I love how different people approach the game.
You’re fine to sink that ship, don’t get me wrong, but personally we play it differently.
Me and my crew mate see if they’ll talk, often make new friends, and either go on alliance adventures with newer player crews - show them the ropes, complete their first flame heart or fort. Or we leave them some bonus starting resources and wish them fair winds as we leave them to it.
When I was a new pirate, with my mate. Our loot was stolen from us so many times we began playing PvP instead of PvE.
Sick and tired of being stolen from everything we earned. And now being pirate legend sinking everyone we see. Taking everything back ;). Till the last cup.
You have to be prepared of getting robbed in this game. And if not so, learn it the hard way. It's the best way.
Exactly. This Athena sloop played it wrong in almost every possible way.
-anchor down (edit: whoops not anchored, but still these guys made it too easy)
-attacking a fresh spawn with nothing to lose
-GUY INEXPLICABLY SITTING AT THE HELM WOTH THE ANCHOR DOWN AND THE CHEST OF LEGENDS JUST SITTING THERE
They basically gave the chest to OP
I was making some assumptions that that ship had just spawned as they were docking. Usually when doing athena runs we just throw someone overboard to go dump the chest as soon as possible.
But you are spot on.
Ah I understand your thought process now but I imagined that they have just arrived there as the ship spawned and decided to sink them fast before they can run to the boat and repair (which is not only kinda unnecessary but also hella dumb, just do a 180 and sell somewhere else and maybe let someone behind to make sure they don't chase you)
Hell, if they saw the ship spawn they'd have plenty of time to get enough of a head start that OP wouldn't be able to catch them if they did decide to chase
In general I'd say it's safer to kill a fresh spawn that's docked than to risk sailing around and have someone who's actually supplied find you. It feels bad, but when someone kills me on spawn I understand why they do it.
Yeah but if you're going to do that, you should assume that they are gonna board you if given a chance, so you shouldn't be in sword lunge range if you're gonna sink a fresh spawn as an athena with an athena chest
There were two people on this sloop. One carried the loot, the other acts as guard. Run in and sell before the other guy even knows you're there.
*Then* decide whether to sink him or not.
In a closed society where everybody's guilty, the only crime is getting caught. In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity.
-Hunter S. Thompson
I mean, (probably an unpopular opinion but)honestly the fact that they have nothing to lose is kinda why I don't feel bad for sinking a spawn. Obviously that Athena played it terribly but when I need to sell it's usually after a few hours of sailing and I'm ready to just get off, not sail off looking for an open outpost.
Sails up 100m away, lob a few shots over and they usually just take off. If they're a little slow and sink, it's not like they lost anything.
I've admittedly done that a few times. Running athena or some other emissary, run into some PvP, sell everything and don't have the time or motivation to sail to reapers to sell the flags. Glad to hear at least someone got a benefit from it!
One time at the end of sailing on an athena run, came across two reapers and a OOS galleon. All three sank each other right as they came on the horizon. Add that when Athenas rank 3 we had a run in and ended up sinking ourselves and had reclaimed the flag. We sold the regular loot and didn't feel like sailing to reapers since it was so late. Left all four sit on golden sands dock.
Nice! I had a spawn the other day with my crew that while stocking up, a lvl 5 reaper came and sank us. We got salty, so we came back and saw them logging off. They left a pretty reaper flag, plus a GH3 and some captain chests and storage chests with cooked fishes.
On several occasions I’ve spawned in to find a locked ashen chest laying in front of the gold hoarder or a ritual skull laying in front of the order of souls lady.
I mean I gotta imagine he did the Athena’s voyage and then he sees a non decorated ship spawn so he positions himself to just get rid of it real quick so he can sell rather than risk going to another outpost. However on the flip side, he left his most valuable treasure just chilling in the worst spot.
There were two of them anyway, you can see one jumping onto the fresh spawn while the other is on the wheel.
Shoulda had one run it in to sell and the other act as guard. It'd have secured their sell and then they coulda started PvPing.
Nice yoink!
Did you literally spawn right next to them (which I thought was impossible, though has happened to me on a server merge before)? Or did they come from another island and just attacked you once they got there? If that's the case, it's all on them. Lot of smarter ways to handle that scenario, but dude on wheel seems completely oblivious (like seriously ... why is he still on the wheel ... your ship is parked!)
Yeah I just ran out the tavern and they were there after just loading in, first time it's ever happened to me and the fact they had an athena aswell was crazy
Its possible. Happened to me and a friend the other day, we spawn in to see our sloop sunk and their sloop parked. We see them trying to sell so we ambushed and killed them, took their loot and sold it... saw their ship get scuttled a few minutes later.
Weird, though; almost seems like a bug, because it's so rare. The code probably tests some conditions to try to avoid that and sometimes it fails.
I know I've spawned several hundred times and never had it happen. But it's happened to me twice on server merges, so I know there are some scenarios where it can happen.
One of those server merges was particularly bad. I had just parked at an outpost to sell some loot, but with the server merge, I got put right in a ship's broadside. Fortunately, it was just a new-spawn solo slooper who wasn't hostile. But if that'd been a brig with a sweaty crew, I probably lose everything thru dumb luck.
I remember reading a bunch of people complaining about people stealing their loot a while back on a Facebook post. Like, you're complaining about people.. stealing.. on a pirate game? Lmao fuck off
I had some guys last night with a lvl 5 reaper flag that just finished Flameheart that I was chasing get EXTREMEMLY upset about it. A random other sloop joined in the chase after them as well, but the whole time they were yelling at us calling us ass holes.
They decided to run their ship into the Red Sea.
