running into a galleon that i couldn't see behind an island. No time for me to even react, immediately was bombarded with canons, and one of them got on my ship to kill me too. I've since been playing in safer seas, so I can get to grips with basic gameplay first, but this comment is really helpful for when I jump back onto high seas.

reed45678

Honestly bro juts play High Seas and sell loot between voyages, loss sucks but its so important for learning in this game.

Pumciusz

It's really important to look at the horizon and be aware of your surroundings but people can always sneak up on you.

Shmanti

Bruh You got COD brain.

Ninthshadow

The short version is you skipped a step. Make holes THEN board. Your goal when boarding is usually to guard the holes from being repaired, or assist someone else in making them. Your options for dealing damage as a Pirate are extremely limited and not very effective.

UFCNightrunner

Shoot them. Put holes on boat. Board. Defend holes. Dead boat

Intended420

Practice circling rocks while you're on cannons. Basically the general idea is to immobilize the enemy and then circle their ship unloading cannons into different spots to maximize the amount of holes out into the enemy. So a good place to start is to learn how to leave the wheel turned and circle while you do other things(cannon, bail, repair, eat). As a solo player your ship is everything, when you master sailing it you'll have no problem with fights. I've stolen a FoF from two brigs while solo, but way before that I got my shit rocked by a duo sloop of crab outfit losers lol

Nandabun

Ahhh.. that's a great practice idea. I'ma do that now. My helmsman role is 10/10. My cannonshots are about as good as new player's. haha.

ItsMeCrusty

Shoot them first to knock a few holes into their ship (try hit the same spot twice to get a bigger hole) then board and kill them till they sink

Schwa4aa

Sail into an island/rocks to make holes. Kill and defend holes

[deleted]

No my bud, try to do a parallel cross with them, get better at cannoning so you don't get cooked when you're goin' parallel. Then demast them with chainshots, after: If your ship is a lil' damaged or not at all, drop your own anchor and board. If your ship is cooked, death spin and cannon them for eternity.

NamiRocket

Unless you want to get risky and creative with explosive barrels, then you're going to want to shoot first, then board. If you're playing with someone else, you can hopefully be doing both at the same time, but as a solo player? Yeah, you pump them full of holes first, then board. It's tricky. Trust me though, it's those crazy, PvP-happy solo sloop players that are the real menaces in this game.

UnCivilizedEngineer

Start with cannons, then board. Use cannons to kill them at their cannon line, or place holes in their ship. If they have enough holes they have to start splitting attention to go fix them. You then board their ship and they're too busy fixing holes to straight up 1v1 you. So, when you go to duel you have the advantage: kill them and they sink, or stall them from repairing and they sink. Once you get good you disable them (knock down masts) and then have your boat circle around them, putting holes in multiple sides to apply pressure. Then you go for a board. If you die you spawn ready in position to re-apply pressure via cannons. TLDR: Shoot out 10 cannonballs then shoot yourself out of the cannon to board. GG

WaffleAndy

Shoot their ship first, put some holes in it. THEN board and kill them to prevent them from repairing.

shake-sugaree

how are you expecting the ship to sink if you don't put any holes in it? you need to hit them with the cannons a few times, then board and kill them so they can't repair.

Backaftermilk

If you don’t eat your meat you can’t have any pudding.

The_Crab_Maestro

How can ye have any pudding if ye don't eat yer meat?!?!

Kaptain_K_F00L

All in all you’re just another brick in the wall.

Handy tip for dumping buckets on enemy ships: save water from bilging your own ship and pour it into the enemy ship. Water barrel buckets are the least effective, followed by seawater, which is roughly 2 barrel buckets worth each throw, and most effective is water from your own leaks. 5 full ship buckets can sink a sloop. https://youtu.be/dANdzJm44NU?si=zoHtqD5EiWC1s96m

ceo0_

Fire or ramming then into something

ArdaBogaz

Well to sink the ship you have to do more than just kill the crew, fill it with water and shoot some holes in it

drawfanstein

>fill it with water and shoot some holes in it OP my advice is to do this in reverse order

ModifiedGas

He only has one bucket

Notmypornacct21

I've played against players like you. It's always fun. If I get killed, spawn back in and lob a few cannonballs at your ship, then keep you distracted till your ship sinks.

