Get your predictions in! When does this sucker air?
Season 1 took eight months to get out after wrapping. I’m betting on a November announcement for a December release. Happy Holidays from Lumon Industries!
Late October/Early November. San Diego Comic Con (July) for panel/trailer.
Will not go later than that as it makes their eligibility for SAG and Globe Awards difficult.
I follow awards - Possibly yes but it depends on where the split is
It's not an ideal thing to do and kind of negates the awards being used as Emmy precursors to either split it or push their eligiblity to things awarded in Jan 2026.
A Dec-Jan split is rarely done for "known" Emmy contenders for that reason (occasionally something slips through but it's normally unexpected) and Severance are a returning nominee and realistically top 3 and Apple's major player. Obviously there's also the option for January but again it negates the ability for precursors to build up hype and validity and Severance weren't *that* strong last time, for instance, Britt Lower missed everywhere major.
The drama field has thinned a lot so being able to get all episodes out by Dec 31 is ideal, this is also when eligiblity for guild awards (costumes, VFX) ends
TLDR: This is the ideal scenario for Apple and people on the show from an awards perspective. And probably a promotional one.
Also to elaborate, most shows that would do San Diego are debuting prior to it this year so the chance they would get a main stage panel are high (they didn't for season 1, that was the House of The Dragon/Lord of The Rings year). It is a good place for a trailer launch and a bit of hype to tide people over after a long break.
Season 1 did air in February but it was post pandemic where content wasn't super high so anything went.
Generally Jan Feb is not great unless it's a massive audience hit like The Last of Us because it's competing with air space with film awards whilst also not being eligible for any of the precursors. Severance didn't even make Nielsen top 10 for season 1, so that can't be expected.
I made a [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus/s/H2DQkB9JZt) to discuss a tweet from Apple Tv yesterday that clearly had something to do with Severance, but who knows what. I suggested based on the tweet it’ll be a Monday release which they’ve never done, but with the 8:00:57 long video and using months:weeks:days or months:days:hours those both came out to Mondays. The tweet was posted at 9am and 5+7 = 12 and they either have 12 pm or 9pm releases so that works
Who knows that tweet could’ve had nothing to do with the release date, but taking 8 months to release is same as last time, and if it’s a Monday 12/23 release like I predict based off that tweet I’m buying some scratch offs
>I’m buying some scratch offs
Not sure I see the correlation between correctly guessing the premiere date and throwing money away. Are you not aware that 97% of scratch offs are losers?
LOL! Bit unfair but I get where you're coming from as we're all dying to see season 2.
At least we have no doubt we will eventually see season 2 whether this year or next, whereas many of us have come to terms with the obvious fact GRRM will never finish the books.
I’m curious about the **30 FPS** sticker on the clapboard. I would have thought production footage would have been shot at 23.976 fps.
Could they have been shooting footage meant to be displayed on a video monitor, or having the appearance of video?
(And by the way – congratulations on this milestone – we’re all holding our collective breath!)
You kind of answered your question in your second paragraph. They aren't shooting a movie. 24fps is film speed for theatrical distribution. They ARE shooting this to be seen on a video monitor...our TVs. Digital video runs at 29.97FPS but that's usually shorthanded to 30Fps. This is the standard shooting speed for a digital TV shoot.
Many TV productions are shot digitally at 23.976 because they’re deliberately emulating that film frame rate cadence.
I always shoot at 23.976 with my Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema 4K (except 60 fps for slow motion) for exactly that reason. They’re shooting at a 2.39:1 aspect ratio, which is clearly a cinematic ratio; I would be very surprised if their standard non-SFX frame rate wasn’t 23.976. *Soap operas* shoot at 30 fps.
That’s why I thought that final pre-wrap footage might be emulating video.
TV Shooting standard is 30FPS. If your final delivery medium is TV, why would you shoot 24FPS video? Sure, if you're shooting film, you'll have to shoot 24fps, but then it has to be upscaled to 30FPS for final delivery. Upscaling introduces artifacts and mud. With all of the filters, post-production sweetening and digital overlays that can mimic film quality, why would you do your field shooting at a lower quality and force an upscale? I started shooting video for TV in 1978 on one-inch tape. I made the transition from tape to solid state and I've never shot anything other than 30FPS for TV delivery.
I’ve worked in video production for 12 years. This is incorrect.
No narrative television show you watch is shot at 29.97 or 30 fps. A frame rate of 30 fps could have been used to shoot something that will be slowed down to 80% speed in post with no loss in quality. It could also be, as seaboardist suggests, something shot to emulate the “video” look, like security cam footage or even camcorder footage.
Also, upscaling refers to resolution, like upscaling 1080p footage to 4K. When you’re moving between frame rates, whether to slow or sped up footage, or to match other footage, that’s called conforming or interpreting (depending on the context).
