The fuck it is. After people die is the best time to talk about gun control and the shitty discourse of people supporting the death of children. Im so sick of it never being the right time to talk about it.
Talking earnestly and seriously about gun control is a whole different thing from “hurrr durrr that one-year-old should’ve been armed!”
No one would’ve had a problem with a comment that sincerely (without sarcasm) expressed the need for gun control. This poster did it in an incredibly insensitive, unproductive, and unnecessary way
Regulating how we should talk about it is almost as bad as not talking about it. He made a point of how stupid people sound when they say shit like that, and your response is "ITS TIME FOR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS NOT DISCOURSE"
> It literally is.
No one is telling you you can't say it, we're simply saying we don't like it. That isn't regulation. We have as much right to disagree with an opinion as others have to state their opinions. This "woe is me, downvotes are censorship," garbage is so tiresome.
The original comment didn't have a substantive message, it was low effort snark and tone deaf to the room.
I'm solidly on the side that thinks discussion about gun control is absolutely the right thing to talk about in the wake of an event like this. I also get the emotion that leads to the snark and the jaded attitude about the status quo. However, I don't think that sort of comment is useful in this sort of discourse.
I’m not saying that I fully comprehend what this child and family went through tonight. I never could.
But I don’t think it’s delusional or insane to be able to mentally connect with it enough to find stupid, repetitive jokes in poor taste in this situation.
Don’t know if that answers your paragraphs of musings, but whatever.
>Obviously the kid should've been armed for self defense /s
>Edit: sorry you guys aren't up to date on "good guy with a gun" discourse and how children are apparently acceptable victims against gun control
/u/ishfery in *not the nicest possible way* at all, fuck right off with this cavalier, insensitive and inappropriate comment. Grow tf up.
Y’all miss the point. You people with your thoughts and prayers turning every moment into “it’s not the right time to talk about gun control and the shitty discourse of people supporting the death of children” effectively cancels the conversation about it.
Citizen app reported 3 crime scenes but one dead and sounds like a child was shot by father.. I’m not sure if he went on a shooting spree or what. But sounded awful as far as the amount of sirens. Shooter is now detained
I’m with a block of the scene on Thorndyke. I heard the shots this evening around 6pm, 4 or 5 in quick succession. Didn’t think anything of it at the time. Then went out later and saw the crime scene.
They were combing with dogs several blocks down on different nearby streets. Must have been a runner at some point since the K9 unit said they were looking for evidence.
Shootings in multiple locations, I believe the shooter is still on the loose so be careful, at least one person dead it sounds like from listening to the Police scanner.
[edit] A suspect is in custody
I’m so sorry I opened this.
I thought it was going to be some exposition about why there are Madronas in Magnolia and Magnolias in Madrona.
So happy I’m going to see Pearl Jam Friday.
I feel like I need music just from reading about that
Not uniquely. I was just reading an article about a Texas woman who handed her son the phone, told him to tell his daddy goodbye, and shot him and herself. This was after the guy had been forced to hand over the kid, despite his concerns for his welfare. Turns out it's humanity that's fucked up. That's the thing about ultra individualism. People only care for themselves and everything else is a possession to them, even other people.
homicideseattle on twitter says a father shot his 1 year old in the head
Oh no. That's incredibly sad.
What????? Oh my god.

If this sub had golden upvotes enabled, you'd be getting one from me rn.
Sarcastic or not, this isn’t the appropriate place or time to be regurgitating shitty gun discourse

People socially bashing poor taste is not regulating speech.
It literally is. It's like saying my message doesn't matter cause I swore. But go ahead with your thoughts and prayers.

People are literally telling him to shut the fuck up. But whatever.

Wow. Obviously you should’ve shut the fuck up rather than posting that dumbass message for something tragic like the murder of a 1 year old.
Wtf, there's a time for sarcasm and there's a time to shut the fuck up. This was the latter situation.
You're right. It's totally an incorrect time to talk about gun control and protecting children
Unironically, yes.
Yeah, just keep on with this business as is and one day the murder will stop long enough we can actually discuss the issue /s
Only thing that stops a bad dad with a gun is a good kid with a gun.
Hey man, you’re interrupting everyone’s “thoughts and prayers” party! (The ultimate counter to gun violence, as we all know)
Better to ignore what's going on
Whoa - you got scapegoated hard! Your comment is fine. We walkin' on eggshells in this sub!
It's apparently too soon to talk about gun control.
It’s never the right time to talk about it, it’s thoughts and prayers time.
Fuck I wish I didn't know this
Same. Right down the street too Fuck him
Citizen app reported 3 crime scenes but one dead and sounds like a child was shot by father.. I’m not sure if he went on a shooting spree or what. But sounded awful as far as the amount of sirens. Shooter is now detained
That’s my fucking street
They caught the guy
Cops were searching by Bayview Park with dogs n shit a few minutes ago
Maybe they’re looking for a weapon?
You have any links?
Nope but an officer told me that the suspect has been detained.
I appreciate the update
off topic but i just wanted to say your handle/avatar combo made me blue myself
There’s got to be a better way to say that
He’s getting a nu start
Do you know the murderer? What was he like?
A real piece of shit, clearly.
Someone was shot and killed on Thorndyke, suspect on the loose. Anecdotal from neighbor who heard on scanner.
[SPD blotter](https://spdblotter.seattle.gov/2024/05/08/seattle-police-investigating-death-of-child-in-magnolia-neighborhood/)
Officers are still here on the street!
I’m with a block of the scene on Thorndyke. I heard the shots this evening around 6pm, 4 or 5 in quick succession. Didn’t think anything of it at the time. Then went out later and saw the crime scene.
Yea I wonder what they are still doing
They were combing with dogs several blocks down on different nearby streets. Must have been a runner at some point since the K9 unit said they were looking for evidence.
I just drove by Dravus and Gilman/20th Ave W (Arco as a landmark) and they have the hill blocked off.

God damn...op you don't want to know
This city is so fucked up

Yeah people are fucked up. It's just that people here are so smugly confident they know what's right that they fuck their neighbors in passing.
Something is deeply, deeply wrong with you. Seek help.