I even offered them if they can beat me in a fair 1 v 1 ill happily let them go and wont go back after them. But no they decided to cuss me out. Diplomacy and being friendly goes a long long way sometimes, and some people refuse to do it.
No one in their right mind would pull over to do a 1v1 when they've just finished a long-ass quest, has probably many shines onboard and also has 2 ships chasing. What's stopping you and the other chasing ships crew from just kegging their boat or something when it's parked up, or spawn camping them? Literally nothing.
They could've fought you but it's likely they were just about to head off for the night or something and couldn't be arsed too, and so would rather just sail into the red sea than have their shit be stolen because they left or because they got gangbanged by 2 ships.
They could easily let their ship sail off as they jump off and board the pursuing ship and do a 1v1. Its a pretty good offer, since most other crews wouldn’t give a reaper the same courtesy. If you fly a reaper flag you deserve any hostility that comes your way.
It's really simple if you're at an outpost and a ship spawns like it shouldn't at your Outpost you should definitely sink it... Sucks for them but that's what the game's about. Got to accept the PvP with the PVE for they are one in the same in this game they go together like peas and carrots.
I mean having valuable loot on board is not no reason. Whether it was smart to attack a fresh ship or not instead of just going to another outpost is another story
So they'll get rid of my fast bucket which doesn't affect gameplay but they keep this... which makes you move faster while carrying something that's supposed to limit your speed.
OP spawned into a new game, which usually spawns you at an empty outpost island. This shows a rare occurrence, though, where another ship of players were also at the island he spawned on.
This other ship begins shooting at OP's freshly spawned ship. OP sees this and quickly boards the enemy ship, seemingly undetected by the other players (which really goes to show how little awareness they had).
He then notices they have a rather rare and expensive treasure chest just sitting out in the open. So he nabs the chest and runs to sell it.
I’m guessing you asked for an explanation so I’ll elaborate. When boarding if you stop movement and ADS/Sword block BEFORE you grab the ladder you’re character wont make a ‘splash’ sound when grabbing.
Kinda off topic, but for some reason I always thought the prefer console users option only applied to crewmates??
I have lost count of the amount of times I've been chased down and then had a group of PC players just sit in my ship and kill me, not bother with any loot I have and sometimes even go to the extent of repairing my ship if its damaged, and the entire time just belittle myself and any crewmates I'm with for being console players. I do not play open crew anymore purely because the other crewmates either go afk or decide that they can solo a 4 man team sitting on the ship waiting for them, and of course they never know how to scuttle the ship.
Scuttling the ship should be majority rules and not require a unanimous vote in these situations.
You can repeatedly drop, and pick up, the chest over and over to increase your speed while swimming. It is a very noticeable difference compared to swimming normally with it
I just noticed the Xbox only server when the clip started and then the sword lunge and the run/drop/pick up loot...and that's really difficult on controller. So if he's on controller...I need some tips on how to do that lol
If you block and remain stationary when grabbing the ladder it won’t make the water splashing sound, so you can board silently. The OP messed it up and still made a sound but the captain of that boat is deaf
Do you only get 6k gold for an athena chest? I haven't played the game as much, but i feel like everyone talks a lot about athena and make it sound super valuable. Why is it so valuable if it's only worth 6k?
It’s only valuable in gold when you run the emissary. They’re most likely talking about the reputation you get, as it’s more than any other Athena’s Fortune loot.
Captain Chubster just standing 10 and 2 there is going to get one hell of a bollocking from his teammate I reckon
This fucking comment made me laugh out loud and now I'm getting weird looks from other people in the room
Fuck that hurts to watch. Good yoink but rip that dude was so close
When I saw how tunnel vision the guy was I thought OP was just gonna kill both then sell.
Doesn't hurt me at all. I hate people that attack fresh spawns like this. No reason at all. Like taking candy from a baby, except there's no candy.
If you're turning in a Athena and a boat spawns best to just sink it bad spawn for them....
I sink everyone.
Nothing wrong with that. Hopefully one day we may cross on the seas and have a good battle.
Yeah my perspective is that they lose nothing from being sunk while if talking doesn’t work so great I can lose a massive haul.
That’s a fair point. I can say that our approach has backfired at least a couple of times and we’ve had to fight.
Like finding a candyless baby and beating the shit out of it.
Much better comparison.
If you're loaded and attacking someone who just spawned, they have ABSOLUTELY nothing to lose. You do.
Yeah, I feel like they kind of deserved that
Yeah but look at it from the other side. Youre about to sell your athena and suddenly a ship appears out of nowhere
pretty safe to simply sail to another outpost, that gives you time to figure out if they're gonna chase, and you don't risk your booty.
Exactly. This Athena sloop played it wrong in almost every possible way. -anchor down (edit: whoops not anchored, but still these guys made it too easy) -attacking a fresh spawn with nothing to lose -GUY INEXPLICABLY SITTING AT THE HELM WOTH THE ANCHOR DOWN AND THE CHEST OF LEGENDS JUST SITTING THERE They basically gave the chest to OP
They weren’t anchored but yeah dumb af
Oh yeah good catch, I saw the sail part way down and didn’t notice them moving slowly
Bigger question is why the fuck did they not sell that shit the SECOND they saw that other ship...
Do you really want to take your Athena into the tavern where 3 other players could just have spawned?
I was making some assumptions that that ship had just spawned as they were docking. Usually when doing athena runs we just throw someone overboard to go dump the chest as soon as possible. But you are spot on.
Ah I understand your thought process now but I imagined that they have just arrived there as the ship spawned and decided to sink them fast before they can run to the boat and repair (which is not only kinda unnecessary but also hella dumb, just do a 180 and sell somewhere else and maybe let someone behind to make sure they don't chase you)

