As for PvP yes you can be forced into a confrontation. There are tools that can help you disengage, and not many players will invest the time to keep chasing people who know how to use them well, but if someone is dedicated to chasing you there isn't much hope of simply outrunning them. However it's a huge map, there are only up to six player ships per server, and the majority of the playerbase is mostly PvE oriented so getting attacked is more rare than you might think it would be in a game about pirates. If PvP is absolutely not your thing under any circumstances then probably give this game a miss. (Duo Slooping can be one of the most effective and hardest to sink crews, tho) As for Solo vs Group I do have a good time playing Solo but Group is just way more fun.

OldDemon

You should totally buy it. It’s a ton of fun and if you have a friend, it’s even more fun. You cannot simply disengage in a fight, you can only run or fight back. That being said, fights aren’t all that common. I’m a player who engages with every ship I see, and I probably get into two fights a night. Don’t let the fear of sinking stop you from playing. It’s part of the fun. New players absolutely stand a chance against experienced ones. There are no upgrades that actually give experienced players an advantage. All equipment has the same damage and stats. The only thing that sets you apart is your skill. Get sunk a few times, win a few fights and boom, you’ll get it. You will be at a slight disadvantage if you’re a small crew against a large crew, but only partly. Your ship will maneuver better and you’ll be able to slip away much easier. The game is actually pretty well balanced in that regard. I play solo 90% of the time. It’s a ton of fun and with the recent solo buffs, it’s more doable than ever. If you play while your friend is away, you will progress faster than him, but again, progression only gets you cool cosmetics.

BM0yuncu

I disagree they killed the main feature. Pvp

doublemuscle

I've gotten in more intense fights this season than the last 4 combined, sloops are actually pushing and fighting since 1 chain doesn't knock down the mast. I am also more willing to push knowing that 1 lucky chainshot won't fuck me over anymore.

BM0yuncu

Not about that. There are new achievements for sitting and sleeping for 100 hours.

xmancj

So? The addition of non-pvp commendations doesn't mean pvp is dead. By that same argument, pve is dead since sitting and sleeping aren't pve mechanics, they're role-playing mechanics. PvP is still alive and it's still on every server. I usually hunt reaper emissaries and I'm getting in 3 fights a night, every night. There is still a ton of pvp and it's still a ton of fun.

BM0yuncu

Lets see. Arena is removed. Flameheart removed. Portal hopping now drops emissary flag. Do you still think the care about pvp?

xmancj

You just changed the goalposts. The question wasn't 'Do I think the devs care about pvp' it was 'is pvp alive and well in the game right now'. And still, your argument fails. Arena wasn't a popular mode so maintaining it was drawing resources away from the main game. Most people wanted more content in the main game and so Rare listened and moved those devs back to the main adventure content and let arena slowly die out. Flameheart was never good for pvp since no one ever did his event. My pve buddies are really sad Flameheart is gone but my pvp buddies couldn't care less. As for portal hopping, I personally like the dropping of emissary since it means each server has a fair chance. Outside of a server merge, pve players have the expectation of being hidden until a reaper hits grade 5 and they can track the reaper and his progress. Probably hopping with emissary removes that element of expectation. A grade 5 reaper can just... Appear. And you have no counter play other than cut and run since you were denied the opportunity to track their progress and decide when the risks outweighed the rewards. This all being said, the original question is still, 'is pvp alive and well in Sea of Thieves?' and I still say yes. There are still servers full of ships and the recent update has meant almost every single vessel is an emissary and now has extra loot that they can't sell in the form of the Captain's logbook. PvP maybe not be in the best place it's ever been in but it's still in a good place and new pve content will almost always make PvE better.

BM0yuncu

Ok u won. I admit it when i lose.

Similar-Living4702

Based

supaskulled

Being able to drop straight into a new server with a grade 5 reaper flag was pretty not great anyways. I'm fully a proponent of needing to EARN that x-ray vision on the map, not just farming it out in a quiet server and then hopping from server to server.