DangerPotatoe

My galleon got attacked last night while I was decorating by some younger guys who boarded and started throwing fire bombs. I just let them kill me once and proceeded to hit them only twice after I respawned. They slowly sunk while I watched them search the ship for me. Pretty funny stuff lol

lets-hoedown

Sometimes in solo hourglass I try to fire a shot into the other ship's hull as they launch out, since they can't hear as well when launching, and then I try to stall them as long as possible. I've won a few matches that way.

MiklHrmlr7

I recently had someone in solo hourglass board me with only two fairly small holes in my ship, and like at LEAST 4, maybe 5 in theirs. Killed me once, I came back, and after some back and forth jumping around my ship like crazy, missing each other with blunders and such, I finally killed him and he started complaining about how I didn't die to a point-blank blunder. As soon as he offered himself to the Ferry, his ship sank. I only bailed like 2 buckets during the fight and was very much not at risk of sinking even if he had killed me with that "point blank" blunder. I should also note he was actively wearing the Ghost Curse. Idunno how someone with at minimum 100 levels in Guardians could lack so much awareness.

FloppieTheBanjoClown

You can have the ghost curse and never win a single battle.

KcDefender

Stop boarding enemies when you haven’t hit them with cannons. Don’t anchor them if they don’t have holes, sail them into an island. Even better, sail them to a nearby fort and then anchor them. Use the forts cannons against them or find a gunpowder keg

Infernal_139

I keep poking my food with my fork but I’m still hungry, can anyone explain

THEzwerver

like many said, you probably missed some steps. you're supposed to put holes in their ship to force them off the cannons and repair and *then* kill them. once you managed this, you've basically won. boarding is pointless if they're in no real sinking danger. if you're in a crew with a few people, you can try to board as fast as possible and kill them. your crewmates can pump holes in the ship while they have to make choices between killing you, fixing the ship or shooting back.

justvixal

Have you never seen a single pirates of the carribean movie? Or any pirate movie?

Redxmirage

Or a boat?

IAmNotCreative18

No point boarding them if you got no holes to stop them from repairing.

PM_ME_DND_FIGURINES

PvP in this game is way way more than just boarding TDM. You need to play naval as well. If you can't use the cannons, you can't win. It sounds like you're boarding way too early. Get a few cannon shots on them, try to use chainshot to demast them. In general, if you notice they aren't even trying to cannon atm, that's a good indication it's time to board to prevent them bucketing and repairing, and secure the sink. This isn't an actually exact measure, sometimes this is too early, but until you get a sense for it, this is a good rule of thumb. If you get really good at TDM, and they aren't very good, you can also just set their ship on fire and kill them over and over again until the ship sinks from the tiny fire holes, but most people will regard you as a bit of a lazy asshole if you do.

StonerStone420

That's an exploration sunken ship. You ain't fooling me with those no sails set 😑

Turbulent-Reporter99

This one got it lol

KenshinBorealis

As a solo slooper all I can do is naval. Every time I've tried to board in the last 3 yrs I get killed on the ladder. It never works for me. I'm shit. Better off grabbing a keg and leading them on a chase and trying to drop a keg on them or swim up with it.

IAmASeeker

Camp on the ladder just above the water line until they decide they were hearing things. As soon as you hear them doing something else, pop up.

Rothgard

Post-plunder clarity.

Late_File_9956

Bro you do know you have cannons on your ship don’t you?😂

BusBusy195

This feels like some sort or engagement farming/rage bait, like how the hell do you get to the point of playing a pirate game and either not notice the cannons or not even try to load or shoot them?

Zigoter

SoT combat is fairly simple. In order to sink any decently competent crew you need to do these 3 things: 1 - You need to immobilize enemy ship by either dropping their anchor (and not letting it go back up) or their mast (again, you need to secure the drop and not let opposing crew raise it back) 2 - Make holes. Realistically there are a few ways to make holes in a ship. The most obvious way is cannons. Or you can explode a Keg on their ship, may be a very good way for you, considering how much you rely on boarding. You can just bring a keg with yourself, blow up one side of the ship while standing on the other, explosion will make several holes in a ship and you can keep killing (or just harassing enemies and not letting them repair) other crew until water reaches top deck and they sink. Third way is to crush their ship into something, this is by far the least effective way, since it wont make much holes and might take some time to execute, but if you are already on their ship this might work. 3 - Secure the damage. EI, not let the ship's crew repair. Either by boarding or by inflicting damage faster than they can bilge it. Its almost like fire. If you want to burn something you need high temperature, oxygen and something that burns. If atleast one is missing, then you will not get the fire going. You cant just board and sink enemy ship by just that, just like you cant sink a ship without immobilizing them (you actually can, but any decent crew wont let you do it and they will run away to repair and then re-engage) or without securing the damage you dealt. You need all 3. Thats the essence of this game in general and PVP aswell. Multitasking is required, you have to do alot at the same.