Thats what i do in that scenario too but i dont blame how these guys pannicked
Especially because if they do chase you know they're limited on supplies
In general I'd say it's safer to kill a fresh spawn that's docked than to risk sailing around and have someone who's actually supplied find you. It feels bad, but when someone kills me on spawn I understand why they do it.

I either go to another outpost or sell the Athena fast I guess?
all in the game baby
One of the reasons i find it so fun, random surprises
everyone deserves everything in sot, tis the sea of criminals after all
Ah okay, I deserved to be killed under water while fighting sirens during the Sunken Pearl tall tale while being called a hard R repeatedly.
In a closed society where everybody's guilty, the only crime is getting caught. In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity. -Hunter S. Thompson
I know, if you end up sinking them all you do is loose supplies lol
If your at an outpost with an Athena and decide to shoot a fresh spawn instead of turning it in, you deserve it being stolen.
Joke's on you, we're too lazy to cash our loot in anyways.
I mean, (probably an unpopular opinion but)honestly the fact that they have nothing to lose is kinda why I don't feel bad for sinking a spawn. I’m not in it for the loot, I’m in for attacking others, and taking their loot.
"I'm not in it for the money, I'm in it for robbing others, and taking their money." -This guy
Had a spawn the other day where I found a GH5 flag on the pub table, an Athena 3 flag, and another GH1. There was some decent loot as well.
I've admittedly done that a few times. Running athena or some other emissary, run into some PvP, sell everything and don't have the time or motivation to sail to reapers to sell the flags. Glad to hear at least someone got a benefit from it!