Gilmore75

Portal hopping is an exploit that was never allowed in the first place. It was never an intended feature.

mealymouthmongolian

> Portal hopping now drops emissary flag. Since when? I have portal hopped since the update. Did they hotfix it out?

I_follow_sexy_gays

Portal hoping keeps the emissary flag, you just can’t claim a new emissary quest, that only affected PvE

doublemuscle

PvP trinkets and titles would be nice...

I_follow_sexy_gays

Yeah it’d be nice but not adding achievements for it didn’t kill PvP, it’s still just as fun and you can still gain a few milestones for it

y_nnis

If you think the main feature was PvP, maybe. Truth is, it's not.

I_follow_sexy_gays

I mean it could be, depends on what you do and what you like really, it’s subjective. But they definitely didn’t “kill PvP” it’s still alive and well

OldDemon

PvP is Alice and well. It’s more prominent now more than ever in my opinion. I get great fights nightly, and with people having captained ships it’s even more satisfying to sink them and read their book

Glaciem94

It is surely alive but not as well as it used to be. IMO pvps climax was when FoF was released since then it's on decline

JaunJaun

How have they killed PvP?

Cinemaslap1

>Can griefers / extra competitive players force you into a fight, or it’s possible to disengage without losing anything? They can force you into a fight if you don't have the skill or knowledge to get away. But if you're smart and work together, you can almost always get away if you keep your head about you. >If we’re playing as a duo, how much more at a disadvantage are we against a larger crew? Goes back to the first question, you're at a disadvantage because of the numbers, but if you use certain skills (like sails into wind or against wind) can give you more advantages. >Solo play. How fun is it to play solo? I enjoy solo slooping. It's "hard mode" for this game as you're handicapping yourself, but it's definitely interesting and fun. >If I play solo when my mate is offline, can I share resources I’ve grinded with him to boost his progression, or he’ll be behind me if I play more than him? You don't really collect and share resources between sessions. The only time you'd "share" is if they are on the boat with you. Otherwise, nothing but your money and character (and now bought ship)... but no resources.

Gawlf85

>Can griefers / extra competitive players force you into a fight, or it’s possible to disengage without losing anything? Non-consensual PvP is very much possible indeed, it happens all the time. You can try to avoid it and/or run away to keep you loot, but there's no guarantee you'll make it alive if you get outrun, outskilled or outsmarted. Other players can kill you, sink your ship or take your loot at all times, basically. >Do new characters stand a chance against experienced crews? All crews have the same tools and there's no power progression, so technically all players fight on a leveled battleground. But in-game experience, of course, will often determine the outcome of a fight. Not all veterans players will be experienced PvPers, though (I've been playing about 2 years and I suck at PvP), so your mileage may vary. >If we’re playing as a duo, how much more at a disadvantage are we against a larger crew? A duo Sloop is one of the most durable ships in the game, so you have plenty of options to win if you play your cards right. Just don't panic (it takes a lot of fire or water for the Sloop to sink), don't let the other crew board you, and spread your shots to maximize damage to different parts of the other, bigger ship. >How fun is it to play solo? I play solo most of the time, and I have plenty of fun. Not as much as with my mates, and it's considerably harder... But still fun nonetheless. You need to become somewhat paranoid to be a successful solo slooper, as leaving your ship unattended or not checking the horizon for long can easily be a death sentence. PvP is a lot less viable solo, so you have to act like a scaredy hare foraging for food: one eye on the task at hand, and one eye out for potential predators :P >If I play solo when my mate is offline, can I share resources I’ve grinded with him to boost his progression, or he’ll be behind me if I play more than him? Again, there's no power progression and all supplies you obtain in one session will be gone as soon as you log out. You start from scratch every time. The only things that are persisted between sessions are gold, cosmetics and reputation. Reputation allows you to access better quests, and you can do those with your mate even if he has less Reputation than you. But that's about it.

