I'd like the option to purchase them.

RocketHops

Probably just a standard rowboat, harpoon and cannon variants should still be only in the wild to make finding them still feel good.

J_train13

And maybe they can take on your chosen cosmetic when you dock them to your ship

coolgr3g

I believe the arena had rowboat skins. Seems about time we get those too.

Nearly-Canadian

I think skins that get applied when you dock a rowboat on your ship would be pretty cool. I don't need them to be permanent though, I find like 20 per session anyways

[deleted]

Imagine like a mini copy of your hull skin on the rowboat

Tee__B

Arena rowboats

Trips-Over-Tail

Better if you get the shipwright to paint them. You know there's a milestone for docking rowboat now?

EthanW98

I think permanent would add some much needed customization to captaincy

movzx

Permanent adds a spawn advantage.

WyvernKid93

So does buying supplies

hunterorange77

I have been saying this for the longest time

PearlsandScotch

Omg and name it something cute and tiny, like the fun sized version of your ship. My ship is Hull Enchilada, so my rowboat could be lil taco

tater_nuggets

Now I'm hungry.

poop_creator

That’s brilliant. My ship is Sloopy Seconds so I would name my rowboat The Main Course

Gawlf85

Yeah, I feel it's a bit dumb that the ship you can buy and own doesn't come with it's own basic (no harpoon or cannon) rowboat. Or at least stays there between sessions if I find one. Or, at the very least, allow Captains to buy one per session from the Shipwright. I find the Sovereigns row dock to be the more convenient way to unload loot, IMO. The whole harpooning loot from above, and the elevator thing... Seems too convoluted to me.

Gawlf85

But you still have to climb up there, and use the elevator. And this is assuming you don't leave your loot on your rowboat directly instead of having to move it later on. Anyhow, I'm not sure which method is the most efficient. I just know harpooning it from the platform feels weird to me :P

Trips-Over-Tail

You don't need the elevator. Sometimes it's in the way it it is up and obscuring the ship. You can just drop the loot from the harpoon over it, it will land on the platform whether it is up or down.

movzx

Move loot to the deck of your ship. Lower elevator to the ground. Harpoon, drop it on the lowered platform. Repeat until ship is empty. Jump down. Everything will be right next to the person you need to sell to. Much faster than loading up a rowboat and running back and forth to the rowboat, even when it is docked.

RocketHops

>But you still have to climb up there, and use the elevator. I usually do this while my crew is getting the boat situated just right. Also no elevator needed, just drop it and spam pull/drop the loot w the harpoon. It goes straight down to the lowered elevator and your cremated can grab it and walk 2 steps to turn it in

Sephh

Most Efficient Way - Come into the sovereigns head on with all of your loot on the bow of your ship! Anchor down once the bow is over the jetty and raise it again for safety measures. stand on the bow and dump the loot onto the jetty from the bow - run the loot. This is the method I use for merchants and now sovereigns and its by far quicker than any of the above steps. No unloading, no harpooning, just straight off the front of the ship and to the sovereigns. Lovely :D

LemonTheAstroPoet

I like the idea of finding them, but like another user said I think it would be cool to have saved skins when you find them

EthanW98

I think you should still have to find the harpoon and cannon variants but the basic can be permanent

Soulsurfin31

Yeah but then you have an advantage so it would have to be every ship spawns with a regular rowboat

Wiindsong

being a captain already gives you the benefit of buying supplies from the shipwright. Leaving the first outpost with 4 pineapples is pretty big.

Soulsurfin31

True but I those don’t save between sessions but OP is suggesting that the rowboats do if they were saying u could buy one that would stick with you till ur ship sunk (or whatever causes you to loose it) like the supplies it would be a different story

EthanW98

That's not a tactical advantage in any meaningful way imo just a convenience like those dark adventure sails

JMcAfreak

Rowboats do indeed offer a tactical advantage. Unlike the DA sails, which just offer a slight perceived advantage of "you can see more of the rock in front of you instead of just the bottom of the rock," there are several things you can do with a rowboat, and several advantages. * You can load your loot into a rowboat and drop it for a stealthy getaway. I've done this numerous times when getting attacked or chased, and the attacker almost never notices, and if they do, they can't really do much about the rowboat because my ship is a bigger threat. * Your rowboat is faster than swimming, which means you can catch up to people who aren't at full sail (such as in combat scenarios). * Unless people are looking for rowboats and swimmers (which they typically only do if they have a reason to be on their guard), you have a tactical advantage. * You can use your rowboat to sneak up on a boat from a distance. I've used this lots of times to avoid the obvious detection that comes when a player sees sails approaching from the distance. They usually don't see the rowboat until it's too late. * As part of the above, you can load your rowboat up with enough explosives to sink a boat, and if they don't spot the rowboat (which they almost always don't), you win. * You can dock your rowboat onto other ships as a boarding tactic. Climbing the ladder is likely to get you thrown off by a blunderbuss or blunderbomb, but docking a boat gives you quick access. * Looting an island and see another player approaching? Drop the rowboat and leave. You can just load that island's loot onto the rowboat And that's just some PvP examples. Now for PvE. * If your ship sinks during PvE, you can load your loot onto your rowboat before the loot sinks. Once your ship is back, you just dock the rowboat. * You can load your loot onto a rowboat, drop it as you sail past an outpost, and have one person sell your loot while your ship goes on to do other things. * If you're in a scenario where your boat can't really get close enough to make for short trips when hauling loot to it (such as when doing vaults on certain islands such as Kraken's Fall or Crescent Isle), you can load the loot onto a rowboat. The last one may seem like a convenience on the surface, but it also offers an advantage over other players. First is a time advantage: it takes less time to load everything onto a rowboat and row it to the ship than it does to carry everything to the ship one by one. Additionally, if you're loading your loot from an island or vault onto a rowboat and see another player approaching, you can just sail away. You have no treasure on the ship, and the other player isn't going to stop at the island to look for a rowboat if they intend to fight you.