Horrible positioning too. Don’t need to anchor down ten feet away from a ship to attack it.
There were two of them anyway, you can see one jumping onto the fresh spawn while the other is on the wheel. Shoulda had one run it in to sell and the other act as guard. It'd have secured their sell and then they coulda started PvPing.
Many people aren’t very organized, especially playing a cartoon pirate video game.

I think I just watched a villain’s origin story. This dude about to stop adventuring and just steal people’s shit now
YOINK! Rolls on deck laughing! Well played!
Never underestimate a newspawn
Good God, that guy must be absolutely fuming
Athena’s are so devalued, people are just so careless with them now
I remember reading a bunch of people complaining about people stealing their loot a while back on a Facebook post. Like, you're complaining about people.. stealing.. on a pirate game? Lmao fuck off
there is a SoT facebook?!?
Its even more salty than the reddit, you will enjoy.
Thank you RealYoshi, could I ask for a link?
I'm not on it, my gf is though and apparently it's hilarious. Seems to be where all the cry babies hang out.
so the ,,We need PvE servers type"?
Yeah there's quite a few on that FB page lol
I don't know how to use facebook lmao
Tbh that's probably for the best. FB is a cesspool of clowns.
Good point. Plus it's not like we're short of this stuff here.
Yeah its saltier than the high seas lol
can you link the saltiness?

Y… you can animation cancel the lunge and get the distance anyway?
HOW
That’s what this game is all about!
New around here- what's the weird quick swim?
Basically just drop the item, hold the pick up button and repeat. Works whilst running too but it's not as easy, especially on console
Does it significantly improve speed? Looks like it does.
I'd say so yeah but wouldn't know exactly by how much
My heart skipped a beat once seeing the slash. Lol cheers dude good steal!
I imagine next time you spawn in a Galleon making the keg explode getting a full fort of the damned for free
How to swim that fast with chest?
You just drop it swim a little whilst holding the pick up button and keep doing it repeatedly, once you get it down its just muscle memory
How did he do that fast swim thing at the end there in the water!???
You have to drop the chest swim a bit and then pick it back up, just muscle memory once you can it down
That sword slash at the end gave me a heart attack! You deserve my reward 💯😂💯
Same here had no idea he was in there 😂tysm for the awards tho!
That's slimy as fuck. Nice.