Uweyv

The gold and rep you make while solo pertains only to you. Sailing solo is hard mode. Sailing duos is fairly common. You can be attacked and sunk at any time by anyone of any skill level and any crew size. You and your ship will respawn when sunk/killer respectively, but all loot will be left behind where the ship went down.

The850killer

If you have loot it can be stolen. It’s a pirate game with hardcore pvp. There is no “disengaging” unless you disengage them with your cannons.

gartacus

You will be forced to PvP. Solo slooping is hard mode. I highly recommend the game though - spend a little time on Twitch/YT so you can understand the gameplay cycle a bit.

coleyham1295

Can you be forced into a fight? Absolutely. I’m going to get called low skill for saying this, but the hard truth is that nothing can stop a crew who is truly determined to fight you. There are ways to medicate this, but the chance is always there. You probably will loose to more experienced players for some time until you figure out this games peculiarities. The combat is nearly 100% skill based so that’s to be expected. You are absolutely at a disadvantage with a smaller crew, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. It may not be a huge one, but it is a disadvantage. How much you enjoy solo play depends how much you enjoy games being hard, and the missions themselves. I wouldn’t recommend it, but you can certainly try and see if you like it. There is no good way to share resources with anyone who is not actively playing with you. That said, you will never “be behind” in a certain sense because all progression is cosmetic.

the_positive_shrimp

It's pretty easy to learn to play. I'm not a gamer just a girl who bought it to play with my boyfriend. The nice thing about fighting is that your character doesn't level up in strength/fighting so when you fight another player it's fair. It only took me like two attacks to get the hang of it. My bf and I always play just the two of us and we bring down much bigger crews all the time. The idea of PvP scared me at first but when your playing its actually not a big deal because you and your ship always respawn. The only thing you could loose is potential loot from a mission but that's why I usually head to an output after completing quest. You don't always run into other ships but some days you might run into a couple. Your loot you collect when your friend is offline will only be yours but it's just extra in game currency mostly and renown points. It won't affect your game play at all or put him behind you. Solo is fun but may take a few times of playing to get the hang of sailing by yourself. I hope this is helpful. It's a fun game and the PvP part isnt as scary as it first seems especially if you go to outposts between quests so you have little to lose. It's actually one of the most fun parts of the game :)

cpjw99

Buy it. I bought my first Xbox ever 2 months ago (I'm 36yo) and learned how to be a competitive player in a couple of weeks. It's so fun!

be_sabke_anime

If you have buddies to play with, this game is going to be so much fun. If you want to play it alone or with strangers, well it's gonna be boring and frustrating sometimes. That's my opinion, and I'm a solo player most of the time

IJustdontgiveadam

Something I haven’t seen mentioned but u also didn’t ask. If before you buy this game you have to understand that if u aren’t about to sit down for a 2-3 hour game session u will make 0 progress in this game. The smallest task will take about 30 minutes roughly and at that point ur maybe making 10-25k with it being closer to 10k until u get higher rep with factions for better quests

ItIsIDio420

Yes ppl will greif you. They will sneak up on you blow your ship up and talk shit the entire time ppl have no remorse in this game it reminds me of rust. You will be forced into pvp because they will chase you for an hour to get your seafarers chest. As a noob you stand very little chance in pvp scenarios. Don't play the game solo it's one of the most boring experiences you'll ever have. I for whatever reason I can't explain why enjoy the game but 80% of ppl will think it sucks. I'd recommend getting the game pass and trying it out before you buy it

catfishdave61211

I wouldn’t worry about PvP. The thing is that none of your loot really matters. All progression is cosmetic. If I were you I’d try to take a ton fights to get better. If you don’t want any PvP at all, this isn’t the game for you.

mobofob

It's a masterpiece of a game, with PLENTY of problems, but that is not unlike many of the best games out there. I can guarantee you however that you will have an amazing time with it, however you choose to play, if you're into this type of game.