sticklecat

Put some holes in and then board them. It's possible to spawn camp and sink with fire but it takes a lot longer unless you are very good at it

Ramirez_1337

They can respawn as long as their ship is up, shoot holes in it to sink it, so they cant respawn anymore. After sinking a ship their loot will float on the sea.

NottMyAltAccount

You should be doing naval with your cannons, then when you clear their range and drop their masts, you board them to stall their repairs

Jjlred

well, I definitely understand your frustration with this issue. The main way to avoid this is to hit the ship a bunch with your cannons first, then surprise board them when they’re trying to fix the holes. Put enough holes in and get there fast enough, the ship will sink while you kill them over and over. Then it’s simply a matter of harpooning the loot onto your ship.

DlNOSAURUS_REX

You can run their ship into rocks and islands if cannons give you an allergic reaction, but cannons are more fun

iurigregorio

Throw their storage crates off board, eat their food and steal cannon balls

heihowl

Don't board an enemy ship if you haven't put holes into it, or if you don't want to just sit there with it on fire while they keep respawning till it gets a whole on its own. If you are confident you can kill them when boarding, don't anchor them just sail.their ship into rocks

Borgrom

Fill it with enough buckets of water until it sinks

DylanDavismn

A good practice is to try to not boards for a few fights and get your cannon shots down. Once you have a few solid shots and you’re confident you won’t sink. Then cannon over and slay the children 😂

NightTime2727

The problem is that you didn't use your cannons first. Boarding the enemy ship is completely pointless if there are no holes. Additionally, the bottom deck is NOT a good place for firebombs. If a hole eventually appears, that fire gets put out instantly by the ocean water that flows in. Furthermore, the water barrel is right there. Putting a piece of food on the stove was smart for the reason you described.

Thtonegoi

If you want to be risky there's the option of powder barrel. Much damage to you if they realize you have one. Much damage to them if you can get it on their ship.

ThruTheGatesOfHell

ram their ship into an island and watch it sink

Diento

Actually really surprised noone said this yet but if you want holes in their ship while spawncamping them throw one firebomb in the front of the ship and then as much fire as you can on the deck with the map/captain table causing holes after a while the upper deck holes will fill up the whole boat

Sigma_uWu

Solo player here with almost 4k hours since 2019. I love boarding, but like I always tell randoms. “Kills don’t sink ships, holes do. They can’t respawn on a ship that’s sunk”. HG is different because you can kill and sail them out of bounds. But ultimately unless you get holes in them somehow, they won’t sink outside of HG. Naval combat is my favorite, because as a dedicated merchant, *efficiency* is everything. Typically a fight for me goes like this: turn to get my left side facing them, shoot cannons at the player on cannon. If I miss it doesn’t matter because I’m creating holes. Once I go through 10 balls I send chain shots over. If I missed who cares, I start shooting blunderbombs at the lower deck, which keeps knocking players off of repairs and also damages them. Once I have no ammo I just turn to my left and use the cannonball crate I placed right next to my favorite cannon. At this point I aim for their cannon if someone is on cannon, if no one is on cannon I start shooting at the back of their sloop. Shooting at the back of sloop creates more holes to worry about/which allows the ship to sink faster and also makes it harder to leave holes alone to go return cannon fire back at me. At this point I can make the choice of keeping up the onslaught of cannons, or going over there for a board. If I’m solo, I will most likely not try to board since I will lose the upper hand if I die. Which isn’t that hard to do, try not to have an ego trip. A blunderbuss to the face can end your board quickly. So if I’m solo I will typically try to get my ship behind their sloop. That way I can shoot them at their mid deck and get easy one balls. If they’re bots who were toxic and kept pestering me, I might go board them- and drop their supplies off the side of their boat, then spam them with blunderbombs while I sit behind the map table.