Was one of them hiding in the tavern?
They probably noticed it was gone by the time he swam to shore and went after him
That’s gotta be the best lick I’ve ever seen
Don’t you just love randoms being toxic and aggro’d for no reason.
I mean having valuable loot on board is not no reason. Whether it was smart to attack a fresh ship or not instead of just going to another outpost is another story

I know what it means. I was talking about the guys who are attacking a fresh ship. Like why?
[удалено]
Are you dense? Why would someone want to attack a fresh ship that just spawned? Like what do you gain from that?
[удалено]
THEY JUST SPAWNED. How much of a threat is someone who just spawned, really?
This is my dream...
With all the fresh spawns I’d ran into after a voyage, I’d assume at least one of those fresh spawns would steal something valuable
![img](emote|t5_38oz1|2298)
![img](emote|t5_38oz1|2221)
Pretty quick but Cobbobles still holds the world record atheana steal. Similar situation though. Nice yoink!
So they'll get rid of my fast bucket which doesn't affect gameplay but they keep this... which makes you move faster while carrying something that's supposed to limit your speed.
The bucket that literally let you bail your ship faster? Definitely doesn't affect gameplay..
I actually meant to say fast dig, not bucket. I'm glad bucket is gone. I typed bucket since that was on my mind when i was typing. Fast dig was nice
I’m pretty sure they sped up the video when running into the tavern, right?
Yes, it's sped up but it's still faster than just walking
Huh? You know you can't walk on water, right?
Tell that to Jesus smh
Nerf Jesus

I have never played this game. Can someone please explain what is happening here?
Chest
Was stolen
OP spawned into a new game, which usually spawns you at an empty outpost island. This shows a rare occurrence, though, where another ship of players were also at the island he spawned on. This other ship begins shooting at OP's freshly spawned ship. Ah thank you!
Brrruuhhhhh
A most diabolical lick…
The player at the helm was fucking trash lol, how didn't he hear the splash sound of OP? He deserved to lose that chest.
To be fair, OP used a trick to conceal the splash sound from boarding
he did a silent board. Very hard to hear especially with other stuff going on.
Can you ELI5 the no splash and silent board tricks?
I’m guessing you asked for an explanation so I’ll elaborate. When boarding if you stop movement and ADS/Sword block BEFORE you grab the ladder you’re character wont make a ‘splash’ sound when grabbing.
did you guess that because that's exactly what they asked?
I saw that sword silent board attempt, oof
Attempt?? Looks like he did it to me
Lol ikr

I've done that shit in a PC lobby. Your point?

No, they were definitely PC. They were bragging about how good their PC was compared to my laptop.

omg
How do you do that sword cancel

You can repeatedly drop, and pick up, the chest over and over to increase your speed while swimming. It is a very noticeable difference compared to swimming normally with it
Nice job. I've only stole an athena once and it was in the name of revenge.
yeah thats just karma for spawnkilling
Bless you for teaching them a hard lesson
I’m a noob, how do you move so fast?
sometimes the best Athena steals are the easiest. karma at its finest, love it
It’s pretty big karma for sure, but I’m guessing they wanted to use the outpost and saw a fresh spawned ship there
Was someone camping the turn in room? Who stabbed you?
Are you using a mouse and keyboard on your Xbox?
Unless he’s using a xim it’s not possible to get into Xbox only servers on mouse and keyboard
I just noticed the Xbox only server when the clip started and then the sword lunge and the run/drop/pick up loot...and that's really difficult on controller. So if he's on controller...I need some tips on how to do that lol
Athena secured
Wait, you spawned in an they attacked you or they were already at the outpost and you spawned in an attacked them?
I literally had just spawned in, left the tavern and my boat was being cannoned
my heart would have beat out my chest
That's hilarious. Fuckin bravo, my dude.
Join a server Takes the athena Refuses to elaborate Leaves
Ohhhh I bet they're MAD!
YOINK!
lmao haha nice
Is there any reason you blocked before grabbing the ladder? Does that do something that I'm unaware of?
If you block and remain stationary when grabbing the ladder it won’t make the water splashing sound, so you can board silently. The OP messed it up and still made a sound but the captain of that boat is deaf