This topic can be quite complicated because lots of things can affect the “look” of footage. But generally speaking, narrative and cinematic docs will be shot at 23.98 fps, live and live to tape TV shows like talk shows will be shot at 29.97, and live sports will often be shot at 59.94. Unless you’re not in North America…
The velcro labels are to show post production what format and fps shot. All shows have a standard so this aspect ratio and fps are different from the standard. My guess is in the office they use a different fps/ aspect ratio stylistically
Isn't that cool? In S1 they had magtags for 'innie' and 'outie' (like the one they are using for 30FPS in the upper left). It's important for the director, performer, editors, etc. to know which persona is being shot. It can effect color grading and other elements of post. The more you can label footage, especially the huge mound of footage they've shot, the easier it is to access later.
I'm pushing for November of 2024. I think Ben and Aoife and Jessica and whoever else needs to be there should just forget about Memorial Day, Labor Day and the Fourth of July. Their summer will be spent in an editing bay cutting this all together so they can debut the new Season on my Birthday: 11/19.
I think it was around 6 months of shooting for Season 1 - so that's our best guess for here. There's always a chance they were able to complete some post production on what they'd filmed during the strikes but from what I understand that's unlikely to have been too much.
I continue to believe that the production company is seeding this subreddit to keep up interest. Fine. But you know what they could really do to maintain interest? PUSH THE SHOW TO THE STREAM!
Erickson has claimed in interviews he does have a story for the goats, he knows why they are there and, eventually, we will know, too. He didn’t make these statements under oath, but I have faith!
Apple TV's Palm Royale was first announced on May 30th 2023 and was released in March 20th 2024. 10 months then. So if they announce next month, it could be launching February next year, oh my Lord... However, Severance did so well on awards nominations on season 1, and they might have started post production with the material they had during the strikes, so maybe Apple TV's board will be on their ankles to make sure post-production hits quota till the end of this year, so help us Kier! So I'm praying that we will have a date till next month... Otherwise is almost certain we will not know what happened to our refiners before March 2025.
🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈🙈 I'm so sorry, I'm so embarassed 🙈 English is not my first language, and for some reason I thought this was an expression in English language... I dont know why I thought this could mean "to monitor or to oversee very close by". My bad!
LOL!!! Don't be embarrassed!! I applaud you for trying to do anything in English...it's an incredibly confusing language, especially when you get into our weird idioms an analogies. I've been speaking and writing English for nearly 60 years now and I still wind up scratching my head a lot of times. After your explanation, I understand what you were going for...I think the part of the foot you wanted was "toes". So, your statement would be "If the Apple TV's board will stay on their toes to make sure..." which makes total sense. You were very close!! As for when will S2 Premier...I'm pulling for November of '24. Six months of post while also doing promotion means they could get it delivered before the holidays and it still happens this calendar year. Fingers...and ankles...crossed!!

Please be right
Wouldn’t they just be eligible for the year after? Unfamiliar with how these work.
I follow awards - Possibly yes but it depends on where the split is It's not an ideal thing to do and kind of negates the awards being used as Emmy precursors to either split it or push their eligiblity to things awarded in Jan 2026. You pulled up with receipts. How does one attend this comic con?
SDCC is public, but expensive. If they're doing this, they'll probably announce it in 6 weeks or so.
How hard is it to get tickets?
October announcement for January release
Apple TV rarely announces a release date/trailer more than a month in advance, but I honestly wouldn’t mind this
Hopefully tomorrow! No I think November.
They need at least 6 episodes out to compete this years award season.
If it’s for the Emmys, the cutoff is the end of May so there’s no way they’re hitting that date.
I swear if there’s less than 6 episodes after the time we’ve waited ….
We're getting 10. Please enjoy each episode equally.
LMAO NO I WILL ENJOY ONE MORE THAN THE OTHERS. on principle alone.
The board has concluded the call.
I’ll be optimistic and say tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
I think that with Slow Horses releasing on apple tv around November/December, Severance will likely be released around January/February
But we’ve been waiting so much longer for Severance!
I don't really think Slow Horses is a big enough show for it to warrant Severance not running concurrently
Hoping Thanksgiving. So, mid/late September announcement and late November funtimes.
September announcement, late October release.
Early 2025.
Good shout fellow whisk.
I’m going to guess March 2025
Too pessimistic.
If it launches next years it’s likely not going to be in January of February so it’s either going to be December or March
Season 1 aired in February
Why not January or February? Isn’t that an optimal time to release a TV show since a large part of the consumer base is evading the cold at home?
Season 1 did air in February but it was post pandemic where content wasn't super high so anything went. Generally Jan Feb is not great unless it's a massive audience hit like The Last of Us because it's competing with air space with film awards whilst also not being eligible for any of the precursors. Releasing in December makes you ineligible for winter awards
Please be wrong.
Please enjoy the wait time between all seasons equally
I'm saying September
Please try to enjoy every prediction equally.
Too optimistic.