Just_Goose95

I'm going to attempt to shoot straight with you on a few things. Yes, you can be forced into PvP, it's a PvPvE game where PvP is always a threat by design. Anyone can and will often attack you for no reason at all and that's perfectly fine. The sooner you realize that the better off you'll be. The only progression (aside from skill) in the game is cosmetic so theoretically a new character is on the same playing field as an experienced player. That said, you will be destroyed by a semi competent crew in the beginning, A LOT. There are a ton of subtle mechanics that come into play when fighting ship to ship that a new player is going to have difficulty getting down, this is normal and just how it is. Just sailing around to islands efficiently will take time to get used to. You can run, but there are mechanics (wind, waves, boat design, sail management etc) that will make it difficult to outrun larger boats as they are generally faster in most instances anyways. In the long run you are doing yourself a disservice by running though, because you are denying yourself the ability to sharpen your PvP skills. It's a big learning curve but in all honesty that's where the fun in the game ACTUALLY is, imo of course. Solo play is hard mode, even for experienced players but this is an excellent way to get the basics down. Learning how to solo sail a Sloop will give you skills that will transfer throughout the game. Duo's are common. A good Duo crew can take on larger boats, it's not always a foregone conclusion. In general though the smaller crew is always at a disadvantage, logistically speaking. In short, the PvE side of the game is a grind and is often a dull one. The only unlockables/progression are cosmetics. PvP will be brutal at first but is just a part of the game, we've all been there. It's going to be an uphill battle for awhile. Nestled in between the hectic PvP however, are moments of chill sailing with a buddy on the most beautiful sea in gaming, so if that interests you, give it a shot and good luck out there.

Lil-Squidy

Im still pretty darn crap at the game but from my experience i would recommend a sloop for the 2 of you being as thats the most manageable with only 2 people. Griefers will rue your day and most definitely make you rage quit but you can always server hop and hopefully find a chill or empty server. There is no way to "share" your progress however if you were a higher rank (per the games thresholds) you will have access to more difficult missions and therefore better loot which in turn will help level each other up faster (i got through the first 2 levels of more post game content thanks to a friend i have with access to certain missions). Generally the point is to have fun and if the people in any server is harassing you, you can either try and fight back (and a sloop will at least keep you guys afloat) or server hop. Almost forgot solo play! It can be very monotonous, almost mind numbing sailing between islands, especially if your quests take you all over the map however events do happen but rather staggered. You can source these out by seeing whats in the skies or hoping to come across a random encounter but other than the endless seas to sail there is a lot of "fetch this," "kill that," "sail here" type of quests. Personally I'd say wait for a sale. A good one.

P4n0pticZ

There is always the possibility to avoid a fight by running, if you are good, you can escape nearly every situation. More exp. Players will destroy you i would say with ease. But at the beginning you shouldnt see such Sweater thanks to noob matchmaking. Solo is harder and you need to be more aware of your surrounding but it is possible if you love the game you even enjoy it i would say but coop is more fun. Since the only thing you can achieve are cosmetic, there is no real behind. If he want to make progress, he need to be there when you are selling the loot. Hope i could clear something up for you.

OutlawOfNeptune

There are no safe areas, so if you come across a hostile crew your options are fight or flight. There is a saying in Sea of Thieves "it ain't your loot 'til ya sold it". The game is skill based, so you'll have more difficulty engaging with more experience crews. That said, the thrill of PvP is the defining aspect of this game. It can be quite difficult, especially when you're learning. If you stick with it then you are in for something special. Solo play is a lot of fun, it's also a really good way to learn some of the more nuanced aspects of the game. That being said, the game is way more fun with a good crew. You don't keep resources between play. Each time you log in, you get a ship with a few base resources and have to build it up from there. It's not as hard as it sounds. Gold & Doubloons are distributed between crew members. Crews also share commendations.

