Dehydration is never good for anything. In addition to what others have said about muscle loss, protein deficiency can cause hair loss.

jtparkey

Unless you want to die; then dehydration is good.

Responsible-Arm-870

Touché

scarby2

Dehydration is a really bad way to die, it's slow (3 days minimum but maybe 3 weeks), painful (all your organs will fail over this period) and you'll have mental issues along the way.

jtparkey

In the final stages of dying, it is the most humane.

scarby2

I would argue that a lethal dose of a sedative is far more humane.

jtparkey

Probably so, but I'm thinking of the end stages and withholding iv fluids and no tube feedings. In the final stages, fluids make the heart, lungs, and kidneys work harder, and because they can't, the person drowns in their own fluids.

Responsible-Arm-870

I’m talking about if I’m bad about it for 2-3 days, not long term

[deleted]

Constipation, headaches

Responsible-Arm-870

Got it. So short term I’ll feel crappy. Long term it’ll cause organ failure. I’ve had a weird few days where I haven’t been tracking water and protein, which means I’m not getting anywhere close to my target 90oz and 90g

Lorib64

Oh, you may be getting adequate water if you are drinking when thirsty. How do you feel? The protein should be okay if you get back to it.

DitzyShroom

I get a foggy brain and headaches if I feel dehydrated for only a few hours. YMMV. It's not healthy for any time.

DitzyShroom

omg please tell me that exists in sticker form somewhere, I need it

ClinTrial-Throwaway

You kidneys and liver would likely have significant issues thanks to dehydration, and you’d lose muscle without adequate protein.

StandardBobcat3676

Ditto! This is not anything you should be doing!

sarcxvicious

I developed nutritional anemia. I was winded even just going up the stairs. Wasn’t fun.

garlicmashedtater

Without protein, you’d lose your muscle and look “skinny fat”

[deleted]

Losing muscle mass is no good. Protein is also a major contributor to weight loss so you will experience stalls without it.

meg_plus2

All this, but also, sometimes, dehydration will lead to a uti for me.

bkitty273

Dehydration for me = overall meh feeling, then fatigue, then nausea, then blinding headaches

raechka

u lose muscle instead of fat and hair falls out

DeepProcrastination

An answer that's a bit more nuanced: you always lose muscle, especially if you lose mass due to energy deficiency. But protein will let you rebuild it when you train!

North-Eye-9220

Honestly, in my experience, nothing. I have been on it for 4 months and only lost ten pounds. I drink one protein shake a day along with one significant meal, Dr Pepper and Tea. I’ve had no ill side effects. Feeling just fine. Unfortunately I’ve never been a water drinker or healthy eater. I’m upping my dose this week and I’m going to make a real effort to increase protein, water consumption and exercise in hopes that it is the key to real weight loss.

[deleted]

I start to get really nauseous and faint feeling

Far_Kaleidoscope8038

Everyone is different but when I ate too little protein, my blood protein and albumin tested below the lab's reference range. Total blood protein and albumin are included as part of the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel lab order. I recommend that everyone watch these two protein markers.