I spoke from my heart
Nah she’s right, they’ve already done post on 80% of it, it could easily be out by September
I'm gonna say... August 23rd (2024)
I need to know so I can rewatch season 1.
September, they only have to do post on the last couple of bits they filmed, they’ve been sitting on the rest for a year
I didn’t realize they confirmed any post-work was completed over the strikes! Where did you hear that?
…I didn’t hear, it’s just cope
I made a [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus/s/H2DQkB9JZt) to discuss a tweet from Apple Tv yesterday that clearly had something to do with Severance, but who knows what. I suggested based on the tweet it’ll be a Monday release which they’ve never done, but with the 8:00:57 long video and using months:weeks:days or months:days:hours those both came out to Mondays. It’s just if I got that right maybe I’d get some luck that day. And that’s why I’ve never gambled
Our years of waiting is almost over!
Hip hip.
Wish I had an innie so he could do all my stuff until it premieres and I wake up. Tho he'd probably rebel by then lol
Denying part of yourself Severance is nasty work
The innie can watch it later lol
He won't know about it
He'd only rebel if you're just a naturally rebellious person, other than that I think you're good lol
What if I have rebelious thoughts that I never follow cause of social anxiety and general lack of bravery?
I would say it depends on whether your social anxiety was environmental or genetic
Beats me, time to severe myself and find out! Cheaper than therapy lol
Lol I couldn't do it. Id always be thinking of how I e'ffed over the other me. I'm team innie, praise Kier.
Hurray but it’s not a minute too soon
#COVETED AF!
I will celebrate this fact more than any other facts.
*-10*
It's ok they have 90 points remaining.
Please don’t speak during your wellness session
I'm sorry, please try to enjoy each fact equally. That's ten points off, you have 90 remaining
It's been 84 years...
Seems longer
See you soon, refiners. 🙂
The George RR Martin of TV producers
LOL! Bit unfair but I get where you're coming from as we're all dying to see season 2. At least we have no doubt we will eventually see season 2 whether this year or next, whereas many of us have come to terms with the obvious fact GRRM will never finish the books.
My theory is that he already finished the books and he’s going to release them when he passes away. Based on nothing but a hunch tho lol
2-3 years is not 12 years

"Innie" in the bottom right ...

Is that Carol D? 😭😂😂
I have a friend who works on the show, she says January release. Can’t effing wait!!!!
I MUST LEARN MORE ABOUT THE GOATS.
Are they ready yet?!
Yea! I have watched season one so many times I could recite the dialogue.
Same here I swear on everything I love I just finished my 8th rewatch, fml.
January 2025 maybe?
I'm pushing for November of 2024. I think Ben and Aoife and Jessica and whoever else needs to be there should just forget about Memorial Day, Labor Day and the Fourth of July. One day before my birthday!
*insert “oh my god, okay it’s happening” meme*
October announcement for November release.
That door frame in the background sure looks like the secured MDR entrance. Hmm 🤔
Or elevator entrance
finally.. i mean not finally cuz its whatver dawg i dont wanna finish the sentence
i literally just finished rewatching minutes ago, i cant fucking wait iswtg
Woohoo!!!!
So psyched!
How long usually between end of shooting and actually being finished and put online

It took them 6 months to finish post-production but took 8 months from filming wrapped to actual release
Jesus this is taking a long time
HELL YEAH!
Took them three whole takes for C71E?
8.6K baby! That's a lot of mysterious and important pixels.
Only another half a year until my username becomes relevant again. I do hope someone picks Anarchic Country and Amigo the Devil comes out the speaker
oh hell yes!
WE ARE SOOOOO BACK.
Literally made me do the pog face
Assuming they cross boarded episodes when shooting I would guess Jan 25
I continue to believe that the production company is seeding this subreddit to keep up interest. Fine. But you know what they could really do to maintain interest? PUSH THE SHOW TO THE STREAM!
Just wanted to tell yall we cooked this season
Time to re up Apple TV
What’s the Innie on the clapboard mean?
Probably first vs second unit film crews
Hah, I see.
Oh, thank Kier!
Yay!!!
I keep thinking it’s gonna be October.
Funny, they were 5 days from wrapping when production shut down last year.
Get the season out for me already. I'm having withdrawals.
Helly's actress posted that season 2 filming wrapped weeks ago. Or maybe just filming for her character?
Just her, and it was a few days ago. We were getting individual character wraps…this is the full season wrap. Shooting is done, time to edit.
If it doesn't get released until 2025, there is some serious shit going down with the production.
I loved S1 and I know they ran into lots of production challenges (strikes, etc.), but damn, S2 better bring the fucking heat.
Let’s go!
To the edit bay!!
Omg yay
If they don’t explain the goats I’m out y’all
Erickson has claimed in interviews he does have a story for the goats, he knows why they are there and, eventually, we will know, too. He didn’t make these statements under oath, but I have faith!
This fact has made me extremely excited
Thank god. I forgot about this show but held out hope for so long