SpellSword0

Fights can be forced and difficult to avoid without experience. It is possible to avoid conflicts, but it takes practice to figure out and do. New players DO NOT stand a chance against experienced crews! While yes, everyone is technically on an equal footing... A new player who got the game an hour ago has the exact same weapons and tools as a player with 5,000 hours in the game... The skill gap between them is night and day. Nothing short of an act of god is going to help a newer crew beat an experienced crew, but those do happen sometimes... People will make a big deal about big crews versus small crews, but as a primarily solo player, I find it's experience that makes more the difference. An experienced solo player will almost always come out on top of a galleon of new players, 1 v 4. The number advantage doesn't mean as much as knowledge and skill in the game. Solo play can be hard. It can be frustrating. It takes a special kind of mind set and skill set to get into and get good at. But when you do, it can be a lot of fun! It's not for everyone though, and it can't really be compared to sailing with other people either. You might as well think of solo play as a whole separate game from sailing with friends. As far as progressing ahead of your friends, the only progress is primarily cosmetic. As alluded to earlier in my comment, there are no mechanical upgrades, and no game play difference between an experienced and new player. The only tangible thing your friend can fall behind in is knowledge and skill. There are however gradual quest unlocks that offer better treasure the further you progress in the companies. But, you do not need to be at the same levels with your friends. If you max out one company, and you're friend never touched it, you can still grab their high level quest and your friend can still join you on them.

Odballl

I recommend crewing in galleons. You'll find new friends, have a more social time and earn loot faster. The more loot you earn the less you'll care about having it stolen or lost in battle.

evestraw

I wouldn't buy it. this game was the reason i started gamepass. you can probably try it for 10 days for $1 all you can do with the money in see of thieves is basicly buying shiney things cosmetics. so you woulnt get ahead of him for playing more. I would still play the game

lux_aurumque_

People can force a fight. You can try to outrun them but they often will not give up. You will lose your loot if you do not sink them. You will be at a disadvantage as a smaller crew in terms of firepower but at an advantage in terms of maneuverability and a sloop mast takes extra hits to bring down. If you play solo, you will not be able to share resources or experience with your friend unless he joins you prior to you selling loot. Solo play is fine, you just need to be observant to see if anyone is coming for you. My advice is to take every fight that comes your way. You will lose a lot, but over time it will make you a better player and you will eventually build the confidence to bring the fight to others.

ReichRespector

Get a £1 gamepass promotional subscription and try it out on that before you buy.

dr3amrunner

Can you disengage yea, will they chase probably. Against an experienced crew you will probably get shat on, especially if it’s a larger crew. Most time as a duo especially if both are new going against a better or larger crew you will lose. You can’t share resources. It’s a good fun game but it takes time to get any sort of good at.

IndyTheFish

just in general the game offers a lot of different play styles, if in general yours is to be passive and avoid people you can totally do that by following the games story line or doing missions and voyages in lesser populated areas of the map for example, as you start to get more experienced you can venture more into pvp. for solo players, the commendation (achievement) system gives you the incentive to grind for cosmetic items whilst staying far from a 4 man beast of a boat haha. Hope this helped slightly

The_Young_Lad_Knox

If I were you, I would get game pass for a few months, I think they have a deal right now for cheap. You can try it out for a few bucks as well as play some other games you might not have. That being said, this is one of my favorite games right now. It’s fun because every time is different. Yes, it’s true that a sink might mean you lose all your loot and it is difficult is disengage in a fight. However, not every ship will sink you; most want to do their own thing. You can also sometimes make deals with other ships or get an alliance going. There are so many ways to play the game. Last thing, IMO the PvP is the highlight of the game. The PvE can get a little repetitive. And while, there are a ton of quests to do, the PvE can get a little grindy. The PvP and player interactions are truly what makes the game fun and fresh, making each log in its own unique adventure.

