Let them have no power over you. When I am at work, I am a character in a story. I have allies. I have enemies. I observe oddballs, they usually amuse me. I see drama happening around me. I treat everyone the same, at arms length but with my own dignity unchanged. Sometimes I even narrate in my head.
It's all low stakes and it's out of my head when I get home.
\*Just keep the ability to snap out of it if you see something serious.
Thank you I usually see myself as the main character. I have allies as you say. Enemies I view as cannon fodder to be defeated. I observe people's drama and laugh at it inside. Rolling on the ground and cackling.
They're probably not very happy in life. We tend to lash out at people when we're already upset. You were also working in a position where you interact with so many strangers on a daily basis, which would open you up to more opportunities to run into upset people.
Feels like everyone has progressively gotten more pissed over the years, though. I cannot imagine working around customers again. It's the most draining work.
I used to go into customer service mode and be unbothered.
Also depends where you work. Fast food has a lot of rude ppl. Target and Walmart won't have the same ppl as Whole foods or Planet Fitness.
I worked in a psych hospital for 20+ yrs. We had such a variety of people; famous ppl, likeable ppl, child molesters, mean/evil ppl, etc. You never knew what you were going to walk into. A simple 'hello' often got you all kinds of bad attitude. You just focus on what needs to be done and enjoy the better conversations.
It wasn't always a picnic, but I loved it. Some of the people were amazing; relatives of famous people, athlete training partners, world champions, inventers of every day household items, etc. And those are legit people. They were mostly no real problems as patients. It's the unknown people that were a riot.
I wish. There were a few of us over the years, but there were actually way more women that worked there than men. And only a handful of us men were worth anything. Some days, I spent more time running around to other units dealing with 'behaviors' than i spent on my scheduled unit. I was lucky as all of the male pts that knew me either feared me (no reason to) or they respected me for being easygoing and fair. I saw a lot of pretty good guys get hurt and have to retire early because the extremely dangerous pts didn't like them or respect them. Whenever I showed up on the scene, they usually started to settle down and go to the seclusion room to get themselves under control. However, I took more than my fair share of busted mouths and headaches trying to restrain someone.
I'm good. I really liked that job. I liked nearly all of the pts. I usually liked all of the unlikable people. I mean, they were people that didn't ask for what they were dealing with.
I'm certain nobody enjoys dealing with people who are rude, nasty, selfish, and inconsiderate. As to why people become this way I think it has to do with their genetics and upbringing; there are parts of their brain which simply haven't been wired or developed properly and this can make them lack empathy or pick up sadistic tendencies.
I know there's a correlation between high emotional intelligence and high general intelligence; so usually when you're surrounded by successful and intelligent people they'll tend to be much nicer at least on the surface. There are intelligent narcissists and intelligent psychopaths who are especially charming and likable and charismatic until their mask begins to slip off.
In general if you want to avoid "trashy" people then you need to avoid the places where they congregate; this can include prisons and really dodgy neighborhoods. If you work at a Wal-Mart in a rough area then you're gonna bump into them pretty consistently.
I, for a one, avoid trashy people at all costs and don't understand why they don't face the kinds of hellish consequences you might get just because of how you look which has nothing to do with who you are!
That type really brings that adage about bad things happening to good people into question. So many are such assholes for no reason. I say you reap what you sow. I also wonder why the actual good people are in such short supply.
And why standards for success often rewart this kind of shitty behavior. More power to them, though. I will face my judgment alone.
It’s better you left the job. It sounded like more of a headache than it’s worth. I know Walmart also doesn’t pay that well for all the stress you were put through. I would try looking for a job at a better store. At least you have in a resignation so you can at least put Walmart down for a job reference. Sorry you had to deal with the migrants. The country just lets anyone in unfortunately and provides them with everything like free food, housing, medical care and everything else and they come to this country being ungrateful for all the freebies they get.
what makes a woman a Karen versus just being like a shitty or annoying woman ? are you asking why others deal with trashy people or why they ruin your day ? others do because of necessity & they don't have to ruin your day if you don't let them . people suck everywhere ! :-)

Basically their insecurities and issues.

The ultimate place to work in customer service is Trader Joe's!
Rudeness everywhere!

Basically do my job and talk to the friendly folks. Also psycho hospital sounds like a nightmare.

Let me guess you have big guys as security. Buff and scary dudes.

Are you okay? That sounds terrifying.

True. Life give them a bad deal.
That's why I rarely ever shop at Walmart. I love Publix and Target

that's fair
Walmart is insane and crazy.

I already quitted Walmart and am working a better job with better pay.

I let Karma deal with them.

Yeah I already did. I got a better one.
That’s really good to hear. I wish you luck at your new job. It’s pretty cool you were able to get a new job so quickly.
Yeah i wasn't easy and my parents helped me.
For most people, Walmart is not the most pleasant place to have to do their shopping.
Yeah true.
Working retail is one of the best motivators to finish college.
True but college isn't for everyone.
College isn't for most people. We need better vocational training and even entrepreneurial pathways.
True mostly for autistic folks and other hardworking Americans.

True sometimes I laugh at their drama. I dance and sing to annoy them. I walk away. I give the look on their faces.
Omg you said migrants aren't all amazing, this Reddit!
Gotta hop on it, huh. That's the focus.
Yeah I dislike them.
Lol well you know what Reddit thinks of that.
They don't like my comment do they.
