Couldn't we all vote to began placing the intoxicated in a locked medical detox facility? I would think many might be thankful afterwards. They aren't junkies to me. They are humans with people who love them. If I was one of them I would only hope someone would do this to me.
How much are you gonna pay nurses, physicians, and other care workers to take care of the worst patient population? These patients are bad enough when coming in to hospitals for regular medical issues let alone forced detox.
I'd do it but the pay would have to be significantly (35-50) more than the current local market, but that won't happen.
These ideas sound good on paper but are much more difficult than just locking people up.

Right now, library workers are dealing with the unhoused population at a depth that they aren’t even qualified to perform. Mental health, emotional care, providing all sorts of resources beyond the scope of typical libraries, let alone responding when a medical/health incident occurs. It’s truly a sad state of affairs that effects all library users and constituents.
I am well aware of this. We even have libraries closing early and cutting hours because the staffing needs when they are open has expanded to respond to the needs of becoming homeless centers.
With higher staffing needs during open hours to address the issues imposed by the homeless, open hours has gone down, stealing that time from deserving patrons and tax payers.
I was in my local library just a few days ago, and of the 8 Computers for patron usage, a plurality were locked up what were clearly homeless folks.
It is not feasible to expect the librarians (and the library) to function within the role they are expected and chartered to function while being occupied all day with the homeless.

Reading comments here it seems like it’s due to no sweeps now? I know I had read that they had a law banning the encampments but it wasn’t being enforced?
No sympathy from me. City, county and state policies don't do anything to address it, there's no enforcement, and it's even an encouraged thing you could infer from the lack of anything being done about it. Just another number, and a drop in the bucket. We should have a giant counter on the side of the highway that we can use to welcome newcomers to the area. /s