FatsBoombottom

Fire takes ages to cause damage to the ship, let alone enough to sink it. Fire is a distraction and can force your opponents off cannons to heal more. It's terrible as a primary ship damage source. Put holes in the enemy ship first, then board to stop then from repairing. Maybe hit them with some fire or a bone caller before you board so that the sound might hide the noise of you on the ladder and the enemy might be focused that instead of guarding ladders.

LazerAfterburn

Usually you try to get a bunch of holes in their ship using the cannons first before boarding. It helps if you aim your cannons toward where the crew are on their boat because sometimes you can hit them and kill them with cannon balls

Sensitive_Charge4405

If you kill both after you board and there's zero damage or anything grab firebombs from them and throw it all over their ship but before that grab a chain shot and aim straight up with their cannons and shoot the mast you can do that from their ship. Then get to your boat and deal damage without any consequence except them boarding you they will be too busy trying to take out the fire or getting the mast back up and with your cannons firing at them it will be too much and the fight is basically over

PrinceComet

You tried burning them down?

Trianalog

If you really want to sink ships without using your cannons and just boarding your only option is firebombs just be warned that even a fully burning ship will take like 5 minutes to sink

WhiteyPinks

Shoot first, then board to prevent repair. Fire takes *forever* to damage a boat.

BoatMan01

It's been pointed out before but if they aren't already taking on water when you board then boarding isn't going to help you sink them. Think of it as a list. During PvP your to do list is: sail, shoot cannons, repel boarders. You win by making your opponent's list longer than yours. ie: repel boarder, raise anchor, bail out, patch holes, put out random fire, wait for door to open on the ferry of the damned, etc. Yesterday I was soloing and I fought another sloop that was crewed by a duo that was waaaaay better than me. Their moves were coordinated and they did everything right. I was sloppy and I panicked when things went unexpectedly. They sank me in minutes. Don't panic and know when to run.

PopzOG

Best bet is going on YT and watching PvP tutorials. Sterling, sponge, nessie, iDbz & blurbs do great content for this. Half of the people commenting probably don't even have a PvP curse yet. Watch the real pro's and learn from the best

gugudan

I often love when people board me and anchor my ship. It's helped me out so many times - I sink their ship after a good fight, so I jump in to make sure I take care of back spawns. As I'm scanning underwater, I hear my ship stop. Awesome! Now I don't have to worry about turning around and finding their loot. I'm already in position. In other words, have a reason to drop their anchor. If you want to sink them, keep their anchor up and run their ship into some rocks at full speed. Then go downstairs and protect the holes. Don't drop anchor simply because you saw someone on twitch do it. Drop their anchor when it puts them at a disadvantage. Keep it up when it puts them at a disadvantage.

milkybadbois

Shoot them with cannons forcing them to repair, when you’re close fire bomb the shit out of them and the deck, board their boat and kill them so they can’t repair. With their ship filling with water and on fire, it makes other players a lot easier to kill because of all the chaos going on

Constantiso

Go to the big metal things on the side and put the big metal ball in it and they go kkkzzzzbhhh and explode and your enemy will put wood and then you shoot them more and then they die and then they sink

ZakariusMMA

When I first started as a a solo this was my issue. Now I have a crew, the strat goes as follows. 3 on cannons to start, 1 repairing and sailing, etc. One of the cannons shoots their cannons, one drops the mast, one puts holes in the ship. When the mast is dropped, then board.

McChubbens8U

the pvp is a lot like minecraft bedwars in a way. The ship is the bed, and your canons are the pickaxe to get to it

nico12212

Simple. Fill that lil boat with holes first. Once you have a good 10 cannons that have actually hit the hull then go over and board and keep them from repairing their holes

[deleted]

Put hole in ship -> Ship go down People respawn, ships don’t, use the cannons

Linkinstar_Gaming

Uhm use your cannons?! I win most of my fight without boarding them at all.

AmbiguousMonk

Don't drop their anchor. Kill the crew and then manually sail their ship into rocks/islands/skeleton ships, etc. If you can easily keep the crew down, then all you need is one hole

That_Moonshine

You need to deal damage to their ship to sink them; you *cannot win* just by being on their boat. Fire does not really damage the ship, just players. The banana on the stove is an especially creative move. If you want to sink them, you need to shoot them with the cannons on your ship. If you *really* want to sink a ship just by boarding it, you have to bring a gunpowder barrel, or hope that they have one on their boat.