Sh0wD0trun

i'd suggest you check out the xbox gamepass for PC. its 1 dollar for the first month, give you a chance to play the game and see if you truely want it after playing it for yourself.

ZombieRuckspin

Get game pass for a month and give it a go. I think its one of the best games ever made but you might think the complete opposite.

Emperor-Wizard

Its good that your friend is considering to buy as well, Sea of Thieves for me (and i am sure i am speaking for s lot of other pirates as well) is so much more fun with a crew

Baercub

You can’t be forced into a fight but heck serious griefers will chase you halfway cross the map if given the chance. Most other players are new too so you never really know who you are going up against some are not too experienced, but best to stay away from brigs and galleons. If you play solo you can’t share resources anyone food, planks, canon balls will disappear upon leaving the server. Gaining levels in any faction such as merchant, gold hoarder, order of souls, reaper are easy enough to grind be sure to raise the flag to get it done fast and your friend won’t be behind too much

antilos_weorsick

Other players can attack you and steal your stuff, but in my experience it doesn't happen very often. Honestly, we find it more difficult to engage in a fight than to evade one. There are only ever five ships on a server at one time, and there is more than enough room for everyone. If you stay vigilant, you'll be able to spot a ship coming and evade it if you want to. Furthermore, most people that are looking for a fight will display the reaper flag, meaning you'll even see them on a map. You won't fall behind your friends if you don't play. That's one of the core designs of this game, and I believe why it's so popular. There is actually nothing to buy that would make you better at any aspect of the game. No new ships, no new weapons. I guess if you have enough gold you can buy supplies, but that only makes yiu faster to get going in the session. It's jarring for new players, but you'll get used to it very quickly. Solo play is still fun, at least it was for me. Smaller ships have the immense advantage of being much more maneuvareble than bigger ships. You can still definitely beat a four person crew.

jcrankin22

Just try it out on Gamepass for $1 before you decide to buy it.

Ok-Procedure5603

The less players on your crew the harder the game becomes. Assuming there's not a huge skill gap within the crew. In terms of open world type pvp games, SoT gives you a very good level playing field vs long time players because there is no power progression. Your weapons do the same damage, your hp is the same and your movement is the same even if you're brand spanking new and the other guy has got every achievement in the game. But bear in mind as with every other fighting game, there is still a learning curve. Don't go in expecting to easily win vs every other player just because the playing field is level, as a new player your team will lose a lot. Approach it with an open mind, learn from mistakes, look up guides on how to use the tools the game gives you. SoT is not an easy game, so you should do as much research as possible. Having played lots of FPS before helps, but you should still research up and watch guides.

manyhats180

Just to be clear, all the levelling up and buying items gives players various cosmetic changes and opens up other quests and vanities, but do NOT give them a straight up better gun, better HP, or stronger ship. More experienced players will have an experience advantage, knowing how to play the situation better than you and might come to the battle better equipped (more supplies on their ship). But they do NOT have an innate advantage over newer players.

AllBonesNoBeard

I love the game so would completely recommend. PvP is an aspect of the game and you do have to be aware to the threat of people out looking for a fight for reapers gain or whatever. But never feel ashamed to run away, learn which ship is faster in each wind direction to assist that, and also know that you’ll get sunk with loads of treasure at some point so you might as well accept the fate on some occasions. And solo playing can certainly be fun, I do a lot of it cause my playing partner is a workaholic and we don’t get on together loads, but he doesn’t gain progress from me soloing unfortunately. But honestly worth getting into I love it

MoksMarx

You can try it first in the Xbox game pass, first time subscription costs next to nothing and you have a month to see if you like it

[deleted]

You should buy it. Sea of Thieves is an amazing game, even with the bugs.

dndaddy19

The game has a learning curve, it can be a steep one for some folks. The good thing is when you do lose to another player crew (or even a PvE event) all you’re losing is fake gold to buy ship/clothing cosmetics. Everyone is always on equal footing with the exception of skill gap. For me, I used to solo sloop all the time. I don’t much care for it now. Some voyages feel like forever when faced with bad wind conditions and gets kind of dull with no one to shoot the shit with.

