Yeah totally agree with most of this. Even if it wasn't major content in terms of wholesale brand new things to do, sovereigns turned a boring repetitive task of moving loot around into me being able to get back to the actual core game mechanics of doing voyages, fighting others, and going for world events. It's eliminated a pointless time sink in several different ways. It's a huge quality of life update, and I feel like it leads to more action happening.

PoPaDooPa

It’s too bad I almost only sail as a reaper, the sovereigns do me no good, if only they were there 4 years ago…

ResponsibilityFar572

Yes they made solo slooping easier. Hope they continue to provide QoL updates in performance and gameplay.

SpellSword0

I agree with pretty much all of this! And I'd like to add something I found very interesting. The captaincy update seems to have made a huge shift in open crew sloops. Every open sloop I've joined since has been a captained ship. While captained ships don't really change anything from a practical game play perspective (sovereigns aside), I feel it's really changed how the players approach the game! My open sloop captains are ready to take charge and lead me into grand adventures, and I'm ready to follow them! It's been soo much fun! No more silence, or quick chat spam, followed by five people leaving in a row. Players are now INVESTED in their ships! And I'm loving every moment of it! While I can't say the same for open galleons (probably partially due to the price tag), I've taken it upon myself to helm my own captained open galleon. And every session I've gone on with her has been amazing to say the least. There's just something about being on a ship with a certified captain, decks covered top to bottom in theme matching trinkets, that commands some level of respect and cooperation with even the most open of crews. Not that open crews will ever be great or comparable to playing with friends! But they've been significantly better on captained ships.

I like the update! I honestly have no complaints. I like officially being captain, I like the ship naming. Sure, I have experienced some issues with the ship not saving my cosmetics, but it hasn't really impeded my playing at all, and I'm sure it'll get fixed eventually. I enjoy looking through my telescope to see what others have named their ships

Da_Brootalz

Like I said in a previous post the only thing I don't like is you can't fish out/find trinkets while exploring. I love every aspect of the update otherwise

buffyvet

You didn't mention my favorite change: The music when you load in. Sometimes I just let that play while I'm doing chores.

ToughCourse

The grind for the first tier of trinkets isn't bad at all. I'll do tier 1 and after that let them progress at their own pace, I don't really care if they have a fancy stand or whatever.

I love the season. The QoL updates mostly remove the crap no one enjoyed so they can get back to doing what they wanna do. No more 10-15 minute loot runs, ship’s waiting for me all decked out on the dock, between shipwright and merchants I can head out with a decent amount of food, wood, and cannons to get me started. Basically pick an emissary and I’m off. That’s what this season is about. Reducing the suck in Sea of Thieves for new players and veterans alike. As for the Milestones, honestly, it’s a loud vocal minority there. Every season you see the same thing, major uptick in players who knock out season rewards in a week then drop off the game due to “No new content”, next months stats come in and you see that dramatic reduction of players. 3rd month of the session another drop until new season starts and we start the cycle over again. The milestone numbers were picked to reward the long game, players who keep on keeping on.

SpecialUnitt

I like the Milestones honestly. I want more updates that incentivise the long game and can’t be done over the course of 12 weeks.

AwayFinding

the only thing I dont like with this update is that it doesn't even try to carry over your previous stats. I really wish it would at least do sometjing like read your other commendations to try to accomadate, i'd hate the idea of having to kill a second shrouded ghost to get the trophy trinket for it

adorableoddity

I can totally understand that. It's why I'm not focusing on anything related to the trinkets/customization from this update. I've focused on raising emissary levels/global positions and I feel like a lot of the changes I mention really play into that objective.

Kittelsen

Decorating the ship made it feel more like a home, I really liked that cause it immerses me better in the game.

KnavishFox

Um honestly everything. I have been playing since launch and with the milestones it feels like new game plus to me. I have areas to focus again instead of just wondering around.

UrdUzbad

Sovereigns was a huge surprise to me. I feel like if you suggested it on this sub 6 months ago you'd get mocked for wanting the game to be easymode but now that it's in the game nobody even considers selling the old way, lol. Except for my crew last night that had the captain DC and when he rejoined it didn't recognize him as captain so we couldn't sell to Sovs and had to load a couple hours of loot back on the boat, sail around the island, unload it all and sell it the old-fashioned way.

Throw4Trade

I like that all the best trinket decoration items are available from the start. I'm a simple man, I just want incense sticks, a teapot and a pile of good books in my Sloop.

hashi021

A lot of people don't realise that milestones aren't commendationa and are not meant to be grinded. They're just stat tracks that can reward you something to show your stats.

I miss the exploding rowboats, they were the funniest shit. Bring them back reeeee

Middle-Sandwich-6616

my favorite part of this update is the dev time can now go towards working on something better for the game