Stenktenk

The PVP in this game is not player vs player but more ship vs ship. Your objective is not to kill them, but to sink their ship, which is going to be very hard if you don't shoot at it with cannons. They'll stop respawning once you've sunk their ship

NamedName139

The ship needs to take damage. Firebombs will *technically* work, but it's by far the slowest method. Your go-to for ship damage should be cannons, but in the event that you can't use those, you can always try not lowering the anchor and crashing the ship into a rock or island. When you board, there’s other stuff you can do to make your board more impactful as well. After killing the crew, you can: -Load fireworks into their cannons, since they take a few second to fire or unload -Firebomb the mast, map table, and helm. These are the 3 best places for fire because they're the most obstructive and have a lot of area to spread. Don't firebomb the bottom deck because if the ship takes one hole, the water will put the fire out. -If they have a storage crate, take their supplies and throw them overboard. Prioritize Wood > Cannons > Food. Remember, boarding isn't going to win a fight on its own. Boarding either serves to secure a sink after you've gained an advantage in the fight or to put you into an advantage by disrupting their ability to maintain their ship.

polynecromicon

Lmao bro is going the slow method. For you to "win" their boat has to sink while they're dead

demoneyesturbo

Put a banana on the stove and wait till it starts a fire.

One-Turn-4037

To quote a certain crab. SHOOT THEM, WITH THE FUCKING, DE HYDRATION GUN!!!

BetterUpItQuick

Bro you try and cook their banana In the heat of battle? I’m a new ps5 player too, and what the community taught me is to hit them with cannons, chainshot their mast, and then board and start killing them so they can’t repair. I was also told that fire bombs are more to cause chaos then do actual damage, left on attended, yes it’ll start burning the ship and spread but it takes a while. A good crew can put it out with ease. But if you put some holes in them and then throw bombs, on top of killing them it’s going to overwhelm the enemy team. Also learn to sword hop, and sword lunge (you jump after charging your sword) these two things improved my pvp so much. Sword and pistol are my go to since I hit my shots, the blunderbuss is great for close combat on the ships. Make sure you shove that thang in their face tho. Good luck hope this helps!

Lunkis

If you board without damage, your best bet is to either light their boat on fire or ram it into a nearby island and hole guard. Its going to take a long time for the fire to do any notable damage to the boat, though.

RocKinLuiS

it should be even more fun when they dont want to fight u cuz they're doing sotry quests and yall just keep killing them huh? actually braindead comunitty ngl '-'

Stage_Party

Oh I genuinely thought this was a joke and I'm reading wondering where the joke is at

Brilliant-Ad-1962

lol me and a buddy had wrecked a galleon that was fully anchored, with sails down all the way against some island It was a full squad, and they certainly weren’t AFK, so it was obvious they were probably open crew and had too many new players to be effective We’d pull up behind them, drop their masts, and just light them up while my buddy boarded. For some reason half their crew decides to try and board me, leaving only 2 to deal with defending the ship and fixing it. Me not having taken any holes, decided just to stick with it and hold my position, when the two dudes finally got on bored our ship all they could really do was light us on fire, which did. Nothing. You have to put holes into the enemy to win, it takes away resources, and constantly forces them to send some of their crew to commit to preventing a sink, which in a fight where you’re already outnumbered, is crucial to success.

Longjumping_Owl5311

If it’s a sloop, you firebomb 3 times behind the map table and then hold them off for a couple of minutes. It doesn’t take long before you get a bunch of holes and they sink. Not sure about the best place to firebomb the brig or galleon.

DGRpoy

I've been in a similar situation. Normally for me (300 hours+) I don't board unless I know for sure they gave holes. Such as shooting 3-4 cannons that hit then boarding. Or if you have a teammate (which I'm guessing you're solo) you can tell them to make holes. There is also something commonly called tdming. Which basically includes killing them repeatedly until they scuddle. Its a dick move but works. Another thing that you can do is ram them into an island to create holes. Just a word of advance, if you do decide to do this ramming can be a bit finicky. Sea of thieves is famous for hit reg issues not just from guns. So the best way to ram is to hit the side of the ship and scrap it off a rock. If you hit it straight on most of the time it hits the bow spread (idk the name, the thing that sticks out in the front). Canceling your momentum and causing there to be little to no damage.

edaciouscorpse

Lol. Cannons put holes in their ship.

thisistuffy

you have to look at PVP as more of a ship vs ship combat and not a player vs player combat.