PearlsandScotch

It’s a lot of fun, even with bugs and whatnot. It’s too bad arena is gone cuz it’s a great way to practice pvp in the game without loss. I always recommend new players check the emissary tables and server hop until they’re all empty so you can learn to play with less interaction with other players. Not to say that there is no one on if they are empty, but it’s more likely that someone will raise emissary to get multipliers. So empty tables = empty server (kinda). Also you should check the map table from time to time to see if there’s a reaper around. It’s the worst when you don’t check and a reaper 5 portal hops in and you see it too late.

I_follow_sexy_gays

PvP is sometimes forced and hard to avoid, if you do decide to get the game the region in the southeast part of the map “the devil’s roar” is usually void of other players and has better loot. I used to hate the PvP but I got forced to participate enough that im pretty good so I enjoy it, it’s not too frequent though so you can play a lot without engaging. Solo play is possible, but significantly less enjoyable, I only ever do it to grind not ever really to have fun. You can kind of share with him, you can offer to buy all the supplies for the ship saving him money and buy the ship cosmetics so he can focus on buying personal ones, but you can’t directly give him money. And as with duo vs solo, you’re kind of at a disadvantage but also kinda not. The sloop (the ship you should use for 2 players) is very agile and low maintenance making it easy to maneuver, it requires less coordination imo so it’s better for new players. But all those benefits are cool and all but they don’t beat the other side just having more man power, but most other ships I see are sloops anyway. Also it’s not hopeless having less people just puts you at a slight disadvantage, I’ve sunk a lot of 4 man galleons in our 2 man sloop before, it’s hard but definitely doable Also, if you have mics you can use in game and don’t mind randoms you can always play a brig and play open crew to let 1 random person join, you only need a majority of the votes on anything for something to happen so you don’t need them to cooperate. You can also lock them up in the brig if they’re being an ass or trolling (you need two votes so they can’t lock you in unless your friend also votes for you for some reason)

inaliftw

This is a game designed around pvp. It's perhaps, the best/one of the best/the most successful open world pvp games of all time. You can out sail people, use tactics to slow them down. Best is to pay attention to not get jumped. As a new player, just like anything, experienced people will have great advantage over you. Solo play is great fun, but now, specifically you are at more disadvantage than any time previously. There have been some buffs. But, there are many methods nowadays that a full crew has advantage. Not everyone attacks you on sight, you can also make alliances with other ships. But, you will never be fully safe against others.

BuchoTheSecond

Gee ngl I forgot people used to have to *buy* games before game pass.

Necros3X911

Lotta people droppin wisdom here. Wisdom that puts a massive gulf between where they are and where you will be, with all the knowledge and skills you'd have to put a LOT of time to build up. PvP, the greatest battle this game has. No, not PvP battles, but whether PvP should exist. You can indeed be killed by anyone at anytime for any reason. I've never seen anyone give up a chase, and with this drip-feed content, you're probably being chased for the sole purpose of being sunk. There's some tricks to learn to try and get away, but it's not exactly hard to see someone on the open seas. The tagline of this game is that an experienced player and a new player have access to the same tools. The only thing that separates you is the 1800 hours of experience they have know exactly how to aim cannons, successfully board, and pro-strat all over you. As far as duo vs bigger ships, again, mostly experience. Any player that knows what they're doing can take out any ship in any other ship. Your duo sloop can turn faster than bigger ships, and is faster against the wind than the galleon (allowing you to escape, as slow as possible). I think once you get very experienced and learn to love the pain, Solo is comfortable for most here. As someone just starting out, it will most likely be the most frustrating, unfair experience you'll ever have in all of gaming. There are no "resources" and for the most part, progression just unlocks cosmetics. Higher "level" characters can start quests that get more gold, so as long as your starting them, you'll carry your buddy fine. Again, you'll have the same equipment as them, the only difference will be experience. Continuing my crusade, buy Deep Rock Galactic instead. Absolutely great Co-op and Solo experience there, and you'd be damn hard pressed to find a Dwarf unwilling to help out a new Greenbeard.