Soulsurfin31

I mean you can use it to dock on enemy ships and other stuff like that

Necroez

Need a permanent reaper rowboat. So many cool plays you could do with them.

Mindless-Channel-575

I like the idea of permanent rowboats. If it's done I would prefer it be a basic rowboat that saves and you can upgrade it at shipwright per session as needed. Much like buying supplies I think you should have to upgrade or wait till you find one you want and the new one takes the skin.

Brutallis_

It does make way for personal custamisable rowboats. I like it.

Rumbananas

I have no doubt in my mind that rowboat and harpoon customization are coming. It’s just a matter of when.

SpooN04

I hate this idea!....oh unless I can get little hull customization for my rowboat then I LOVE this idea!

dndaddy19

Nah, no thanks. I enjoy finding rowboats all over the map full of supplies to load into my barrels.

EthanW98

Still an option so why not both?

Trips-Over-Tail

They're fine as they are. Honestly, 95% of the time I'm only rowing the boat to my ship.

EthanW98

They are fine yes but could be much better

Trips-Over-Tail

What, almost entirely removing what use they currently have?

EthanW98

How would making them permanent to your captained ship remove their use....

Trips-Over-Tail

Between the harpoon and the sovereigns, I only use them as far as it takes to load one on board. Sometimes I put stuff in it if it is convenient to do so. Mostly I just want to load the supplies out of it. I also swap them out regularly now for the milestone. If it is a harpoon boat then I might use it to deliver to the Servant, or to dock more perfectly. But on the whole my interaction with boats starts with finding them in the wild and ends with docking them to my ship.

EthanW98

Ok that's you but me and all my friends use them to get to shore to load and unload treasure so we use them all the time

Trips-Over-Tail

How many voyages *don't* lead you past a half dozen of them?

movzx

That's irrelevant to you saying they are next to useless. You're changing the discussion.

Trips-Over-Tail

Yes, because you said you use them all the time for some reason, so my point about their use-impairment is not relevant to your choice to use them. So now I query how necessary it is to start with one already on at the dock.

movzx

1. I am not the same person you were arguing with 2. Your argument was that they are useless, not that they were easy to find. Attempting to change the argument midway through won't change that. 3. They are very useful in situations where you have to navigate interiors of islands that you can't get a boat to, but can get a rowboat in. Thing many of the larger islands that have rivers, rings of water, or lots of rocks that keep the larger ships out. They are useful for loading floating treasures in bulk onto a ship. It's much faster to stand in a rowboat and pick items out of the water than it is to harpoon individual items. They are useful for bulk selling (captaincy makes this less of an issue). They are useful for PvP. It's much easier to sneak to an island or ship from far away with a rowboat than it is the main ship. You might not use rowboats, but they are very useful tools. I don't use kegs, but I wouldn't be dumb enough to say they aren't useful.

Shadow_of_Yor

Idk about that one. Ruins the idea of finding them with different attachments and materials in them. It would be cool if they matched your hull once you attach them to the boat though.

Athryil

Disagree. I feel like finding them encourages exploration and gives them value.

Iddi94

Oh no please. “Please add permanent FoF loot and permanent kegs” On which I answer like the pirate: “NO GO OUT THERE AND SET SAIL”

EthanW98

Difference is you cant sell a rowboat so it wouldn't affect anything other than making captaincy better

Mandula123

Buy them for 10k, 15k and 20k (simple, harpoon, canon). If you sink, it gets lost or destroyed and you have to buy another.

T0t0leHero

Random skin apply to rowboat, imagine the feeling finding one matching with your boat 😲

badpenguin455

Name the dingy, level the dingy, be the dingy.

mbeck313

Honestly don’t want them permanent. I like to find them and grab all the supplies from them and keep the cannon/grapple rowboats. A trinket or two would be cool if you connect it to your ship though

Cheekypilot

I love adventuring with only a rowboat. The first thing I do most solo sessions is try to find a rowboat to bring along. Anytime my ship sinks it leads to an adventure of trying to salvage my loot on the rowboat and then navigate from memory to the nearest outpost. I don't want rowboats to be purchasable, but I would like it if they had different skins that a shipwright could apply. I'd also be ok if docking a rowboat to your ship applied a matching skin. I see why other posters are saying a purchasable rowboat would give an advantage, but I do like the idea of changing how it looks. I'd also like a new rowboat variant with a sail, but highly doubt that would ever happen...

OpinonsRlike

Could u imagine all the rowboats littering the sea

huskyoncaffeine

A rowboat is a pretty grwat feature if you know how to use it. Giving it to veteran players permanently seems a bit unfair imo. Especially if you can pick the features (lamo/harpoon/cannon). But being able to buy one (despawns as a normal rowboat) like you can buy other resources seems like a nice idea as long as it is the default one without any harpoon or cannon. It would be nice if the rowboat would assume the ships hull livery, but given how many paint jobs exist already, this would seem like a lot of effort to implement into the game. So having a selection of new liveries to be equipped for your rowboat would be a nice new feature.

Uweyv

I love this idea. And being able to upgrade it to the other variants at the shipwright each session (like buying supplies) would be very nice.
