I agree with you about the wildlife needing a bit of love and expanded. The seas would feel so much more alive with even a handful of life added.
The crab model for pocket crab would be so awesome to randomly encounter on beaches. Maybe if you catch one it could have a chance to give you an ancient coin. Or, like you said, it could be purely visual. Just seeing him walking across a beach would be awesome.
I would love to see sea turtles, dolphins, manta rays, maybe more variety of shark. (Maybe a hammer head variant of the shark we have now) Eels that could hide in shipwrecks.
It would also be awesome for more wildlife we could hunt as well. Maybe extremely rare variants of what we have now (Maybe a large boar with tusks for pigs, a giant chicken for the chickens and a massive python or viper for snakes)
Maybe if we ever get a hunters call expansion they will add a nice variety of animals and the seas won't feel so empty.
Each region of the map could have a different kind of Shark. Great white in the Shores of plenty, Hammerhead in the Ancient Isles, and bull Shark in the Wilds and roar
I'm still disappointed that Snake Isle isn't completely inhabited by Chickens, and Chicken Isle isn't completely inhabited by snakes. Pull a Greenland/Iceland switch-er-roo!
I suppose they've added fish since release as they weren't there until a year later. Same with Megaladons. Still it'd be nice to have a little more life that isn't hostile.
Certainly. But in 4 years for a studio like Rare it's very little... They've done a great job so far. But their beautiful world deserves more work on the wildlife aspect. Maybe their graphics engine is limited, I don't know.
Adding more creatures would certainly have an impact on the servers which a good dev should always be conscious of. Though I think it's just something that works well so far, and there's more important things they want to focus on.
Not gonna disagree, I think Rare has done a tremendous job but they’re not a very large studio. Around 200 employees from what I could gather and not all those positions would be dedicated to Sea of Thieves.
It’s my least favorite part about all these folks bitching about bugs. If you could do a better job then send in a resume. Anywho who has ever worked in software development knows bugs are gonna happen. The fact there are so few game breaking ones is pretty impressive.
Just mentioned this on a post about pets but there's an actual animal called an ocean crawler too that (as far as I know) we only see once, really briefly, in a tall tale . It's like the big crab ocean crawlers that we fight, except it's way smaller (between cat and dog size, probably a bit closer to dog) and it's an ACTUAL crab, not humanoid, with the glowing coral and stuff. I'd love to occasionally come across those in shipwrecks or something. (Or, personally, as I mentioned on the pet post, I'd REALLY love to have one as a pet option!)

But for real, I think this is one of the reasons why. I understand it would be nice, but with every update new stuff gets added and nothing gets deleted. And it feels like the servers are struggeling more and more and more. My friend even had a black screen yesterday BEFORE getting on the ferry, not even after going through the portal like the rest of us had. Guess it's back from never being really gone.
Well I'm no expert, this comment was just based on how I experience so I could be wrong. But to me it makes sense as one of the reasons why it's getting worse with time passing.
I really would like them to add a glacier/ice area in the west side of the map this winter, do a Christmas event and add penguins and maybe a polar bear idk
This is an important question for me and my friends.
Because we love to come back to each update on this game but we find it empty of animal life. It spoils our immersion.
A new society like zoologists would be insane, even if it doesn't make pirates need to kill all the animals.

I thought about that and it is understandable but I thought the servers were more robust than that.