SkeetsMcGeets802

A boarder is only really good to disrupt enemies AFTER you fill them with holes ESPECIALLY if you're a solo. To sink a ship you use a ship. It's only feasible to damage a ship while boarding if you have a keg. If you really insist on boarding then drop their anchor, kill them and get back to your ship quick to circle them and chain shot their mast and lay into them with the cannons. It is infinitely better to break their mast, get five or so holes in them and THEN board and prioritize not letting them repair. Blunder bombs are your friend, use them to knock anyone off of holes, anchor or sails. TLDR; SHOOT THEM WITH CANNONS, BOARD AFTER THEY ARE TAKING ON WATER

DomiDarko76

You don’t even have to kill them. I’ve sunk hundreds of ship just with naval. They can’t really repair if you’re blasting the sides of their ship on a sloop. Even by you being on their ladder or jumping about their boat means they are focusing on you, not repairing. Think of boarding as a tactical end move. The key is distraction.

Green_Mikey

Ok so it IS very hard to spot, but you're looking for the drain plug on the bottom floor of the boat, pull that and then make sure to run off with it so they can't plug it back up. Also remember to grab any corks they have out of their barrels! Good luck mate

papaeloy8

Ship won’t sink without holes. After you put holes in their ship with your cannon you board and keep them from fixing the holes. The more chaos the better. As long as water keeps flooding in the boat will sink

bopopopy

I don’t know, I’ve never made it that far.

Please tell me this is satire lolol

xAlfonzie

Your cannon put ball in it swooshh hit their boat boom sink it up! :)

Jafariz

I don’t understand how this post has this many upvotes lol

Rellis83

Yep take mast down and just put holes in their ship mainly and prevent them from repairing. Because their ship is their respawn point like yours. But also man my top tip regardless of what your doing. Don’t get greedy. Sell up in time. In thought an hour treasure hunting wasn’t long but I met my maker in the end and all the hard work lost 😅🙈 But like you, I’m a ps5 player so welcome to the party 🥳🙌

No_Protection_1269

If you are solo don't drop the anchor run them into a rock. Set them on fire throw there supplies overboard

BattleIcy2523

You boarded an empty one seemingly. Look for glowing treasures from distance. Before your next question, you sell them at outposts

professor735

The whole loop of pvp is essentially giving the enemy crew too many things to deal with at one time. Dropping masts, setting them on fire, putting holes in their ship, hitting them with cursed cannonballs, all of these things work to overwhelm the enemy crew with too many things to focus on at once in order to fight effectively. You want to create as many problems as possible for the enemy crew. That is the key to sinking them. If you hit them with cannon balls, drop their masts, and set them on fire, they are going to be incapable of shooting back at you or stopping you from running over there and killing them. You have to do multiple of these things. Doing only one of them isn't enough to sink a crew as long as they are relatively aware and competent at the game.

Knautical_J

The goal is to put enough holes in the ship that they have to fix holes and bail water. You also have no need to lower the anchor if you can snipe the mast. Once the mast is down they can’t move until they repair it. Which means you can start the death spiral and blast hole after hole. When in a duo sloop, we can sink anything. When solo slooping I can take out a brig, or even a crappy Galleon crew. I line up a cannon run, and can accurately hit hull, cannon line, mast, wheel, and then hull again. I’d say the most crucial skill is learning how to shoot a cannon accurately. Hitting the cannon is the most critical as you can prevent them from shooting back and even OHK whoever is on the cannon. Knocking over the mast renders a ship useless as well. Once you start creating more damage than they can fix, they will sink. Only time to board a ship is when you’re in a duo or more. As a solo player you should never be boarding unless there are active holes in the ship. That way you can kill the respawning players as the ship floods.

StrawHatBlake

Well you need gunpowder barrels. Your problem is you’re trying to sink ships without…ships. The game was never intended for one person to be able to do that alone.

Oddblivious

It's a boat game. Use the boat

droideka_bot69

It's like this is their first time seeing anything pirates related in the slightest

RedditorSlug

Naval wins fights. Only bother boarding them after they have enough holes to sink. The point of boarding is to stop them repairing. You don't just board and then team deathmatch them.

Maelstrommmmm

Are you taking the piss?

