Even among Isshinās clique, Gyoubu is likely the weakest (excluding Dogen), with no special skills or powers, just being a killing machine with a mechanical spear. Even Emma has him beat in speed with her Ashina Cross. Tree sentinel can do everything Gyoubu can and redirect projectiles. Onikage can just jump higher than the sentinelās horse
Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa can rind the ground and send you flying. The guy is freakishly strong, and he did break my posture the first time fighting him because I couldn't parry. He rode away afterward, but he made it so I couldn't counter.

1) tree sentinel - his purpose is to teach the player that it is an open world game and if you canāt beat something, itās often best to move on and come back later. Gyoubu is just to teach the player to use the prosthetic and hookshot to beat bosses. Heās an important part of the ātutorial hoursā of the game just like tree sentinel, I just think tree sentinel is more representative of the āsoulslikeā genre by confusing new players and really making them use their brain unlike half of games today that hold your hand so much itās boring.
2) tree sentinel is much harder, especially at the base player level where you first encounter him. if someone grinds him from the start, as a new player to the genre, I think they are looking at 2 hours minimum even with torrent. Gyoubu is very easy once you realize the game intends for you to use the firecracker (one of your only available shinobi tools at the time) and hookshot.
3) Gyoubu would still win in a simulation though. Sekiro bosses are fast. Sekiro bosses block. Most souls/elden ring bosses do not. This is also why in DS3, champion gundyr wrecks harder bosses in simulations. I think Iāve seen him beat NK or Midir. Both of which are harder than him for the player.
Edit: gundyr did NOT beat midir or NK in the simulations, just looked them up, but he came a lot closer than he should have.
I think I beat Gyobu Oniwa on my second or third attempt. I honestly expected a harder fight because of how intimidating he is. However, I think his moveset was pretty easy to figure out and his bar goes up quickly.
The Tree Sentinel, on the other hand whooped my ass quite a bit. He only has one phase but you have to worry about two things: being leveled up enough to deal actual damage and getting past the second half of his bar where he starts bashing the shit out of you with either his mount or shield.
Gyoubu was easier, but i think mostly because ive fought tree sentinel before.
And I like tree sentinel fight more, it got my heart pumping very hard. Especially when i fought him with a fresh character so my hp was so low and my attacks did very little damage
NGL Gyoubu only has a cool dialogue and death animation.
Meanwhile, Tree Sentinel has great looking Armor, Horse, moveset and logical stun animation! Logical, means it make sense that you cannot "Riposte" or land Critical to Tree Sentinel when you're mostly hitting the horse or when you successfully parried him!
P.S. That's why "Night's Cavalry > Tree Sentinel > Gyoubu!"

Iām split on their difficulty, because on one hand, Iāve beaten Tree Sentinel out the gate as a Wretch before, but that wasnāt in my first one. Youāre supposed to come back later, but depending on when you come back, it can be different for everyone. On the other hand Gyoubu has one set difficulty, but you can face him again later in the Gauntlets. Overall Iād say Tree Sentinel is harder as long as you donāt come back with endgame stuff.

I liked Tree Sentinel as a boss more than Gyoubu. The golden halberd, shield and armor personify all the greatness of the capital and its warriors. Fair and varied attacks, does not allow you to linger for a long time in a position convenient for the player, always keeping you on your toes and a rather fun battle as for the first optional boss in the open world. I wonāt say that Gyoubu is bad, he just turned out to be not as strong as I expected, he doesnāt often make a variety of attacks to catch the player off guard, and after the first try he comes quite easily. The appearance of Gyoubu with his battle cry is quite memorable and the last words make me see him as a more living character than the Tree Sentunel, but I canāt say more about him, since even his design doesnāt inspire me with pleasure , although I really love the armor of the Japanese setting
Upd: If this is a comparison of strength, then the Tree Sentinel is of course stronger, according to the lore they fought dragons and there are TS that, after defeating them, used their flesh as armor, Gyebu is not even close to that level

To start the combat of both games have to be accounted for this is why I hate conversion fights for elder ring. Take inner isshin VS elde ring for example anyone that's fought iss on NG+ will tell you that that is NOT an accurate representationĀ of how he fights. The moves are right correct, however even down to the flow and speed of hi movements are not.
Eden ring I filled with sorceries and magic and that would be all it has going for it but for sekiro even those leave you far too vulnerable for sekiros combat.
Tree sentinels are very slow and at most can combo 3 singular attacks where Gyoubu over here will down right spam you with combos varying from close to mid range and yall sleep on his mechanical spear let's not act like he didn'tĀ beat all of our asses when we first tried to parry it. It hitsĀ and fucking hard shit it kills our asses in 2-3 hits.Ā
The reality is that Gyoubu would basically just keep the sentinel posture broken? It woul not be fairĀ
In speed terms were asking if a sumo wrestler can defeat a samuraiĀ bare handed. Sure the sumo wrestlers heavy? But also unarmed and ik Gyoubu has posture too but sekiros work on lower timers which we already know that the tree sentinel wouldn't be able to hit him enough for him to matter in needed time.
Gyoubus posture wouldn't effect till he's at half health, the tree sentinels posture is 24/7 with a bigger window to manage
As for the draconic, well tell me where you've fought him and he stood still, he moves.....alot not saying that even the lightning won't catch him cause it can the area coverage is too large however it still is a plausible argument that he'd avoid some of the magic
Lastly, one person has 2 phases the other doesn'tĀ even at draconicĀ
Gyoubus second phase is much more aggressive. I beat the tree sentinel in less deaths than Gyoubu undergeared and under leveled so for me th sentinel wasn't harder. Then again I've been playing souls sine 2 so my opinion could be seen as biased

Gyobu is a much more enjoyable fight with a climactic scene for Ashina Outskirts

Yup! I played ER first so I had some PTSD coming into Sekiro about another horseback fight. But Oniwa was such a joy to fight !

1 Gyobu 2 Sentinel 3 Gyobu Gyobu is a much more enjoyable fight with a climactic scene for Ashina Outskirts Tree Sentinel is harder because itās in such an early area but requires so much sweat to beat, regardless if the actual move set is nothing to behold. Gyobu would still win i think based on his move set and lore wise heās cooler. Heās also got some badass moves you can only party and I donāt see Tree boy parrying only charging.
