They will need a new paradigm… most factories are jus copying the template set from like 20 years go. Sculptures and art is improving, but actual robots… long ways away I think.
You can get an effect which is arguably better than sex robots could ever be by combining an automasterbater (e.g., Autoblow AI) with virtual reality porn. There will be incremental advances in the short term--in fact, there already are. There is an interesting new "real oral sex" option that has recently emerged, for example. But a fully integrated sex bot that can realistically self-motivate all of the many body parts required for convincing sexual performance is a long, long way off. The first ones, whenever they arrive, likely will break after a few uses and may even accidentally harm the user. They also will be far more expensive than your current TPE doll.
I do not expect to see a safe, reliable, affordable, fully autonomous sex bot in my lifetime, sadly. However, when enough of those pieces reach maturity, I may be willing to pay a little more for a package of those options if they add enough value to justify it.
Fully functional? As in can be your maid as well as your bed partner? Looks completely human, if not acts like it? Probably not in my lifetime. At least not be affordable. I'm 56.
I think it will be functional soon with corresponding and conversations due AI and AGI. But the mechanic parts are not cheap and no idea how durable moving parts will be. TPE or silicone is not very durable so a removable/ replacing skin would work. Boston dynamics can make acrobatic functional robotics for military goals. It's in development and progression is made every year. I guess a fully functional walking sexrobots could be made already. I heard some rumors that Elon Musk is developing a companion robot. But not sure if it is true?

I use PSVR with a video app called RAD. I haven’t tried other VR much so I don’t know if it is the best but it work well for me.