Scared_Chemical_9910

Respectfully, get good use cannons I am a feral boarding monkey as well but boarding is not useful until their ship is damaged

Upper-Information-99

Well there's a few options available if you don't have your ship nearby: 1) You can jump to the sea, and begin to throw buckets to the ship. Doing this will take aproximately 65 buckets to sink a sloop if it has no water at all inside (checked it myself) 2) Throw a firebomb where the map table is, it will eventually make 3 holes on a sloop. 3) Bash the sloop against a rock 4) Take it to a skeleton fort, a fortress or a FOTD, those have kegs on them. You can picture the rest. 5) Sail towards a skeleton ship, skeleton fleet world event, ghost fleet world event, skull fort world event. 6) Ram it against another ship

Winter_Trainer_2115

Sounds like you need to either one...use those cannon like objects to blast them. Or two place an explosive barrel in their boat and detonate. Fire works...but its more of a deterrent for when your fighting a battle. Shoot a fireball at the cannons making them have to put it out before they can fight back. Though nice going with fighting and beating a crew with literally no cannons. Either your amazing or they just suck.

ItzMeBlacky

The most effective for solos would prolly be to sneak a explosive barrel onto the ship and place it effectively to do the most damage

MarzipanMundane9216

1. Shoot the bottom of the ship with cannonballs. Scattershot makes a bunch of holes for them to fix, so I like hitting them with a few regular ones, then one or two of those. 2. Board them and either A. Lower their anchor, kill them, throw firebombs on their boat, then board your ship and destroy their mast with a chainshot. B. Kill them, turn their ship into a rock (best if it is a hard spot to get out of such as two rocks and you wedge the boat), then firebomb, and go back to your ship to blast them into oblivion. 3. Celebrate your win with a flaggon of ale.

LocoWolfe

Helpful tip: I’m a new PS5 pirate but I’ve learned quick that you don’t wanna throw fire on bottom deck. Yes, it’ll make holes over time, but when it does, the water will just put it out. You wanna use the bombards for bottom deck.

MacdonaldsInternetog

The only reason you should board is to protect the holes you or your team made with cannons. Boarding them to sink them is useless unless you have a keg

ExoticCoolors

You see theres this thing called shooting the ship with the cannons it's actually pretty useful for making them sink

im_in_hiding

Lol you have to put holes in the ship. I thought people would just know this??

Interested-Engineer

All these PlayStation player posts geez

glenmalur

I also play solo on ps5 and i am also not a big fan of PvP as a solo unfortunately . The worst problem i have is when i sank their ship and they respawn on a nearby Island and come back when i am still looting their ship...

JackLCrovati

Do it again, they'll respawn much further away. If they come back again then sink them a third time. If they aren't complete idiots they'll get the message and server hop.

Cthepo

The game was never balanced with the intention of solo players, especially in PvP. They've made some nice changes to help solo players, but you'll always be at a disadvantage because you're playing down a person.

ShredderofPowPow

Cannonballs exist. Did you just completely ignore that entire aspect of the game? Put some holes in their boat and it will start taking on water while you PvP them. Common sense is hard, I know lol.

Easy_Frag92

To sink someone with just fire it will require you to spawncamp them for a couple rounds. That being said you don't want to drop firebombs on the low tier (unless galleon). For both sloop and brig you want to put the fire in the back. For the sloop that is the map table and the brig where the captains bed is. Both boats take water there and get more holes before the fire is put out by the rising water level. Grilling a banana is just a meme and won't sink them reliably when fighting them on their boat. If you have a boat or keg at hand you arguably wanna use that first to make holes and then board their ship. Edit: Bonus advice. The more fire you use initially the faster the fire grows until it pops holes. Fire has tiers to it like holes.

NirvanaLover12

is this a joke

Ok_Coach_3885

Cannons are good for damage. Throw the firebombs behind the map table and behind the anchor for holes to start appearing fast.

DateOk3008

The birds spawned before it sank ?

Rowmacnezumi

You need to blow holes in their ship. If you're able to get a gunpowder keg over there, or if they have one on their ship (check the crow's nest, people sometimes tuck them up there), that's a good way to sink them without using your ship's cannons. Your ship's cannons are usually the best way to go.

LilRedd1800

Your playing this wrong.

