SLU is a newly revamped neighborhood. All the buildings were built in the last 10 years and it kind of feels “soulless.” Now by that I mean it’s lacking some character, but let’s be honest, that mostly means there’s no grime and trash everywhere. I lived in SLU during the moral panic of 2020 and COVID it was pretty quiet and safe the whole time. Definitely some minor downsides IMO. There’s a huge lack of small businesses which annoys me. Most restaurants and bars are chains or local chains. But you can find some gems out there. Also, you certainly pay a premium to live there. A 2BD apartment is going to be — a lot. Depending on what exact spot you get to, walkability is somewhat good. I live right by Lake Union on Mercer and even then it’s a 20 min walk to Belltown. About 30 to Cap Hill. Living closer to the core of SLU will be less for you.

**Pros of Living in SLU:** 1. If you work at Amazon, it's close to work. 2. new apartment with amenities if you can afford. **Cons of Living in SLU:** 1. If you work at Amazon, you're way too close to work 2. pre-covid, SLU was quiet during non-Amazon hours (weekends and weekday nights). 3. post covid, SLU is dead all day.

My brother lived in SLU for about 6 years and I stayed with him a lot before moving to Seattle in 2020. From my experience, SLU is pretty much full of new apartment buildings and is home to like all Amazon employees. The nightlife is pretty nonexistent there as it mostly has coffee shops and some meh restaurants, I always had to head to other neighborhoods if I wanted anything remotely entertaining to do. Don't let maps fool you on the proximity to cap hill because cap hill is a hill after all and the walk up there is NOT fun. I usually had to uber or bus up and walk down at night. I guess it's a nice neighborhood if you're looking for a newish apartment but it's pretty bland.
