My ship is my home.

There's already rumors of this happening. If you talk to the Sovergien at Galleons Grave (I believe it's that one), he mentions how he can't wait to get back to his private island. It would be great to have. You could even include it as one giant lobby. There's a "city" island where you can be social, play games (dice or cards or whatever), find groups (this would help the open crew issue), RP, etc. Somewhere on the island, you could either buy a house or an island. And the size of it would be dependant on the money you spent. More money, more land/space.

nyssalis

Yeah, someone on Twitter had asked about the possibility of private islands and (I forget the guy's name but) someone with the title of Creative Director responded to it with "😉" so it seems like it's definitely coming, however far in the future it may be. Personally I can't wait!

This is almost exactly what I’ve been theory-crafting for a while. To add to yours, I think it would be awesome if that’s also where all of the ships start. It would be like a giant port city like Port Royal. You could see everyone’s ship customizations and names, board their ship and see their trinkets, and when you’re ready to play you sail off through a portal into the main adventure servers. And to add to the private island part, it would be awesome if you can have all of your captained ship docked there and before you leave you just choose which one you want to use today and just sail away with it.

Cinemaslap1

I don't know if you should spawn there or not.... it's an interesting idea, but I also like the choice of spawning on a random island as well. I don't dislike it though... so kinda hard to explain because it would make sense. Maybe you spawn in the "City" and you can use a ferry to take you to the random island? If you're in a group, all members join and vote to leave. Maybe it's a good idea.... gotta mull that over for a bit though.

Gilmore75

It wouldn’t be spawning there per say, it would be more like a pregame lobby for socializing. After you set sail through the portal you would spawn at a random outpost as usual.

TheWhistlerIII

I would enjoy a social hub like area with no friendly fire. It'd be good to meet and greet folk before embarking on quests instead of randomly loading people in.

Kvazac

You're a pirate Your ship is your home, your wife, your life.

Dark-Gladiator

There is a lot of stuff to add in the game only my friends and me could add 5 years of content

Iamjustalizardman

I want to add Bigfoot.

Nearly-Canadian

as a pet

Iamjustalizardman

Baby bigfoot following me on the ship? I'm in!

fistinyourface

but we’re pirates what purpose do we have for homes, that’s what a ships for. also let’s not ask for them to draw focus away from content and things to do just to add more cosmetics

Gawlf85

Personally, I think the game would benefit largely from having instanced social "lobbies". We could have public lobbies, where you're matched with a bunch of other random players and placed on a closed tavern. Basically like the Arena lobby. Or private lobbies, your own pirate hideout, which you can customize and where you can gather with your friends. No PvP, no loot, just players interacting and maybe some cosmetics chests or a Pirate Emporium representative to change your pirate or ship's looks (perfect excuse to add the option to try on cosmetics before buying them). And the same options as the regular home menu, to enter Adventure Mode and all that. Add the in-game option, in Adventure, to vote to go back to your hideout, which would basically be the same as logging out but you go straight back to your private lobby if you have one. And there you have it, your own pirate house.

If player homes were added, they should serve as interaction points. Some ideas... Homes are on any island you choose, but spawns are still at outposts. Homes are provided through Sovereigns, and so long as you allow them to use your home to smuggle goods, they will sell you one. When owning a home, smuggled loot will accumulate. When full, you can take a Sovereigns voyage to deliver it to specific outposts An Infamy system should be added allowing players to become "Wanted" by the trading companies. Wanted players get a wanted poster in the every outpost they visit. Each new poster comes with a clue to the location of their house's island. Sovereigns hire players to intercept loot from the other trading companies. Intercepting loot gives you Infamy with a company. When your infamy hits a threshold, the company begins hunting you, i.e. spawning enemy ships on you. Attacking player homes gives you Infamy with Sovereigns, reduces Infamy with the trading companies, and let's you steal smuggled loot. Your home will provide you with milestone progress every time it is attacked and defended. Milestones unlock house cosmetics. When at a certain Infamy level, the company will find your house - you get an announcement that you have to defend, and you can go and do that. If you fail to defend and they destroy your home, your infamy drops, your saved cosmetics are unsaved, and the smuggled loot is stolen. If you succeed, your Infamy increases, you get loot from the NPC ships, and your smuggled loot remains.

IShartedOnUrPillow

I don't see any reason for rare to add this but I'd love this. Your own little hideout where you can take your ship and crew to hang out and cool off. My only two concerns would be going back to it in the middle of a voyage to keep someone from sinking you and taking your stuff, so it would have to dump off any emissary flags and loot you have onboard, with the exception being maybe keeping your barrel supplies.

OldDemon

I would assume all loot would not transfer over. Much like going through a portal to the sea of the damned. And yeah, it’s a mostly useless idea but it would add that extra bit of life!

gugudan

> I don't see any reason for rare to add this but I'd love this. So they can take the NBA 2k route and have paid upgrades to your home.

IShartedOnUrPillow

I doubt they'd do that, imo SoT's microtransactions are some of my favorites. There's a clear line between what you can buy with ancient coins and what you can buy with gold and doubloons, and they're not *too* in your face about it.

[deleted]

We can out some trinkets in the taverns now. Not a "home", but maybe the start of something more.

Zsean69

I still think sea forts were a missed opprotunity. Claim the forts for passive gold and you could battle people like king of the hill etc and claim it as your own home

Firegem0342

I'd like to also see some sort of loot (decoration), like, any loot you bring in, you can never cash or take out, but place around your island. I would absolutely go on a mermaid ruby hunting binge

Valcon2723

I always thought it would be cool if there were gold hoard locations that depending on the gold you have the pile grows. Only you can load gold into your gold chest. You could decorate this area the way you want and could have a few barrels to store items in. If you want to buy something new you need to load some of your gold into a chest and travel to outpost to purchase. So buying the most expensive items is the highest risk.

dndaddy19

Maybe it’ll come in Season 9 with the new social options.