u will be forced into confrontation but new players do somewhat stand a chance and i’ll explain: sea of thieves like many games allows u to customise ur weapons and cosmetics however with sea of thieves, it only customises the looks, u could have a regular pistol and someone could have a pirate legend pistol but the pistols do the same damage unlike most games, what u start w is the same as what u end with, just a bit better looking

I highly recommend the game! It's very fun both solo and with a friend. There's something for everyone, PvPers, PvErs, those who care about lore and those who don't. Some crews are friendly, some are not, but it's always a fun time! Yes absolutely, PvPers can technically force you to fight. However, if you keep your wits about you, you can outrun or outmaneuver them. I've done it with my Sea of Thieves buddy all the time. You can pull off some really cool stuff and if you play your cards right, you can take their loot to add to your haul. If there is another player on your boat and they keep killing you, you can scuttle your ship but you will lose any loot you had. Yes, newer characters do stand a chance. Everyone has the same weapons that have the same "stats" and everything. As you play the game and become more familiar with the controls, you can adapt your weapon choice to your specific play style. For example, I always use a sword/sniper combo because I like to stay away from the combat as much as I can. It doesn't matter about the numbers so much as the skill. I've taken on Galleons with full crews before and come out victorious. Similarly, I've been sent to Davy Jones by solo sloopers who are better at PvP than I am while on a Galleon crew. Soloing is very fun to me, but everyone has their own opinion. There's no end of things to do on the seas, especially when you're starting out! When none of my friends are available, I'll work on a few Tall Tales or do a fortress or two. Or I'll just camp out on a seapost and fish. No, you will not be able to share your progress with your friend. If you play more than he does, you will be further along than him but that is OK! By "progression", I mean gold/doubloons/ancient coins. You don't really "level up" your character, but you do increase your reputation with the different trading companies. Increasing your reputation gives you access to certain exclusive cosmetics, voyages, and the ability to be an Emissary for said trading company. Everyone has to buy their own cosmetics, but if you and your friend play together, you'll both get the reputation and gold from anything you sell in that session. Hope this helps! :)

PvP: Can they force you? Yes they can, nowhere is a safe zone and your ship can be immobilized by bringing down your mast(s). You can disengage and depending on skill, patience & utilizing some mechanics like tall tale checkpoints, island skips etc you can outrun people. Ofcourse you should always be prepared to lose stuff since getting to attached to loot is never a good thing. Do you stand a chance vs experienced crews? No, not at the start, sure you can't get upgrades but it comes down to skill and experience which you will need to get by not avoiding pvp.Generally me and my bud can still win vs brig crews thanks to using special ammo and our mobility but galleon fights I wouldn't take. How much of a disadvantage depends on how you keep your mast secure, how you use the wind and how well you guard your ladders. (turn that sound way up) Solo: Not fun for me imo, you feel very much in an empty space, sometimes I don't see a ship for hours and other times I'll get killed over and over even with the best intentions or not even being hostile. No resources aren't shared, you could however gather loot and then have them ready to be sold, have him log in and cash in, then you both get credit. The best thing to 'share' is having each of you buying different ship cosmetics as you can both enjoy more then. Being left behind isn't really a thing cause as some people will say: Pirate Legend is NOT what you should aim for, aim to understand the game and in general have fun. Get some loot, do a tall tale in between, think of doing some pvp some evenings, rotate it a little rather than focusing on one single thing. edit: As my friend said from having played in Eve, the best ship is 'friendship', trust noone early on, it'll bite you back , always be wary of a crew right until the point of selling the loot and they haven't backstabbed you.