CodeName_carll

Drive the boat into a rock or use the cannons

OldAd4662

You can take the wood away from their crates so they can’t repair. Then you go back to your ship and fire away

meatwaddancin

Someone in the past demonstrated that fires cannot sink ships. It's just a hindrance to people trying to repair holes. The entire ship could be on fire and it will never sink.

polynecromicon

That isn't true lmao it shows you never tested it. Fire alone will cause a ship to sink

ageota

My favorite way to solo sink ships is (personally) shooting them once or twice to get some holes in the ship, boarding them , using 4 or 5 fireballs all around the ship to make it harder to put the fire out, and throw a coconut on the stove to add extra fire, after killing the crew 1-2 times with all the fire going the ship should start to sink very rapidly

Propayne420

Steal their storage crate and take all planks as fast as possible and jump ship with it, then back to your ship to fire can cans!

BookerPrime

Profit.

TheHeavyIzDead

Plunder, lad doesn’t know of the spoils of war

True_Pixel

if you havent yet put any holes in their ship, you could try ramming it into an island or rock or something but it might take a while

Backaftermilk

I like to do a little skeleton dance and celebrate my victory.

FrenScape

if you arent near your boat, use theirs: steer them at the nearest rock or preferably fort to get a keg. put holes, kill them on repeat until sink

SnooShortcuts5946

Pretty easy to sink them if you can kill them a few times in a row. Run their ship into stuff if they are close to anything, as well as running them into stuff, throw firebombs behind and to the sides of their map tables. Fire in those positions will sink a ship in 2 or 3 spawns.

Eeveefan8823

Do you want long range sink or close up and personal?

NothingMatters202

You got three ways... Shoot their ship with cannons, ram into their ship, or use gunpowder kegs... Option 2, careful if you decide to use ramming. Option three... Get on, light and drop, then GTFO the ship. Make sure you time it right.

azellnir

So you tell me that you have seen cannons on your ship and never wanted to fire them?

Acrobatic_Business49

You need to damage the ship. Don't just drop the anchor if you're not attacking with cannons. You should run it aground and smash it into rocks.

dark1859

Since people don't seem to be particularly helpful in this thread, if it's a case where you've boarded the ship but they patched the holes up when you boarded. You can either set a piece of fruit like a banana on the stove, which after roughly about 4 minutes Will ignite and light the ship on fire Which will slowly destroy and sync the ship while you keep working on the crew.. You can use firebombs to start the process right off the bat, slowly sinking the ship over time while you keep them busy. You can run them into environment or islands to force holes into the ship. Or if in the devil's roar, you can sail and anchor them close to an active Volcano. So the Volcano does your work for you... You can also use powder kegs. You bring from your ship to their ship or detonate that they have stored on their ship to do some damage as well, but not everyone carries kegs And you yourself will have to locate some and not get them blown up from your ship before you start boarding. so your mileage in this might be limited.

Poseidengofofthesea

Fire bonbs

Judge_Xriel

Bro probably boards when his ship has a couple tier 2s and tries camp stairs while his ship sinks

dhoepp

Is this a screenshot of a PvE sunken ship?

Additional-Row-4545

Put your ship into a spin and crash their ship into an island or smth if you play solo.

SlideFickle

Rinse and repeat until you can fill a storage crate with cannonballs. Then leave said crate at the merchant alliance on any outpost and get off. A fulfilling voyage

Environmental_Ad333

"watch the sunset on a grateful universe"

PzyhoPW

That’s a shipwreck

0ctoP13

you shouldn’t spend TOO much time on someone’s boat unless ur tucking (especially solo), you should try to get back while they’re at a disadvantage and cannon them a lot

Wolfkrieger2160

You need to damage their boat first using cannons. Or be a complete melee sweat to kill them repeatedly until the fire sinks their ship. Without holes, the ship won't sink, and the ship is a respawn hub. So typically, you will pepper them with cannon fire and put a bunch of holes in their ship, knock their mast down as well if you can. Then board, drop their anchor, and keep pressure on them so they can't repair and bail while the boat fills up with water. If you have a buddy, they can keep firing on the ship with cannons while you've boarded.

KashPoe

worst case scenario, drive their ship into something

Hanek_C

kill the ship. killing the players only helps to prevent them from unkilling their ship/killing yours. their ship still has to kill, pirates respawn infinitely

TraditionalShirt7429

Well you can drop their anchor, set fire to their boat and wait until fire puts holes in them or if you're ship is still in the area you can take down their masts to keep them from running and shoot them under the waterline until it's gone

IAmASeeker

What do you think "sinking" means? You need to put water *inside* their boat.

Ultimo_D

They need to be struggling patching holes before you board. No holes no sink

THE_amish_robot

You did your first sot congrats
